After that faithful monday, all Marie could think about was Edd. This costed her plenty of sleep, she tried to drown it out with music. Songs about love, especially about having a crush on someone would get immediately skipped, sometimes she thinks she's too lazy to skip them, but she knew she wanted to hear it.
As a kid, she would bottle all complicated thoughts and unchecked emotions up inside, then she changed it to bullying as we all knew. But ever since getting more into music, she has been able to release and feel out her emotions in a healthier way, becoming a more emotionally regulated person.
Lunch, Tuesday.
May was blabbering on about something. Probably Ed, no, obviously Ed.
"..to decide. At home! Silly me.." said May, looking down at her phone, which is lying on the school cafeteria table.
Across from her was.
"Marie? Why are you staring at my boobs?" asked May.
"Hu- huh?" Marie said as she stopped zoning out, lowered the volume of her wired earbuds, and looked at May.
"What were you even thinking about?" said May.
"Nothing, May, I was just listening to music." said Marie.
"Ugh- I said whatever we're going to do, I'm not going to do it, I'm not ready!" said May.
"Okay. I just thought we should buy candy from them. They ask blabla, like, "Hey, why didn't you go outside and buy them?" we'll say, like, "We're too lazy... blabla" "May- or I was craving something they only had-" Oh, I don't like the sound of that." Marie spoke.
"I'm not doing it," said May, with an irritated face, as if Marie had not listened.
"What was that?" asked Marie.
May reached her hand over and pulled the wires of Marie's earbuds down.
"Hey!" exclaimed Marie.
"What is it with you? I'm not ready to see, let alone talk to Ed." said May.
"I don't give a fuck! Don't pull my earbuds down like that! I hate it when anyone does that! And you know that!" said Marie, she was getting louder with each spoken sentence.
"You weren't listening!" shouted back May.
"Stop shouting, jeez." said Marie.
"You. Shouted. FIRST!" shouted May, louder.
"Okay, okay, jeez, I'm sorry." said Marie.
The two then notice the people on the tables next to them staring at them. Marie and May returned the gesture for a bit. They kept staring, for some reason.
"What the fuck are you looking at?" said Marie, looking daggers at them.
Then they resumed what they were doing.
"Ugh, let's just-" said May, before being cut off by Marie.
"There's-" said Marie, noticing the 3 Eds walking together past the entrance to the cafeteria. Hold on why is she struggling to say it?
"What?" exclaimed May.
"Ed- and-" Marie spoke, oh, she felt something in her heart when she saw Edd, alright. Intoxicating. Her heart's beating out of her chest. She felt like removing the t-shirt layered over her long-sleeved shirt because it felt like she was on the surface of the sun.
"Ahem, the Eds." said Marie, looking away from them. She felt like she was staring too much. Then she turned back because she realized it would've looked weird if May saw her just staring at some random spot on the wall.
"Oh-" exclaimed May as she turned back to look, for a split second, and turned back to the table, picking up her phone, staring at it like she was doing something.
They walked past the cafeteria, didn't seem to notice her and her sister- oh. Edd's eye moved over a bit? Marie wasn't sure.
"Was that Marie?" Edd thought to himself.
He then stopped in his tracks, stepped backwards a bit, and saw her.
"He's l- He's looking at me?!" Marie thought to herself, shocked.
Edd waved at Marie as he showed a little smile.
Marie hesitantly and clumsily moved her hands up and tried to wave, showing a nervous smile.
"Ohh! What are you doing. What did you do." Marie thought to herself. She felt like she didn't move like a human when she did that.
Edd then walked back to catch up to his friends, out of her eyesight.
Marie then instinctively slumped down on the table, covering her ears and face.
May's eyes kept darting up to Marie and down to her phone during this whole ordeal.
"What's her problem?" she thought. She didn't wanna say anything yet, she was also stiffened up.
A few seconds pass by, Marie looked up to find May staring at her with a confused look on her face.
"Wh-" May spoke out before being immediately cut off by Marie.
"Nothing." said Marie.
May, taken aback
"Definitely something." said May.
Lovesick fools. Becoming more in touch with their younger self.
"Oh. Ohhhhh!" exclaimed May.
"Oh hohohohoho." exclaimed May more as she then laughed.
Marie sheepishly looked at her sister. Pursing her lips together.
"Wow." May exclaimed. Then she kept laughing.
She just won't stop. Marie won't say anything.
Okay that's enough.
"Jeez get it all out of your system yet?" said Marie.
"N- heh- No." said May, then she continued laughing in a softer tone.
Marie stared at May for a while.
"Nice try." said May.
"H- Huh?" exclaimed Marie.
"You tried to get their attention, and when they come over, you lie down like you're sleeping and let me do all the talking work. Hahaha. Too bad they nev-" said May, before being cut off by Marie.
"Oh, you're soooo fucking dumb." said Marie.
"If I was dumb, I wouldn't have figured th-" said May, before being cut off by Marie, again.
"That's not even what happened!" shouted Marie.
"Oh yeah? Then what?" said May.
Marie feels like she can't keep her secret anything longer, and the words were just begging to leave her mouth, especially after being almost brought to the brink of acknowledgement from May like that.
Marie stood up, moved her face close to May not to be too loud about what she was going to say
"I fucking like him." said Marie.
May was in shock for a bit, silenced, wow. She did not expect this.
"You like Big Ed too?" asked May.
"NO! Oh. My god." said Marie, infuriated.
She then stood up again and went up to May's face for a second time.
"Edd. Double D." said Marie, then she sat back down. Then she instinctively slumped down and covered her head again.
May was, in a debatably bigger shock, jaw dropped. In her head, who wouldn't like Big Ed?
"Wow." exclaimed May.
They sit in silence for a bit, May staring at her hiding sister.
No words.
May then took a picture of Marie's slumped body with her phone. iPhone 4s, to be exact. She saved up her money to buy this, and that was 2 years ago.
As Edd walked away, with Marie out of sight, he thought to himself.
He thought she seemed a little nervous, it must've been because he walked back to wave at her. He wondered if he looked weird doing that. Trying to find the reason why she was acting that way, he pushed it to the back of his head. He thought, "not everything is about me".
In the afternoon, those two share a class.
Not much interaction, other than a simple nod greeting at the start, which Marie gave, then looked away immediately. Edd was entirely focused on learning, and Marie was trying to act normal and just focus on the lesson, which she did well. Until at the end of the class.
Marie exited the room, and Edd was behind her.
"Later, Marie." said Edd, as he walked out the door, looking at Marie.
"Oh- L- see- see you later. Haha-" said Marie, shocked and nervous. She unconsciously haha'd at the end. She tried to hide her face from Edd, staring in the opposite direction.
"Anything wrong, Marie?" asked Edd.
"Uhm- Nothing. Bye." said Marie in rapid succession, and she started speedwalking away.
"Huh." Edd thought to himself.
As Marie walked away,
"Oh my god what the fuck am I doing." she thought to herself, walking to her next class
Edd then walked to his next class.
The rest of the day was nothing unusual. Edd kept thinking more and more about Marie, something was bothering her.
After school was all done, he drove himself, Ed, and Eddy back home. Sarah was busy, so she's going home with Jimmy's parents today.
They hung out in Ed's basement room.
"Eddy, stop looking at my screen. You're a cheater." said Ed, holding a joystick, playing on his PS3 with Eddy, staring intently at the game.
"I'm not, lumpy! Even if I was, I'm still losing! You killed me like what? thirty times? I only killed you ten!" said Eddy, holding a joystick, sitting next to Ed on the couch, staring at the TV.
Sounds of button-mashing fills the room.
Edd was sitting on a beanbag next to the couch that is occupied by Ed and Eddy, he was looking at his own phone, scrolling through something.
Then he remembered Marie. Maybe something's wrong with her, he could help. Then he opened his chat with Marie.
".. on second thought, if she was nervous around me, then she probably would be uncomfortable talking about it. Not my busines-" Edd thought to himself, his thoughts stopped as he noticed Marie was typing.
"Huh." he thought.
"uhm hey edd" from Marie, 18:32
"Huh? Why did he read instantly?" Marie thought to herself, surprised.
"why were u in our chat" from Marie, 18:32
"Apologies, I was here to inform you that if there's anything wrong or if you require some assistance, then you can speak to me, if you wish. I noticed you were not yourself today. Sorry for bothering." typed Edd, 18:33
"oh yea i was here to talk to you about that" from Marie, 18:33

"Edd, come play instead. I'm tired of this game." said Eddy, calling Edd from the couch.
"Hold on. I'm talking to Marie." responded Edd.
Eddy raised an eyebrow.
"Okay then. You should get some good sleep today, Marie. Sleep is important." typed Edd, 18:33
"yeah sure" from Marie, 18:33
"Is there anything else I could help with?" typed Edd, 18:33
"i guess not" from Marie, 18:33
"Okay. Farewell, Marie. See you at school, tomorrow, hopefully well-rested!" typed Edd, 18:34
"Heh. So dorky." Marie thought to herself.

Edd then moved on from the messages, not thinking much about the exchange, and he then took the controller as Eddy handed it over.
Lunch, Wednesday.
Edd says goodbye to Ed and Eddy as he walks away to go to his next class.
He walked through the halls in the sea of people moving through to their next class, and he then saw the dash of blue he's familiar with. Oh, it's coming towards him.
Marie walked over to Edd, she wanted to interact with Edd, so she told herself to just relax and be herself, act normal, it's fine.
"Heyyy! Edd." Marie greeted as she looked at Edd.
"Hello, Marie." said Edd, as he looked at Marie.
Eddy hears the faint noise of.. Marie? And Edd? Talking to each other? Then he turns back to see, yep, just as he thought. Man, these two are talking so much all of a sudden. Then he continued walking away.
"Uhm, we have next class together, right?" asked Marie.
"Indeed we do." Edd replied.
"Let's walk together then." said Marie as she turned towards the way to their next class and began to walk.
Silence ensues.
"We have been interacting more often." Edd said out loud, walking with Marie, looking at the ground.
"Huh. I guess. That a good thing or a bad thing to you?" asked Marie, looking at Edd.
"I've enjoyed your company." answered Edd as he looked back at Marie.
"Oh yeah? Because I'm interesting?" said Marie, smiling, as she then chuckled a bit.
"Undoubtedly." said Edd.
"Really?" said Marie. She thought "Wow, I guess I didn't have any reason to be nervous around him."
"Yes." said Edd, confirming, looking up from the ground.
"What's so interesting about me?" asked Marie, she then turned away to look where she was going.
"I believe it's how we used to have an.. unfavorable history together. And I've come to appreciate how you've grown into a more pleasant person, which I find engaging in conversations with to be delightful." said Edd, in a genuine tone.
Marie thought about his response for a moment, looking at the tiles she was walking on.
"Wow. That was heartfelt. Maybe he has a bigger crush on me, hah! Only in dreams, you're delusional, Marie Kanker." she thought.
"Heh. Don't ease into me so easily. I'm still the same Marie. I still bite." said Marie, looking up from the ground.
"Sure, y-" said Edd, then he thought.
"You can bite me if you want." Edd thought to himself, this was what he was about to say.
"That's inappropriate." Edd decided in time not to say that out loud.
"I'm what?" questioned Marie, looking at Edd.
"Y- You're less aggressive, Marie." said Edd, as he looked at Marie.
"Heh." Marie exclaimed as she looked back to where she was walking.
Edd looked back at his feet.
They continued to walk together, they didn't notice that they were slowing down together by the second.
"I guess.. you've become less.. condescending." said Marie.
"I know, you don't have to tell me." said Edd in a sarcastic tone, as he laughed at the end, looking up from the ground.
Marie giggled.
"Dork. Nerd." said Marie. Smiling, looking at Edd.
Edd laughed and smiled at Marie. The gap in his tooth melted her heart away. Though she keeps her cool this time.
Then she turned back and continued walking with Edd.
"How tall are you now? I think you were like an inch taller than me back then." asked Marie, making small talk.
"Five feet, ten inches. What about you?" said Edd, looking at Marie.
"I'm like 8 inches shorter than you. I'm around five two." said Marie. She then puts her hand on her head and does the height measuring gesture, straightening her back
"Oh. The peak of your height is my chin." exclaimed Edd.
"Yeah, haha." said Marie, looking at Edd, laughing a bit at the end
"How tall are your sisters?" asked Edd.
"Lee, I don't know the exact number but she's like, around this, I guess." said Marie as she puts her hand over to the level of Edd's eyes to show Edd how tall Lee is.
"Is her hair included?" asked Edd.
"She's like teeny tiny bit taller than you when her hair's done, I guess." said Marie.
"Yeah? What about May?" asked Edd.
"She's an inch taller than me. And I'm her older sister! Shameful to be shorter than your younger sibling." said Marie.
"It's quite fine, Marie, being short is not a bad thing. Shorter people tend to experience fewer injuries. And statistically, the shorter an individual is, the longer they live." said Edd.
"Hey! I'm not even that short to be getting that lecture from you. I'm just an inch shorter than average!" said Marie, looking at Edd, raising her eyebrow and pursing her lips.
"Apologies. I let my eager-to-teach side get the best of me." said Edd, looking down at the ground.
"No. It's fine. Actually- To be honest I actually like being this height. I look cute." said Marie, as she relaxes and looks back to where she's going.
"Heh." exclaimed Edd. He thought, he agreed, of course, should he say it out loud though? Would she be comfortable?
Marie thought to herself, it's a very risky move, but to hell with it.
"Right? I'm cute right?" said Marie, as she stared at Edd, waiting for his response.
"Oh- Uh- Of course." said Edd, looking at Marie for a split second, then back down on the ground.
Marie then smiled and instinctively looked down at the floor, and she seemed all fine and dandy on the outside, but on the inside, she was liquifying, her legs might've almost given up on her.
She tried to think of something else to say to get rid of the dead air that followed a very awkward exchange of words.
Suddenly, the bell echoes throughout the halls of Peach Creek High School.
"Oh, seems like we have to hurry." said Edd as he sped up and gestured for Marie to follow him.
"Yup." said Marie as she tries to keep up with Edd.
