"I don't want to be a burden."
"You're not going to be a burden, Naririo." Yasuha said as they walked through the streets of Domino City.
"I don't want to intrude on anyone."
"You're not going to intrude either."
Suddenly cop cars sped past them causing the two to stop and watch them speed down the road. "I wonder what that's all about?" Naririo said in confusion.
"I don't know… let's find out!" Yasuha ran after the cops, looking around he noticed everything around become more clear. "No, No!" He shouted, running faster. Stopping behind the cop cars he watched in horror as cops entered his house, running forward, cops stopped him. "This is my house!" He pushed through them before running inside.
"Mom, Dad, Betty!" He yelled.
"Woah, Woah!" A cop said. "Calm down."The cop held his hand out.
"Don't tell me to calm down!" He shouted, slapping the hand away. "Where's my family!"
"We don't know, we got a call saying there was a crime here… we can't find anything. It must have been a false alarm."
"A false alarm?" He looked toward the ground. "No, No…" He shook his head. "I want my family, now!" Suddenly the corded phone started ringing.
Yasuha rushed to the phone and answered. "Mr. Masashi!"
"Yasuha?" A sweet little voice asked.
Yasuha was shocked, he stood there in silence. "Yasuha… are you there?"
"Bet-Betty… where are you?"
"I don't know…" She looked around. "Somewhere dark… I can't see anything, sorry big brother."
"No, No… don't apologize…" His voice shook. "Are… Are you okay?"
"I think so…"
"What happened to you?"
"Well well, if it isn't my old friend, Yasuha Hitoshi…" A man's voice appeared out of nowhere.
"Let them go, Mr. Masashi!"
"You took something from me, I take something from you."
"What are you talking about… What do you want?!"
"You catch on quick… for a thief!"
"I didn't do anything!" He said louder.
"Of course you didn't…" He chuckled. "If you want them back, you're going to have to do something for me." He said in a sing-song tone.
"What is it!?"
"I want the cleansing rune."
"Fine…"
"Ah Ah Ah…" He interrupted. "I want all of them, and you're going to get them… you have one week."
"How am I supposed to get them in one week?"
"Not my problem, if you get the cops involved, you can say bye bye to sweet, sweet Betty. I will know, I have people everywhere… oh and Yasuha?"
"What!"
"Aren't you regretting not beating me!" He chuckled before hanging up.
Yasuha growled and slammed the phone back on it's mantle. "Who was that?" The cop asked.
He looked at him slightly. "Wrong number!"
"Wrong number? We can help if something is happening?"
He shook his head. "No, you can't." He breathed out heavily.
The cop huffed in amusement and walked toward him. "Good choice." He whispered in his ear.
The situation became more clear to him then before as the cop smiled in return and imitated himself being shot in the head, before walking out of the house. "Let's go people!" He shouted. "Pack it up."
A few minutes later Naririo knocked on the door and walked in. "Yasuha?" He asked as he stood blankly.
"He has my family." He said softly, looking toward him.
"Who?"
"Who do you think?!"
Naririo thought a second before realizing. "Why can't we go to the cops, and tell them what happened?"
"We can't…" He shook his head.
"Why not?"
"He owns them!" He shouted. "There is nothing I can do!" He bent over and let out a rage induced scream, standing up straight he looked at Naririo, chuckling he covered his mouth. "He wants me to do an impossible task in a week, and I can't do it!"
"What the hell is so funny about that!" He said sternly.
"I have no idea…" He raised his arms to the side of him and slapped them on his sides. "I don't even know where to start!"
What is this "impossible task?" He asked stepping forward.
"He wants me to find all of the cleansing runes in seven days."
"We have three already… that's an advantage."
"Not a big one, we don't even know where the other four are."
"I guess that's true…" He grabbed his chin in thought. "Hey! I know a someone who might be able to help."
"Who's that?"
"His name is Oto Phutemo."
"Who is this Oto Phutemo guy?" Yasuha asked as the two rushed through Domino City.
"He's a card dealer… He knows everything and knows everyone."
"How do you even know him?"
"The Orphanage… come on, this is it." He said stopping at a gate. Finding the opening he pulled it back far enough, allowing the two to get in.
"What is this place?" Yasuha asked walking through the abandoned area with abandoned businesses everywhere, along with boarded up houses scattered around.
"People say this used to be a popular part of Domino City until they closed it down."
"Why is that?"
"No one knows."
"Is it legal?"
Naririo chuckled. "You have Mr. Hasashi, and dirty cops after you. I don't think you want to use the word legal."
"You know what I mean." He said, nervously looking around.
"Relax… nothing bad should happen."
The farther they walked down the area they started hearing music. The closer they got, the ground started shaking as pebbles bounced around. "Why is it so loud!?" Yasuha shouted in confusion.
"Welcome to the club!" He shouted in response. Stopping at a broken-down building, Naririo opened a broken-down door, revealing thousands of people behind it.
Yasuha's eyes widened as they walked through the area. There were tables all around with Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards on top, along with merchants selling them inside their jackets.
"Welcome to the market!" Naririo shouted with a smile.
"This place is amazing, there's cards in here I don't even recognize!"
"That's the point!"
"What do you mean!?"
"Let's just say… they get the first shipment! Come on, we need to meet Oto!" He interrupted him before he could speak. The two walked through the crowd until they stopped at a large area where people dueled. "That's him!" He pointed at a skinny man wearing a black overcoat along with black clothes, a black top hat, and fingerless gloves sitting in a chair as he watched the duels.
Walking toward him the man smiled. "Naririo…" He stood up and hugged him, causing the music to stop playing, and everyone to look at the two. "How's everything?"
"Great, just great… I met Pegasus, himself, at Duelist Kingdom."
"Cap, I don't believe you."
"I'm not lying…" He shook his head. "He talked to Yasuha and I."
"Stop lying, bro." Another guy said.
"Yasuha, tell them."
"Why? You told them the truth… I'm going to tell them we met Pegasus; they're going to say… Cap. Why can't you just say you're lying, like that guy did?"
"That's the way we talk… "Yasuha."
Yasuha huffed in annoyance. "Can we ask them for help already?" He pointed toward them.
"What's going on?" Oto asked.
"I need more pieces of the Cleansing runes."
"No can do… yours was the only one I've ever had."
"How did you get it?"
"I can't tell you that, that's confidential… people would stop coming to me if they knew I blabbed about that type of thing."
What do you know about Mr. Masashi?" Yasuha asked.
Everyone went silent as whispers skipped around. "Do you have a death wish? No one says that name around here… he's got eyes and ears everywhere." He whispered.
"He kidnapped my family."
"Forget about it, they're dead anyway." He said walking away. "Let the part…"
"Oto…" Yasuha was interrupted as cars broke through the destroyed building. "It's the cops!" Someone yelled.
Everybody scattered causing the cops to jump out of the cars and run after them. Yasuha ran after Oto causing Naririo to run after them. "You know something about my family!" Yasuha shouted.
"Forget about it!" Oto yelled, throwing his top hat to the side, along with his overcoat.
The three ran through the area before running toward a dead end, by a fenced gate. Oto jumped toward a building, kicked off of it and jumped over the fence. "Oto!" Yasuha shouted, running into the gate. "Where's my family!"
"Forget about it; it doesn't end well for people who steal from Mr. Masashi."
"I didn't steal anything!"
"He thinks you did, and that's even worse… believe me, your family is dead."
"Why should I believe you!?"
"The same reason you chased after me." He looked around before running away, seconds later a car sped out of nowhere and hit him. Flipping over the car he landed on his chest, the driver got out of the car and knelt next to him, flipping him on his back he stood up and shot him in the chest multiple times except for the final shot which was in the head.
Yasuha and Naririo watched this event happen and stood in shock. The driver turned around and smiled at them before waving. "Yasuha… Yasuha!" Naririo shouted. "Let's go!" He shouted running in the opposite direction. Yasuha quickly followed.
The wheels spun trying to find traction in the dirt before speeding off after them, crashing down the gate it made its way closer and closer to them. The two ran as fast as their feet would allow them. "Naririo!" Yasuha shouted.
"Jump!" He shouted, diving to the side. Yasuha followed and dove out of the way causing the car to miss them and speed past them. The car quickly turned around and stared at them.
"Are you okay, Naririo?" Yasuha asked, getting up he looked at him before the car whose engine was being revved.
"I'm fine…" He stood up. "We're not going to be able to run away from the car." He sighed. "I'm sorry."
"You don't have to apologize… I wish I knew what Mr. Masashi wanted!" He yelled at the car. "What do you do for him? Right now it seems like you just sit in your car!"
"Are you scared of a couple of teenagers!?" Naririo yelled. "You're pathetic!" He grabbed a rock and threw it at the car, hitting it, the front window cracked.
The car sped toward them in retaliation, aiming for Naririo; Naririo jumped to the side, stumbling forward he fell beside Yasuha. "I think you made him mad."
"I would agree with that!" He groaned as he stood up.
The car quickly turned around. "Run!" Yasuha shouted, running away from it. Naririo followed.
Yasuha looked inward to the abandoned area and saw a car speeding through. "We have company!" He shouted breathily.
"Great!" Naririo shouted back breathily. "That's what we needed… more trouble!"
The car behind them was getting closer to them when he was sideswiped by another car. The car was thrown and rolled multiple times as the driver was launched out of the car and exploded when he slammed into a building, soon after the building collapsed.
Another car stopped in front of Naririo and Yasuha startling them, trying to stop they tripped and slammed into the vehicle knocking them both out.
Yasuha felt someone's warm hand against his cheek as he gained consciousness, groaning he leaned into the warmth. "Mom?" He asked silently, opening his eyes a little, he saw a distorted figure sitting next to him before losing consciousness again.
He groaned as he heard distorted voices talking to each other. A bright light went in his vision before leaving; seconds later another light went in his other eye before leaving. "He should be waking up any minute." A lady spoke.
"You did hit him with your car." A man spoke.
"Get out of here!" She chuckled.
The man laughed; his laugh got quieter before the door shut.
"Yasuha?" The lady asked. "Can you hear me?" She asked, placing her hand on his.
He shook his head. "Mom?" He asked, opening his eyes, his eyes still blurred and distorted, a few seconds later the lady became more clear. Staring at her he felt his heart shatter. "You're not…"
The dark red-haired lady shook her head. "I'm not your mom, I did work with her though."
"I've never seen you." He said softly.
"That's the point." She smiled.
"What made you come after me?"
"Your mom called me a few days ago and told me to protect you."
Yasuha shuttered. "Does that mean?" His voice cracked.
"I'm afraid so." She said softly, rubbing her thumb on his hand."I'm sorry."
He put his hand over his eyes as his lip quivered. "This is all my fault…" He softly sobbed.
"It's not your fault." She wrapped her arms around him in a hug as he continued sobbing on her shirt. "You're going to be okay." She whispered.
The man opened the refrigerator and grabbed a can, opening it he started drinking. Turning around the lady closed a door on the balcony and walked down the stairs. "How is he doing?"
"Not so good… I have him calmed down." She stopped in front of him. "Lucy was such a good person." She sighed. Grabbing the can, she took a sip. Furrowing her eyebrows she gave it back to him. "Don't drink that while the kids are here."
He huffed in amusement. "Who knew we were going to have kids."
She chuckled in response. "Let's get to bed, it's getting late." She looked at the clock. "12:49"
The man opened the cabinet underneath the counter and threw the can in a trash can. The two walked into a room under the balcony and shut the door.
Meanwhile in Yasuha's room. Yasuha was in and out of consciousness, his eyes bloodshot as he continued crying. He jumped when a corded phone rang sitting on the nightstand.
Looking around the room he swallowed as his breathing grew shaky. Reaching forward he grabbed and picked it up. Slowly placing against his ear he listened.
"Yasuha!"
Yasuha shuttered when he heard the voice. "What do you want Mr. Masashi?!"
"Do you like spoilers?" He asked. "Myself, I don't… so how do you think I felt when I heard that people were telling you that your family died? So…" He sighed, calming himself down. "I…" He grunted. "Have another proposition for you."
"I'm done doing things for you!?"
"Really?" He asked. The sound of a door squeaking open was heard, everything went silent before he spoke again. "Say hello, dear."
A muffled cry was heard through the phone. "Tsushima doesn't think so… but then again, she did just witness her mom and sister being killed. Have you ever met her younger sister? She was so yummy." He said creepily.
"You will not get away with this!"
"Woah… Listen to the tough guy… You've grown up!" He chuckled. "You should be careful with that… you don't want anything happening to Tsushima." He dragged his finger under her chin and lifted her head up to face him.
"But then again… I might have to let you go."
Yasuha lowered the phone and sniffled, he felt his chest tighten as his tears started flowing. "Why did you call?" He asked, able to contain himself.
"Oh… yes, If you want your precious friend back, you will find the runes. If you have help from the little mercenaries, I will know and kill your friend… if you go to the police I will know."
"I get it… how am I supposed to find them?"
"Why should I tell you?
"You must know where they are, if you want me to get them."
"I always told you; you were smart. Isn't he? I will give you one at a time, and only one. The first one is in a mansion two miles into Domino City, you'll know it when you see it.
"What about Tsushima? Is she going to stay unharmed?"
"What fun would that be?" He chuckled. A muffled scream was heard before the phone call ended.
Yasuha hung up the phone and looked at it. A couple minutes later a knock appeared on his door before it opened.
"How much of that did you hear?" Yasuha asked softly.
"Enough." Naririo said, walking in he closed the door. "What's our plan?"
Yasuha shook his head with it lowered. "I don't know."He said softly.
"We both agree to get Tsushima back, alive."
"Yeah." He sniffled, wiping his nose, he turned his head to look at Naririo.
"Then we better get moving." Naririo said.
Yasuha nodded his head and stood up. "We're going to need fresh decks."
"I have that covered." He walked out of the room, about ten minutes went by before he came back with a black duffle bag.
Yasuha, who was now sitting on the bed, stood up. "What took so long!"
"Don't rush an artists." He laid the duffle bag on the bed and opened it, revealing hundreds of Yu-Gi-Oh cards.
"Where did you get these?"
"We're in a warehouse…" He placed his hand out in front of him. "In other words, I am really good at my job." He reached into the duffle bag and started looking at the cards.
"These aren't our cards." Yasuha grabbed Naririos' arm.
"Do you want to save Tsushima or not!" He growled, glaring at him.
Yasuha looked toward the bed. "That's what I thought." Naririo grabbed his hand and took it off his arm. "You're lucky we're friends, anybody else touch me like that would be lying in the ground… now build a deck." He punched his shoulder.
Yasuha sighed and reached into the duffle bag, his eyes widened, and a smile came across his face as he looked at the cards. "That's what I'm talking about." Naririo chuckled.
Yasuha huffed in amusement and sat on the bed as he searched through the cards. Yasuha stretched as he got off the bed, stretching his back he looked at the clock. "It's been an hour!" He yawned.
"Did you build your deck?"
"Right here." He held out a deck.
"Then we better get to work." Naririo said.
