Chapter 48

Love is an Odd Thing

AN: Chapter 50 is being quite a pain in my neck but in the meantime here is chapter 48 and 49. Time to sprinkle in some shipping.

Disclaimer: I don't own yo-kai watch otherwise I would make my alternate fusion idea canon and have more yo-kai evolve in interesting ways.

Who would have ever thought Katie's day could have possibly gone like this. It was utter chaos and insanity. Fighting boys were one thing that were already confusing and dumb to Katie but fighting over a girl was a whole other league of stupid and confusing, now fighting for her… Well she could not even imagine that in any world.

Things as usual started as a normal day except they did not Katie was supposed to be alone in her house today. Her parents were out and aside from her yo-kai friends she was unaccompanied and that was fine. Komajiro, Komasan, and Frostina were watching TV during the night Komajiro and Komasan helped Frostina train by subjecting her to harsh elemental attacks but luckily the two were gentle enough not to be too aggressive for the icy yo-kai. They all deserved some down time and Katie didn't want them to be lonely in her house without her. Yet peace was not meant to last. Not today at least. Komasan for some reason he could not explain got an odd feeling crawling up his back. Most people got chills but for Komasan he got a feeling that felt more like his wisps circling his back. Komajiro felt off as well but not to the same extent as Komasan. The reason for this was soon to be revealed as following the feeling Komasan got intensifying there was a knock on Katie's door.

"One second guys. I wonder who that could be." Katie said as she began to walk to the door. Komasan got off the couch to follow Katie in seeing who could be at the door.

Katie was oblivious to Komasan's tense aura so she was rather relaxed in opening the door. When the young girl opened the door she was met by what seemed to be an ambush because she was cut completely off guard. She was barraged by a bouquet of summer flowers all of them pink and red in color. There were over a dozen beautiful flowers almost like the spirit of summer was captured and placed in someone's hands. Now of course the flowers were not the important part. It was more who could have given her these gorgeous plants. It was a green eyed yellow haired young man with a familiar confidence fueled wicked grin.

Things went too fast and peace was broken before Katie could even say, "Oh, Hello there Kyubi."

Komane already leapt into action and punched the young man with a blazing fist right in his face. The flowers were burned away in the process, a sad casualty of the attack. The white yo-kai was furious, his aura was blazing beyond imagination and was almost blinding. His face reflected nothing but white hot rage with his eyebrows furrowed deep and his mouth in a frown. After the first blow Komasan followed with another punch and another each of them searing hot. "Take this and that and this. You treacherous little…" grunted Komane in between hits.

"Kyubi!" Katie shouted with concern before trying to get Komane off of his target, "What has gotten into you. You shouldn't attack humans like that."

Komane didn't listen and just kept punching and thrashing with Kyubi. Komajiro ran over saying, "Hey what's with all the commotion over here." Komajiro then saw Komane beating up Kyubi and then he realized what was going on. "Wild Zaps." Komajiro said then frying Kyubi with yo-kai powered electricity.

"Komajiro! That's not helping." Katie said, "You can't just fry people like that. Frostina do you think you could help us out?" but when Katie turned around she noticed Frostina was cowaring in the corner of the room like she was afraid.

Katie turned back to Komane and asked while still trying to yank him off, "why are you trying so hard to beat up this boy?"

Komane said, "cuz, this ain't no boy Katie this is a gosh-darn, conniving, and conceded–"

Komane was cut off as he was blown away by a pulse of aura energy from Kyubi as he transformed back into his true form. Kyubi floated up and his eyes were filled with rage. "You dare get in my way again, you idoitic komainu! Oh I will obliterate you this time."

Katie shouted in surprise, "Wait Kyubi you're a yo-kai!?"

Komajiro who was now Komiger shouted back, "My big brother beat you last time all on own last time. So this time both of us are gonna rough you up so good that you don't bother us or Katie again."

Kyubi was about to speak again but Komane shut the fox yo-kai up with a simple ball of fire. "Shut yer trap before I shut it for you." The three then began to fight each other.

Katie backed away and said to herself, "I don't think I can handle this yo-kai chaos by myself, I think I need Nate. But I don't think the front door is an option." looking at the brawl in her doorway. Frostina who was still scared out of her mind mumbled out, "Mi-i-i-ira-a-apo"

Katie asked Frostina, "What?"

Frostina still petrified explained, "There is a Mirapo in your restroom. You can ask him to take you to Nate's house."

Katie said, "Really thanks Frostina, hey you should come with me. I don't want to leave you here all alone and scared."

Frostina said, "O-o-o-ok." Katie took Frostina's hand and they walked over to the restroom where Katie shined her watch and found Mirapo.

Mirapo said, "you found me, I can take you anywhere in the vast mirror network."

Katie said, "Can you please take us to Nathan Adam's house."

Mirapo said, "Sure thing. Right this way." Mirapo then guided Katie through his mirror and in seconds she was in Nate's house. Luckily Nate's parents weren't there so she wouldn't be caught using Mirapo. Katie then ran up to Nate's room interrupting him doing his homework and Jibanyan training.

"Hey Katie. What's wrong?" Nate asked, concerned that Katie looked worried and Frostina looked terrified.

"Yes and where are the two Koma brothers?" Whisper inquired.

Katie said, "We have a yo-kai emergency."

Eddie was a mess of a person. He had been in stressful situations even when it came to romance, yet like most kids his age, he had no idea what came after someone accepted your confession. All the headphone-wearing kid knew was reject or be rejected. So of course because Nate was as inexperienced at that as he was even less so at this point. Though he and Bear did notice he and Katie were spending more time together and had their suspicions. This was the one time guys like Eddie or Nate appreciated the fact that they got into relationships later than their friends. They had at least one person to go to for romantic advice. Eddie looking at it from this perspective felt bad for Bear he had no one to get advice from so he was just winging it. It probably didn't help what he and Nate told the guy. So Eddie talked with Bear about this thing and Bear was pretty basic just saying things like don't be too nervous or be sweet. Eddie knew Bear was hitting it off with Lulu but unfortunately for the rich kid his friend was very bad at explaining. Bear either stumbled out how to explain things, was not clear, or very vague. Not to say the advice when taken as a whole did not seem helpful it was more like being handed an unorganized toolbox then being told to build or fix something with it. You just did not really have any idea what to do with the thing. If anything it was confusing for Eddie. Eddie was a man of science so of course he wanted more data to backup his knowledge from Bear. So where did this boy go? Of course Eddie scoured the internet quite thoroughly on Reddit, Wikihow, and Quora digest. He looked up videos on youtube as well to try to find advice on "what-to-do-after-you-get-into-a-relationship?"

Now why was Eddie so worried, well he going to being hanging out with just Hailey again later that day though she did not say a time because well it was Hailey. She was very unpredictable. So what was Eddie supposed to think about this was it a date, was it just hanging out, what was it? That is why Eddie was stressed. As anyone could see Eddie tended to overthink things.

He really liked just hanging out with Hailey but he was not sure what the heck one should do on a date. And he didn't know if he was going on a date or not. Then it happened there was a knock on his door. Eddie jumped, she was finally here. Eddie swallowed hard and stiffly walked to the door. He was much like a robot as he walked downstairs. He then mechanically opened the door.

There she was so casual yet so bright. She wore her usual outfit and usual smile. "Hey Eddie. What's up?" Her voice was so filled with energy.

Eddie was so robotic though and said, "Hello, um I urh am doing well."

Hailey was confused and said, "Uh not what I asked but okay. You ready to watch some documentaries?"

Eddie said, "Um sure. Let's go." he welcomed Hailey in but despite his words his tone was an obvious facade hiding more obvious nervousness. His body language wasn't helping his case either. As he motioned for her to come in his movements were shaky and uncertain. They reflected the feeling of self-consciousness.

Hailey caught the feeling that something was off but she didn't think it could possibly be about her. Last time Eddie was so confident last time. He was guiding her. That made her feel relaxed. Now though. "Hey is something wrong?"

Eddie said, "Of course not, what would make you say that." despite how well put together that sounded it was hindered by his face almost twitching in indecision of what to express.

Hailey said, "You seem a bit on edge and you are acting weird."

Eddie brushed off the accusation, "No, no way, I am perfectly normal." Suddenly a bunch of fantasies popped into Eddie's head imagining Hailey storming out of the house, rejecting Eddie, slapping him, calling him out, being worried about Eddie and just quietly leaving, and countless more.

"EDDIE!" Hailey shouted worried about Eddie because he spaced out with a look of panic on his face. Hailey's face of worry only made Eddie panic even more which served to make the girl even more worried. "Why are you getting so worked up?!"

"I am not." said Eddie said clearly lying.

"Yes you are, and now you are lying. Why are you lying to me?" said Hailey.

Eddie knew he was caught and Hailey's eyes were pleading to him so he finally broke down. "Okay I am just worried okay."

Hailey was still confused, "What are you worried about?"

Eddie said, "I am worried about us! I don't know what I am doing or what to do!"

Hailey was surprised but then smiled her bubbly smile and said, "Like you said to me last time, we just hang out together like usual."

Eddie said, "Really? You are okay with just that."

Hailey said, "What else should I want? Its not like I am Jessica." Both laughed after that.

Eddie said, "Well then let's watch those documentaries then. Which ones should we watch."

Hailey said, "We should totally watch the new one about the nebulas."

Eddie said, "Oh yeah that will look so cool. It will also be super interesting to learn about the star cradles. Maybe our new space cameras have found some new ones."

Hailey said, "That would be so cool…" The two continued talking about science and the wonders of space. Yet as they sat down their hands found their way near each other and eventually the two were holding hands and it was as natural as the universe they were watching on the screen.

Nate rushed over to Katie's house as quick as possible which thankfully due to Mirapo was very quick. Anymore time left alone together and Kyubi and Komane would have burned the Forester place to the ground. Nate recognized the hostile yo-kai and said, "Hey hey, you two I know you guys hate each other but you can't burn Katie's house down because of it."

Kyubi said surprised, "Nathan? What are you doing here? You know Katie?"

Nate said, "Of course I do, we are friends." Getting between Komane and Kyubi.

Komane reverted back to Komasan and said, "I am sorry for getting rilled up it's just sensing this hoodlum makes me on edge Nate."

Komajiro said, "As it should brother. We were just protecting Katie from this big bully."

Katie stepped in and defended Kyubi, "Kyubi here has been nothing but kind to me , Maybe you just got a different Kyubi."

Kyubi took this as his out and said, "Of course, there are plenty of Kyubi's here in Springdale. You must have the wrong Kyubi."

Jibanyan said, "Nyo way nyan you are definitely the guy. I remember your jerkface. It was dumber than that Massiface. Plus you knew Nyate."

Whisper said, "Miss Katie you should be careful around his kind. They like tricking people as they please."

Kyubi retorted, "That is a hurtful stereotype." with mock offense flipping his tails

Katie then turned to Kyubi and asked, "Wait Kyubi why didn't you tell me you were a yo-kai before?"

Kyubi explained, "Well most humans are unaware of yo-kai existence and even then most are frightened by me. I just wanted to be your friend or maybe more…"

Nate caught wind of that last part and said, "Um Katie I really don't think you should be around this yo-kai."

Katie still obvious asked, "why not he seems nice enough and he's friends with you?"

Komajiro noticed that Frostina was still hiding behind Katie and asked, "Frostina what's wrong?"

Frostina stuttered out, "I-I-I a-a-m-m-m sc-a-a-ar-ed o-f-f-f-f K-k-k-k-k–" She couldn't even say his name.

Komajiro asked, "Kyubi? You're afraid of Kyubi?"

Komasan then said, "Don't worry me and my bro will protect you and Katie if this shifty fox tries anything."

Frostina said, "Th-th-th-thank you."

Kyubi then put two and two together and said, "Ah, I see. Well Nate I would feel bad for you but it is just business. That silly little crush of yours is going to be crushed by my charm."

Nate blushed deeply and Katie caught on slightly but still asked the boy, "Huh, what does he mean Nate?"

Nate nervous shook his blush away and said, "Nothing, it's nothing."

Kyubi said, "This situation may have complicated things but I will still win Katie's heart to complete my collection so I can finally become top fox around here."

Komasan said, "Not if me and my brother have anything to say about it."

Jibanyan said, "Or Nyate for that matter."

Kyubi said, "Like you can stop me. I am adored and beloved by all women so it will be easy."

Nate questioned, "Really, hmm? Well then why do you want Katie's heart so badly, why can't you get someone else's?"

Kyubi's pride felt under attack and he was growing more and more frustrated, "URH, because she is the first person to give me this much trouble collecting a heart."

Jibanyan then mocked, "Oh so you can't get every women's heart so easily can you."

Kyubi was enraged at this point, "Well at least I am more popular with the ladies than you are!"

Nate said, "Guys please. Kyubi you can't just toy with people's hearts like that."

Kyubi said, "Of course I can I am a kyubi it is what we do."

Whisper said, "I don't think we are going to get anywhere like this and confrontation does not seem like an option again."

Nate asked, "Well then what other options do we have? I have already befriended him."

Kyubi said, "Oh make no mistake Adams I may have given you my medal but we are not friends. In fact I wish for my medal back."

Komajiro said, "You can't do that!"

Komasan said, "Why you arrogant, no good, horn swaddling, son of a fox. You dare ask for your medal back. Those things should not be handed out lightly if you didn't want to be friends you shouldn't have given Nate your gosh darn medal in the first place ya hear. You have no honor as a yo-kai and no right to be a guardian."

Kyubi said, "Oh you little punk. I should obliterate you. How dare you speak of me that way. Don't you talk down to me." It looked like things were about to get ugly again with fighting stances being raised.

Nate said, "Wait, wait guys, stop!" Nate then looked at Kyubi, "Look Kyubi I am not going to fight you but I doubt Katie likes you that way and even if she did I wouldn't let you mess with her heart like its some sort of game like you think it is. It's not right."

Kyubi said, "Like I told you before you will not get in my way."

Nate then looked at Katie and asked, "Well Katie, what are your feelings towards Kyubi?"

Katie was confused but said, "Um, I thought I liked him at first but now it feels like he is a completely different person. I thought he was my friend at first but now I don't even know him." Kyubi was shot down.

"Oh no, no, no you can't just friendzone me like that. I am Kyubi! I will win your heart." Kyubi said.

Jibanyan said, "Yea right nyan I bet you aren't as popular as you think you are."

Kyubi asked, "Oh is that a challenge. Like you could best me."

Jibanyan said, "I didn't say I could beat you nyan just that you aren't as big a ladies man as you think you are."

Kyubi said, "Alright fine, Nate can call any of his yo-kai friends to face me in this competition if they win then I will leave Katie alone. But if I win then you all have to get out of my way and that includes those two annoying pipsqueaks with wisps for eyebrows. I erase Katie's memory of this with a Wazzat and I win her heart. Do we have a deal?" Kyubi didn't look at Jibanyan despite the fact that the cat initiated the challenge, the fox yo-kai looked at Nate.

Nate turned around and looked at Katie after all it wasn't his heart on the line. Katie nodded her head trusting in her friend. She knew he would not let her down. She didn't know about this heart nonsense but she did not like the sound of getting her memory wiped.

Nate said, "Deal." with a determined look.

Kyubi said, "Perfect, well to show you my ability to make people fall for moi, we will be seeing who can attract the most women in one hour."

Whisper said, "Well Nate you should know just who to call."

Jibanyan said, "Yup, it is up to him."

Nate said, "Okay then I guess so. Come on out my friend, Calling Dandoodle, yo-kai medal do your thing." Nate flipped the coin in the air and then inserted it into his watch.

From the golden light that spiraled out of the watch appeared Dandoodle.

Kyubi groaned, "Oh no."

Dandoodle flipped back his ear and said, "Ah, Nate I see you have decide to call me. Need a bit of fabulous in your life. I do hope that I am doing something more handsome than fighting. I don't mind getting my paws dirty but surely someone else would do more fabulously in combat than I."

Nate said, "Dandoodle, I do need some fabulous in my life. I need you to show Kyubi here the true meaning of handsome."

Katie seeing the yo-kai Nate summoned was confused, "An HFD? Those are yo-kai. And how can that help defeat Kyubi?"

Whisper said, "Ah well this is more than just any old human faced dog this is a handsome faced dog and a legendary yo-kai at that."

Jibanyan said, "Yea he may nyot look it but the guy is super popular with the ladies."

Katie said, "I don't know he seems kinda creepy to me."

Frostina from behind Katie said, "No, no Katie this guy is the real deal. If anyone can beat Kyubi in this kind of contest it is him."

Dandoodle looked at his opponent, "Ah a Kyubi? So you really do need my fabulous in your life. I will admit that they are quite elegant and graceful creatures but their arrogance." The dog yo-kai shook his head, "It is not fabulous. Quite the opposite in fact. I can tell this one in particular reeks of unfabulousness! You must be a youthful Kyubi. Not yet matured. Seems you need to be humbled."

Nate said, "Thanks Dandoodle, I knew I could count on you."

Kyubi said, "Urh, even I will admit this legendary pain in the backside will be a challenge. I am impressed Nate I didn't think you would have this kind of yo-kai in your arsenal of friends much less you would have the brains to summon him. I suppose you are not the brute I thought you to be. Yet I will still beat this old hack of legend and then claim Katie's heart. In fact they may be just the feat I need to prove I am guardian material. I guess I should thank you for the opportunity to use this legend to boost my own status."

Dandoodle glared back at Kyubi with a still handsome face, "Oh we'll see about that, you youngster."

This was going to be a clash worthy of legends and one fought not with primitive strength but high class looks and charm.

Spring Tower was a beautiful place. It was lucky that Springdale had a location like this so closeby. Though it mostly attracted tourists it was also a popular spot for many kids of all ages. It was a popular hang out for young people. It was an easy place to meet up and still plenty exciting for them. Yet despite the scenic view from atop the tower it was quite awkward for two kids that were alone together that day. Despite fact that the two kids admitted they liked each other and had just loved to hang out with each other. These moments of awkwardness couldn't help but come. And unfortunately for them it was not the work of any yo-kai.

Lina and Lucas were together looking down on all of springdale from the top of Spring Tower. The club was making last minute preparations for their next ghost(yo-kai) hunt that was going to be happening tomorrow night. Zoey was still busy at work but Lina and Lucas finished up what they needed to do early so it was just them. As for Foiletta she was checking up on the school seeing how it was recovering from the incident earlier that summer.

Since the two had nothing to do and hadn't truly had any alone time together they decided to go to Spring Tower. Zoey did laugh at them for their surprise encounter the other day but honestly despite the initial shock they had fun. This time it was just them. Still awkwardness filled the room. Neither knew what they were doing. They were just there. Somehow they were in an odd kind of unsync. Each time one of them tried to speak the other cut them off on accident and then the apologizes destroyed any attempt at conversation.

"Um so…" one of them would try to start.

"Oh urm." the other would interrupt, "Sorry! I didn't mean to…"

"It's okay you go first." both would try to say at the same time. Despite the horrible torture of awkwardness if anyone were to say they were having a bad time they would be wrong. The two really did enjoy each other's company even if they were just being quiet. In fact the silent walk to spring tower was probably the highlights of both their days. They both smiled the whole way as they held hands. Zoey was quite right they were a fumbling mess when it was just the two of them. When they were with the detective club they got along in conversation well. Even with just Foiletta, the conversation was smooth. They both just wished now that things would be the same. That one of them could actually start a conversation.

Both were sweet and kind people. Both were understanding and quiet. Lina loved the paranormal and novels. Lucas was mysterious on the outside but to his friends they knew he was mostly just the average boy albeit his rather stellar grades out of the original ghost hunter's club he had the best grades followed by Lina then Zoey. Both kids knew it wasn't because Zoey wasn't smart, Lucas and Lina were afraid some days of just how cunning and crafty the girl was but she did not really excel in academics. The two had known each other for a long time. They knew neither would do anything to hurt the other which was why no matter how awkward things got the feeling of enjoying each other's company eventually overpowered it.

Lucas asked, "So are you ready for tomorrow?"

Lina looked to Lucas and said, "Yes. It has been so long since we have done something like this. I wonder if we are going to find any interesting yo-kai maybe we can learn their stories and become their friends."

Lucas said with a reassuring smile, "We probably will. I hope things don't get too dangerous."

Lina said, "I don't know, I know a couple of my yo-kai friends could use a good fight. You think we might run into a really powerful yo-kai."

Lucas said, "Well I am pretty sure that we are heading over to a major yo-kai hang out so I wouldn't be surprised."

Lina said, "I wonder what we'll find next. It seems we have hit most of the ghost spots in Springdale."

Lucas said, "Summer is getting close to an end though. Maybe ghost activity will start up again next summer or we will learn other rumors during the school year."

Lina said, "Yeah I hope so. A shame though the summer is ending."

Lucas said, "Yeah at least we get to do one more exciting thing."

Lina said, "Hey and this school year we can help Nate deal with all the yo-kai problems at the school."

Lucas said, "Nate sure is glad to have so many people in the class to help him out with yo-kai problems."

Lina said, "Hey we were able to just talk."

Lucas said, "Yea, we did." The two smiled at each other. Then just enjoyed the view, taking in the summer view.

Kyubi and Dandoodle moved the competition downtown since that area was more active and it would be easier for them to "woo" women.

"This will be a cake walk." Dandoodle said strutting along the street. Women had already started flocking around just the legendary yo-kai.

"I will admit that your power is legendary but trust me I will win this." Kyubi said. The sly fox of a yo-kai had slightly altered his illusory appearance to be more appealing to a larger range of women.

"Oh really well that disguise of yours seems to say otherwise. Some yo-kai don't need to hide their true appearances to win over the ladies." Dandoodle mocked.

"You have your powers over women and I have mine." retorted Kyubi shooting a quick glare at the dog yo-kai.

"Hey how come Dandoodle isn't disquising himself?" Katie asked.

"Oh well that's quite easy to explain, miss Katie," Whisper said grabbing out his yo-kai pad but he was too late to speak.

"Yessiry, that is a good question, some yo-kai don't even know this but to disguise yourself you must first conceal your true form. Seems here this here fancy yo-kai can't conceal himself." Komasan explained.

"Yea like Manjimutt nyan." Jibanyan said, "Dogs are so dumb."

"No, no, no, don't you compare me to that mongrel. He is much too foolish to hide himself but for me my power is so strong that I can't possibly conceal this much fabulousness how could anyone. Why would I want to do that anyway." Dandoodle said. Dandoodle was right even though he had his doggy attributes the ladies could not stay off of him.

"This is kind of creepy." Katie said watching Dandoodle work.

"Yeah but it is our only hope." said Nate, "Better than seeing Kyubi in his true form trying to 'woo' women." Both kids shuttered at the thought.

Kyubi and Dandoodle continued their little competition. Downtown station was flooded with women because of these two yo-kai. It was like half of the ladies in the city were all gathered around these two.

Attention was something that these two did not lack yet someone had been watching them from above.

"Ah seems someone is throwing a party of love. Yet they forgot to invite the most important guest." said an eerily mysteriously familiar yo-kai.

"Hrm."

"Hrm." Both yo-kai were incredibly frustrated and annoyed.

"Hmm, it seems by the count confirmed by Komajiro, Komasan, and myself, you both have tied." Whisper stated with his usual joyful expression the same Nate was greeted to the day they met. Similarly the two people on the receiving end of that joyful expression were not in pleased moods.

"I can't believe my legendary ability was unable to best this childish con artist." said Dandoodle scrunching his handsome face.

"Though I am glad to prove I am not inferior to this low quality legend. I don't like the inability to prove my oblivious superiority." said Kyubi crossing his arms in frustration.

"Hmm that doesn't make sense how could you two tie?" Nate asked confused and frustrated.

"Yea the odds seem very low." Whisper said.

"Crazy how they both got the exact same amount of women to fall in love with them." Katie said.

Komajiro said, "It seems like Dandoodle is more appealing to older women specifically those in their middle age."

Komasan said, "Yea and these here younger missies are head over heals for Kyubi."

"Hehe," a voice laughed.

"Urh who dares laugh at my grace and power." Kyubi growled as he turned his head to see who was laughin at him.

"Yes who dares mock a legendary yo-kai." Dandoodle said turning his head the same as Kyubi's

"Haha. Oh forgive me. I just can't help but find it funny when amateurs like yourselves try this kind of thing." laughed the arrogant and chaos-loving Casanuva floating down to gloat.

"Ametures how dare you!" Kyubi and Dandoodle said.

Dandoodle said, "I, you cheeky heartshooter, am a legendary yo-kai who wins women's fabulous hearts by building them up and charming them with my looks I am no amateur. And this young Kyubi may not be fabulous at heart but certainly is no amateur at capturing a woman's heart."

Kyubi said, "Yes how dare you insult us with the label amateur especially me."

Katie asked, "Hey who is this guy?"

Nate was silent but one could tell a flood of negative emotions filled him just from the aura he was surrounded by.

Whisper said, "Um well you see."

Jibanyan said, "How could you forget this nyan?!"

Komajiro explained, "So this yo-kai here is Casanuva he fits right in with these three he is a ladykiller and he controls who falls in love."

Katie said, "Woah yo-kai can do that?!"

Frostina who was still hiding behind Katie said, "Yes and his powers are quite destructive especially mentally. He can destroy until nations with his power over love."

Nate shouted, "Hey you can get out of here. Don't make me summon Casanono again. We don't need you causing anymore trouble. We can hardly handle Kyubi." Nate was clearly filled with rage.

Casanuva gave a glance to Nate and recognized the boy instantly, "Oh it's you! You annoying little average boy."

Nate was further enraged at the word average his face was almost as red as his shirt and his rage comparable to an oni.

Casanuva continued, "Haha, I can't believe you are here. I bet you two supposed masters of romance are friends with him and that is why your powers are dull in comparison to mine." Between the three males there was enough rage to power an inferno. "Either way I just want in on your game. I don't care about whatever deal or anything you two probably have for the winner I just want to prove I am the best at romancing women."

Kyubi, Dandoodle, and Nate all shouted, "No way!" and none of them were inspirited by the yo-kai of the same name.

Casanuva mocked again, "Oh I see you don't think either of you could best me."

Kyubi said, "Why you! Of course we could I bet you are even worse than this legendary hack. You will pay for being a constant frustration on my quest for a hundred hearts."

Dandoodle said, "It seems I need to teach two boys a lesson on fabulousness." striking a pose in comparison to the hostile and aggressive Kyubi who already got fires ready in his palms.

Casanuva said, "Great now you really have a game."

Whisper said, "You better prepare Casanono for your watch Nate incase he tries something."

Nate said, "Already ahead of you." Nate was already posing with his medal in hand to summon his anti-romance friend.

Katie was confused, "I wonder why Nate is so upset. I have never really seen him this worked up."

Jibanyan said, "Oh Nyate really despises this yo-kai. He has a lot of issues nyan."

So the game of capturing women's hearts rebegan. Casanuva donned a disguise of his own similar to Kyubis but with tan skin and maintaining his pink hair and red eyes. He looked like a boy around Kyubi's "age" All three yo-kai pulled out all the stops this time to attract women. Kyubi and Dandoodle were even more intense than last time and cranked their charm to its maximum. Casanova knowing his competition gave it his all too and added a bit of his power to give him the edge. Casanova thought for sure his power would easily be enough to get him the win but the powerful charm of the other two yo-kai were so strong they overwrote his inspirits.

By the time the hour for the competition was up all three yo-kai were pooped. They all laid on the ground exhausted from their competition. If the last competition attracted half of the women in springdale this round attracted half the population of springdale.

"Okay and the results!" Whisper said with the same glee as last time. Everyone was on edge waiting to hear the results. Katie was concerned who would win and what her fate would be. Komasan, Komajiro, and Frostina were also concerned for Katie. Nate was worried for Katie but also had faith in Dandoodle and Jibanyan matched that faith but also had a load of curiosity. The three participants were the most on edge they needed to know which one of them was the best with love.

"The results conclude that… ALL THREE OF YOU TIED!" Whisper said.

"WHAT!" Everyone shouted.

"Impossible! How could my legendary charm fail again." Dandoodle said in mostly confusion at the failure of his abilities.

"No way. This can't be right." Kyubi said ball of fire prepared to roast Whisper.

"Your count must be off." said Casanuva his self-esteem shattered.

"How could they possibly get the exact same number again?" Nate asked in disbelief.

"Nyumbers nyan they are crazy." Jibanyan said rather calm compared to everyone else.

"Better question how are we going to decide who won now?" Katie asked.

Kyubi rushed to Katie and said, "Just give me your heart, that will prove I am the best womanizer and I will get my 100th heart!"

Kyubi was shoved out of the way by Casanuva who said, "No way if anyone is the best it is me! Give me your heart Katie.

Dandoodle did not participate and said, "Guys this is not very fabulous of you two." Katie was now flustered by the advances that the two yo-kai in their human forms made.

"Come now Katie you know you love me. You must I need that heart." said Kyubi.

"Oh no you don't she must love me." Casanuva said.

Frostina was now afraid and ran behind the Koma brothers who were preparing to go in to save Katie.

"Katie is mine you plucky little heart." Kyubi said.

"No she is mine! You ugly simpliton." said Casanuva. Nate was about to step in at this point preparing to summon for help.

"NO, I am not!" Katie shouted, "I may be clueless when it comes to romance but I know I have no interest in you two jerks!" Kyubi was so surprised by her outburst he reverted back to his true form in shock.

Casanuva however said, "Fine if you won't fall for my charm then I will get you to fall for me because of my cannons!" Casanuva poofed and in his true form prepared to shoot Katie to fall in love with him. His eyes were wild and crazed.

"Not on my watch!" Nate said as he jumped infront of Katie. Nate was shoot by the heart and was caught in Katie's arms but it would be too late.

However when Nate was shot Casanono's medal fell from his hands and roled over to Kyubi. Kyubi looked down recovering from the shock of Katie yelling at him. Seeing the Casanono medal Kyubi was reminded of the aura surrounding Katie the second time they met and the conversation they had. Kyubi then looked back at all the passion Nate had. Kyubi had reflected on the warning his master gave him. Yet during the moment of realization the thing that struck Kyubi the most were Katie's own words the first time they met. "I guess I like the average guy." remembering her smile. Kyubi himself then smiled finally admitting defeat and giving up on claiming Katie's heart.

"Nate!" Katie said worried.

"Haha. Either way I win! I win!" Casanuva said.

"No, you don't." Kyubi said his aura burning fiery behind him, "No one inspirits my friends like that. You have no honor you shameless excuse for a yo-kai." Kyubi burned the aura off Nate before it took effect with the flick of his fingers.

"Kyubi." Katie said in awe.

"I don't think you will be bother us again for a while." Kyubi said, "You don't deserve to see the human world." Casanuva looked in fear at Kyubi. "Inferno." Kyubi then incinerated Casanuva back to the yo-kai world with a blast of fire.

Dandoodle smiled and said, "I think this young fox actually has learned a bit of fabulousness. I think I am clear to leave, my work here is done." Dandoodle then disappeared in a puff of purple smoke.

Nate awoke and asked, "What happened?"

Katie said, "That Casanuva was about to shoot you and… you jumped to protect me." Katie gave a light blush but then continued, "After you were shot Kyubi stepped in and helped remove the inspirit from you and then defeated Casanuva. It was amazing."

Nate said, "Really. Thank you Kyubi." Nate was grateful to Kyubi.

Kyubi didn't look at either kid he only said, "I guess I was wrong about you Nate. You are definitely worthy of my friendship, afterall you somehow managed to do something I couldn't do. And… Katie I know its guaranteed but I still wish you luck when it comes to love. Maybe I could have taught you something. Take my medal though if you ever feel want to talk about romance." Kyubi flew away but he left his medal to Katie.

Katie said, "Huh I wonder what that was all about."

Nate said, "I don't know but I think we don't have to worry about him bothering you anymore."

Jibanyan said, "Good now let's go home this was so exhausting nyan."

Komasan said, "But wait since we're all here. Can't we get some ice cream from the burger place?!" All of them then laughed at that and they all decide ice cream was just what they needed. Katie thought as they left though, "Love is an odd thing."

AN: Some we got some Eddie x Hailey, Lina x Lucas, and a little bit of Nate x Katie. No fluff for Nate x Katie. I do love the tease and slowburn. But at least we know now that neither Kyubi or any cupid based yo-kai will be interfering with Katie and her feelings now. I like making these more shipping focused chapter and I hope you guys enjoy reading them! Not everything can be a battle or settled with combat after all this story's whole premise is based on what Whisper describes as the way to deal with yo-kai "Negotiation and Confrontation" I always felt like the anime didn't have that confrontational part that the games did and I felt like the games didn't have the negotiation part that the anime did. Plus this does give Dandoodle a great chance to shine as he was Nate's second legendary yo-kai but gets very slept on in the games and in the anime. I though a competition like this would be perfect to show his personality and skills off. Also to develop Kyubi's relationship with both Nate and Katie since Kyubi is a very standoffish yo-kai I thought just a defeat in battle would not be enough for Nate to call on him. As for Eddie and Hailey, I just conjured up how romantic relationships can just be friendships with a little fluff there doesn't need to be any pressure to change that. Eddie seems like the type to overthink especially for relationships while Hailey would be more chill with it especially with a friend. As for Lina and Lucas, I wanted to show how it is ok to fumble a little bit with awkwardness, communication is very important for relationships but that doesn't always mean conversation has to be a core part. I like them as more of the quiet couple that just get to enjoy the peace life has to offer. Again I hope you all like the presentation of the shipping. And as always hope you all enjoyed the read.
