Chapter 16
Desperate to save Jennifer, despite Professor Bennett's warnings, the four students hurried out of the school and through the grounds with no hesitation, making straight for the Forbidden Forest.
"Where do you think he'll be holding Jennifer?" Jamie asked worriedly.
Jeff nervously pulled out his inherited wand, not feeling good about going into battle without a fully bonded wand.
"Not sure." He admitted.
"It wouldn't be too deep in, he has to ensure his plan to get what he wants from Professor Dumbledore works." Amara said grimly as she and Carla drew their wands.
With a wary look at each other they made their way into the Forbidden Forest, Amara and Carla shivering as a gust of wind ruffled their skirts and pebbled the bare flesh of their thighs, but they plunged on regardless. They soon reached a clearing and, with a sense of foreboding, exited the trees and into it.
Instantly they tensed as they beheld the sight before them, at the other end of the clearing, hanging from a low branch were the four necklaces and on the ground below them, the still bound and gagged Jennifer. She stared at them in shock, eyes wide. Meanwhile standing before them, wand drawn and sneering, was Thaddeus.
"So, you little brats escaped." He spat. "Let me guess, come to try and save your little friend now and be heroes and here I thought only one of you was a brash Gryffindor."
Amara bristled at his comment but it was Jamie who spoke up, voice shaking with surprising anger.
"Let Jennifer go."
"I think not, she's my bargaining chip and she needs to be punished for her treachery." Thaddeus replied with a scoff.
"She did nothing to you!" Amara protested. "And you stole those necklaces from our friends!"
Carla nodded. "Exactly, they don't belong to YOU."
"EVERYTHING RELATING TO THAT ULTIMATE POWER BELONGS TO US!" Thaddeus thundered suddenly. "You don't even know what they are, pathetic."
"You're the pathetic one, having to kidnap a child." Jeff growled.
"You're all children, you fool." Thaddeus shot back before turning his wand towards Jennifer. "Cruc-!"
But the others were not about to let that happen.
As one they aimed their wands at him and all cast the same spell.
"Flipendo!"
Not expecting it, Thaddeus took the brunt of all four spells and was blasted off his feet. They darted forwards only to have to dodge as he was quickly back on his feet and firing stunners at them. The smirk was gone from his face, replaced by a look of loathing.
"You brats are going to regret coming here, I see I'll have to deal with you as I should have earlier." He growled. "And if that's the best you can do, then I will deal with this quickly."
The group all tensed, knowing they were indeed outmatched, they were all second years and only knew up to second year spells, it was all they had but their element of surprise was gone and they couldn't attack in sync anymore as Thaddeus was ready to attack and scatter them.
But they had no choice, they couldn't leave Jennifer to this man and besides, they actually did have a plan. So it was the girls decided to make the next move, using the first spell that cane to mind.
"Rictusempra."
Thaddeus effortlessly blocked these attacks and scoffed.
"Tickling Charms?" His old sneer returned. "I expected better than that, what next, stinging hexes, more knockback jinxes, maybe-?"
He was cut off as he stumbled from Jeff indeed hitting him with a Flipendo. But on his own, with an inherited wand, that was all it could do.
Something Thaddeus noticed. "What a shame boy, maybe you should have had your own wand. Bombarda!"
They all gasped and had to dodge as the spell exploded off the tree behind where Jeff had been mere moments before. They tried to combine their spells again but were blocked once more. Then Jamie tried something different.
"Expelliarmus!"
"The disarming spell!?" Thaddeus growled as he narrowly dodged it. "At least one of you can actually fight it seems, but that just-"
He never finished his statement as he took aim at Jamie. He had to dodge again as the other three showed they too could disarm him. Now he was wondering if he had underestimated these second years.
He could not let this happen, he still had an exchange to make, the Howells girl for the box, after he'd suitable punished her however.
"This has gone far enough." He snapped. "Time to teach you brats a lesson."
"Yeah, just try us." Amara snapped back. "You don't have a clue what's really going on."
Thaddeus laughed. "Stupid little Girl, typical Gryffindor. It's obvious you think you can match me, just because there are more of you. Big mistake."
That confirmed to the group's relief that he had in fact not worked out their actual plan.
"You're the one who made a mistake when you took those necklaces from our friends and kidnapped Jennifer." Jamie countered. "Expelliarmus!"
Blocking the attack with a shield charm Thaddeus sneered.
"Those idiots don't deserve them when they don't even understand how important they are and shut about the girl already. She's not any of your concern. She's a means to an end, a tool, that's all." He said coldly before taking aim with his wand. "Confringo!"
They dodged the blasting curse but heard Jeff cry out, not in pain but shock and looked to see Jeff's horrified expression as he now held aloft the splintered remains of his wand.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
