A/N: Thanks for liking this fanfic. This chapter should be relatable to those who have jobs and can't wait to get home.
White Fox was at a conference with the Avengers. The National Intelligence Service had to fund the Atlas Foundation, and to their frustration, the Avengers would allow the operation in San Francisco if they could observe the new Atlas members' capabilities. A reluctant agreement was reached despite the organization's wish to operate without American heroes supervising them.
"On behalf of the South Korean National Intelligence Service, we can only agree if your assistance remains temporary" White Fox attempted negotiation.
"Not that we don't trust you or your secret agency but you can't just forget we are the top team of USA crime fighters" Tony Stark pointed out, "So you can't do whatever you want and expect us to not look for anything that screams 'bad idea' okay?"
"Stark" Captain America warned, "Manners, remember?" The first avenger then glared as Tony raised his arms in a mocking surrender. "Lately a lot of…'new' vigilante teams are being formed so Atlas shouldn't be that surprising, if that is all then—"
"Actually…" White Fox inhaled and exhaled deeply, "There is another project we would like to begin operating in San Francisco"
"Thank you, Fox, but I will take it from here" Jimmy Woo spoke up and all the Avengers' eyes widened. Ant-Man (Scott Lang) whispered to Falcone.
"I was sure the guy was mute or didn't know English well"
White Fox ignored the subtle comment, she was glad none of the Avengers knew the various abilities of her species. So far they were only aware of her strength and sharp claws.
As Jimmy was explaining his idea of constructing a school for gifted individuals (and saying why he couldn't just send 'gifted' Pan Asian students to Professor X's mansion), Ami checked her phone that was on her lap. A few texts from her spider themed girlfriend had been sent.
Ghost Spider sent texts such as:
Is the meeting less boring than a slow day of crime fighting?
Ami replied with:
Depends, what have you done today?
Gwen answered back with:
The most cliché superhero things that you'd think only happened in old cartoons.
She sent an Instagram link some civilian posted of Ghost Spider having minor but still noticeable scratch marks on her mask and shoulders. She was trying to hold a cat that didn't seem pleased with her. The fact that Gwen was willing to do hero work that was far less urgent than rescuing cats from trees was admirable. She smiled an chuckled a little until Bruce Banner cleared his throat. Ami suddenly snapped back to the reality that she was in the middle of a meeting and was caught texting during the discussion. Sitting straight and placing her phone back in her pocket.
"White Fox, pay attention if you have it" Jimmy arched an eyebrow. Then he continued talking. Ami was eager to end the meeting and head to an important place in the city.
After the meeting was over, Ami walked to a Mercedes car and as she took the ride, she looked at her phone. Gwen already sent a few texts.
G: So are you done with the meeting?
A: Yes, and I want to relax in the best place in the city.
G: Oh yeah? Where might that be?
A: Not telling, so just guess for the time being.
Ami sent a heart emoji after that.
Ghost Spider had a slow day of crime fighting. It was not a good thing to wish for crime to happen but today felt like the misery of an ordinary job. On her patrol, she stopped a bike thief, helped a lost woman and tried retrieving an aggressive cat.
She was grateful that her spiders were regenerating the scratch marks but Ami would have wanted to treat her medically anyway.
It was a strange feeling for Gwen to be open about more than half of who she is to someone who was not part of the spider-verse. It was weirder to rely on someone to aid her, she should not be so codependent but Ami…just makes it easy to forget why she used to be alone.
That fact should be a threat to her vow, but maybe Ami's smile just sugarcoated it. When just her name came as an intrusive thought, she would immediately text her.
First thing she text is who had least exciting day with clear sarcasm. Ghost Spider beamed the minute the chat said Ami was typing. She paced around a construction crane that nobody was using at the moment.
Would she be saying something charmer or say she was too busy to talk?
Either way, the spider would be satisfied with the fox responding instantly. Her reply was a 'how was your day?' basic politeness. No need to be polite as their relationship had already reached the stage of playful teasing. Ami would say something like this if she was flirting and Gwen wasn't stupid enough to dismiss the flirtation.
Wait…flirtation?
Gwen shook her head and hung herself upside down as she texted back and sent a link image of her saving a cat. Ami would definitely be laughing, nobody thinks vigilantes would do something so cliché. She would have beam if they had this conversation face to face. Then she sent a text:
Are you done with the meeting?
Ami: Yes, and I want to relax in the best place in the city.
As Gwen asked where that might be so she could join in, a construction laborer started yelling at Ghost Spider to get off the crane. She rolled her eyes and started swinging away through town.
She checked her phone again once she made it back to her apartment. Opening the window while reading Ami's reply saying she should guess. Then she heard someone unlocking her apartment door so she shifted invisible. She couldn't even breathe out in relief that it was just her vixen.
Ami was already in her civilian outfit and called out to see if the blonde was already home. Silence made her decided to keep her wig on. As she placed her special lunch on the counter that she made for Gwen, she started smiling at something in her apartment that caught her eye.
She didn't realize Gwen was right behind her and greeted her with a swoopy lift embrace from behind. "Scoopy Swoopy!" The blonde laughed as she lifted Ami up and then carried her bridal style to the couch.
"My, my, quite the gentleman" Ami cooed as Gwen placed her on the couch. She then shot a web string at the two lunch boxes and yanked them to her. Before they opened, Ami remembered something. She placed her hand on top of Gwen's to prevent her from opening the lid. "No eating until I treat your scratch marks"
"I'm fine! It's just minor scratches"
"Minor scratches that need to be checked" Ami checked her face and found most of them were healed. She still took out alcohol substance put on a cloth and rub her wounds, "Was saving a cat ALL you did today?"
"I'd say I had class but I guess I'd just bore you with an explanation"
Ami frowned, "Nothing you say or do has ever bored me" She said with a frown as Gwen winced.
"Not even my over explaining about my favorite bands?" Gwen smirked and Ami just giggled.
"Your taste in music is actually on brand for you, it wouldn't make sense if you listened to Taylor Swift or Doja Cat" Ami stated, "And I could listen to Linkin Park for hours as long as you're around"
"And I bet the boardroom meeting was a major snooze fest huh?" Gwen teased.
"I am an adult Gwen"
Gwen made a curious smirk, "What did your organization send you to the Avengers for?"
"My superior wants to build a school for unusually gifted children that are of pan Asian race" Ami could tell by Gwen's face what she was going to ask. "I know the X-men are already doing that but Jimmy Woo isn't looking to join them"
"Wow…and during university I had to listen to a lecture about forensics"
"We both had that type of day superheroes do not usually have but…" Ami trailed as she started noticing Gwen's look of eye contact. "Maybe we should appreciate and take advantage of it" She smiled softly as her lips embraced her girlfriend's who returned it for a few seconds before wincing.
It could be assumed the cat scratched her on the lips, but that wouldn't be possible with Gwen having her mask on. What Gwen didn't tell Ami was that she got a bump on her upper lip that Ami bit intimately. No way would she tell her since the fox wanted to kiss her since the meeting.
