Chapter 27: Terrorize the Child(e)

I always knew that I would have eventually met my 'counterpart' of the Fatui kind.

After all, right from the very moment I laid my eyes on the OG Sampo, I could just tell...

He is going to hit it off so well with Childe.

I mean, they had some similarities between appearance and overall personality, but where Sampo's scummery was usually far from evil, Childe's organization was inherently set to uproot Teyvat's society. Especially when his own mission was to trouble people over the thing that made money for Liyue and beyond.

I wasn't the original Sampo, nor I intended to play softball with someone as meddlesome as Childe. But I saw an opportunity in dealing with him early on to prevent any 'issues' in that regard. Now, I am a greedy man and a people's man too, so I had all the reasons to intervene in what I felt was a massive gamble from Morax himself, but I was very aware my own steps would warrant an unpleasant interest from the Geo Archon towards me. And, if before he had been very indirect in his enmity towards me, I will soon take steps to make sure he had some personal reasons for that.

I mean, I am Sampo- and I am also someone that really hated when 'old idiots' decided it was a fine idea to set up the stage for the potential annihilation of their home. Out of love, like a father kicking a child off some rocks unto deep waters so that the youth can learn how to swim.

First, however, I had to deal with Childe. It was early in the morning as I had gotten the three little wards of mine to keep sleeping before I slipped out of the inn and got a single message delivered to the Fatui bank meant solely for Childe. Of course, the guards there weren't exactly too earnest to accept such task, but I made it clear their boss will want to read what I wrote there.

I heard from Teucel you sell toys, Mr. Tartaglia. Let's talk about it! -Sampo

A simple line that wouldn't mean anything to all but my intended target. Such a shame I couldn't exactly use my Elated powers without triggering the Adepti, or I would have found a way to reduce a legitimate 'Tiller' and given it to Childe's sweet and innocent brother once he visited. Pushing aside what I perceived a thought for later, I waited for Childe to find me. A hour later, he found me by one of the distant peaks near to the docks, sitting down and meditating my inner bullshit for the upcoming visit. After all, there are two reasons I hated Childe.

First, he is an asshole. Second, he is a combat-addicted asshole. So, I knew by basic instinct I was going to be asked to-

"So, do you want to pick a fight with me or-"

"Nope."

I turned and I saw the young man approaching. Youngest Harbinger, and currently third most hated beneath Dottore and Scaramouche. I sat up, dusted myself and ignored the fact Childe had his bow and arrow ready.

"If you aren't here to fight, then why did you-"

"I want your serious thoughts on me, because I am going to give you a solid warning, if not an advice in the names of what little good will exists between me and Snezhnaya."

"And that is?" Childe asked, lowering his bow but keeping his stance tense.

"You will cease your pursuit of the Gnosis. And you will be able to survive this mission. Not just you, but the entire Liyuean branch of your little cold posse."

It was very simple. He planned to get the Gnosis? I will kill him. He thought about getting the Gnosis? Dead. He dreamed of coercing little Lumi to be a criminal? I will do far worse than murdering his ass.

He looked surprised... for a moment. Then he smiled and snorted. "Well, Sampo, I have to say that this sounds very ominous, but I will say that while you can have quite a lot of strength to back up this claim, I will tell you that Morax himself made a deal with us. He already surrendered the Gnosis to us."

Oh? That happened a little earlier than I had expected, which meant Zhongli had to be already around and I sighed. And then I allowed Childe to be a bit scared as I allowed some of my lingering Elation energy touch him. It was just a little bit, nothing close to the surface, but it was still enough to bring him to his knees. I may not be able to use my mask for bigger displays without getting the boot, but I could still use a little 'surprise' to just remind him of the difference between us. It was a reminder that, wherever he thought this world ruled by quantifiable strength, he will remember that this was bullshit to some unique individuals.

His master being one of those people, but she wasn't... an Emanator. Surprisingly enough, I had already confirmed months ago that I was the only Emanator in Teyvat. A circumstance that may change soon as I had felt a disturbance in the Elation but... for now, I was intending to keep my anonymity wherever it was possible.

"I guess that means the warning will now be extended to Morax if this is the case. He can play the retired old fart however he wants, but when it comes to this point, I will go as far as it is needed to prevent a long-term disaster for the entire world," I argued dryly, walking up to Childe as he tried to find back his 'footing'. "By the way, if you think Skirk was a menace, be sure to know that her Quantum element pales before the power of an Emanator. And next time you try to play cocky with me, understand I may have a fewpranksto use against you. Ciao!"

And I was off.

No further words were to be exchanged, and I knew I had wasted enough time with this idiot as I had to turn back to the little ones before they realized I was missing. Again. And they demanded to be pampered in return. I had already felt a stab into my wallet organ, I didn't need to feel that once again anytime soon. So, I bolted back to the inn room to check on the kiddos and then offer them the plans for today-

"Kids, we are going to see some coffins! Who wanna get one?"

From the terrified screams from Lumine and Paimon, Durin seems to be the only one interested to get one. How sad!

Next time, we terrorize the local elderly. Also, we entertain Yanfei's little sister and Hu Tao's obsession with a game of 'who wants to blow up a few mountains'?

As for why I think Skirk is not an Emanator is due to the fact she doesn't show any signs of being a proper Emanator. I can say she is Quantum with a degree of Nihility there. She just gives off some Acheron vibes.
