Being a Seraphim was not only a matter of merely being, but a matter of eternally-bound dutifulness.

The Lord was the Savior and the Guide they all looked up to. And His teachings were clear within the right glances.

To someone like Sera, this was a concept she had been able to fully accept from the moment of conception. From the first day she came to be as a living being, she knew where her devotion was aimed at.

And yet, the path of righteousness was one that only a few could follow. Questions can be the easiest temptation as curiosity and free will tended to produce some of the worst falls.

She remembered when so many strayed from the path of God, and decided to leave His flock. A horrible several years, followed by more and more disappointments.

To say that Sera was a lover of the status quo, as required by the Lord, would be tantamount of underestimation - she was a zealot of it.

...

Until her own zealotry clouded her gaze.

After all, Sera was now staring at the fine result of her most recent blindness and proof that God's Plan wasn't as simple as she imagined.

"Isss this right?"

Sir Pentious was a sinner- he used to be a sinner. Right now, he was a soul in heaven. He had died in the same battle where Adam was slain, his smile innocent and his memories preserved from his time in hell.

HOW?

That was what Sera was trying to make sense of. Did he find a way to trick the system? Was he actually a mastermind in disguise as he used some feigned idiocy to pass as a normal stooge?

While Sera was keen to try and find the worst out of non-heavenly figures out of experience, the Seraphim could tell this one was indeed a dummy. And... one that she had promised Emily that she would take care of.

"Yes, Pentious. But drink the tea with your lips rather than with your tongue. And slowly as it is hot."

And why did it have to be a snake sinner?!

Of all possible options, it had to be someone sharing traits with someone that was known to have clashed with the Lord several times.

While Sera didn't know about Lucifer personally, and she didn't truly have much of a hateful bone towards his daughter, that didn't mean she was keen to ignore the tales of the Bible - how the Snake was a monster in disguise, slithering and corrupting wherever he went.

...

Which is why Sera had relocated Emily. After all, the girl was too open-hearted and too exposed to seduction of emotions.

That one and only encounter with Charlie had severely put Emily in a position of suspicion.

While Sera knew her well enough to not question her fellow but younger Seraphim's loyalty to God, that didn't mean she was going to let her keep around that path of doubt and hesitation.

So, with the promise of taking care of this sinner-turned-redeemed soul, Sera was 'allowed' to reassign Emily to a different duty away from anything relating to Hell. It was the best thing to do, even if it meant breaking her little sister's heart in the process.

It's been a day or so since she last spoke with Emily and, after that tea lesson with Pentious, Sera felt compelled by familial worry to check on her sister.

Softly strolling through the palace of Seraphims, Sera paused to graciously bow and greet at fellow souls there, and then... she reached Emily's room.

If there is one thing that no amount of Love for God could fix was Emily's inherent delight in turning her usually-tidy room into a chaotic realm of books and papers when she was busy studying over a topic.

But... this time, there was something odd about it.

After all, the duty that Emily had to tackle hardly needed her to study as extensively as she was. Tons of books had formed towers that threatened to break the record of Babel itself.

Huffing, Sera thought that this was the result of Emily overthinking her duty. Again.

But as she ventured into the realm of books and tomes, she found Emily actually taking notes from... various biblical books.

Three journals had already been filled up, and a fourth was being stuffed with summarized notes from each book.

"...Emily?"

The younger Seraphim froze, and then, with wide eyes and growing smile, she turned to her.

"Sera! Good evening-"

"It's morning, dear."

Emily blinked, her eyes owlishly turning to the only clock in her room and... she blinked again.

"I think I forgot to sleep."

"Then that means you should rest at once!" Sera argued with worry. "Oh dear, why have you kept awake for so long?"

"I needed to get ready. For my task."

"You have been assigned to return the sheep to the flock, my dear. I doubt this is... enough to warrant a study session of this proportion."

"It does," Emily assured with a degree of honesty that wasn't missed to Sera. "I found someone, the first one actually, who was... good. And I was not. He had a good reason to not go to Church so... I have to find a way to convince him."

Sera was surprised by the dedication shown by her sister. She was always the hard-worker, something she could never fault Emily for, but that at times worried Sera to no end.

Seraphims were mighty creatures, yes, but their minds had limits and they still needed to slumber from time to time.

"I see. Well... don't exert yourself too much, Emily. There is no rush."

"I know, I know... what about Sir Pentious? How are you finding him?"

"Silly," Sera admitted truthfully, and her choice word triggered a giggle from Emily much to her relief and delight. "Alas, he is willing to listen. I do wonder what made him a sinner as he hardly shows any strong vice."

"Hm, that sounds interesting but... someone told me to not look into it."

And here was the issue coming up again.

"Emily, we talked about this-"

"I know. I just... how come this is the first time it ever happened? I mean, shouldn't more of this have came up? Any other redeemed souls? Why now? What didn't we do right?"

The last question was particularly harsh. Priding herself a wise Seraphim, Sera was genuinely clueless on what had occurred. She thought, within good reasons, that redemption was impossible.

There had been humans professing the notion of 'redemption' through a realm called 'purgatory', but this wasn't a true thing. In fact, the only case of 'redemption' she could truly think about was when Jesus Christ descended upon Hell and carried out several sinners which had been placed there wrongly.

It was back to a time where God had held a grudge against Lucifer, and any plea for meetings had gone unheard. Then Jesus roused from his mortal coils and convinced his Father to try reaching out.

The two spoke and decided, with a thaw in the cold relations between Hell and Heaven allowing for dialogue to be possible even now.

But...

Adam's death created issues. Some wanted revenge, others were content with hardening their diplomatic stance towards Hell, but the strongest posture came from individuals that hardly involved themselves into politics:

The Archangels.

Michael was particularly vocal, a rare moment of activity within Heaven's own choices that truly reminded all of God's last warnings: there shan't be a war upon Hell unless Heaven was invaded.

This clashed heavily with the vengeful rhetoric, but the Seraphims stood by God's own Will. There shan't be war upon Hell.

"I am unsure, Emily. All I can say is that I will personally look into this and... I will bring back my findings."

Finally, Emily smiled a tired smile and came for a hug. Despite how intimacy was frowned upon, Sera loved to embrace her beautiful little sister. So innocent and full of hopes - unlike her, jaded by time and disappointment.

"Thank you, Sera!"

If only deeds were as simple as words...
