"Okay, this equipment is amazing. It's beyond anything I've ever seen. Even at Argo." Jesse said, since Flash was actually using some kind of medical scanner that was beyond anything she'd ever seen before to run tests on her to determine how she got her powers.
"Let's just say that it's not from around here and that's all I'm going to say for right now. But this technology will help us determine how you got your powers." Flash said, since he was still keeping his identity secret from Jesse for right now.
"Yeah, how did you get your powers?" Jesse asked.
"An explosion caused by getting struck by lightning. You got off easy considering how Kid Flash and I got our powers." Flash said with a chuckle.
"Seriously?" Jesse asked.
"Yeah. Metahumans get their powers in different ways." Flash said.
"I always assumed that Kids Flash was a meta created by the particle accelerator explosion, since you became active before the accelerator blew up." Jesse said.
"True." Flash agreed.
"How about Caitlin, how'd she get her powers?" Jesse asked.
"That's a little more complicated and really a story you should hear directly from her, since it's not exactly a pleasant story." Flash said as the scanner finished running tests.
"Well?" Jesse asked as she moved away from the scanner.
"Okay, everything looks normal, or rather, as normal as they can be for a speedster, though we are going to need to fashion you a diet to account for your heightened metabolism." Flash said, right as the computer beeped.
"What's that?" Jesse asked.
"The machine found something. Wait, it somehow found a match to your specific DNA mutation." Flash said.
"What does that mean?" Jesse asked.
"It's like a genealogy test. And the only explanation for it is that you not only inherited your metahuman gene, but wherever it came from, that person was also a speedster." Flash said, since he was intrigued by this, since as far as he knew, the only other speedster on this earth besides him and Wally was his dad.
"How is that possible?" Jesse asked.
"I don't know. But I think I know where we can get answers." Flash said.
"Where?" Jesse asked.
"The speed force." Flash said.
"The what?" Jesse asked.
"The speed force. It's an extradimensional energy source that gives speedsters their powers, but that's really all I know about it for sure. It's kind of like the Force from Star Wars. Every time you think you understand it, it throws some kind of curveball at you that ends in you realizing you essentially know nothing about it." Flash said.
"Got it. What else do you know about it?" Jesse asked.
"Not much. But I do think that it's our best bet at getting answers about this." Flash said.
"And I'm going with you." Henry said as he entered the med lab.
"What are you doing here?" Flash asked his father.
"Caitlin called me and told me we had a fresh speedster here and thought I could help, since I am the one who taught you everything you know. Barry." Henry said.
"Seriously, I was trying to keep my identity a secret from her for now." Flash complained.
"And your sister vouches for this girl, which means she's trustworthy, so take the damn cowl off." Henry said and Jesse couldn't help but chuckle at watching the Flash getting scolded like a child before removing his cowl.
"Wait, Barry Allen, that's CSI from CCPD?" Jesse asked, recognizing his face.
"And Caitlin's stepbrother after my dad married her mom. Nice to officially meet you Jesse and sorry for the secrecy. I think I just let Batman and Green Arrow get in my head about this stuff." Barry said.
"No problem, I get it. And this must be your dad." Jesse said.
"Henry Allen." Henry said, holding out his hand to Jesse, who shook it.
"Jesse Morgan." Jesse said.
"Nice to meet you." Henry said.
"Likewise. But anyways, what do you mean you're coming with us into the speed force? It sounds like only speedsters can get in." Jesse said.
"Not exactly true. Speedsters can bring other people into the speed force when needed, but that won't be necessary, since I'm also a speedster." Henry said.
"What?" Jesse asked.
"Yeah, there's a lot to fill you in on, but the short version is that my dad's a speedster too and I inherited my metagene from him." Barry said.
"And after getting a closer look at you, I'm starting to think it's the same thing." Henry said.
"What do you mean?" Jesse asked and Barry also looked curious.
"I don't want to say more until I'm sure. The speed force will have answers and I've been putting off a trip into the speed force for a while." Henry said.
"Are you sure you're ready?" Barry asked, knowing why his dad had been putting this off.
"It's time." Henry said and Barry nodded.
"Then let's go. Jesse, since you haven't even started training yet, I'm gonna take you in with me." Barry said.
"Since I have no idea what you're talking about, I agree." Jesse said.
"Then let's go." Barry said as he grabbed Jesse and sped towards the speed lab with his father right behind him.
