Chapter 16: Afterwards
After Duckie went to the hospital and everyone else could only go home, the police searched for Boozoo. They found the body of him in the abandoned house. It was a scary sight for every officer involved. Officer M would go on to publicly say that seeing the body of Boozoo was the scariest thing he had ever seen. However, he wasn't the only one. Many claimed it was scarier than the bodies of Lorenzo and Rachel Waterman.
Yes, their bodies were also found, but underneath the fallen abandoned factory. While they didn't turn out the same way Boozoo did, it was still scary nonetheless. How their bodies were recovered was quite interesting despite circumstances. It was a few days after things had come to an end, when the collapsed factory was being cleared, their bodies were found under the ground. The occurance was strange and one that couldn't be explained.
For better or for worse, Paxton Raglan's body was never found. The police car though was found completely demolished in a junkyard somewhere in the woods. The owner of the junkyard who had connections with Boozoo was arrested as soon as the police discovered this.
Pictures of the scenes were taken, but any pictures of Boozoo, Lorenzo, or Rachel were never released publicly at the time for being too disturbing. Eventually, someone on the internet would upload it themselves whose identity remains unknown. It started when Boozoo's pictures surfaced on December 31st 2020, showing Boozoo melted in an indescribable way, somewhere within the abandoned house. It became clear why it scared Officer M and other officers in the way it did. Then on November 1st 2024, Lorenzo and Rachel's pictures surfaced, showing Rachel with very visable damage from whatever she experienced, same with Lorenzo as his eyes were still open even after whatever he experienced. Two were standing over Lorenzo in one of his pictures, seemingly observing him at the time, presumably Detectives Lowell and Barrington.
With Ebenezer Boozoo Sr as well as Lorenzo and Rachel Waterman dead, the whole thing ends here right? Well, not really. There was still several unanswered questions that needed answers, especially now that everyone knew who the Waterman's boss was. Luckily for Brighton and Nash-Lake police, they would get answers and possible reasonings behind Boozoo's motivations.
Between then and the month of December, both police departments discovered interesting bits of information. Some of this proved crucial to the unanswered questions. They also found things that weren't discovered or discussed before. Some of it was about Mister and Missus Waterman, but a majority of it was in regards to Ebenezer Boozoo Sr himself.
As it was already seen, Boozoo made himself known to Officers M and G when attempting to get the book and money back. For someone who was so sure to keep his indentity secret, he sure seemed to admit to it awfully quick. Why was this? The most likely explanation was that Boozoo knew that the police found out his secrets. After all, there was no sense of denying if they knew.
Looking into his past, it seemed the police had more answers to his motivations than they did with the Waterman couple. Ebenezer was born in 1908 in Washington DC. His parents were Caroline and Atherton Boozoo, but these two were far from great people. Reportedly, the Boozoo family had a series of problems that lasted for generations. Ranging from alcoholism to mental illness. To what extent Ebenezer Sr was exposed to wasn't known, but police suspected that he was neglected and even possibly abused at that time.
This also reopened something strange that had happened just a day after Ebenezer moved out so he could live in Brighton. Caroline and Atherton were found dead in their home, their food had been poisoned. Authorities at the time suspected Ebenezer, but not enough evidence could be proven it was him. Knowing the demons he had started to develop and wanting to get away from his old life, the likelihood of him murdering his bad parents seemed even higher than it previously looked. Boozoo's past also made authories look back onto Lorenzo and Rachel's pasts too, despite them being covered in speculation.
Lorenzo Waterman was born in 1927 in Brighton. His parents were Pam and Marcus Waterman, two farmers who made quite the living. There was speculation that his home life was rough, but never confirmed by Lorenzo himself at any given point. Both his mother and father's personal lives were never known outside of home, let alone in front of anyone Lorenzo didn't know. So it was mostly the same for him, just speculation. His wife on the other hand, seemed to have more evidence to what was theorized.
Rachel Waterman, maiden name Hathaway, was also born in 1927 in Brighton. Her father Christian Hathaway was in and out of jail for petty crimes, while her mother Heather Hathaway was not emotionally stable at times. It seemed more likely Rachel was abused, much like Ebenezer seemed to be. Lorenzo could be in the catagory of what they are seemingly in, but nobody could say for sure.
While speculation was still very much in the air, something that wasn't speculation was the evidence of what the photo book used to have. Any evidence the kids quickly turned over to Officer M. Both police departments examined the photos of the photo book and what it had before it got burned. It didn't take long for them to connect the dots.
Detective Lowell would go on to say this, "Some victims were related to others that Boozoo didn't like. The evidence presented to us give the impression that he went after his enemie's relatives as a way of making them suffer, since any killings of the enemies themselves would go right back to him due to direct conflict prior."
One of Boozoo's enemies was a badger named Keith Robbins, a toy creator who sued the old man back in 1966 for straight up copying one of his creations and eventually won the lawsuit. Boozoo, likely out of pure anger from losing the lawsuit, called up the Watermans and they paid a visit by Robbin's house while Robbins himself and his wife were out. They ended up losing two sons.
Another enemy of Boozoo was a human much like himself, her name was Eva Green. She was another toy creator who sued Boozoo, this time in 1972. Much like Robbins, Green also won. In this time though, it seemed like Boozoo may have had the intentions on killing since the crime scene was at her house itself the following year in 1973, just 3 months before the Watermans got caught. To avoid anyone connecting the dots at him in case law enforcement looks at the last lawsuit and deaths that came after it, he seemingly waited till the following year. However, her sister was house sitting at the time. Sadly, Green lost her sister.
It may have only been a certain portion that were connected to prior conflicts, but they weren't the only ones. Out of the 67 victims who died at the hands of he and the Watermans, 9 were related to others who had prior conflict with Boozoo. Anything ranging from lawsuits to arguments. It showed that Boozoo was willing to get the Watermans and take matters into his own hands if he felt insulted enough.
Looking at the other victims and pictures, some of them were security that were guarding places during big heists. Showing that not even security guards were safe from going into the photo book. Why Lorenzo and Rachel took their pictures is not fully known, but given the nature of them, it seems more than likely they wanted to take those pictures as a memory and as a treasure.
Then there's some questions, why did they did they knowingly trap the souls in the book? How did they know about what would happen if the book got burned? And most importantly, why were they restrained from moving on and trapped in a hell like state?
These questions were not easy to answer, so authorities went to ask someone who knew about this kind of stuff and the circumstances behind it. An individual who knew this stuff gave plausible thoughts to them. Lorenzo and Rachel possibly knew how to trap souls into somewhere with the help of black magic. The very thought sounded completely insane, but it seemed to be the only explanation as to how this could have even worked. Adding to this was the clearly sadistic personalities of Lorenzo and Rachel, which included Boozoo. How the souls got trapped was for the same plausable thought, black magic. How Boozoo, Lorenzo, and Rachel knew about this what would was anyones guess. Perhaps they knew the consequences, assuming that they studied it ahead of time.
With all this in mind, that is how sick in the head Boozoo was. Just like his best friends, he was sadistic, he took personal pleasure in making others suffer. He enjoyed every violent thing that the robberies, heists, and especially home invasions had to offer. Demons were present from the start of Boozoo's young adulthood, but once his son moved out and his wife divorced him, that looked to be the very thing that pushed the old man over the edge.
Going back to the Waterman couple one more time, there were some things discovered while investigating every matter possible. Rachel breaking out of prison particularly exposed a weak spot within the prison walls and it's own security. Lorenzo escaping was one thing, since it was during a prison riot. But Rachel breaking out was something her prison should have been able to prevent. The prison Rachel was in had a weak spot that could have been easily noticed, but the guards for whatever reasons didn't bother with it.
How Lorenzo and Rachel were able to get to Brighton and Nash-Lake as fast as they did was likely Boozoo driving them. After all, it only took a payphone and phone call for them to get into contact with their best friend. And clearly, they had planned this out well in advance. They only got lucky not having to do anything big to make their escapes since with that luck, they were able to do their things sooner rather than later.
How Boozoo and Detective Raglan made contact was very interesting. At the time of when Boozoo got arrested twice, Raglan was working with the Brighton PD, before switching over to the Nash-Lake PD the following year. This explained why Boozoo would have been more than fine with Rachel killing him, even if it was because Raglan nearly killed Lorenzo with his gun. It also explained their prior contact and maybe even Raglan's inexperience of Nash-Lake and the Waterman home.
One thing that the authorites could never find out was if Lorenzo and Rachel brought the idea of the killing to Boozoo, or if he brought the idea of killing to them. It was something that could never be officially confirmed by anyone. All they knew was the couple had a photo book that was made by the old man himself.
At the end of December, the authorities concluded their findings and released their final report. In regards to what they could find and learn about Boozoo, it seemed like a combination of a bad childhood, a divorce, and bad thoughts within his head caused him to snap and go on a more than 25 year long rampage of hurting those around him in more ways than one. Lorenzo and Rachel's stories were still speculated, but in Rachel's case at least, her childhood was possibly the same as Boozoo's, minus the failing marriage and having a kid part. When their legacy ended, they had a victim count of 67 between 1958 to 1980. The only victim who was able to avoid being trapped in the book was Paxton Raglan.
The events that unfolded, leading to the fundraiser money being stolen was from a number of factors. The prison riot at Lorenzo's prison, Rachel's prison not upkeeping, and overall a series of bad luck and negligence on the part of several parties. Information on those responsible for the preventable parts is not known publicly, but it's likely charges rolled in for those involved.
And speaking of things that aren't known publicly, one thing that isn't known publicly is Boozoo Jr's reaction to his father's secret sadistic life with the Watermans. It must've been heavy for him, because as soon as he came home from the tour with The Showstoppers and found out the truth of what happened while he was away, he took the rest of 1980 off from Bon's Burgers. He got a great big welcome in 1981 when he returned New Years Day, but he has actively refused to make any comments or explain his thoughts on what he had found out. Understandably, it would never be revealed or found out by anyone at any specific point.
Another thing that hasn't been revealed publicly is how Ralph's father felt about what happened to Paxton. Much like Boozoo, it was understandable that this information didn't want to be talked about or known to the public. Not even Ralph wanted to talk about this, especially since he secretly was the first one to find out about this.
The junkyard owner, 2 of his employees, and 5 of the Underworld Services personnel were arrested during the investigations, the remainder of the personnel already locked up. Only General Gilbert was able to make his escape from town. Law enforcement would find that Boozoo had more connections than what they anticipated. The junkyard owner and his employees had worked with regular customers, but also did this for those who commited crimes so they could dispose of their targets or victims vehicles; he had done it for several years. With the Underworld Services personnel though, it got interesting.
Those still alive who associated with Boozoo kept their mouths shut when interrogated, all except one person who worked with Underworld Services. The identity was kept secret, but Detective Barrington did make this statement, "Our former suspects seem to have bigger connections than we had originally anticipated. One of the caught personnel who helped Boozoo and the Watermans claimed he and his crew, except for his escaped general, are part of some criminal organization refered to as Underworld Services. We are trying to track down the organization but the phone numbers are non existant and we can't seem to find what we are looking for."
The investigation on trying to find Underworld Services would continue on for some time longer, until eventually giving this to the FBI later on in the year. However, that is for another time and possibly some years in the future.
In the meantime, people of Nash-Lake and Brighton found the paintings, drawings, etc. of Boozoo that he had sold off after his toy store shut down. They took all the pictures and with lighter fluid, burned everything there was of him. Every picture, painting, and drawing of Ebenezer was burned right up. Even the picture of the Waterman household was found and put directly into the burning fire of pictures.
Some folks cheered, some folks stayed quiet, and some folks needed to process how such an evil man could go under the radar for as long as he had. The Watermans got quite the hate for their crimes for a long time, now it was Boozoo's turn to get the hate.
To be continued in the next chapter...
