the-original-sineater asked: The OTP 12 month challenge: February: "it made me think of you"

Valentines Day wasn't really celebrated on Tracy Island. Not because there were no partners or prospective partners, but because it was Gordon's birthday and as such was a much more important celebration.

That's not to say St Valentine was forgotten completely. Gordon made sure to organise something for Penny and Virgil had his admirers and would not leave them out, but their celebrations were inevitably on whichever day they were free rather than on the day itself.

Scott hadn't celebrated this particular day since he was a gangly, nerdy twelve-year-old, clutching a small heart-shaped box of chocolates for Jasmina Singh, the last girl he'd expressed an interest in before their family changed forever.

(There may have been later girls as teenage hormones took over, but not once was there a box of chocolates or a sappy card.)

This year, of course, was different.

That kiss…that kiss had changed everything. But they were still so new to being a couple, not even together for a month yet, and so they had mutually decided to not worry about Valentine's Day this year.

It felt right.

Of course, the world carried on its self-destructive mission and the day in question arrived with the usual flurry of rescues and with Kayo off somewhere Scott knew not, helping the GDF in partnership with a certain Captain.

There was barely any time to celebrate Gordon's birthday – they all made it home with barely half an hour left of the day – but MAX had saved the day and they all found themselves seated around a small fire on the beach eating cake and drinking hot chocolate.

Kayo cut it even finer, arriving with three minutes to spare, but she handed over his present and flopped down beside Scott with a groan that spoke volumes as to how her mission went.

As the night moved from one day to the next the chatter became less and less until Scott called it a night, helping a dozy Alan to his feet before picking the young teen up and carrying him home. Alan would be mortified later that he'd needed to be carried like a child, but right now he was comfortable in his brother's arms and was asleep again before Scott had taken more than a couple of steps.

Kayo stayed and helped Virgil and Gordon clear up the beach of their 'wild partying' before heading back to the villa.

To no one's surprise Scott was already sat at the desk with several screens up and in the middle of writing a report. Virgil nudged Kayo's shoulder as she paused and they carried on past. The message was clear and she grinned at them.

"He's all yours."

Kayo weighed up her options. Enticing Scott away from the desk was not in any way an easy task, but she had a secret weapon. Several secret weapons in fact. One of which she was about to put into practice.

She turned about and walked down to the kitchen and set about making more hot chocolate, but with a twist. Kayo pulled down her hidden stash of 100% dark chocolate, measured the right amount of flakes into full-fat milk and then added some spices while whipping them up together with a little bit of cornflour to thicken it.

Topping them up with cream and marsh mallows, Kayo made her way back upstairs where Scott was in exactly in the same place as before. He smiled up at her as she place one in front of him but then got back to work.
Watching him for a moment as she sipped her drink, Kayo couldn't help but notice the grey that was beginning to fleck his temples.

Scott yawned suddenly and that was her cue.

Placing her cup aside, Kayo pushed his chair back and perched on the desk, completely blocking his access.

'Kay?'

'Time for bed, Scott.'

'I just got a couple more…'

'Not tonight, kekasih saya. I have something for you.'

He let her pull him up by his hands and Kayo held on tight to one as she pulled him along. It didn't last for long as Scott suddenly caught her around her waist, hoisted her over his shoulder and ran the rest of the distance to her room. The girly shriek as he tossed her up caused Scott to laugh, and by the time he'd thrown her onto the bed they were both giggling.

Scott threw himself down beside her but Kayo had already rolled off and was rummaging in her bag, so he scooted up the bed and watched her. Eventually she found what she'd been looking for and turned to face him. She was grinning broadly.

'Aha!'

'What is it?'

'Wouldn't you like to know!'

'I would!'

'Scooch over.'

He duly shifted over and Kayo jumped onto the bed beside him, sitting cross-legged and holding something small in her hands.

'I know we said we wouldn't do Valentine's day, but…'

Suddenly a little shy that she'd overstepped the mark, Kayo looked down, dropped the package into her lap and twisted her hands. Scott reached over and gently lifted her chin.

'But what?'

'I had a little time and found myself wandering down some of the little lanes where I was and I saw these in the window. I couldn't resist.'

Handing over the package, wrapped neatly in silver and blue striped paper, Kayo nervously bit on a strand of hair.

With a smile of appreciation Scott accepted the gift and carefully unwrapped it, mindful as always to keep the wrapping in one piece, and slid it out into his palm.

The gift was a pair of silver cufflinks. They were art deco falcons on both sides, and inside they were engraved 'HH'.

Scott's mouth fell open.

'Are these…did you…How? How did you…?'

'I just saw them and knew. They made me think of you. And then I saw the engraving and found out who they once belonged to – allegedly – and knew I had to have them.'

'Tin – I love them!'

'Good. Good.'

He put the cufflinks carefully onto the side table and then leaned in for a kiss which was enthusiastically reciprocated.
