"MOOOMMY! DADDYY!"
Lisbon wakes up uneasily because of the tumultuous shrieks and laughter of her children. She lifts her head slightly to examine the alarm clock on the nightstand to the left of the bed.
`Damn, I could have slept another half hour` she thinks to herself and lowers her head back onto her husband's chest.
He still seems to be in a deep sleep, which is extremely surprising considering the screaming. Just as she is about to close her eyes again, the three pests come jumping onto the bed.
"Wake up, wake up, waaaakee uup".
Lisbon sits up and is about to say something to her children when Jane catches the three in his arms with the blanket.
"Good morning, you pain in the neck" Jane replies to his children, laughing.
"And a good morning to you too" he says to his wife and kisses her on the lips, for which he only earns an "Ewwwwwwww" from Tick, Trick and Track (as he jokingly calls their children).
For `Good morning` he gets only a "Mhm" from Lisbon.
"Morning grouch" he whispers to the kids, to which he gets giggles in response.
"What?"
"Oh nothing, nothing" he grins back.
Teresa rolls her eyes and turns to the rascals "Tell daddy what you want for breakfast, then he can prepare breakfast while you change"
"How much time do you guys still need? The eggs are getting cold!" yells Patrick from the kitchen downstairs.
The first to finish and come down the stairs is Ethan.
Ethan is the oldest child of Lisbon and Jane. He is 5 years old and has been in elementary school for 2 months. The curly hair and the blue eyes the boy has from his father, but the hair color is as dark as from his mother. In terms of character, however, he is extremely similar to Lisbon. He is bossy and a pure control freak. Especially towards his two little sisters. He loves to boss them around, but at the same time he would do anything to protect them. He gets the latter from Patrick without question.
"Where are your sisters with Mommy?"
"They have a little hair problem"
"Hair problem?" asks Patrick, confused.
Ethan has already opened his mouth for an answer, but he was interrupted by his mother's angry scream. "EMMA! Get back here right now!"
At the same moment, Emma comes running into the kitchen.
Emma is Elly's twin sister. The two are 1 year and 4 months younger than Ethan, so they are 4 years old and currently still go to kindergarten. In kindergarten they keep especially the teachers quite busy. The girls know that they are cute and it is exactly this characteristic that they use to manipulate their environment. For them, their own fun comes first, so they play tricks on others. But just like Ethan, they have an incredible intelligence, which is a great advantage especially for their games. This is a very big characteristic that the twins share. In the point of appearance they have a few more differences. Both of them have curls, but Emma has blonde hair and Elly has brunette hair. Also, Elly has blue eyes, as well as Jane's and her brother's, and Emma has green, just like Lisbon.
Before Jane has a chance to ask, Ethan already starts explaining.
"Emma put a piece of gum in Elly's hair and now Mommy is all mad because she can't get it out."
At the same time as Ethan finishes explaining, Lisbon comes in to the kitchen with Elly in her arms and she sits her down at the counter next to her siblings where the eggs are already waiting for her.
"You have TV ban Emma for 2 weeks" Lisbon says dryly and goes to the coffee maker to make some coffee.
"But momyyyyy"
"shhh" Lisbon only replies, as at that moment her cell phone rings. "Hey boss"
Emma looks desperately at Jane who just shrugs pitifully and continues sipping his tea.
"Okey, yeah we're on our way" Lisbon ends the phone call.
"New case?" inquires Jane.
"Mmm. Hurry up with the food. We've got to go."
Lisbon and Jane take turns delivering the kids, first Ethan at the elementary school and then Elly and Emma at the nursery.
"You realize we're raising little serial killers there, right?" Jane asks wryly once the couple is alone.
Lisbon just rolls her eyes laughing and starts telling Jane about what Cho told her on the phone.
An elderly librarian was found beaten to death in a college library.
"It looks like she was beaten to death with a book, but they have no idea which of the million books it could be."
"And that's where I come in, huh?" whispers Jane as he leans back in the passenger seat with his eyes closed.
Jane's years of trying to persuade Lisbon to quit the job were futile. She just loves the job way too much. But Jane has to admit that during the months Lisbon was on maternity leave and thus unable to work, he was able to sleep much better and more soundly.
Cho promoted Lisbon a year ago; she now has the position Fisher had before. The team has also expanded. Rigsby and Van Pelt decided to join the FBI 3 years ago after all. Then, of course, there's Wylie and the newcomer Amy Nolan. While Lisbon was on parental leave, there were many different new agents, but all of them transferred out after 9 months at the latest because they just couldn't get along with Jane. Nolan has currently been part of the team for 6 months and it also looks like she will break the record. She has a strong character and that's why the blonde girl doesn't let the consultant bother her much, but the main reason why she wants to stay a part of the team is Wylie. She is incredibly in love with him. Wylie, on the other hand, still hasn't recovered from Vega's death, even though it's been 6 years since it happened. He doesn't even seem to notice the feelings on Nolan's part.
"Rigsby, what do we have?" asks Lisbon after she enters the library with Jane.
"Emily White, 42 years old, single, no children. Blunt force trauma to the back of the head, most likely from a book."
While Rigsby is explaining the situation, Jane, meanwhile, has gone on his own way and is looking for the book.
After 5 minutes, Jane can be heard yelling "Lisbooon."
"Did you find it?" Lisbon asks.
"Do you notice anything wrong with this shelf here?"
"No"
"Oh, come on. It doesn't really get any flashier than this."
"Come on! Tell me!"
"All the readings should be sorted"
"But they are"
"Well, if you look closely, one book is not sorted correctly. The third Harry Potter part is mixed up with the fourth. I guess the killer just randomly picked up a book from the returns cart, put it on the shelf after the murder, but switched places in the process. Hmmm, so the person knew which shelf to put it on, but he didn't know enough to arrange the books in the right order. Interesting isn't it?" he just grins at Lisbon.
Lisbon grins back and then says a little louder "Rigsby can you climb up the stairs and get the book down?"
One of the library security guards is right next to them and says he could do it quickly. He climbs up the ladder to the 8th shelf where the book is and pulls the Harry Potter part off the shelf. "That guy is right! There's some blood on the pages."
But while he was pulling the book out, he pulled another book with it and it falls down right on Lisbon's head. Lisbon falls over and loses consciousness.
