28. Omake: The Will of One

Suzaku stepped up on stage before an excited crowd of onlookers, taking his place at a microphone stand as a guitar started to ring out through the stadium.

"I have seen this city a thousand times..."

"Through the glass twenty stories high, I have watched this city burn! If everything that you said is true," he defiantly sang, "then there's no hope someday they will learn - but if I stay here with you? Then I will never know the truth!"

At that moment, a bitter and frustrated whisper carried through the populace, held aloft by the very same melody.

"Do not say this is how it has to be..."

Stepping right past Suzaku without looking at him, Lelouch picked up a microphone on the other end of the stage to address the other half of the crowd. "And as I walk through the city streets, these frightened people watching me pass... There is an evil that holds them here, and they can't break free of its grasp - but if I stay here with you? Then I will leave them to their doom!"

"Do not say this is how it has to be," Suzaku all but begged, only for Lelouch to turn and snap at him with a pointed finger. "You do no better than the fools of this burning city!"

As the sons of fate began to stare each other down, a pair of voices softly echoed along with the music.

"You have heard me tell this story," Euphemia said, her voice soothing as can be. "Many times before you sleep..."

"Even here it is not safe," Nunnally sadly whispered. "Even this grave has been defaced..."

While Suzaku and Lelouch braced themselves on the stage, the princesses continued to speak past each other.

"No matter how dark this city gets," Euphemia began.

"Someone has written on this stone..."

A lonely grave, the name of its owner hidden on the opposite side.

"Even now, there is hope for man."

Nunnally finished, "In some angry hand-"

Suzaku turned to Lelouch in a rage! "HOPE RIDES ALOOOOOOOOOONE!"

Brandishing his microphone stand like a sword, Lelouch disappeared as Zero took his place! "HOPE RIDES! ALOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!"

Their mic stands locking together in a vicious struggle, two Knights - one Black, one White - clashed their ideals against each other with a furious roar!

"HOPE RIIIDES! ALLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!"

The stands quickly shattered, Suzaku and Zero sliding past each other! "If you say this is how it has to be," Zero warned, "you do no better than the fools of this burning city!"

"And as I live," Suzaku swore, "there is no evil that will stand!"

Eyes lighting up with Geass, each let out a mirrored vow that shook the very Earth beneath them!

"AND I WILL FINISH! WHAT WAS STARTED! THE FIGHT OF PROOOTOOOMAAAN!"

All hell broke loose as the stadium collapsed, revealing gathering armies on all sides as a series of dueling chants broke out...

From Celestial Being: "WE KEEP YOU SAFE!"

From Zero's forces: "WE ARE YOUR HOPE!"

"WE HAVE CONTROL!"

In the darkness above, a pair of detached Geass eyes looked down with contempt on all below. "WE. ARE. IN. CONTROL."
