For a few moments, as the battle drew to its ultimate conclusion, there was silence all around us.
Whether it was shock, awe, or just plain old confusion I couldn't be sure entirely, nor did I really care. My attention actually was more on the gleaming pokeball in my palm.
A proud smile on my face.
"Way to go mate." I praised the try hard bird within. We hadn't won, not even close, and Lance had obviously been taking it easy on us. We are nowhere near the level of a champion.
But let me put it like this. If an average Caterpie knew Electroweb and fired it off at Pidgeot, it would hardly do anything to him, even with him being weak to electric attacks.
It was simply because of how much more powerful Pidgeot was, he was on a completely different level. Though not something as arbitrary as simply numerical levels.
Why think this? Because, while Pidgeot and my other pokemon weren't even close to the level of Lance's, they were at a level where they could actually hurt them.
A level that simply could not be ignored even by the strongest.
And that in of itself was an achievement as far as I'm concerned. After all, one only had to look at Paul's battle with Cynthia to understand. Even as someone on Ash's level at Sinnoh, and with quite the strategy prepared, Paul fell short simply because Cynthia's Garchomp was so far above his pokemon in level that it didn't even matter that Garchomp was locked in place and took a full on Frenzy Plant from Paul's starter pokemon to the face.
It did fuck all.
The fact Pidgeot and my other pokemon simply couldn't be brushed off like that, told me we were on the right path, or a right path at least.
And that was amazing to me.
Clapping drew me from my thoughts and I looked up to see Lance boldly walking across the decimated battlefield towards me, his cape mantle swishing majestically from his shoulders as he did, clapping loudly and proudly, a big grin on his face, "That was a splendid battle Jord!" his voice boomed out from his lips, "Give it a few years and you're going to be a real monster." he praised me as he came to a stop in front of me and stopped clapping to hold one hand out to me.
I took it, shaking his hand, "Gimme six months." I grinned back.
Lance barked out a laugh, "Well considering your progress so far in only two, another three times that….well, you might be right!"
Before I could say anything else, the crowd of reporters erupted into a frenzy of cheers and questions.
"Champion Lance, how is it a trainer so early into his career has managed to take down two of your own esteemed pokemon!?"
"Jord, how do you train your pokemon for them to be so powerful!?"
"Champion Lance, is this perhaps you deciding to take on an apprentice for the first time?"
"Jord, there was a big focus on your love life during this battle, care to comment? What about this mysterious girl you are involved with caught your attention?"
Lance rolled his eyes at the last comment as we finished shaking hands, but I personally felt a smirk spread across my face.
Lance's eyebrows rose as I turned away from him and looked at the reporter who had asked that last question, it was that guy from Kanto News, "The first thing that caught my attention about her, can't really be said during this kind of interview, never mind live I don't think." I shrugged.
After all, the first thing that I noticed about Hilda had been that big ol' badonkadonk of hers.
"Yes, it's best not to go into detail on that part." Lance snorted in amusement, crossing his arms
The reporter from Kanto News blinked owlishly at me for a moment, before his eyes widened in understanding, "Ah…I see," he coughed, "Okay…then how about defining features that can be commented on, perhaps her personality? Surely this mystery girl must be quite astounding to catch the eye of one such as you, a rising star!"
"I'm a rising star?" I asked with a blink, looking to Lance.
"Well, you will be now, with your big debut here your name is gonna be on everybody's lips for at least the next few days, and you're gonna have a ton of eyes on you with what you've accomplished and how well you did in our battle," Lance shrugged, "Usually something like this would be more gradual, but you've kinda just exploded onto the scene."
"Huh, neat," I nodded in understand before turning my attention back to the reporter from Kanto News, "So other things about her I liked then? Well I mean beyond the obvious, she has really pretty eyes, a bright vibrant blue and her hair is like fluffy chocolate. And then there was the banter, she's great at that."
Let me see how much I can embarrass Hilda.
…Granted, it probably won't be all that much considering she's a former actress and would be used to stuff like this.
From there I went into a long tangent of bullshit about things I liked about Hilda, and some more that just popped into my head for shits and giggles.
"I see….could it be that you have already found the one you want to settle down with already?" the reporter asked, his cheeks flushed.
I think he's feeling a little embarrassed now to have had me go into this crap. Poor guy, this is why shame is useless.
"Well I'm still single for the moment, but that's for me to know mate, and you-" I looked him in the eyes and grinned at him, "To dot dot dot."
"I see." was all the man said in response.
I think he was flustered.
"Jord, is there anything else you'd like to say aloud at this moment? Your plans going forward, what your aims are? Anything?" another reporter jumped in, this one with a cameraman right behind her.
I was about to say no, when a thought appeared in my head and a wide smirk spread across my face.
"Well, there is one last thing I'd like to say," I nodded and pointed straight at the camera, "Hey Cross, you're watching aren't you? How'd you like my Charizard? Feeling like an idiot now after you tossed him away for thinking he was weak? Just goes to show how amazing he actually is when trained by somebody who isn't a complete scrub like you."
And with that said, I closed down any other attempts at questioning me by turning on my heel and making my way towards the pokemon centre.
My job here is done.
I showed how amazing me and my pokemon are, I hopefully embarrassed Hilda and I insulted Cross on live television being broadcasted to the entire world.
Truly my genius is astounding.
"Well, that's one way to end an interview," Lance commented as he followed me inside the pokemon center and I was actually astounded by my how empty it was, "Who is this Cross exactly?"
"Just a scrub," I shrugged and turned to him now that we were in the much quiet lobby of the pokemon center, "I actually ran into him when I got into Cerulean City and just before I met Hilda, he was a jackass that thought he was hot shit and tossed away his Charmander after I beat him in a battle using my Beedrill. Course I then caught the Charmander who is now my Charizard."
Lance clicked his tongue, "Sadly those types are while not common, not exactly rare either, fools that only see a pokemon for their current strength and ability and none of the patience required to properly raise them," he shook his head, "Though, blasting him on live television like that probably wasn't the most mature choice."
"Can't be helped, I'm a young brat after all, not even as old as most trainers are when starting out," I beamed brightly and innocently at him, "I simply don't know what I'm doing, I'm not mature yet after all."
"And I completely believe you," Lance nodded, snorting. He totally didn't, "Well it's not like you gave out his ID or anything, just his first name so there shouldn't be any harm. Moving on though, now that our battle has finished, let's finalize the deal over purchasing Aerodactyl's from you."
Mmm, yes.
Through the time we'd spent battling, I'd had plenty of time to finalize my thoughts on Lance and his clans offers and on my demands, "Beyond the first at a hundred million, I'm restricting your clan from breeding them for ten years," I stated, "So any others you purchase will be at forty million."
"Hmm, ten years huh?" Lance mused, stroking his chin and nodding, "A period of time that will be well enough for you to go down in the history books as the first owner of an Aerodactyl and the one that bred the species back into existence."
"That and I'll be widely known as the only person people can get the pokemon from over that period of time," I pointed out, "That's a lot of prestige to my name."
"True, though there will be those angry at you for it, for limiting the amount that can be bred and making it harder for others to get an Aerodactyl." Lance pointed out.
"Haters gonna hate, and most of them will just be common basement dwellers anyway," I snorted, "There's always gonna be people that hate you for being better than them and putting in effort to rise up the ladder and better yourself when they can't be bothered to do it themselves. Just entitled sad little shits."
"Well, you're not wrong I suppose, just odd you already understand that at your age, but then nothing about your achievements at your age make sense, so not worth thinking on," Lance shrugged, "Either way, those terms are acceptable, now we just need to find what pokemon can actually breed with Aerodactyl."
"No need to worry," I stole the famous line of an amazing bluenette, and best girl before I met Hilda, "I already know a bunch of pokemon Aerodactyl is compatible with. Honestly, it might actually have been fate that you turned up here to give me the offer, because you're one of the best bets for Aerodactyl's kids to be born even stronger."
And presented me with an opportunity.
"Oh?" Lance raised an eyebrow with interest, "I won't ask how you know, but the way you said that is telling enough. So Aerodactyl are compatible with some dragons then?"
"Yup," I bared my teeth happily as I crossed my arms and nodded my head, "Which leads me to my last demand.
Something you have a better chance of providing than anyone else. I want a strong Noivern or Altaria, preferably one that has had some training from you."
"A strong female Altaria or Noivern then, huh?" Lance mused, "I understand your thought process. Not only would you be getting a strong pokemon out of this, but it would ensure the baby Aerodactyl are born even stronger."
He cupped his chin for a moment, before nodding, "Fair enough, this works to both our benefits as well, it speeds up the time needed to find a compatible female and the starting point of the infants," Lance said aloud, "I've got a few of both species that aren't a part of my main team that I've been training up on the side, which would you prefer?"
Huh, as expected of the dragon master himself.
….Damn what one should I go for then? Altaria had a mega form and would turn fairy then and would be a good counter for other dragons and fighting types and such. But Noivern are amazing themselves as well, those sonar abilities could come in really handy.
But, I have to admit I was always more partial to Noivern. But if you get an Altaria it totally has to be female right? Aesthetics are important!
…As it is though, Noivern are pure dragon and flying types, which I already have covered with Dragonite. Altaria sheds the flying type when they mega evolve.
And yeah call me sexist, but if I have an Altaria, it needs to be female. Same way a Gardevoir does or a Sylveon.
"Let's go with Altaria." I decided with a shrug after a few moments of thought. Either way, it was going to be a powerful dragon type trained by Lance himself, a champion.
Me wanting one wasn't just for breeding with Aerodactyl. But the simple fact that, a powerful pokemon from Lance, would be perfect for Pidgeot and my other pokemon to train against to fight a high level opponent on the regular and increase their experience fighting at that level and enhance the speed of their growth.
One must always get the most they can out of any singular situation as far as I'm concerned.
The thing about pokemon that I've noticed over my time here, is that the more intense the training and the more powerful the opponents they face off against, the quicker they grow.
It was why for instance my Golbat was capable of hanging in against the members of my squad who I'd been training for quite a bit longer than him. When I first caught him, he was easily crushed by Raticate, yet by time I sent him here to Viridian City, he was actually capable of putting up a fight against the others like Fearow.
Or take Dragonite for instance. When he battled Aerodactyl, he was overwhelmed completely and only his sheer stubbornness kept him from being taken down easily and kept getting him back up on his feet to fight. Yet, the experience of that battle, then going through a gravity training session and being healed by Blissey, had him nearly on par with Aerodactyl during the free for all sparring battle I had between them after that.
Admittedly, such types of training were even better suited for dragon types, but as a whole all pokemon seemed to be somewhat like saiyans in that regard, the more intense training they went through and the stronger the opponents they fought, the stronger they became in a short amount of time.
This also led into my theory on how Ash's newer pokemon rose in strength so quickly in the original world, putting aside the later generations that were a shit show, Ash and Pikachu had a steady growth through Kanto to Sinnoh, so his newer pokemon even when he started over with just Pikachu, had that powerhouse of a mouse to constantly train with, which allowed them to rise quickly and just why shit like a Treecko that only knew Quick attack and Pound could fight a freaking Hariyama head on when Ash battled Brawly.
"Altaria, huh?" Lance mused and tapped his chin in thought for a moment, before a wide grin spread across his face, "I've got just the one in mind, she should fit the bill."
"Oh?" I blinked, "Is she strong then?" I asked, though that kind of went without saying seeing as it's one of Lance's pokemon. How strong is the question though.
"Very, she's the second strongest of my Altaria, I've got seven of them," Lance flashed me a thumbs up, "I caught her two years back when I was on a trip to Hoenn, she was a little thing back then that got kicked out of her flock for trying to battle for the leadership of it and chafes a bit with me because she isn't as strong as my first Altaria."
Lance looked around for a moment before leaning down to me, "Between you and me, she's not far off of same level as Lorelei's ace Lapras and is quite big for an Altaria," he said lowly as if confiding a great big secret, "I actually bred her with one of my clansmen's Sceptile last year, the Treecko born from it turned out to be quite robust and is already a Sceptile. Give it a year and it might reach a level strong enough to be on my main team."
…Huh.
My eyes widened as I processed that information. If what he said was truth, then this Altaria he was going to give me to breed with Aerodactyl, was definitively on the level of the Elite Four.
Which meant it was a complete powerhouse. No, beyond a mere powerhouse. After all, that battle with Lance was enough to tell me, not even Pidgeot was on that level yet.
Perfect.
But-
"Is that alright?" I asked, raising an eyebrow, "I know I was wanting a strong pokemon, but one like that? And you're fine with just giving her to me?"
"Truth be told, normally such a thing would be completely off the table, Aerodactyl or not," Lance shrugged, "But from what I've seen, you have what it takes to control a pokemon of that level and I know from how you treated your pokemon that you'll take care of her. Besides, while she gets on with most of my pokemon, she doesn't like my main Altaria at all, she chafes under it and feels like she's playing second fiddle to another of her same species."
Well, that was understandable I suppose. It was jarring enough for most people to not be the first pick when it came to things they put a massive amount of effort into, but being the second pick to another near complete same as you beyond even that, must have hit the pride something fierce.
A lot of people thought having a lot of pride in yourself and your abilities was a bad thing, I don't. Pride is important. And I personally would be rightfully pissed off, maybe even resentful of having my pride repeatedly stepped on.
"Alright then, I can work with that," I grinned, "Tell me about her though. What kind of food does she like? What things does she like in general? My Clefable for instance loves learning about stories of the past and legendary pokemon like Rayquaza."
"She's a bit of a glutton actually, she'll eat anything edible you put down in front of her," Lance laughed, "Hobby wise she's pretty simple, beyond battling and eating, she likes singing, though sometimes has a bad habit of putting others to sleep without realising it and-"
Lance was cut off the by doors to the Pokemon Centre opening up and quite the large group making their way into the building. Nurse Joy at the front had an exhausted look on her face and she was followed by Professor Oak and Cerise who were practically vibrating with beaming smiles, trailing right behind them was Delia Ketchum who was chatting away happily to Chloe Cerise and at the back were the presences of an impassive faced Giovanni and Surge who met his eyes, before looking away, an uncomfortable look on his face.
"Can't you ever do anything without causing me more work?" Nurse Joy asked in annoyance.
"My bad?" I offered lamely. It wasn't like I was expecting all this general hubbub when I was making my way here. I just took advantage of it for my own benefit. Like I do a lot of things.
She rolled her eyes and shook her head, "Well whatever, you're here now at least, and hopefully won't cause anymore incidents like this, for a while at least."
"I'll try my best." I laughed.
"No he won't, he had fun," Lance snorted. He looked me in the eye, "I've got your contact details and we've hashed this deal out, so I'll be heading out now, I'll get in contact with you later tonight once I make arrangements on my side."
"Leaving already Lance?" Oak asked, "I was actually hoping to pick your brain about young Jord's Aerodactyl if you had the time."
"Sorry Professor Oak, everyone," Lance cast an apologetic look around at the gathered people, "Unfortunately, freeing up any more time than this is quite troublesome, I only managed this because it was such a grand occasion."
"Well, being the champion of two regions, dealing with your clan duties and being a G-man, it's no wonder," Giovanni spoke up, voice clipped, a faint smirk was spread across his face, "Perhaps its time you cut down on some of those duties, I'm sure if you were to be the champion of only one region your schedule would be opened up quite a bit."
There was something to how he spoke to Lance that I couldn't put a finger on. While his tone was clipped, it was polite.
But I couldn't shake the feeling that there was disdain for Lance in his words.
"I'll be happy to do so when someone strong enough comes along," Lance just smiled pleasantly at the gym leaders words, "Always a pleasure Giovanni, I'll be looking forward to your next attempt to challenge me, I'm sure Lorelei will love another battle with you."
Giovanni's eyes narrowed ever so slightly and if I wasn't paying attention to him as he did, I would have definitely missed it, "Quite." was all he said in response.
Lance's smile widened a bit and he dipped his head to me, "I'll see you later Jord." he said, clapping me on the shoulder, before moving, and with a regal, powerful gait, he made his way towards the building's entrance, his cape billowing gracefully over his shoulders.
A moment later, he disappeared through the doors and all attention returned to me, "Uh…" I trailed off, "What's up?" I greeted them.
"Hey Cross, you're watching aren't you? How'd you like my Charizard? Feeling like an idiot now after you tossed him away for thinking he was weak? Just goes to show how amazing he actually is when trained by somebody who isn't a complete scrub like you."
His teeth grit together so hard an audible grinding noise echoed out of his mouth. 'That little fucking bastard!' Cross dug his nails into the table he was sitting at within a local trainer bar in Celadon City.
He was fresh off defeating that annoying bitch Erika and claiming his sixth badge. It was a complete stomp in his favour. Between his Incineroar, his Skarmory and the Blaziken he'd sunk a lot of money into purchasing after he got rid of that useless Charmander, Erika and her grass types hadn't stood a chance.
Two more badges were all he needed and he would qualify for the Indigo League with over six months to spare.
Only as soon as he walked into the bar and found a seat, a breaking news report had been broadcasted over the main television of the bar.
And to his shock, it was that little bastard that he met at Cerulean City, who had shown him how useless that Charmander of his really was in the end even after he'd sunk multiple Tm's into the little waste of space.
And he was battling Lance!
And he…didn't get completely obliterated. He managed to take down two of Lance's pokemon even! His mind kept repeating one part of the battle, of a Charizard facing off against that absolute monster of a Hydreigon.
As much as it galled him to acknowledge, none of his pokemon could have done what it did. It was stronger even than his Incineroar.
That….was that useless little Charmander? It had only been a bit over a month! How was it a Charizard already, how had it become so strong so quickly!?
Scrub.
Scrub.
Scrub.
It echoed in his head, that cocky little bastard insulting him, and humiliation spread through him as he heard people in the trainer bar wonder who 'Cross' was, and heard insults flow, derisively mocking him for giving up such a pokemon.
…Bastards! What did they know!? He'd trained that damn thing for two months, loaded it up with Tm's even and it couldn't even beat a freaking Beedrill!
That kid, he cheated! He didn't know how, but he was totally cheating somehow, there was no way his pokemon grew that strong so quickly and easily!
'Fuck you!' Cross bit out internally, 'Call me a scrub!? Just wait till the Indigo League kid, I'll show you who the real scrub is, I'll show everyone and make you get on your god damn knees and beg for mercy while my pokemon crush yours!'
"Oh Hilda, your hair is like fluffy chocolate, and your eyes such a sparking blue!"
Hilda, face in her hands and cheeks burning did her level best to ignore her cousin dramatically and mockingly repeating the words that had echoed through the television just moments ago, her cheeks burning an absolute red.
"There is no girl who can banter like you my sweet oh lovely Hilda!" Rosa, on one knee gestured with one hand up to her from the floor, palm out as if she were the main character of a play and proclaiming his love for a fair maiden, "Please won't you banter with me forever my sweet pretty Hilda."
….All the while in nothing but a set of skimpy pink underwear.
Rosa couldn't hold it much longer and exploded into laughter, "Holy crap cuz, I can't believe you got him to the point where he's willing to say crap like that about you on live television, to the entire world, yet still claim he's single and open for fun," she pointed out, voice full of hilarity as she rose to her feet, "Women around the world who want to get their claws in him now are praising you right now for being a moron."
Huffing, Hilda pulled her face from her hands, cheeks still red and glared at her cousin, "You mean ones like you?" she asked deadpan, "And do remember who it is I came to help after she got her pokemon stolen and had to leave him behind for."
"I never said you had to leave him behind though, that was all you cuz," Rosa shrugged unrepentantly, "And yep, just like me. Thanks for not sealing the deal, I'll be sure to thank you especially at our wedding when I stake a proper claim."
Hilda's eyebrow twitched, "Oh please, you're side girl material at best," she scoffed back, "I didn't see him singing your praises live after all."
"That's fine too," Rosa shrugged with a grin, "Didn't know you were that kinky though cuz to be wanting a threesome with me and your boytoy. Cradle robber, bi and incestious on top? Just damn."
"…I will kill you, seriously." Hilda's second eyebrow joined the first in twitching in pure annoyance.
Nobody could annoy her quite like her cousin could.
"Snuff stuff as well!?" Rosa mock gasped, eyes widening in 'shock'.
"That's it!" Hilda's patience snapped and she launched herself off the couch she was sitting on and tackling her near naked cousin to the ground.
"You like it rough too huh?" Rosa only continued to laugh even as they rolled around wrestling atop the living room floor.

Here we are back with the four to the zero, big ol' chapter forty. Every ten chapters is a little mini milestone in my book, and just ten more until breaking fifty, yay fifty!
And with this, the Lance introduction officially comes to an end and Poke-Chad- I mean Poke-Jord will now officially meet Oak, Delia, Cerise, Chloe, Giovanni and have a little heartfelt reunion with Surge, cuz they're such bros and all. This chapter more or less brings 'season 1' as it were of Jordinio Version to a close. And soon, after 2-3 chapters at most into 'season 2' we'll be jumping regions for a bit, and we'll be doing some neat travelling. Not just to Kalos, no, but the Orange Islands, Galar, Paldea and Kalos. Beyond Kalos, the others will get a chapter or two to them at most I';m thinking, maybe a little bit more in Paldea's case before we get to Kalos.
Well anyway, I'm gonna end things here for now, it's my birthday today, just turned 30 and I'm kinda busy. If you wanna read my work ahead, you can check it out in advance on my Pa-atreon, and in fact, I'll be working on this tonight. See ya!
Anyway, again, shameless Pa-atreon plug. I've got one, go by the same username on there, easy to find and all that jazz. Support me if you want, it'd be swell, but don't feel pressured lads and ladies, I'll be uploading my stuff outside it regardless and not keeping it all behind a paywall or anything like that.
