Chapter 8
The Path To Heroism
The situation was escalating.
Izuku could hardly believe that this had become his daily routine. Honestly, the past few weeks had been hellish for him.
After the tumultuous events of the previous night, which left his heart racing and mind swirling with confusion, Izuku found it challenging to shake off the lingering tension that clung to him like a heavy fog. Determined to channel his restless energy into something constructive, he headed to the equipment room, where the familiar sights and sounds of his workout routine awaited him.
Each push-up became more than just a physical exercise; it transformed into a moment of focus and clarity, allowing him to drown out the chaos of his thoughts.
As he trained, his muscles burned, and a rhythmic pattern emerged, almost like a meditation, prompting him to engage in a lively dialogue with the Vestiges that inhabited his mind. He sought their wisdom, hoping they could help him unravel the mysteries surrounding the enigmatic being that had haunted his dreams. Questions tumbled from his mind like sparks igniting a fire, and he eagerly formulated new theories, each one more intricate than the last, driven by a desperate need to uncover what this powerful presence truly desired from him.
The memory of the robotic figure lingered vividly, its eyes piercing through him with an unsettling familiarity. It had recognized him—Izuku Midoriya- not just as a hero but as someone trapped, an outsider in a timeline that felt foreign.
"Or should I say, Izuku Midoriya."
Izuku clenched his jaw, fueled by frustration, and pushed himself into another set of push-ups, determined to drown out the nagging words in his head.
The realization weighed heavily on him: he wasn't the only one caught in this tangled web of fate; others were entwined in his predicament, each facing their battles in an environment that had shifted like quicksand beneath their feet.
With determination hardening in his chest, Izuku knew he had to delve deeper, not only into his abilities but into the fate of those he cared about.
It even understood his origins.
'Ninth.'
Izuku pushed himself through another set of grueling push-ups, each movement a testament to his determination. But beneath the surface, his mind raced, desperately seeking answers to an urgent question: how could he put a stop to it all? He couldn't afford to sit idly by—if he did, it would be just like facing All For One again. The weight of that memory pressed heavily on him; he couldn't bear the thought of more lives hanging in the balance because he had hesitated.
His conscience wouldn't allow it. There had to be a way to protect others, and he was determined to find it.
"Ninth."
With a fierce resolve burning in his heart, Izuku swore that he would no longer stand by as lives were lost under his watch. The nightmarish vision of Ultron drenching the world in crimson haunted him, fueling his judgment to protect all he held dear.
"Ninth!" Yoichi called out once more.
Izuku sighed and paused his push-ups, standing tall as curiosity filled him about what the first inheritor of One For All wanted from him.
"What is it, Yoichi-san?" Izuku asked.
"I know what you're thinking about, but you can't push yourself further," Yoichi called out to the youngest inheritor.
Izuku sighed, fully aware that the first inheritor of One For All was correct. However, he understood he didn't have many options in the matter from the start. "What choice do I have, Yoichi-san? If I don't, then more innocent people are going to die if I don't do something about it." He reminded himself that people would die if he didn't act.
"I know, Ninth, but you can't push your limits again like last time. Remember that." Yoichi advised the youngest inheritor of One For All.
Izuku stood silent, words hanging on the tip of his tongue, but before he could find his voice, an unexpected voice sliced through the air, catching him off guard.
"He's right, Ninth. Listen to what he's saying." Nana suddenly shared her wisdom, catching the green-haired inheritor by surprise. "You can't risk injuring yourself further."
Izuku couldn't shake off Nana's words; they echoed in his mind like a warning bell. The last time he had let his determination blind him, he found himself teetering on the brink of disaster, nearly falling victim to All For One. It was a harsh reminder that pushing his limits without caution could lead to dire consequences.
There was no room for carelessness; he had to be more innovative and more calculated in his approach moving forward.
"I know, Nana-san, but I can't stand it if I'm just wasting time again. I don't want a repeat of stopping All For One all over again." Izuku spoke, knowing there was too much at stake.
"I understand, Ninth. But unlike the situation with my brother, you are not alone in this. You have help with you this time around." Yoichi's words hung in the air as Izuku contemplated their weight, a flicker of understanding igniting within him. It was a revelation that felt both daunting and illuminating.
"Yeah, you also have us, little dude! Nothing bad will happen unless you get help this time around." Banjo offered his words of comfort to the green-haired teen.
Izuku paused, letting the realization sink in. Deep down, he recognized the truth in those words, and it resonated within him.
"Yeah, I do, don't I?" Izuku acknowledged.
Yoichi smiled. "Good. Remember, if you need any help or guidance, the rest of the Vestiges and I will help you on your journey."
Izuku couldn't help but smile as a wave of warmth washed over him, knowing he had unwavering support by his side this time. It felt like a powerful shield, bolstering his confidence as he faced the challenges ahead. "Thank you, Yoichi-san, Nana-san, Banjo-san… Thank you for the advice."
As soon as Izuku finished expressing his gratitude, the connection abruptly ended. He quickly grabbed a towel, wiping the sweat from his face and muscles after yet another grueling workout—one that mirrored the intensity of the days before.
Yet, amidst the exhaustion, a single thought resonated in his mind: The Vestiges were right. He was far from alone in this battle.
He had comrades ready to stand by his side, and together, they would make things right.
Izuku turned back to face the mirror, his reflection revealing a burgeoning determination. A fierce resolve ignited within him, stronger than ever before. He knew that he was willing to push himself beyond his limits to complete the mission ahead. With the fire of his spirit burning bright, he was prepared to fight harder than he ever had before.
Everything plunged into chaos as the world around him spiraled into disarray. Just as Izuku seizes a rare moment of tranquility amidst the turmoil, that fleeting peace is snatched away in an instant, leaving him grappling with a sense of urgency.
He knew he couldn't allow the disorder to overwhelm him—his resolve crystallized; he was determined to reclaim control over the situation and protect those he cared about.
Later, at the Avengers Tower
It was anticipated that this would occur soon.
Today, Maria Hill summoned the team, including Izuku Midoriya, to the imposing Avengers Tower.
As they filed into the sleek, high-tech briefing room, a palpable tension filled the air. Team members exchanged glances, their expressions revealing a mixture of concern and steadfast determination.
Maria, standing at the forefront of the room, radiated authority with her no-nonsense demeanor, underscoring the gravity of the situation they were about to discuss.
The walls were adorned with displays showcasing live feeds of global disturbances, all of which seemed to pulse with a sense of urgency. Izuku's heart raced as he took in the room—each hero present had faced formidable challenges, but today, they stood united against an unprecedented threat. Maria was poised to provide a crucial update on the rogue AI that had eluded capture, its capabilities and influence growing more menacing with each passing moment.
As she began to speak, detailing the A.I.'s last known location and the chaotic aftermath it had left behind, Izuku felt the weight of responsibility settle heavily on his shoulders. The stakes had never been higher, and the call to action resonated deep within him. He knew he would have to muster all his courage and determination as they prepared to confront this technological monstrosity that threatened not just their world but the very fabric of humanity itself.
"He's all over the globe. Robotics labs, weapon facilities, jet propulsion labs, there were reports of a metal man, or men coming in and out, emptying the place." Maria explained that the situation was more serious than it needed to be.
"Fatalities?" Steve inquired, his voice tinged with hope that there had been none.
"Only when engaged. Mostly guys left in a fugue state going on about old memories, worst fears, and something too fast to see." Maria responded morbidly.
"Maximoffs," Steve called out, immediately drawing everyone's attention, especially Izuku's.
Izuku, in particular, overheard the Captain recounting his encounter with the twins in Sokovia. The vision remained etched in Izuku's mind: the bodies of his cherished friends and family lay lifeless on the frigid earth.
The chilling image of All For One haunted Izuku; his skin turned pale as he recalled the crazed villain brandishing the gauntlet in his right hand.
Izuku's thoughts sent tremors through his body, causing his right hand to quiver at the memory.
No.
No more.
This was the old him.
He needed to maintain control over the rising tide of emotions within him, but more pressing concerns occupied his mind. Izuku was not just any ordinary person; he was an Avenger, a true Hero who had sworn an oath to return home safely. This promise held profound significance, as it was anchored in the memories of his family and friends, the ones he had lost and the ones he cherished deeply.
In that moment, he felt the weight of his commitment pressing down on him—how could he call himself a hero if he disregarded those in distress? The cries for help around him served as a reminder of his duty. With each passing second, he realized that his mission extended beyond his safety; it was about protecting the vulnerable and standing against the tide of despair.
Fulfilling his responsibilities, he knew, would pave the way for him to return home, but only after ensuring that he had made a difference in the lives of others.
"Well, that makes sense; he'd go to them. They have someone in common."
"Not anymore," Maria said out of the blue.
Izuku leaned in, his senses sharpening as he focused intently on the Shield agent's words, eager to absorb every detail of the briefing. "What... What do you mean by that, Hill-san?" Izuku inquired, puzzled by the Shield agent's statement.
Maria contorted her face into a grimace. Rather than responding to the green-haired rookie's question, she passed the tablet to Steve. As Steve's gaze fell upon the screen, a look of shock spread across his face at the gruesome sight.
Izuku moved to Mister Rogers's side to view the message. Steve flipped the tablet over, unwilling to let the green-haired youth be traumatized again.
"What is it?" Izuku asked worryingly.
Steve remained silent, uncertain of what to say at that moment.
Steve swiftly concealed the tablet behind his back, eager to keep the child out of the spotlight. Maria seized the tablet from the opposite side where Steve was gripping it, aware that Izuku had been implicated from the moment the device appeared at the party.
Maria fixed the first Avenger with a stern gaze. "Steve, this isn't just about you and the others; the kid has been pulled into it as well. Ultron's primary interest lies in Izuku, especially since he's from another world. He has to witness this firsthand," Maria stated.
"Alright." Steve reluctantly agreed, giving the tablet to Izuku.
"Kid, Ultron left a message, and it's targeted toward you." Maria's expression turned steely as she fixed her gaze on Izuku, who was absorbed in the tablet before him. Her confirmation carried an unmistakable weight, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation that they could no longer ignore.
It was time for Izuku to recognize the gravity of what they were facing.
As Izuku gazed upon the tablet, his green eyes widened in horror at the sight before him. Strucker's lifeless form lay sprawled on the floor, with the word 'PEACE' scrawled in blood on the wall beside him.
The former HYDRA general lay in a pool of blood, yet it was not this sight that captured the former student's gaze. Izuku noticed a different message scrawled on the wall, also in blood.
"Infected society. Your world is next, Izuku…"
Izuku's hands shook uncontrollably, and the tablet fell from his grip, clattering to the floor. His mind whirled in a storm of disbelief as he struggled to grasp the overwhelming information he'd just uncovered. Noticing his distress, Steve and Bruce rushed to his side, their expressions tight with concern. "Izuku, are you okay?!" Steve asked, his voice laced with urgency, desperate to break through the fog of shock surrounding his friend.
Izuku remained silent, his gaze fixed on the ground. "Ye-yeah, I'm fine. Ultron... He's after me," he warned as a look of shock etched on his face.
The latest warning he received, a calling card, was a stark reminder of the time All For One attempted to detonate him in the warehouse. It clearly signaled a diminishing interest from his old adversary.
"You're next."
After that fateful encounter, the chilling words reverberated in Izuku's mind like a relentless drumbeat. First, it had been All For One, and now this A.I. was targeting him with an insatiable hunger. As he grappled with the weight of it all, Steve and Bruce exchanged knowing glances, recalling the moments when Izuku had faced the shadows alone, his resolve tested in the depths of despair.
"Don't worry, we'll ensure Ultron doesn't reach your world," Bruce pledged on his honor.
Just then, Clint's cell phone began to ring.
Every Avenger took notice of the archer in the purple costume, responding to a call at a critical moment.
"Barton, we might have something." Steve alerted the blonde-haired Archer. "Barton?"
"Gotta go." Clint finishes his call.
"Who was that?"
Clint remained silent for a brief moment before responding, "Girlfriend."
The air in the room was thick with tension as everyone cast wary glances at their friend, but silence quickly gave way to a new topic. They knew they couldn't afford to overlook the looming threat of a rogue AI hell-bent on eradicating humanity in a twisted effort to impart a lesson on peace.
With a determined stride, Steve approached the table, a familiar gleam in his eye as he unveiled the same picture he had previously shared with Izuku. The atmosphere crackled with anticipation, each team member wondering what revelations awaited them next.
"What's this?" Tony inquired, attempting to solve the puzzle.
Steve spoke. "A message. Ultron killed Strucker, and not only that, but he's also targeting Izuku. He wants to draw Izuku out."Steve sent a jolt of alarm rippling through the entire group, leaving everyone on edge.
Izuku found himself in a whirlwind of confusion as if he were trying to catch smoke with his bare hands. The very idea that someone—or something—could tap into the depths of knowledge about his world seemed utterly absurd. It was a concept so far-fetched that it left him questioning his understanding of reality, especially when they hadn't even begun to unlock the technological secrets needed to facilitate such a connection.
"How would Ultron even get to my world? Even with the information that my world exists, Ultron doesn't have the means to get there." Izuku's heart quickened, a spark of hope igniting in his chest as he leaned forward. "Could it… truly be possible?" he inquired, his voice laced with a blend of anticipation and yearning.
"With how advanced an A.I. he is, Ultron will eventually figure it out." Bruce cast a piercing gaze at Izuku, whose apprehension was unmistakably painted across his features, indicating the seriousness of the situation.
"Don't worry, kid. We'll get Ultron before that." Tony promises the green-haired teen.
"Well, how will we find Ultron without JARVIS?" Clint questioned.
"Well, we already knew that Schwarzenegger here has already killed Strucker and did a Banksy at the crime scene." Tony proceeds to check all the background data that his creation left over.
"But this is just a smokescreen. Why send a message when you've just given a speech?" Natasha clarified.
"Strucker knew something that Ultron wanted us to miss. It's his way of sending a message not just to us but other witnesses as well." Steve said, referring to the hostility Ultron had toward Izuku.
Natasha let out a soft sigh, her head shaking as she turned to confront the glowing screen before her. "Yeah, I bet he did..." Her words trailed off as her eyes took in the screen. The entire dossier on the deceased HYDRA officer had vanished from the system. "Yep, everything on Strucker has been wiped clean."
Izuku's intrigue intensifies as he delves deeper into the secrets left behind by the former HYDRA leader. The whispers of hidden knowledge beckon him, igniting a fire of curiosity that propels him on a quest for the truth.
"Don't you guys have some kind of files of papers about him or something?" Izuku asked.
"Wait a second… we do," Tony spoke up, then pulled out a collection of files they had on Strucker, including information on the people he had worked with in the past.
Steve's instincts kicked in as he realized the direction Tony was headed. A surge of optimism swept over him; they had a wealth of leads waiting to be explored in their mission.
"These were known associates. Well, Strucker did have a lot of friends." Steve said, impressed with the track record of acquaintances the former HYDRA leader had.
"We're going to have to do it the old-fashioned way," Natasha told the group, aware that they would need to start from the beginning to locate the rogue AI.
Izuku felt satisfied as he observed the team actively uncovering more clues about the situation, reinforcing their progress and collaboration.
"Alright, so where do we start?" Izuku asked.
"Well, first, we need information that we can find. The problem is, there isn't much shown on the monitors," Tony said, scrolling through the remaining photos.
"This is right here. In that photo, that guy is there. Back in the day, he operated off the African coast at the black market arms," Tony confirmed as Steve gave the armored Avenger an accusing look.
Izuku recognized the troubling path unfolding before him. By now, he was acutely aware of the playboy's tendencies. Deep down, he sensed that this was a recipe for trouble.
"Mr. Stark-san, please tell us that you haven't sold your weapons and inventions to this guy, or even worse... purchased something from him, right?" Izuku inquired, arching an eyebrow.
"Conventions are important, you know? You meet people and relax, kid. I didn't sell him anything," Tony admitted, offering reassurance to the young hero.
Izuku narrowed his eyes, firming his stance. "Are you sure?" he asked, scrutinizing the armored man intently.
"Yes, cross my heart and hope to die. Now quit giving me that suspicious look, kid. You're acting more like Steve." Tony made a jest at the expense of the green-haired adolescent. "Anyway, yes, the guy's name was Ulysses Klaue. Talking about a new project on his hands."
Steve was a bit confused by Tony's words. "Where are you going with this, Tony?" he asked.
"I'm talking about finding something new. You know, a game changer. It was all very Ahab," Tony explained.
"Wait, I think I've found something. It seems that Ulysses Klaue was dealing in a substance known as Vibranium and was attempting to acquire more," Bruce declared, his attention fixed on the computer screen.
Vibranium? That word struck Izuku like a bolt from the blue. Since arriving in this new world, it was one of the few times he had come across such a curious term, leaving him both intrigued and eager to learn more. Izuku recognized the unmistakable gleam of the metal—it was the very same material that forged Rogers-san's iconic shield.
Curiosity bubbled within him, yet he had never dared to ask what kind it was.
"What type of metal is Vibranium anyway?" Izuku inquired.
"It's the strongest metal on Earth, kid," Tony declared, placing a photograph of a salvage yard on the table. "Even more durable than what I use to create my armor. Trust me, kid, if you thought my suits were tough, this is nothing in comparison."
The room fell silent, eyes wide in disbelief, as Tony, known for his towering ego, surprised everyone with an unexpected display of humility.
"Who are you, and what have you done with Tony Stark?" Clint questioned.
"He's still here, just more focused on capturing the mad robot that wants to destroy humanity as a whole." Tony leaned in closer, scrutinizing the photo of the arms dealer, his brow furrowed in concentration. "Let's break this down," he urged, pointing at the blurry outline of a familiar location in the background. The atmosphere was thick with tension as they pieced together the clues, knowing the stakes had never been higher.
"And what of this scar? From the back of his neck?" Thor furrowed his brow, intrigued by the mysterious symbols that danced before him. He was curious about what secrets they could hold.
"It's a tattoo. I don't believe he had it before," Tony speculated, responding to the God of Thunder's inquiry while shaking his head to indicate dissent.
"No, those aren't tattoos; they're a brand," Thor clarified, indicating to his team.
Izuku's eyes sparkled with intrigue as he stared at the mysterious symbols, each pulsing with secret energy. They seemed to beckon him, igniting his curiosity to unravel their secrets.
"Brand? What kind of brand did he have?" Izuku inquired with a spark of curiosity dancing in his eyes. "It's… It's more like some kind of symbol, but I don't know what it means."
"Well, kid, from what I can tell, it's a term in an African dialect that means 'thief,' though it's far less cordial," Bruce stated, turning to the green-haired teenager who wore a look of concern.
"What dialect?" Steve inquired while Bruce persisted in searching the computer for the name.
"Wakanda...? Wa-Wa-Wakanda," Bruce tried to pronounce, eliciting giggles from his teammates in the background because of his mispronunciation. "It seems this metal originates from a country that's not well-documented."
That piqued Steve's interest. "I thought your father said he got the last of it?" Steve asked Tony.
"Yeah… that's what he told me," Tony spoke before turning his head away from the Captain.
"I guess he wasn't the only one," Steve said while looking at the records.
"Is there a way to find this Klaue person?" Izuku inquired.
Tony shook his head before answering the green-haired teen's question. "It won't be easy without JARVIS, but I think I have an idea of where to begin our search," He admitted, placing a picture of a cargo ship named Churchill on the table.
Luckily for them, this was precisely the path they needed to pursue next.
Located on the African coast.
"Don't say your man swindled you. I sent you six short-range heat seekers and received a boatload of rusted parts in return. Now, you'll correct this, or the next missile I send will arrive much faster."
A rugged, middle-aged man with a scruffy beard, exuding the air of a seasoned arms dealer, stood with his phone pressed to his ear. He paced slightly, his brow furrowed in concentration, before finally ending the call with a decisive snap. There was an intensity in his eyes as if he had just received news that could shift the course of events.
Klaue ends the call and initiates another. "Now, Minister, where were we?"
In an instant, the lights flickered, plunging the salvage yard into darkness, and a wave of panic rippled through the chaos.
Two twins walked into Klaue's office. "Ah, the enhanced. Strucker's prize pupils," Klaue remarked, lifting a dish of candies from his desk. "Want candy?" he offered politely.
As the Maximoff twins shared a knowing look, an electric tension filled the air, making Klaue pause momentarily. With a deliberate motion, he set the bowl down on his desk, the clatter echoing in the charged silence."Oh, sorry to hear about Strucker. But then, he knew what kind of world he was helping create. Human life, not a growth market."
Klaue fell into a thoughtful silence, the seconds stretching between them like an eternity, before finally breaking the stillness with his response. "You...you didn't know? Is this your first time intimidating someone? I'm afraid that I'm not that afraid."
"Everybody is afraid of something," Wanda said authoritatively, her voice rich with the profound wisdom that can only arise from years of real-life experience.
"Cuttlefish. Well, if you're going to make me see a giant cuttlefish, then I know you don't do business, and I know you're not in charge, and I only deal with the man in charge." Klaue advises as Pietro picks up a piece of candy from the desk.
The speedster's sudden burst of movement caught Klaue entirely off guard, leaving him momentarily stunned.
Just as the tension reached its peak, Ultron burst through the window in a gleaming new robotic body, his voice dripping with menace as he declared, "There is no 'man' in charge. Let's talk business. Upon this rock, I will build my church." Ultron spoke chillingly.
At the fear of his life, Klaue proceeds to give the mad A.I. a few parts of the vibranium metal.
"You know, it came at great personal cost. It's worth billions." Klaue said out loud.
Ultron chuckles while remotely putting money into Klaw's bank account. "Now, so are you. Is it all under your dummy holdings? Finance is so weird. But I always say, "Keep your friends rich and your enemies rich; wait to find out which is which." Ultron proceeds to chuckle and puts the rest of the money into the bank account.
Klaue was beginning to see a parallel here. Was this android a part of his? "Tony Stark used to say that … to me. You're one of his…"
A sudden action occurs as Ultron grabs Klaue in a fit of rage and severs his arm. The arms dealer begins to scream in agonizing pain, having lost one of his limbs.
"No! I'm not…! You think I'm one of Stark's puppets—those fakes. I mean, look at me; do I look like Iron Man? Stark is a sickness, as well as those costume-wearing "heroes." Don't compare me to Stark!" Ultron's voice thundered through the chaos as Klaue's anguished cries echoed around him. Yet, amidst the turmoil, Ultron felt a strange calm wash over him, his anger simmering as he struggled to maintain control.
"Stark is a sickness, just like the rest of these heroes." Ultron emerged from a bottomless abyss of hatred.
Speaking of the devil, the timing of one's arrival couldn't be more perfect.
A Few Minutes Earlier
It took some time, but they were finally prepared for this mission.
After tracking down Klaue, Izuku and the rest of the Avengers prepared to embark on their mission. Each member of the team took a moment to gather their gear, ensuring they were fully equipped for the challenges ahead.
Izuku donned his sleek vigilante suit and Gran Torino's yellow scarf, crafted from lightweight yet durable material to enhance his agility. He secured his Air Gloves, essential for amplifying his abilities, and carefully placed his mask over his face, knowing it would provide him with the stealth he needed in this high-stakes operation.
Clint, always meticulous, went through his arsenal. He stocked his quiver with a variety of arrows—explosive, smoke, and grappling options—while wearing his signature purple gear, which offered both flexibility and protection. Next to him, Natasha performed her checks, running her hands over her array of weapons. She ensured that her sleek pistols, batons, and various gadgets were in perfect working condition, her demeanor focused and intense.
Captain America stood with his iconic shield at the ready, its surface gleaming under the light. He knew this mission could bring unexpected dangers, and he was prepared for anything that might come their way. In his Asgardian armor and wielding Mjolnir, Thor stood ready to unleash his power and restore peace to the realm. He was acutely aware that critical decisions hung in the balance, and if they didn't act now, the consequences could be dire.
Meanwhile, Tony Stark was calibrating his latest suit. The high-tech armor hummed with energy, its advanced systems designed to aid in both offense and defense, a testament to Stark's genius and commitment to success.
In a quieter corner, Bruce sat calmly, cleaning his glasses with a soft cloth. He knew that sometimes, the most essential part of a battle was being prepared for the unexpected—especially if the other guy decided to make an appearance.
With everyone ready, they shared a final, determined glance, knowing they were about to face one of their toughest challenges yet.
Once they were prepared, they all boarded the quinjet as the ride was mainly silent, ready for anything to come.
"Alright, kid, you ready for your second mission here?"
Izuku nodded. "Yes, sir, I'm ready whenever you guys need me, Mr. Stark-san."
"Just make sure Banner doesn't leave your sight in case, kid. We don't want another Hulk incident to break out in case things go south for us." Tony clarified.
"Are you sure I can't go with you guys? It's… not that I'm not grateful, but I wanna do more than look after Banner-san." Izuku stated, knowing he could do more to help his teammates.
Tony sighed. "Look, kid, I know you want to help, and your abilities are powerful, but after last night's incident with Ultron, I realized that this isn't a training mission, and there's more to risk in this situation.
"Tony, he's coming with us. We've brought him here for a reason. We need everyone except the big guy in case of emergencies." Cap's voice rang out with a captivating authority, drawing everyone's attention and commanding respect. "We always look out for one another and have each other's backs. I trust you, Midoriya," he said sincerely.
"I won't let you down, Rogers-san," Izuku spoke with determination.
"Alright, fine, but we stick to the plan, okay, kid?" Tony inquired.
Once they arrived at the location, the entire team delved into enemy territory.
Through the lens of motion and light, they caught sight of a striking scene. A formidable android, unmistakably Ultron, stood conversing with a middle-aged man sporting a rugged beard—clearly Klaue. As Izuku watched, a flicker of recognition sparked within him; the android's imposing figure was eerily familiar, igniting a whirlwind of curiosity and tension.
What secrets were they discussing in the shadows?
Still, Izuku knew he could not dwell on its appearance as he needed to focus on his mission. In a shocking turn of events, Ultron severed the arm of the weapons dealer, causing him to scream in pain, much to Izuku's horror, as they realized they had to act.
At that moment, guided by his Danger Sense, Izuku took the initiative and indicated that they needed to intervene. Captain America nodded and trusted Iron Man and Thor to join the green-haired teen in addressing the situation.
It was time to put an end to it.
Present Time
It's time to take action.
With a thundering whoosh, Iron Man gracefully descends onto the catwalk, his metallic suit gleaming under the lights. Behind him, a powerful trio follows: Izuku, eyes blazing with determination; Steve, ready for action with a shield in hand; and Thor, his majestic presence crackling with electricity.
The air buzzes with anticipation as they gather, united and prepared for whatever challenge lies ahead. "Ahh, Junior. You're going to break your old man's heart."
Ultron gave a neutral expression to Stark. "If I have to."
"We're going to stop you and make sure you don't hurt anyone else," Izuku spoke, preparing to face the adversary.
His face. Why did his face look familiar?
"Ah, the young intruder? I'm actually pleased you're here. Your hero's guide has been a great source of inspiration for me. How do I look? Doesn't my appearance seem familiar?" Ultron inquired, flaunting his new form featuring a large, red glowing mouth, narrow red glowing eyes, and significantly broader shoulders.
Izuku's eyes began to widen after that realization.
All… Might?
No… it can't be…
"Ah, so he's someone close to you. That makes sense, given that he's the one you described in the most detail."
Izuku clenched both of his hands out of anger. He looked at his notes.
In an abrupt moment, one of the twins steps out from behind the mad creation. "This is funny, Mr. Stark. This what? Comfortable? Like old times?" Pietro mocked the armored inventor.
"This was never my life," Tony remarked as he averted his gaze from his unruly creation.
"You two don't have to do this. It's not too late to stop this." Izuku pleaded.
"Oh, please. This is coming from you, the so-called next Symbol of Peace. Pretending you could ever match up to someone like All Might. You couldn't even stop—wait, who was it? Oh yes, villains in your world." Ultron sneered, a mocking glint in his eye as he taunted the young hero, fully aware of the sting in his words.
Izuku's fury ignited as green lightning crackled around him, his quirk surging to life in response to the deranged robot's relentless taunts. The air crackled with intensity, reflecting the storm brewing within him.
"Heroes like you are impostors, inept at maintaining peace. I can't physically throw up in my mouth, but if I could, I might," Ultron scoffed, his tone dripping with mockery.
"Sh-Shut up!" Izuku snapped.
"Oh, did I touch a nerve?" Ultron continued to mock.
"Kid, don't listen to him. He's trying to push your buttons." Tony warned the kid not to fall for the trap.
Izuku understood that Stark-san was right. He recognized the importance of maintaining control over his emotions, knowing full well that he couldn't allow his anger to overwhelm him as it had during his last encounter with Shigaraki.
"You two can still walk away from this," Steve warned the twins.
The red-haired woman stepped forward. "Oh, we will," she said with a warning before she turned her attention to the bunny-masked vigilante.
Izuku caught the penetrating gaze of the red-haired woman, her eyes glinting with an unsettling awareness. It was as if she could unravel the layers of his soul, unveiling the deepest, darkest secrets he had buried. The weight of her scrutiny sent a shiver down his spine, leaving him both intrigued and unnerved.
"We've seen your struggles before." The red-haired woman clarified. "Word of advice, young man, you should leave The Avengers; they only cause destruction."
Izuku was confident that it would never happen—not in this lifetime.
"You're wrong!" Izuku retorted. "If anything, they're capable of doing the opposite, and that is preventing destruction."
The red-haired woman sighed, knowing she couldn't do anything to change his mind. "Suit yourself, kid. Don't let your naivete get you killed because of this."
"We know you suffered," Izuku stated, with Cap agreeing on his side.
"Ah, of course, the young intruder from the other world always understands those." Ultron mockingly stated. "And to think I wanted to explain my 'evil plan' to all of you." The A.I. sighed before activating a device that attracted Tony's arc reactor, who was confused before being slammed into a back wall.
At that moment, four sleek drones emerged from the shadows at Ultron's side, humming to life as they targeted Captain America and Thor. With precision, they launched an attack, creating a flurry of chaos. Meanwhile, the twins—Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch—joined the fight, unleashing their powers. Amidst the turmoil, Izuku leaped into action, determined to support his allies and turn the tide against their formidable foes.
"If you believe in peace, then let us keep it!" Thor exclaimed before whacking the robot aside. Cap fought one of them while Tony regained his balance to help combat them.
"I think you're confusing peace with quiet." Ultron retorted.
After obliterating one of the relentless robots with a well-aimed blast from his repulsor, Tony Stark surged forward, adrenaline coursing through his veins as he prepared to confront Ultron. His mind raced with calculations and strategies, his attack primed and ready to unleash. However, Ultron, ever the cunning adversary, deftly evaded the strike, moving with an agility that belied his metallic frame. The two adversaries clashed fiercely, exchanging blows that echoed like thunder.
As they soared through the air, crashing into windows and shattering walls, the chaos of the battle intensified around them.
Meanwhile, Thor and Captain America fought side by side, their partnership a testament to their unwavering camaraderie. Thunder roared as Mjolnir flew through the air, striking down foes with precision, while Cap's shield deflected incoming attacks, creating a dynamic rhythm in their movements. The two heroes coordinated their efforts seamlessly, pushing back the horde of robotic adversaries.
Amid the turmoil, Izuku's keen eyes darted through the battlefield, ever-vigilant for threats. He spotted Pietro, one of the swift-moving twins, poised to unleash a devastating attack.
With a determination fueled by his heroic aspirations, he knew he had to act quickly to protect his teammates and turn the tide of the battle.
In a flash, Izuku charged up his Fa Jin and activated Full Cowl. With perfect timing, he propelled himself forward, unleashing Blackwhip to ensnare Pietro. The speedster's eyes widened in shock as Izuku flung him aside, narrowly averting disaster and shifting the momentum in their favor. The fight rages on, but with Izuku's quick thinking, a glimmer of hope shines through.
"Pietro!" Wanda screamed, worried for her brother as she prepared to use her powers on the green-haired teen.
'Danger Sense!'
In an electrifying instant, Izuku felt himself hurtling through the air, the world spinning wildly around him. But with quick reflexes, he summoned Blackwhip, effortlessly grabbing a sturdy pipe nearby. Channeling his determination, he engaged Full Cowl at 8%, fueling his momentum. With an agile twist, he soared back toward the fray, landing safely and ready to take on whatever challenges lay ahead.
Thank Kami for Quirks.
Just as Wanda prepared to unleash her powers on Izuku, a sudden impact jolted her from behind. She turned to find Captain America's iconic shield colliding with her, a fierce reminder that she wasn't alone in this fight.
"Stay down, kid," Cap stated.
Right as Izuku began to seem relieved, Danger Sense warned on another occasion.
"Shoot them! ALL OF THEM!" Klaue commands his men while getting the chance to escape.
Shit! Now, they had more to worry about!
Izuku immediately sensed the incoming bullets and deftly dodged each one while Steve stood his ground, using his shield to absorb the fire.
"Kid, be careful!" Steve warned in concern as he continued to dodge the fire and battle the mercenary and drones on his own.
As this intense exchange continues, more drones swarm in, and Ultron appears, having temporarily taken Tony down. Izuku narrowly evaded an attack from Ultron, who was clearly amused by the chaos. "Midoriya, is it? Don't struggle… you're only making this harder for yourself," he taunted.
Underneath his mask, Izuku's anger boiled over, and he dismissed the AI's mocking words. "I won't let you succeed," he declared, activating Full Cowl and charging at him with conviction. Ultron smirked, mirroring Izuku's movement.
Their fists collided, and with his Danger Sense guiding him, Izuku narrowly avoided a swift strike from Ultron. Before the bulky robot could retaliate, Izuku delivered a powerful uppercut, sending Ultron crashing into a nearby wall.
"Not bad… Young Midoriya." Ultron further mocked.
Izuku grew furious, knowing that this robot had the nerve to mock his idol, the one who had helped him achieve his dreams.
"Ninth, be careful. He's just toying with you. Don't believe his words." Yoichi warned the young successor of One For All.
"I know, but I'm not going to let him hurt anyone," Izuku declared, confident in his readiness to confront the deranged robot.
Unknowingly, during Izuku's battle with Ultron, the twins, along with Klaue and his men, disappeared, but not without leaving something "special" for the Avengers.
As the clash of steel echoed across the battlefield, a new wave of foes surged forward, ready to challenge the rest of the team.
He couldn't afford to give in; adrenaline surged through him as he hurled his shield across the rooftop, shattering more drones in a spectacular display of defiance. Each impact resonated like a battle cry, fueling his resolve to keep pushing forward against the relentless onslaught.
As Steve engaged in a fierce battle against the relentless swarm of drones, a peculiar sensation enveloped him as if an unseen force was casting a spell over him. The chaos of the battlefield faded into a blur, and his vision shifted to a deep crimson hue, igniting an unsettling urgency within him.
Each movement felt like wading through thick molasses; his limbs began to lose their strength, rendering him heavy and sluggish. With every blink, his eyelids grew heavier as though weighted down by an invisible pressure.
Amid the cacophony of whirring propellers and shouts from his comrades, Steve struggled to focus, grappling with the encroaching fog that threatened to pull him under.
In an instant, he found himself no longer in the Salvage Yard. Still, he was transported to a room that resonated with the echoes of his original culture—a lively dance hall filled with vibrant colors and pulsating music. The air was thick with the scent of the familiar, a mix of nostalgia and longing.
His heart raced as he took in the swaying figures on the dance floor, lost in the rhythm of the night.
'Is this?' Steve questioned himself in his thoughts.
What struck him most profoundly was the sound of a voice he had believed was lost to the sands of time, a voice that sent a shockwave through his very being.
It was a voice he had thought he would never hear again, awakening memories he had buried deep within himself.
"Are you ready for our dance?"
"Cap!" Thor shouted in concern.
With a mighty roar, the God of Thunder sent four drones spiraling away, clearing his path as he rushed to the side of the unconscious Captain.
"Cap, wake up!" Thor attempted to shake Steve from his sudden slumber.
"Thor, what's the status?" Natasha asked on the other side of the comms.
"I-I don't know. The Captain has fallen unconscious. I may require assistance to escort him from this location." Thor's voice resonated through the air as the same mysterious force enveloped him, its energy pulsating around him like a living thing.
As it took effect, a veil of haziness descended over his vision, blurring the edges of reality.
Suddenly, vibrant colors swirled before him, and he found himself caught in a whirlwind of illusions.
With a blink, the disorienting sights faded away, and he stood, once again, in the grand halls of Asgard. The familiar golden spires reached up toward the sky, bathed in the soft glow of twilight, and the echoes of laughter and warmth wrapped around him, making him question if he had ever indeed left.
"Heimdall?"
"Thor, answer me!" Natasha continues to speak on the other side of the comms.
At this moment, matters were becoming serious.
As urgency crackled in the air, Natasha felt the weight of time pressing down on her. Without a moment's hesitation, she started her swift journey to her teammate's location, determination fueling her every step.
"Nat, what's going on?" Clint asked.
"No one's answering; I might have to see what's going on. Clint, meet me where Cap and Thor were last seen." Natasha ordered quickly, knowing she couldn't afford to waste time.
As Natasha swung her baton to knock a drone out of the air, her heart raced. She reached for her comms, desperate to contact her teammates for help. Suddenly, a wave of dizziness washed over her, turning her vision a startling crimson.
In an instant, she was transported back to a place she thought she'd left behind—a haunting reminder of her painful childhood.
The ambiance that once filled the air had faded into silence, each shadow a testament to her past struggles, forcing her to confront the memories she'd long tried to escape.
"You will never fail."
Shit, this was getting hectic.
He sprinted down the chaotic trails of drones and mercenaries, barreling through obstacles as he pushed himself harder with every step. Time was slipping away, but he couldn't afford to dwell on it.
All that mattered was the mission ahead, and there was no room for hesitation.
With a mix of urgency and intuition, Clint swiftly located the God of Thunder lying unconscious, his formidable form sprawled on the ground. Beside him, Captain America appeared entranced, lost in a spellbinding daze. The scene was charged with tension, and Clint knew he had to act fast to shake them from their stupor.
"Damn, what happened here?" Clint paused, his mind racing as he tried to regain control of the unfolding chaos.
Just as Clint was about to process his next move, a shadow shifted behind him, launching into action. It was a familiar figure aiming to deliver the same fate to him as his comrades had faced. But Clint was quicker. In a split second, he nocked an electric arrow and released it with precision. The arrow struck the would-be attacker squarely on the forehead, sending them crashing to the ground, incapacitated.
It was her—the little witch from before—and this time, he wouldn't let her catch him off guard.
"Yeah… I've done the whole mind-control thing. Not a fan." Clint's voice dripped with sarcasm, a smirk on his face as he believed the chaos was finally coming to an end. But just as hope flickered in his mind, the very same speedster from earlier struck again.
In a flash, he knocked Clint to the ground and swooped up his sister, vanishing into the distance before he could process what had just happened.
The air was thick with disbelief as Clint lay there, a storm of panic swirling inside him, but it was the simmering irritation that genuinely set his heart racing.
"Yeah, you better run."
Shit… he was getting too old for this absurdity.
"Hey, are you okay?" Pietro asked in concern.
Wanda let out a pained groan that seemed to echo her struggle. After a brief pause to collect herself, she turned to her brother, perseverance flickering in her eyes as she prepared to speak.
"Ah, it hurts," Wanda spoke, not forgetting the pain that was inflicted on her.
Pietro grows angry at this. How dare those bastards hurt his only family?
"I'm gonna kill him. I'll be right back." Pietro ensured his sister.
Before Pietro could leave to settle the score, his sister stopped him at the last second. "No, I'm over it. I want… I want to finish the plan." Wanda stated, her eyes began to trail at a particular figure in the field.
"I want the big one."
The situation was spiraling further into chaos with every passing second.
Izuku fought vigorously against Ultron, his movements a blur as he dodged incoming attacks with a mix of agility and determination. In a moment of quick thinking, the green-haired teenager utilized his Quirk, Blackwhip, to ensnare the mechanical menace, hoping to restrict his movement.
With a surge of adrenaline, the green-haired vigilante activated Full Cowl, channeling 30% of One For All as he spun Ultron around, seeking to gain the upper hand.
Just as he was about to unleash his next powerful strike, Ultron, with his advanced reflexes, broke free from the black tendrils that held him captive. In an instant, he grasped each of the tendrils with his formidable right hand, using them as leverage to launch Izuku away. The young hero was thrown forcefully through a wall, the impact resonating with a bone-jarring force that left him momentarily dazed.
As he crashed into an open field, Izuku groaned in mild pain, feeling the remnants of the collision reverberate through his body.
'Damn it!' Izuku contemplated with anger as he gradually rose to his feet.
Struggling to regain his footing, he pushed through the discomfort, knowing that he couldn't afford to let Ultron roam free. The stakes were too high; he needed to stop the relentless A.I. at all costs, for failure was not an option in this battle of wills.
Just as Ultron was about to land another blow on the green-haired teenager, a brilliant blast surged from Tony's suit, sending the menacing A.I. crashing backward. With a thunderous roar, the Armored Avenger rejoined the fray, determined to turn the tide of battle once and for all.
"Easy there, junior. Not cool to pick on kids like that." Tony mocked, aiming both of his repulsor gloves toward the mad robot.
"Ah, Stark… Should have known that a worm like you would not be easy to be rid of."
"It's over! You're not going anywhere, Ultron!" Izuku exclaimed.
"Of course not. You'll catch on. But first, you need to catch Dr. Banner." Ultron teased, a wicked smirk spreading across his face that hinted at his sinister intentions.
Just as Izuku and Tony were about to exchange words, a familiar jolt of energy surged through the green-haired teenager, setting his senses on high alert.
'Danger Sense!'
Izuku felt a tense knot in his stomach—the unmistakable sign that something was amiss. Time was of the essence, and he knew he couldn't waste a moment. He and Mr. Stark had to track down Dr. Banner before it was too late.
The stakes were high, and the clock was ticking.
"Make a choice, hero. You could stop me from finding the Vibranium or stop your friend Doctor Banner from having a grand time in the city."
Right as Ultron began to fly away, Tony cursed, knowing this was going to be a more significant situation than he had initially thought.
"Kid, we need to find Doctor Banner. Quick!"
Izuku nodded firmly, acutely aware of the urgency of their mission. He activated Float, feeling the familiar thrill of levitation surging through him. He took off after Tony, determination coursing in his veins as they raced toward the rumored whereabouts of Doctor Banner. With every tick of the clock, urgency surged within him; he was resolute in his mission to seize this chance before it vanished.
"News or footage, keyword: Hulk." With a swift click, Tony brought the news footage to life, revealing jaw-dropping scenes of the Hulk rampaging through the city, leaving chaos in his wake.
Shit, Banner has unleashed the beast.
"Natasha, I could use a lullaby," Tony said, hoping he had some backup available.
As Tony braced himself for Natasha's familiar voice on the other end, he was caught off guard when Clint picked up instead. He quickly informed the Armored Avenger about the delay, his tone a mix of amusement and mild exasperation.
"Well, that's not gonna happen. Not for a while. The whole team is down. You got no backup here… except the kid. But I don't think he's ready for a situation like this." Clint advised with caution.
Izuku's brow furrowed at Clint's words, a sense of urgency welling up within him. He couldn't shake off the feeling that he had come this way for a reason – to stand idle was not an option. His heart raced as he felt the weight of his teammates' lives hanging in the balance, and the stakes couldn't be higher. Clenching his fists tightly, Izuku understood that this was the defining moment he had been waiting for.
If he didn't act now, innocent lives would be lost, and he couldn't let that happen.
Determined, he prepared to charge forward, ready to risk everything for those who needed him most.
"Barton-san, I can help! Please, Mr. Stark-san needs help at this moment." Izuku spoke, fully aware that he could assist at this crucial moment.
Tony had the same thought. "I actually agree with Clint here, kid. I think this might be too much for you. This is one of the few times when the Hulk's gone rampant, and it's not even his fault due to that witch."
Izuku felt a surge of determination swell within him. He couldn't stand by; he had to take action, no matter the sacrifice it might require. After all, what kind of hero turns away when others are in need? At this moment, every second spent in indecision felt like a betrayal to all he stood for.
Izuku firmly shook his head, resolute in his decision. He would never abandon his teammates—not after all they had sacrificed for him. This was his chance to repay their unwavering support, and he was determined to rise to the occasion. "Mr. Stark-san, I know I'm capable of handling this… Please, give me a chance," he pleaded, hoping Mr. Stark-san would listen with reason.
Tony sighed, knowing he was going to regret this later. "Alright… but no improvising. Listen to my orders; can't risk losing more casualties here."
Izuku nodded. "I won't let you down," he promised.
Tony understood completely. "Alright, I'm calling in VERONICA. Kid, meet me in the city, and be careful when you see Doctor Banner. Do not engage; instead, try to keep him away from the city, as it could result in casualties within the urban area."
The inheritor of One For All soared through the air just as Tony Stark began summoning his other weapons to confront the crisis. They had no time to lose.
As Izuku touched down in the city, he took in the chaos surrounding him—ruin was everywhere, with overturned cars and shattered buildings laying waste to the area. Panic filled the air as civilians fled in all directions, desperate to escape the unfolding disaster.
'Banner-san… what have you done?' he thought, a grim understanding settling in. Lost in his thoughts, Izuku was suddenly jolted back to reality by his Danger Sense, which alerted him to a massive creature leaping through the city.
He shifted his gaze, his heart racing as he took in the sight before him. Dr. Banner had undergone a chilling transformation into the Hulk, towering and muscular, with skin glistening a vivid shade of green under the dim light. His eyes burned with an intense fury, an unmistakable sign that the rational man once in control had been utterly overwhelmed. The air around them crackled with tension, and it was clear that whatever motivation had driven Banner to this point had unleashed a force of primal wrath that was now beyond restraint.
A confrontation was imminent, and Izuku could sense the weight of the moment pressing down on him. He understood that this battle would be straightforward—nothing worthy ever was.
With determination coursing through his veins, he initiated Full Cowl at a heightened level, each surge of power amplifying his focus. This was his chance to truly test his limits and discover what he was capable of in the face of overwhelming odds.
He was ready to step into the fray, prepared to lay everything on the line.
'It's my turn to return the favor for you, Banner-san.' Izuku affirmed as he charged up Full Cowl to its highest potential, preparing to save his friend from himself.
The crescendo of tension in the air signaled that the clash of titans was about to unfold.
AN: Hello, Everyone! Chapter Nine of "A Hero Among Avengers" has finally arrived!
Special thanks go to Meraj Alimi (King 101) for helping beta-read this chapter and Jeremy Steinmark for helping write the first half of the chapter! Couldn't have done this without their help!
So yes, this story has finally been revived after nearly two years! I know it has confused readers of the update but this is the real thing here. It has also been improved in the process, as the first eight chapters now feature better grammar and pacing due to multiple revisions!
I haven't updated this story in a long time because, in addition to the hectic pace of school and studying, I've also lost a lot of interest in writing it.
However, this is mainly due to the recent decline in interest is primarily due to my diminishing enthusiasm for the recent Marvel films. MHA still had my interest despite the mixed reception of the ending. I stayed engaged in the anime/manga because I wanted to see how the story concluded or if there would be a future sequel. (Hopefully, Hori will decide to create one someday, but that might be wishful thinking or the usual copium talking.) At least Vigilantes is getting an anime adaptation, so that's gonna be fire!
But mainly, the MCU almost made me lose interest in continuing to write this story. A lot of their projects are either okay, mid, or just plain terrible. (Looking at you, Love and Thunder.)
Thankfully, we did get a few bangers over the years, such as No Way Home, which I just rewatched, fueling my hype for Spider-Man 4, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and of course, recently from last year, Deadpool and Wolverine, which was a love letter to the previous MCU movies prior to Endgame. Plus, Hugh killed it as Wolverine again!
Hopefully, the upcoming Fantastic Four movie will reignite my hype for the next phase of films. I'm not going to lie; I'm kind of burnt out on a lot of their content, but I do think the FF4 will be a promising entry in the next phase.
Either way, I will continue to write this story despite the mixed reception of the MCU.
Izuku vs Hulk will happen in the next chapter, so stay tuned for that! Definitely can't wait to get to the original arcs I have planned for this fic, especially since a certain wall-crawler superhero might appear soon. Hope you look forward to it!
Please leave a favorite, follow, and review for this story! Also, check out my other fics! One of the stories is an MHA/DC crossover titled "Lost Justice." It features a post-Final War Izuku who has his Quirk, One For All, isekai'd into the DC Universe. He wakes up in Gotham and resumes his role as a vigilante!
Be warned: This story is more mature than this fic. However, I highly recommend reading the first two chapters while chapter 3 is currently being written, as well as the other fics I'm currently writing!
Please PM me if you ever feel like chatting or want to catch up on future updates for future chapters I have planned soon!

These are great for fanfiction servers if you want to read more stories! Can recommend these to anyone who's just looking for a place to chill or read something entertaining once in a while!
Either way, hope you enjoy this chapter and look forward to the next one!
Stay safe, stay awesome, and have a great Spring Break in the process! Adios!
