"…You're right. It is too easy, what we have." Lucy's head snapped up, eyes wide. She looked like she'd been slapped. Cobra continued. "If we don't want it to be escapism…then we can't escape. We'd need to…tell each other about those things, about what we wanted to forget, why we want to forget them. Then, we could decide what to do with them…together."

He swore he'd never seen Lucy's eyes so wide. "Only…if you thought that would help," he added, "and it might…take a while, with certain things. But I wouldn't mind trying…if it's with you."

Lucy's eyes glistened. He could tell she was fighting back more tears. Sad or happy ones, he didn't yet know. "How…how would you listen?" She whispered.

His gaze was as gentle as he knew how to make it. "By watching you talk, making sure the words I hear match only what your lips speak. Nothing more, nothing less." He didn't know how to convey his sentiment any more sincerely.

Judging from her now freely flowing tears, his intentions came through. "Would you really do that? Cobra it's…there's so much."

"Don't worry, you'll have Erik to contend with too. He's going to be so shy at first you might only get a few words out at a time. It might take a while to figure out what he's trying to say."

She smiled, actually smiled, at his remark. The expression made him wish he had a photographic memory. "I'd be sure to be gentle around him, give him time to open up to me," she said. "Make sure he feels safe."

"Oh, it probably won't take as long as you think. He's shy, sure, but he's already admitted to me that he secretly quite likes…" Cobra stopped as the words in his mouth finally caught up with his brain. He was about to say something revealing, too revealing. Maybe she hadn't caught it…

Judging by the pink coloring her face, she did get it. Cobra's ears grew hot. Stupid Erik and his big stupid mouth.

"Well–well that's ok," Lucy squeaked out. "Because…I might like Erik more than he knows too."

Cobra hoped the flush on his face was less noticeable with his tanned skin. Erik smiled. Who was looking stupid now?

A/N: A song that I found myself playing and thinking about while writing this past scene is Reaching Out to Find You by NEEDTOBREATHE. I'd encourage anyone to check out the song/album its from and reread these past few parts with it in mind. :)
