Summary: The mating run was an annual event where unmated omegas ran and alphas gave chase. If they caught the omega, they earned the privilege of courting them. Stiles didn't see much point in participating in his first run, since there were no alphas interested in him. (He is very wrong.)
Run, Little Bun
The Bunny and the Big, Bad Wolves
Stiles was sulking at the Blackwood Pack's house. Lydia had called him pathetic half an hour ago with a pitying glance, but she had also handed him a cupcake so he was fairly sure she had some compassion for him. It was hard to tell sometimes. Erica loved him though, she was snuggling him, which led to him being kind of squished between her and Boyd.
He'd kind of trailed after the Betas after school and they were all now gathered in the living room. Mostly because Stiles really loved that living room. They had a sunken in couch section that was huge and it always made him want to thump his foot because it was so cozy and comfortable, especially with the large ceiling windows that allowed the sun to warm the nest-like space.
Lydia sat with her feet in her mate's lap, Aiden's wrist circling her ankle, half holding and half massaging while he was talking to his brother. Ethan had an arm around his own mate's shoulders, fingers playing with Jackson's hair. Both Lydia and Jackson were on the phone and Stiles instinctively knew they were texting each other. Lydia and Jackson had been the power couple at school, even before the Steiner twins had started courting them respectively. Now they were a chain-reaction of relationships – 'My girlfriend Lydia, her boyfriend Jackson, his boyfriend Ethan who is also my twin-brother' kind of situation. Whatever worked for them, Stiles didn't judge. He just envied. Because Lydia and Jackson got two mates out of the deal.
Isaac was half sprawled out over Boyd, Erica and Stiles, really doubling down on the puppy pile happening here. Stiles loved being squished by werewolves. It was comforting. Main reason why he was here. He needed the comfort right now. His ear twitched in annoyance.
"Why do we have an unhappy bunny in our living room?"
Stiles' nose twitched and he turned to glare at Peter. The wolf sauntered into the living room with a teasing smile and his mate on his arm. Peter and Deucalion were too handsome to be real, it was just unfair. Stiles could stare at them for hours. He turned to bury his nose in Erica's curls.
"Why do you smell so unhappy, sweet boy?" Deucalion asked, more concern than teasing.
"Stiles has decided to not participate in the mating run," Lydia declared with an exasperated sigh.
The Alpha Pair paused, both staring at Stiles in surprise. There was muttering and noises from the kitchen and the last four members of the Blackwood Pack also joined them in the living room, Ennis still wearing his apron from where he had been making lunch, Kali and Braeden looking at Stiles curiously and Marin looking concerned. Stiles tried to hide in Erica's curls.
"The mating run has long tradition for omegas," Marin pointed out gently.
Sure it did. Stiles was well aware of that. It used to be something different, a long time ago. Barbaric, really. Where omegas ran and alphas chased – and alphas got to keep whoever they caught. Times were different now, shifters were more civilized and omegas had more rights. But much like the act of handing the bride over at a wedding, the tradition remained. Nowadays, alphas earned the right to court the omega they caught, which still left the omega to decline courting. It was seen as a step toward a matebond, where alphas proved their worth to omegas.
"Yeah, and I'm sure Erica and the other omegas are gonna have a blast being chased by all the alphas who like them," Stiles sneered a little as he sat up. "There are no alphas who like me, so what's the point? I'm just gonna embarrass myself showing up there."
He pulled his legs up against his chest and wrapped his arms around them, glowering. The mating run had long tradition. At eighteen, omegas were allowed to participate. Every omega in their class was so looking forward to it. Either because they already were dating an alpha and wanting to solidify their relationship, or because they wanted to see what their 'options' were.
Supernatural creatures presented as either alpha or omega. Humans, without magic and presentation, were referred to as betas. The run was for alphas and omegas.
Lydia, Erica and Isaac were the only omega friends Stiles had. Erica and Boyd were a done deal, the two were so ridiculously in love, he was going to chase and catch her. Lydia had both Aiden and Jackson to chase her and Ethan may even help by deterring anyone crazy enough to try their luck and intervene (she was the most sought-out omega at school, after all. Most popular girl at school even before her banshee genes had manifested during their sophomore year). Isaac, on the other hand, had absolutely no interest in the run, on account of being very aroace and very much not interested in any kind of romantic or sexual relationship ('also running sucks').
He wasn't like them. He wanted to be chased, he wanted to be wanted, but there was nobody wanting him. He'd been chronically single all of high school. He'd once made out with an alpha girl at a black light party that the twins had organized, but she had kind of… never reached out again and seemed to be avoiding him until he took the hint. There were no alphas interested in even just dating him, so why would any want to chase him? He really was going to embarrass himself, showing up at the mating run with nobody there to chase him and he could do without the humiliation of it all. He would much rather hide out in his bedroom and maybe play Call of Duty with Scott and Allison. They may also be disgustingly in love with each other, but they were both human, so it was different and they wouldn't try to make him attend the run.
He had considered asking one of his alpha friends to chase him platonically. Just so he wouldn't feel like a loser and could still participate. He had a distinct lack of single alpha friends. Everyone in the Blackwood Pack was taken and thanks to recent developments, so was everyone in the Hale Pack.
Beacon Hills was a split territory between two packs. The Hale Pack, a familial pack that had been guarding the territory since before there was a town on it, and the Blackwood Pack. Deucalion had moved his pack here ten years ago, when during a summit of Alphas, he had fallen irrevocably in love with Alpha Hale's younger brother, Peter. But Peter's siblings and niblings meant too much to Peter for him to leave and since Beacon Hills had grown in size over the centuries, Talia Hale had invited Deucalion to move onto the territory, to guard it together.
The Hale Pack consisted of the Hale family, born and married into. It was about the same size as the Blackwood Pack and Stiles was pretty close to the younger pack members too. He'd helped Sloan Hale run for student body president. She was an omega herself. He had taught Sloan's little brother Jason how to pick locks and hotwire a car (...Alpha Hale had not been impressed with him for that). Though an alpha, Jason was a little too young for Stiles and also too young to participate in the run, even though the kid adored Stiles so damn much, he'd probably do it if asked.
And then there were Sloan and Jason's cousins, the kids of the Hale Alpha. Laura, alpha and the oldest, would give him a pitying look and pat his head like he was a little kid. She was ten years his senior but could be a real ass about it. Derek, alpha and middle child and five years older than Stiles, totally would have run for him… if he hadn't just started courting fellow alpha Deputy Jordan Parrish. Seeing Derek flustered was totally adorable, actually, but it still sucked because Derek was one of his best friends, beside Scott and Erica, and he totally would have. Cora was in Stiles' grade and she was an alpha and she wouldn't participate in the run, in general, not even for money, not even for a friend, not even when Stiles whined loudly about it.
"The first mating run is a rite of passage for a young omega, you shouldn't miss out on it, dear."
Stiles tilted his head to look up at Deuc, who was suddenly kneeling next to the couch, resting a hand in Stiles' neck to gain the distracted omega's attention. Deuc looked really, really good from this angle. It made Stiles think about sitting at the alpha's feet, kneeling before him. His ear twitched. The next moment, it was caught by deft fingers and Stiles jerked to glare at Peter.
"I apologize darling," Peter smiled, entirely unapologetic. "You know I just can't resist them."
Werewolves had either their full shift or their Beta-shift, with the glowing eyes, fangs, claws and weird eyebrow-situation. All the threatening elements, what with them being natural predators. Other shifters were different. Stiles? Stiles was a bunny-shifter, taking after his mom. His half-shift included long, velvety bunny ears in a matching dark-brown as his hair and a cotton-tail twitching at his tail-bone. Most of his predator friends were well-behaved about his prey-nature.
Only Peter always had to be a dick about it, teasing him. Sometimes, Peter forgot that bunnies had viciously sharp teeth. One time, when Peter had tugged on Stiles' tail, Stiles had bitten Peter's finger clean off. It was fine! Peter was a werewolf, they put the finger back on and it healed perfectly fine. But he learned his lesson and never tugged on Stiles' tail again after that. Admittedly, Stiles hadn't meant to bite through the bone, he had just meant to teach Peter a lesson. The truly infuriating part was where Peter seemed delighted by this, instead of mad.
"You are lucky I like you, Peter, otherwise I'd take another finger," Stiles bared his teeth.
"Yes, dear," Peter smiled, voice far too sincere to be teasing. "I'm very lucky indeed."
"Now, to get back to what we were talking about," Deucalion cleared his throat. "The run."
Stiles tilted his head to look at Deucalion again. Yes, the Alpha looked very good from this angle. Stiles' inner omega purred at the thought of being at his alpha's feet. He bit his lips, knowing he shouldn't think that way about Deuc. Not only was the alpha an Alpha, highly respected and a leader, he was also happily mated obviously, and just so much older than Stiles. Even if Deuc wasn't happy with Peter and wasn't a respected pack leader in town, Stiles still wouldn't stand a chance with the sophisticated older man. Besides, if Deuc wanted an omega, he would have an omega. Instead, he had chosen an alpha as his mate.
Peter was so gorgeous and snarky and Stiles might be as gone on him as he was on Deuc. Which only made all of this worse. It was already worse enough to be in love with the Alpha, how sad was it that he had also managed to fall for the Alpha's mate? They were mated. They were both alphas and older than him and clearly had no need for an omega, much less one so young and inexperienced. He'd barely made out with an alpha before, they would probably be annoyed by the fumbling mess he was. Turning away from them, Stiles slowly got up.
"What's the point," Stiles muttered sullenly. "There's… Look, the past three years of high school were honestly good. I'd like to end it on a high note, not by being made painfully aware of the fact that nobody wants the twitchy bunny when there's hot wolves available."
He offered a wry smile and motioned at all the teen wolves present. Deucalion gave a dark, low growl as he captured Stiles' chin to tilt his face up. The alpha looked stern and it made Stiles' breath hitch and his ears stand up at attention. He could feel his tail twitch.
"What," Deucalion's voice was perfectly contained disapproval, fingers still on Stiles' chin to make him look at the alpha. "Have we said about talking that way, Mieczysław?"
"Uhm…" Stiles blinked doe-eyed at the alpha, brain short-circuited at the tone of voice and the hold Deuc had on him. "I… Uh… Not… to?"
He wanted to bare his throat to the alpha to appease him. He also wanted to drop onto his knees to appease the alpha. The hand on his chin slowly slipped down gracing Stiles' neck and making him bare it subconsciously after all. The hand wandered up the back of Stiles' neck, fingers running through Stiles' hair and then gently tracing Stiles' still erect ears.
"Peter's right," Deucalion hummed softly. "They are hard to resist."
The ear Deucalion was touching twitched at that and Stiles glared a little. "Yeah, yeah, we're all having a lot of fun at the bunny's expense, aren't we."
"Nobody is making fun of you, dearest," Deucalion rubbed Stiles' ear between his fingers, just the way that made Stiles thump his leg. "Your features are charming, not something to be made fun of."
"Yeah, right," Stiles huffed, wiggling his nose.
The disapproval was back on Deucalion's face and half the time, Stiles felt like the alpha wanted to put him over his lap and spank him. Which Stiles was very much aware was him projecting his own desires, but damn did he want to be bent over Deuc's lap and spanked by the alpha.
Before Deuc could voice his disapproval did Erica wrap her arms around Stiles' neck from behind, pulling him close and making him relax back against his friend. She grinned broadly at him.
"You're gonna attend the mating run," Erica declared. "So we can run together as pack, okay?"
"I'm not pack, Catwoman," Stiles huffed amused. "Not a werewolf, remember?"
Some of the wolves around him made varying noises that he couldn't dissect but that he took as agreement and as them warning Erica for being silly. She was a turned wolf, so these things were different to her than to born shifters. Erica huffed and tightened her arm around him.
"Lydia's not a werewolf either and she's pack," Erica argued.
Stiles rolled his eyes fondly. "Lydia's mated to two wolves in the pack. I'm not. I'm just the bunny who likes your company and tags along for it."
Which was the truth. Shifters usually stuck to their own kin when in groups, the bird shifters lived in flocks, the wolves in their packs. Bunnies were more family oriented and since his mother's death, Stiles was the only bunny in town, so he was compensating for it by tagging along with the wolves. Both, the Blackwood Pack and the Hale Pack. That didn't make him part of either pack. For that, he'd have to be mated to someone in the pack. And he wasn't.
"Fine, then as friends," Erica grumbled annoyed and nipped his ear.
"No biting the bunny," Stiles hissed and bared his teeth at her. "But fine, you win! I'll go on the stupid run. But when nobody shows up to chase me, I demand that your alphas save me from the humiliation of running alone by chasing me. There."
"You know, I have considered hunting you for sport since middle school," Jackson drawled.
"Fuck you, Jacks," Stiles called back and flipped the wolf off. "You fucking adore me."

"You should have told him beforehand," Marin's voice was filled with disapproval.
Deucalion heaved a sigh and turned away from his Emissary. Marin's voice next to her cackled at him. Braeden always found joy in Deucalion being reprimanded like a pup and Marin was the only one allowed to do so. Shooting her wife a look, Marin gently ran her hand over Braeden's arm, signaling her to please not antagonize Deucalion. All Braeden did was kiss her cheek in return.
"Okay, fine, I'll leave you to chiding our Alpha," Braeden chuckled.
She headed into the kitchen, leaving Deucalion alone with a disapproving Marin. Her arms were crossed over her chest. Heaving a sigh, Deucalion turned away from her. Peter was avoiding both their gaze, like he could get out of the chiding if he didn't look at Marin.
"Stiles deserves to know your intentions," Lydia pointed out as she stepped up to Marin. "You heard him. We all did. He thinks that there are no alphas interested in him, when in reality, you two have been actively chasing every alpha interested in him away."
The combination of Marin and Lydia glaring at Deucalion truly made him feel like a pup. Usually, he would not let a Beta talk to him like that. However, Deucalion knew that she was speaking up for Stiles, because she cared for him. And Deucalion wanted his Betas to care about Stiles and to speak up on his behalf even in front of their Alphas.
"A month," Deucalion pointed out gently. "There was only a month between his eighteenth birthday and the mating run. If there had been more time between, I would agree. Me and Peter would have made our intentions clear. But after how long we have waited for him, he deserves that we do this right. We're already fighting an uphill battle, we ought to at least do right by him."
"Uphill battle?" Aiden asked as he wandered in to join his mate.
Aiden was, of course, followed by his brother and after Ethan, the rest of the Betas walked back in. At least Ennis, Kali and Braeden had the sense to keep out of this. Deucalion heaved a sigh.
"He is a young, smart, beautiful omega. He can have his pick of alphas," Deucalion pointed out. "Surely the two old alphas wanting to court him wouldn't be first choice. Not to mention the pressure of being courted by Pack Alphas, the responsibility that goes along with that."
"Yeah, well," Erica frowned at them. "You better really prove yourself then, because I want Batman in our pack. I know Peter's sister is eager to bring him into her pack too."
"I swear, if Derek hadn't asked Jordan out when he did, Talia was two seconds from arranging a marriage between Derek and Stiles," Isaac muttered beneath his breath with a grin.
"Oh, that's nothing," Peter huffed amused. "Mother once went to the Stilinski home with adoption papers and tried to bribe the sheriff into signing them. When that not worked, she attempted to seduce him with the brilliant logic that if she became Stiles' stepmother, he would also be family."
There was a haunted look on Peter's face, despite his amused tone. That day had been mildly traumatizing and both Peter and Deucalion were very glad that the sheriff had mainly been flustered and politely declined. Deucalion hoped that Dalia would be as pleased to have Stiles as her son-in-law, if Stiles allowed them to court him. Though he genuinely didn't give them much chance at it. In both their eyes, Stiles was the greatest catch this town had to offer and if not for their combined forces to deter potential suitors leading up to Stiles' eighteenth birthday, the boy would probably be beating alphas off with a stick. They were also convinced that there would be many willing alphas giving chase during the mating run, but they were just as sure to best them all. Stiles was theirs.
/break\
Stiles was meant to be theirs, of that Peter was certain. The omega was simply perfect. Ever since Stiles had presented and started hanging out more with the other teen shifters in town, particularly the Hale Pack and the Blackwood Pack, Peter had grown very attached to the boy. His scent was divine, so delicious Peter wanted to eat him up. It had only gotten worse over the past two years. The more time Stiles spent with them, especially in their den, the more Peter wanted him to never leave, wanted to drag the pretty boy into his and Deuc's bedroom and never let him go again.
On Stiles' eighteenth birthday – a large party that Peter's mother had thrown, because she really did adore the boy and the Hale House had the preserve out back, perfect for a large barbecue (Ennis and the sheriff manned the grills) – it had taken all of Peter's self-control to not pin the boy and claim him right then and there. But Deucalion insisted they do it 'right'. After all, their chosen omega was young and it may be legal but was considered inappropriate to court an omega before they had the chance to participate in their first mating run. A month, Peter had to patiently keep his hands and teeth to himself for a month now, waiting for the annual mating run.
"I will tear any alpha apart who dares try to catch our omega," Peter warned dryly.
Deucalion smiled at him. "I wouldn't expect anything less, my love."
The two of them entered the designated area for the mating run. It had been canvased by both packs, the Hale Pack had been hosting the mating run since the foundation of the town and the Blackwood Pack helped them in all things related to the town. Talia had been very pleased when Peter told her that him and Deuc would not help supervise, because they were going to attend the run themselves. And Peter's mother immediately started looking for wedding cakes and flower arrangements.
A pleased smile spread over Peter's lips when he caught sight of that tempting cotton-tail. It was so fluffy and big, shaped like an upside-down heart. Once, Peter had given in to the urge to touch it, to tug on it, and Stiles had bitten his finger off. That had been mortifying and delightful, because Peter loved that their little omega knew how to defend himself. Now, Peter was finally going to earn the privilege of touching that cotton-tail, was going to make Stiles his.
"Are you all prepared for the run?" Deucalion asked when they reached the omegas.
Stiles, Lydia and Erica turned toward them, both Lydia and Erica grinning pleased at them, while Stiles looked surprised. His ears stood up, twitching at attention. Peter loved that, it was so adorable. Not many shifters stayed in half-shift as much as Stiles, but Peter knew that for the boy, it was a comfort. The last thing he had left from his late mother, he cherished it.
"Are you guys helping out too?" Stiles asked. "I saw Kali and Ennis making out behind the cabin earlier. Derek, Jordan and Fiona are around too."
"I told Kali and Ennis to behave themselves," Deucalion heaved a sigh. "No, we are not here to help out. We are here as participants, sweetheart."
He offered a charming smile to Stiles and cupped the boy's cheek, slowly rubbing his thumb over it. Peter smirked as he watched his mate scent-mark their omega. Stiles' nose twitched in confusion.
"Wait, what?" Stiles looked from Peter to Deuc, over to the group of participating alphas.
Everyone was wearing a reflecting bands around their upper arms, including a GPS tracker, just in case. Alphas wore red bands, omegas green. Both Peter and Deuc wore their red bands. Peter caught one of Stiles' hand, drawing circles on the back of Stiles' hand with his thumb.
"We're here to chase you, darling," Peter smiled.
"Huh," Stiles blinked confused before he frowned. "I don't… I don't need your pity. I mean, I appreciate the gesture, but that's… This is… You're the Alphas. Your pity feels embarrassing."
"We do not pity you, sweet one," Deucalion took Stiles' free hand. "We want to compete for the privilege of courting you, Stiles. We want you to be our omega."
"What," Stiles' ears turned toward Deuc, twitching. "Me? Are you… Are you serious?"
"Darling, you are perfect," Peter lifted Stiles' hand up to kiss it. "We have wanted you for quite a while, waiting for today so you can become ours, if you'll have us. But at the very least, we want to prove ourselves to you today. We'll give you chase and we'll catch you, love."
"We know we aren't the… ideal choice, for a young and brilliant omega like you, but we do hope you'll give two old alphas a chance, love," Deucalion lofted Stiles' other hand to also kiss it.
Stiles just stood there, before them both, with his eyes wide and his mouth hanging open, his hands still in theirs. Peter wanted to devour their omega whole, right on the spot. After today. They'd participate in the run, they would prove to Stiles that they were as perfect for him as he was for them and then they would finally get to claim Stiles.
/break\
Stiles had no idea what was happening. Peter and Deuc were wearing participant bands on their arms and they said they wanted to chase him, but that could absolutely not be real. And when he voiced that to Lydia and Erica, he got a pitying pat on the back from Lydia and cackling from Erica.
He didn't get a lot of time to dwell on that before the run actually started. Talia Hale gave the signal and then all the omegas ran, with a five minute head start to the alphas. Stiles, Erica and Lydia were playfully racing each other, going deeper into the preserve, within the marked perimeters for the run. Having fun, laughing, getting warmed up to run from the alphas.
Stiles' ear twitched. "A—and that's it for our fun times. I hear the alphas."
"Bunny ears are practical," Erica frowned at him. "Can you hear Boyd?"
He grinned at his friend, ears adjusting. "Ye—ep, he just roared. Have fun, you two."
"You too," Erica grinned impishly. "Enjoy your alphas when they catch you."
Stiles stumbled a little and glared after her. He still didn't know what exactly Peter and Deuc were up to. It must be pity. They couldn't actually be interested in him. Lydia reached out for his hand, giving it a squeeze and offering a smile before she took off into a different direction than him. It was better to split up during the run and Stiles could already hear Jackson and the twins. They weren't exactly quiet. Stiles licked his lips as he considered something. If he could hear them, why couldn't he hear Deuc and Peter…? They weren't just alphas, they were Alphas. Stiles slowed down and came to a standstill, turning his head back. He watched some alphas in the distance, running into various directions, chasing the different omegas. He frowned.
"Everything alright, pup? The run's not been going on long enough for you to need a break?"
Startled, Stiles turned toward Ennis, slowly walking up to him with a frown. He was wearing the bright pink arm-band of a helper. Mated alphas always chipped in to help. Running around in the woods, people stumbled and hurt themselves, sometimes, some people got a little too anxious about the predator-prey aspect of the chase and had a panic attack or freaked out, and there were always some alphas who tried to go too far and take more than was given. The helpers watched, made sure everyone adhered to the rules and was safe. Ennis approached him with a concerned frown.
"No, don't need a break, I'm fine, En," Stiles shook his head. "I'm just… Did… Did you know that Deuc and Peter are participating in the run? For… For me?"
Ennis laughed and reached out to ruffle his hair. "Everyone in the pack knows. They've been waiting for this day for over a year now. We've all been waiting for it."
"Why?" Stiles frowned at the large alpha.
"Because you've been refusing to join our pack since you think only wolves can," Ennis had a sparkle in his eyes. "Which isn't true, but the non-wolf has to want it. We weren't going to push you into joining our pack, but according to yourself, to join the pack you'd have to be mated into it. So."
Stiles just stared at the alpha baffled. Was he being serious? Did they – the whole pack – actually wanted him in their pack badly enough that they wanted him to get mated to their Alphas…?
"But if they court me, I'd be… Alpha mate?" Stiles asked unsure. "Are you… sure?"
"You're a clever kid, Stiles," Ennis grinned at him. "We could do much worse than that."
Stiles stared at him in bafflement. So they were really fine with that? With Deuc and Peter wanting to court him? He was going to graduate high school next month. He was a loudmouthed brat. Who'd want that as the Alpha mate of their pack…? Plus, he wasn't a wolf! He was a bunny.
"They're taking this seriously, pup," Ennis assured him after a moment. "Wolves take the mating run very seriously. You know, Kali and I did our own version of it. Even though we're both alphas. We did two runs, I chased her and she chased me. The mating run is a means for an alpha to prove themselves to their chosen mate. Strength, speed, cunning, hunting prowess. It matters. Deuc and Peter wouldn't do this in jest or to humor you, which you seem to be thinking."
Stiles wiggled his nose at that and ducked his head. Before Stiles could argue any more, his ears twitched as he heard the familiar sounds of Peter and Deucalion's heartbeats. His leg thumped in excitement and with a last look at Ennis, he took off. Ennis grinned broadly at him, waving.
Stiles' heart was racing as fast as his legs the closer the sounds of Peter and Deucalion came. Growls and howls, like warnings for him. We're coming for you. Stiles' heart leaped into his throat in excitement, adrenaline flooding his system. The fact that he could hear and see other omegas and alphas running around all over the forest only added to the excitement.
"Hello, darling," Peter growled out when the two alphas finally caught up with him.
Much quicker than anticipated. Omegas were built for speed, alphas for strength. It was part of why the tradition was a run. For an alpha to catch an omega was already a feat. But Stiles wasn't just an omega, he was a bunny and they were the quickest. So for them to already be that close was impressive. Stiles aimed a broad grin at them and increased his speed.
"Oh, our pretty bunny is making it hard for us," Peter purred delighted.
"He has always been a challenge," Deucalion sounded pleased. "We always liked that about him."
Stiles' heart stumbled a little at that. They really were serious, weren't they? They wanted him. He ducked under a tree, using his smaller size and quicker feet to shake them off. He'd desperately wanted them for years now. He was not going to make this easy for them.
Time flew by and he was startled by how dark it had gotten already – the run always took place early in the day, to accommodate for it taking up to hours, but it should not be getting dark. Nearly everyone else had either tapped out and given up, or caught/been caught. Stiles could feel his legs burn, but he wasn't giving an inch. No, in fact, he thought it was time for the next step.
A wicked grin spread over his lips as he let himself slip into full shift. Not every shifter could perform full shift. Only born shifters and not even all of them. It wasn't known why only some could, but Deucalion liked to say it was about strength of will. Stiles was one of the few. He thumped in excitement when his paws hit the forest ground and his smaller size allowed him to escape into the underwood. He could hear the wolves growl and howl behind him.
Once he was far ahead of them, he dared turn around to check. He clicked his teeth together in delight when he spotted the two large wolves behind him, Peter with his pitch-black fur and Deucalion, larger and snow-white, both with glowing red eyes. They were really serious about catching him. He thumped his hind-leg in excitement before he took off again.
The chase continued and time melted away, everything faded until it were just Stiles, Peter, Deucalion and the forest floor beneath his paws. By the time Peter had him pinned down, the three of them had been the last ones left on the run and it had been dark for a while. Peter loomed above him, Stiles' neck between his jaws. A wolf's jaws could easily snap a bunny's neck like that, yet the sharp fangs didn't even penetrate his skin, the grip Peter had on him gentle as could be. Deucalion growled low as he circled them and leaned down to lick a stripe up Stiles' face. Peter let go of him.
Stiles shifted back and rolled onto his back, spreading his arms and legs out wide. His lungs burned from hours of relentless running, gasping for breath. His muscles were like jello. Peter above him shifted back too, kneeling between Stiles' legs, his hands on either side of Stiles' face.
"Caught you, little bunny," Peter growled pleased.
"Only because Deuc cut off my path," Stiles grumbled. "I would have escaped you for at least another hour or two, if you just kept chasing after me…"
"Both of us want to catch you, so why shouldn't we work together?" Deucalion asked amused. "Now, Peter, if you could please move. Because we caught the little bunny."
Stiles gasped startled when Peter licked a stripe up his neck, very clearly marking his territory. Stiles flushed curiously when Peter moved aside. Deucalion smiled down at him and leaned down to place a gentle kiss on the other side of Stiles' neck.
"Please allow us to court you, love?" Deucalion requested, near a plea.
"Can we finally wrap this up?" Kali groaned annoyed as she stalked up to them. "You know that just because of you three, every volunteer has been here for an additional three hours? Move."
"Kali!" Ennis laughed as he caught his mate around the waist. "Give them a moment?"
"They had hours," Kali grumbled annoyed. "The two of us should have gotten to be home long ago, instead we're pacing the forest waiting for them to finish."
Stiles' blush intensified in embarrassment. All of the volunteers had been waiting for them? That was a lot of audience, actually. Usually, when an omega got caught, they just got to move on to the cabin where there was a shower, snacks and water for them, while everyone else was busy attending to the other runners. Now, all eyes were on them. Stiles wiggled his nose.
"I don't think I can walk," Stiles blinked doe-eyed. "I can't feel my legs."
Peter huffed out a laugh where he was laying next to Stiles. "Neither can I, darling. You absolutely wrecked us both. I knew you were fast, but… not this fast."
"Adrenaline and instincts," Stiles grinned at him.
"Instincts?" Deucalion frowned at him where he had laid down on Stiles' other side. "Prey instincts, telling you to run away from the predators chasing you, darling?"
Stiles tilted his head to look at the Alpha with a teasing smile. "Omega instincts, telling me not to make it easy for my alphas so they'll have to show me what they got."
Deucalion stared at him with dark eyes and reached an arm out to wrap around Stiles' waist. "So, have we proven ourselves to you? Are we… allowed to court you?"
"You are allowed to clear the premises," Kali called out.
"I do think we really tested her patience," Deucalion blinked amused and set up. "Come along."
"Deuc, I was serious, I spent every last drop of adrenaline on this, I am empty. I'm sleeping out here tonight," Stiles huffed. "Comfy bed of grass, stars above, I'll be good."
"Absolutely not, love," Deucalion furrowed his brows and pushed one arm beneath Stiles' knees and the other under his back. "I will bring you home, so you can sleep in your own bed."
Stiles curled his fingers into Deucalion's shirt as he leaned against the Alpha's chest. "Or you could bring me to your place and I could sleep in your bed."
Deucalion froze and Peter, halfway getting up from the ground, also paused to stare at him. "Dear-"
"Just to sleep!" Stiles yelped embarrassed. "I just… I always feel safe at your house and I am, right now, probably the most defenseless I've ever been. I liked what we just did, laying together like that. I'd like falling asleep like that tonight. If that's okay."
"If that's okay," Peter parroted and then grunted startled. "Of course it's okay. It's everything I have wanted for the past two years, little bunny."
"Are you sure, darling?" Deucalion asked with furrowed brows.
"Am I…" Stiles stared at Deuc. "Yes. Yes, I am very sure, I have wanted you for so long, how… Look, we will so have a whole conversation on why the fuck you never said anything, not even when I had my whole pity party at your house about this run, but I truly do not have the energy for that argument right now and I just kinda wanna roll around in the warm feeling of you two actually chasing and catching me. Because yes, you have my permission to court me."
A pleased growl rumbled in Deucalion's chest as he hugged Stiles even closer. Peter stepped up to them with a warm smile and reached out to caress Stiles' cheek. His fingers wandered to run through Stiles' hair and then tracing Stiles' long bunny ear.
"Let's get you home then, little bunny," Deucalion smiled at him.

They didn't get to bring their bunny home directly, Talia insisted on checking them all through first. They had over exhausted themselves. After a quick check up, Deucalion got to carry their omega into their pack house and into their bed though. Stiles plundered their closet and went for a muscle relaxing bubble bath while Deucalion and Peter just collapsed onto their bed, not moving.
"I can't believe you carried him here," Peter muttered. "I'm still impressed I managed to get off the floor. Honestly, his idea of sleeping in the forest seemed much more appealing than walking."
"Pride," Deucalion drawled. "Pride and stubborn determination were what made me carry him. He's ours now, Peter, and I want him to know that his alphas have him and will take care of him."
Peter chuckled fondly and leaned up to kiss Deucalion's cheek. "Admirable, dear. But I am not leaving this bed tomorrow. Our bunny wore me out. Even with Alpha healing, I doubt I'll be able to walk tomorrow. I am impressed by him, once again."
"And delighted," Deucalion grinned, feeling eager like a teenager again. "You heard him, his omega instincts made him run that long and that fast, because he wants us."
He wrapped his arms around Peter and pulled the other wolf close enough to bury his nose in Peter's hair. Against all odds, Stiles wanted them, as much as they wanted him. The bathroom door opened and Stiles walked in to crawl into bed with them and curled together between them.
"I will now sleep for the next twelve hours," Stiles announced sleepily. "Good night, love you."
Deucalion stared at the omega wondrously at the casual declaration of love, but Stiles was already out like a candle. Peter made a soft noise and wrapped his arms tightly around Stiles' waist.
"He said he loves us," Peter whispered, looking up at Deuc. "He really is ours, isn't he?"

When Peter woke up the next morning, his nose was buried between Stiles' shoulder-blades and he got to drown in the omega's perfect, sweet scent. Everything smelt like honey, like Stiles. Peter wanted that every day for the rest of their lives.
"Okay," Stiles' voice was sleepy. "Now the hard conversation. Why didn't you tell me?"
"Good morning to you too, love," Peter chuckled, pressing a kiss to Stiles' neck.
"Mh," Stiles smelt happy. "Okay, yeah, can and will get used to that. Answer the question."
"You only turned eighteen a month ago, my love," Deucalion sighed. "Before that, you were underage and we do have… optics to think about. We are pack Alphas, and you were the underage son of the sheriff. You are a wonderful and perfect omega, we wanted to do right by you, chase you and properly court you, that's why we waited and didn't tell you after your birthday. It was only a month, we thought… it wasn't all that long, we… We're not perfect, darling, even pack Alphas and men our age make mistakes, it seems. I… I'm sorry, if I had known how much stress this caused you, I would have agreed to Peter's pushing."
"Because Peter, for the record, wanted to declare our intentions on your birthday," Peter interjected.
Those clever golden-brown eyes stared at them intensely, before he nodded. "Okay, yeah. I can… see the logic behind that. I just… I never thought… I stood a chance with you."
"A chance?" Peter huffed and leaned over Stiles to look down at the bunny. "Darling, you have had us wrapped around your little finger since you presented."
"...Oh," Stiles blinked, his cheeks flushing. "Really?"
"Your scent has drawn us in since then," Deucalion admitted. "Your clever mind, your sharp wit, darling you are the only person able to keep Peter on his toes when it comes to snarky sarcasm and I can use all the help I can get when it comes to that."
Stiles cackled and turned enough to look at Peter. "Yeah, that's right, isn't it?"
"Undeniably true," Peter agreed, slowly bridging the last inch between their lips. "Can I…"
He didn't get to finish that sentence, because Stiles grabbed him by the neck and pulled him into a proper kiss. Soft lips tasted so perfectly sweet. When their kiss broke, he pulled Stiles close and got to watch the way Deucalion and Stiles looked when kissing and oh, they looked so perfect.
"Despite having you in our bed right now, we will court you properly," Deucalion declared.
"Oh, I expect nothing less," Stiles grinned cheekily. "Only the best from my alphas."
The thrill Peter felt at Stiles' words was overwhelming. They were his alphas now.
