While I had an easy time with the slimes, even stronger foes like undead skeletons and undead kobolds turned into jokes once I got a proper understanding on how to fight those off.
Admittedly, I struggled a bit to find a good weapon and some protection, but I was able to find a broken sword and a worn-out shield to add to my current stats and extend my combat capacity. It gave me the edge, and while the blade was dull, the damage was still enough to put the monsters to rest.

The few cuts all over my outfit were also proof I didn't dodge everything, and I got accustomed to the pain of getting too careless - I was reminded a few times through the pain this was not truly a game. And that my goal was true and very real. My rage kept on being rekindled each time I got hit, each time I had to use Self-Heal to patch my injuries and everything I slain more of those monsters.
The two Undead types I faced provided me with two more skills, Undying Stomach which allowed me to consume rotten food since I was not given a 'Gamer Body' and I still required to satisfy my hunger and my thirst from time to time; and Fireball which was... the most basic fire attack I could get but still provided me with a long-ranged attack.
Undying Stomach (Passive Skill) - You are able to consume rotten food. (Poison is still effective against you)
Fireball (Active - LVL.2) - Use 5 MP to produce a small fireball. DMG = (M. ATK x 2,5)
As the data showed, I had tested out Fireball enough to level it up too. From my understanding, leveling it up added a 0.5 addition to the damage multiplier with each level up, which was quite good in the long run if I kept on relying on this spell or something evolved from it.
Still, the castle was... not a small place as I was quick to learn while studying the map. When one thinks of a castle, they imagine a huge manor or a place that was once meant to house the nobles and a king.
The Demon King's castle was actually a capital of sort. A deserted one at it.
The place had been vacated of its former locals, abandoned following the attack from the Light forces. The purple drapes with a black dragon had been torn a year ago, but the wrecked walls seemed to have gone through several years of being damaged by time. I could only guess the intensity of the siege which led to this level of ruin.
One thing I had to also mention is that I couldn't access the castle in its entirety - either iron doors kept areas sealed away, or entire rooms were completely buried in rocks and stones that once made the ceiling of said rooms.
Finding keys was not what I had expected to deal with in this first quest, but I accepted that the greatest revenges had to take time, effort, and ultimately caution to go through successfully.
By all means, I could tell I was stepping into the shoes of 'classic' villainry with the way I had been set up to acquire power through the Demon King's castle, but I didn't care. I wasn't a bad person, I wasn't evil, and I definitely refused to lower myself to the same level as the scum I was hunting down.
The monsters I faced were mindless creatures that came from the ground, raised by something that was reviving those as zombified entities.
The slimes were the most alive of the bunch, but those were potentially dumber than the mindless zombies.
The blue gooey monsters acted upon instinct and that hardly cared for self-preservation as they tried to attack me whenever it was within reach. It didn't matter how many I slain, how much strong I proved myself to be, the slimes just craved an early demise form the looks of it.
It's been two hours since I started to 'grind', and I had taken a moment to sit by one of the halls I had cleared out to look at the map.
While I did get the full map of the place with the potential entry-points for each area, there was no telling on what was held within each of those rooms, only the name given to those.
I had tried to check the barracks to find some better equipment, but there were only ruins - possibly wrecked as one of the many military spots that the light forces saw to destroy the earliest.
The libraries within the closest layers to the entrance had been torched down, leaving behind ashes and ruined shelves for me to find.
I was a very patient guy after years of bowing my head to others' whims, so I was not that touched by the overall lack of progress in that regard - I was leveling, I was getting stronger...
But I knew I had to find a way to further bolster my chances of victory.
If this world worked around levels and everyone could get stronger through those, then I had to worry about people at my same level being somewhat stronger due to either stronger skills or better equipment.
"What about the Royal Garden?" I asked myself, looking at the large rectangle of green that stretched as close as the entrance and reached the heart of the castle itself. As I looked upon it by a nearby window, I could only imagine the beautiful green field filled with various flowers and monsters that was split by a river.
What was left was a lot of thorny weeds, a violet river which I could assume was poisoned, and crumbled pillars that had left the place as a dead battlefield.
Despite that, I could see that it didn't have any major obstacle stopping me from finally leaving the initial area and venture deeper into the castle. To my relief, the garden's entry point was not blocked by anything and I entered it shortly after.
If before I didn't have much reason to spam the Fireball spell, I soon was given a good enough motivation to do so. Instead of the classic undead foes I had been facing, I found out right as I ventured deeper into the maze-like garden that a new kind of threat stood between me and the other side.
Corrupted Nymph
HP: 150
Tall and slender, like 'short ents' from the Lord of the Rings, but with humanoid faces twisted in deranged scowls that released roars and groans like wild animals. These 'damaged' Nymphs were going out of their way to attack me, aggressive enough to ignore the fire attacks that were decimating them.
The type advantage gave more damage to the fireballs, but I had a finite use of those. I managed to cut into their numbers by forcing them into large lines that were then struck by unrelenting streams of fire.
By the end of that first battle, I was relieved to notice I had leveled up twice as I faced more than a dozen of those and they handed out 10 EXP each upon their deaths.

Fireball had also evolved by two levels, which increased the damage some more and made the overall spell important as I moved through the large ruined field.
Fireball (Active - LVL.4) - Use 5 MP to produce a small fireball. DMG = (M. ATK x 3,5)
Still, I couldn't help but feel displeased by the state of the garden. Something about the air was not right, it felt polluted and maybe it had to do with the poisoned river.
I continued to venture through the garden, killing twenty more corrupted nymphs (which allowed me to level up again) and finally seeing something which I assumed to be the cause of the corruption.

A large closed pink flower that was glowing in the middle of the garden. I hadn't exactly noticed it before I stepped into the field as I had looked for a path to leave the beginning area, but this may be the source of the issue.
While my main goal was to get through the castle the earliest, if I was able to find something good by either inspecting, destroying or fighting the unblossomed flower, I could tell that it would make up for the detour.
So, I took a turn and started to approach the flower itself.
Two more nymphs jumped at me, but I killed them with a swift fireball- which prompted another level up.

I am so close to Level 10.
It was one last thought about my overall plans before I felt strangely compelled to approach the large flower. Spores? Magic? I couldn't tell as I felt my body moving on its own. Soon I had my hand raised and stroking the surprisingly warm petals and-

I pulled away as I felt something cut across my palm, some of my blood staining the petal as I saw it glowing some more before shooting a green blast up to the sky.
It impacted some clouds, which proceeded to spread all over the skies over the garden. I blinked as I felt the first raindrop hit my nose, then more came down. Soon it was raining intensely, and a window opened in front of me.
DING! HP and MP fully restored thanks to the Restoring Rain.
What?
I looked around as I felt the rain somewhat curing the grass, turning it from dark green to a softer shade.
The river too slowly turned from purple to dark blue and then a clear blue.
I was confused by this turn of events, but it was as the rain ceased and the flower slowly opened that I was given another notification.
DING! You have received a new familiar [Nymph Princess]. Please, give her a name the earliest possible.
I frowned at the single figure that had been held within the flower, the floreal-themed humanoid opened her purely green eyes, and those glowed as they turned to greet me.
She had a pink flower as helmet-hair, similar to the plant she came from with green vines stretching down like proper hair behind her. She was wearing a pink dress with golden floreal decorations and green boots (Ref: Lilimon from Digimon).

Her mouth opened in a toothless smile. "Master~!"
I was so stunned that I was caught off-guard some more as she jumped and tackled me onto the grass, cheeks nuzzling against my white shirt and necktie while I tried to recoil from what had just occurred.
What do you mean I got now a plant girl as my familiar?!
AN
Introducing... Nymph Princess! Her name will be made known by next chapter, but she is not a lustful entity for those wondering. As someone that was 'just born' for the role of eventually becoming Queen of the Nymphs in the Demon Castle, the girl is absolutely loyal to MC and will do anything to make his dreams come true - especially if it means killing off the pathetic parent that had ditched her master and her master's mother.
