Iris was at her desk in her new office for her new newspaper, the Central City Citizen, very grateful that not only had she mastered control over her new bionic arm, so she didn't accidentally smash her laptop or desk with the superstrength every time she pounded it in frustration and under Red Tornado's tutelage, she'd mastered her new wind powers enough that she no longer caused tornadoes when she got angry. That had been annoying.
But anyways, right now Iris was working on a piece about the missing kids, since while her fiance and his team had yet to figure out what happened to the kids, the least she could do was begin to alert the public to the threat. And even though her newspaper was still new, it still had a relatively large following due to the fact that she was the only media outlet in town that got accurate stories on the Flash and his exploits. One of the perks of being his fiance.
And since the world loved its superheroes, not to mention the fact that she had backing from both Argo and Wayne Enterprises, along with Tannhauser Industries, she was able to find a nice office that was actually next door to the one that had Gabby's office for her PI business. Though lately that friendship had been reduced to phone calls ever since Gabby had left the city on some kind of quest to unlock her amulet's full powers. The only person Iris knew that was more frustrated than her about this was Gabby's girlfriend Caitlin.
The last anyone had heard from Gabby, she was somewhere in Tibet looking for answers, though she never said much about what was going on over there.
But for now, Iris was working hard on her article, since while she needed the public to remain calm, she doubted her dad or fiance, who was both a superhero and a CSI, would appreciate her whipping the city up in a panic.
She was so focused on her work that she didn't hear the door to her office open and her fiance enter.
"Iris." Barry said, causing Iris to jump.
"Barry, I didn't hear you come in." Iris said.
"I figured. You thinking about Gabby again?" Barry asked.
"She's been by my side since basic training. Not having her with me, it's weird. I know she's doing what she needs to do in order to understand the power of her amulet, but still." Iris said.
"I know. But hopefully she'll be home soon." Barry said.
"Yeah, but that's not the only thing on my mind." Iris said as she turned her computer so Barry could see her article.
"What do you think? It's not enough to put people in a panic right?" Iris asked as Barry speed read his way through the article.
"No. I think that this should be good enough to alert the public to the problem without causing a mass panic, since that will only make things worse." Barry said.
"Any word from Young Justice about the disappearances?" Iris asked, since she was aware that Barry had tasked the Justice League's junior division, including her brother Wally, with looking into this crime.
"Not yet and honestly, I'm getting more and more concerned, since I don't think that these were random kidnappings. There has to be some kind of connection. And Batman agrees, and since he's the world's greatest detective, that likely means there's some kind of connection. We just need to find it. But in the meantime, your article will at least tell parents to be alert for it." Barry said.
"Good." Iris said as Barry took a good look at her.
"Are you okay? You look kind of burnt out." Barry said as Iris took a deep breath.
"Because I am. Between work and training and planning our wedding, I'm kind of spent." Iris said.
"Which is why I took a few days off from CCPD and told Caitlin that unless another speedster shows up like the Reverse Flash, she's Central City's designated superhero while I take you on a mini vacation anywhere you want in the world." Barry said.
"Wait really?" Iris asked.
"We've both been going pretty hard lately and we need a break. Besides, what's the point of having super speed if you can't take advantage of it every once and awhile." Barry said.
"I'm thinking we start with Paris." Iris said with a smirk, since this was the first time they'd used Barry's speed for their own personal reasons, though she doubted it would be the last.
"Sounds great. We leave as soon as we've packed and we don't come home until Sunday. I've already set myself as unavailable on the Justice League system, so unless it's the end of the world, they won't call me in." Barry said.
"Then let's get home and start packing. I'm looking forward to five days of just us being together." Iris said, since today was Wednesday.
"Let's go. And leave your work laptop here, no temptations." Barry said.
"Agreed, but take your ring with you just to be safe. You never know when the world might decide to end again." Iris said.
"Fair enough." Barry said, since he was planning on doing that anyways. The only trip he was planning on leaving his suit behind on was his and Iris's honeymoon.
"Good. Now let's go." Iris said as she shut down her computer and Barry wrapped his arm around her waist and sped them both out of there.
