Hello guys, I know you were waiting for the next chapter to find out what Ash was doing. Maybe some of you didn't like how Ash was with another girl, breaking Chloe's heart. However, there are two sides to every story, and it's time for you to know Ash's side.
The title of this chapter is based on the name of my favorite song, because of its meaning and because it reflects a love I once lived myself. (The crow and the butterfly. From Shinedown)
Chapter 17: The Murkrow and the Beautifly.
"Sounds good! Have fun, and I'll catch up with you both later." With that, he quickly left, disappearing down the street, leaving Chloe standing there, watching him go.
Ash kept walking without looking back, moving between a run and a fast walk, as if trying to show he was in a hurry—but no one was following him. Only Pikachu, who was already finding his trainer's behavior very strange.
As he walked, Ash was thinking about the conversation he had just had on his Rotom Phone.
"I heard you're here. I'd like to see you. :3"
It was short, simple, but enough to make his heart race. He knew who it was from the moment he read it. He hadn't expected to hear from her—not here, not now.
Pikachu let out a small "Pika?" as he hurried to keep up with Ash, his trainer's tense expression not going unnoticed.
Ash sighed, shoving the phone into his pocket. He couldn't ignore this message. Not after everything that had happened between them.
Ash knew he had to take this opportunity to see her. There were so many things left unsaid, and after what happened more than three years ago, he knew it was time to find out if what he felt was real or not.
So, he walked toward the boulevard and waited to take a Gogoat Taxi to the place where they had agreed to meet.
As Ash headed toward the city's art district, the Gogoat Taxi driver turned on the radio to listen to some music. When Ash got in, the driver tried to start a conversation with the young man from Kanto, but with everything going on in his head, he wasn't in the mood to socialize.
Ash simply stared at the road, lost in his thoughts. He remembered everything he had experienced in the Kalos region, his friends, his challenges, his victories, his defeats, and those moments that had shaped him as a trainer.
Kalos had been a special adventure, not just because of his near victory in the Pokémon League, but because of the friends he made, the Pokémon he met, and that moment at the airport—one that had changed him a little, even if he hadn't realized it at the time.
As the ride in the Gogoat Taxi continued, the radio station played another message.
"We're back, my beautiful people of Kalos! Remember, today we have a festival at Centric Plaza featuring the hottest artist of the moment. But for now, let's go with another hit song. This one carries an important message—that in life, there are people who will always cross your path, but it's not always up to you to reach them. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have."
(I highly recommend listening to the song "The Crow and the Butterfly by Shinedown.)
Ash barely registered the words coming from the radio, but something about the message stuck with him.
"There are people who will always cross your path, but it's not always up to you to reach them."
He let out a quiet sigh, leaning back slightly as he watched the city pass by. The streets of Kalos were as lively and elegant as he remembered, but right now, all he could focus on was the uncertainty in his chest.
Pikachu, sitting beside him, twitched his ears as the song began to play.
"I painted your room at midnight, so I'd know yesterday was over…"
So I'd know yesterday was over
I put all your books on the top shelf
Even the one with the four-leaf clover
Man, I'm gettin' older
As the song began, Ash paid more attention to the melody. It was a sad melody, but it was the kind of music he liked—melancholic.
I took all your pictures off the wall
And wrapped them in a newspaper blanket
I haven't slept in what seems like a century
And now I can barely breathe.
Just like a Murkrow chasing the beautifly
Eldegust lost in the summer sky
When you and I were gettin' high as outer space
I never thought you'd slip away
I guess I was just a little too late
Your words still serenade me
Your lullabies won't let me sleep
Upon hearing the chorus of the song, he felt as if something had resonated in his head. He began to identify with what he was experiencing. She had been someone he had met in his past; life had brought them back together to share experiences and dreams, but life had also taken matters into its own hands to separate them. At that moment, he didn't truly know what he felt. But now, life had given them another chance to see each other and resolve things.
Besides being a ballad with a good rhythm, he started to enjoy the song as the Gogoat taxi continued taking him to his stop.
I've never heard such a haunting melody
Oh, it's killin' me
You know I can barely breathe
Just like a Murkrow chasing the beautifly
Eldegust lost in the summer sky
When you and I were gettin' high as outer space
I never thought you'd slip away
I guess I was just a little too late
Ash had arrived at a spacious plaza, a lively park where children ran around laughing, couples strolled hand in hand, and families gathered for picnics under the shade of tall trees.
He pulled out his Rotom Phone and checked the address once more, ensuring he was in the right place. A small bridge caught his eye, arching over a gentle stream. It seemed like a good place to wait. As he approached, he leaned against the wooden railing, watching the water flow beneath him. He could feel the anticipation building inside him.
Little by little, as he waited, he began to grow more nervous. His mind was racing with possibilities, each one more unsettling than the last. What if things didn't go as he hoped? What if she no longer felt the same way? What if she had already moved on, forgotten everything they had shared?
His fingers tapped anxiously against the railing of the bridge as doubt crept into his thoughts. Had too much time passed? People change, feelings fade, what if he was holding onto something that no longer existed? The idea sent a chill down his spine.
Lost in his thoughts, he listened to the sounds of the park, the rustling of leaves, the distant chatter, and the occasional flutter of Fletchings taking flight. Now, all he had to do was wait.
Suddenly, he felt a pair of hands reach toward his face, covering his eyes. Under normal circumstances, Ash would have reacted quickly to avoid being caught off guard, but he knew exactly who it was. The softness of her hands gave her away.
A wave of emotion washed over him as he realized who it was. A warm, comforting feeling spread through his chest, filling him with a sense of familiarity and joy.
"I don't remember you being this tall, you know," a sweet voice whispered in his ear.
"Well, I had to grow up at some point, don't you think?" Ash replied before turning around, trying to sound interesting.
As he turned around, she was standing right in front of him. Without a doubt, she had changed—for the better.
Her blonde hair was still short but neatly styled. She now wore a black outfit paired with a red-and-white skirt, brown boots, and a different hat. But that wasn't what caught his attention the most.
She now had a slender yet firm figure, and it was clear that her feminine features had developed over the years. She was a woman now, just as he had grown into a man—they were the same age, after all.
But what truly captivated him were her blue eyes.
He had known them since they were kids, had looked into them countless times before, but now… now they felt different. There was something about them that made him feel almost vulnerable.
"Hi," she greeted him, trying to sound as normal as possible, but she radiated the same nervous energy as he did.
Ash took a brief breath before responding. "Hi, Serena."
Minutes had passed, yet they had barely spoken. It wasn't that there was tension or awkwardness, but Ash genuinely didn't know what to say. He had faced danger countless times before, yet being alone with Serena made him more nervous than any battle ever had.
They simply watched the park in silence, both searching for the right words.
"Hey… tell me, uh… how have you been?" Ash asked, almost stumbling over his words.
Serena immediately noticed. She hadn't expected him to be this nervous, it was as if their roles had reversed. Now, he was acting just like she had done during their journey in Kalos three years ago.
Serena couldn't help but smile softly at the realization. It was almost ironic back then, she was the one struggling to find the right words around him, always flustered by his presence. But now, the nervous one was Ash.
"I've been doing well," she finally answered, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "A lot has happened since we last saw each other."
Ash nodded, still unsure how to carry the conversation. He wanted to ask her so many things, where she had been, what she had been doing, if she had missed him, but the words felt stuck in his throat. Instead, he simply said, "Yeah… I figured."
Serena glanced at him, noticing how much he had changed. He was taller, there was maturity in his expression, a quiet confidence mixed with the nervousness he was currently feeling. Yet, at his core, he was still the same Ash she had admired for so long.
Deciding to ease the tension, she let out a small chuckle. "You know, I thought you'd be a little more composed. You've battled Legendary Pokémon, saved entire regions… but now you look like you don't know what to do with yourself."
Ash blinked, caught off guard, then let out a sheepish laugh. "Yeah, well… this is different."
Serena tilted her head playfully. "Oh? And how exactly is this different?"
Ash opened his mouth to answer but hesitated. He wasn't even sure how to put it into words. Instead, he scratched the back of his head and looked away. "I… I don't know. It just is."
Serena decided to be a bit bolder and stepped closer to Ash. She gently took his arm and rested her head against his shoulder.
Ash felt his face heat up instantly, his heart pounding as he realized just how close she was. He didn't understand how his friend could make him feel so many things at once.
"I think it is different… but I feel like I want to figure it out," she whispered in his ear, her voice barely more than a breath.
Their faces were so close now. Ash could feel his heart beating even faster, each thump echoing in his chest with overwhelming intensity.
Ash, like with all challenges, decided to face it head-on. He pushed aside his nerves, or at least tried to, and focused on seeing Serena as he always had, his friend. But maybe, just maybe, he could allow himself to embrace these gestures of affection.
Ash adjusted himself and put his arm around Serena. She noticed the shift in his behavior and looked at him curiously, wondering what he would do next.
"You know, I think I feel the same," he said.
Serena smiled warmly. "Alright, how about we take a walk around the city? I don't think we've ever explored it together." She suggested.
When Ash heard her, he remembered that he had made the same promise to Chloe. He felt a bit guilty for not keeping his word. However, he had decided when he came to see Serena.
"Sure, why not?" Ash replied. Serena took his hand, and they started walking together.
For this part, I recommend listening to the song "Steal the Show" from the Elementals soundtrack.
Started out on a one-way train
Always knew where I was gonna go next
Didn't know until I saw your face
I was missin' out on every moment
You'll be one and baby, I'll be two
Would you mind it if I said I'm into you? (I'm into you)
Serena's laughter was like music to Ash's ears, and the joy she radiated seemed to make everything around them feel brighter. She was genuinely happy, as if this moment was everything she had been waiting for, and Ash couldn't help but feel the same.
As they passed through one store and then another, Serena's eyes sparkled with excitement as she pointed out cute trinkets and clothes. Ash, on the other hand, simply enjoyed being by her side, happy to share in her enthusiasm, even if he wasn't the best at window shopping.
Then, without warning, Serena's hand slowly moved toward him. Ash could feel her intention before she even made the move.
He hesitated for just a second, but only for a second. Then, with a warm smile, he gently reached for her hand, intertwining their fingers.
The simple act made Serena's smile widen even more, and Ash's heart skipped a beat. It wasn't a huge gesture, but it felt like everything at that moment. The connection between them was undeniable. They didn't need words to understand each other, not when a simple touch said it all.
Serena looked at him, her face glowing with happiness, as they continued their walk through the district, hands held tightly together. For both of them, this felt like the start of something new, something that had been waiting to happen for a long time.
So if it's real
Then darlin', let me know
I wouldn't mind
If you steal the show
They had stopped at an ice cream stand; the heat was intense, so Ash bought an ice cream for Serena, who happily accepted it.
Ash loved seeing her smile, she laughed in a way that could captivate anyone who heard it. Wanting to tease her a little, he playfully smeared a bit of his ice cream on her nose.
Ash burst into laughter at the sight, but he didn't expect Serena to take advantage of the moment and smear her own ice cream on his face.
As Ash wiped his face, Serena laughed uncontrollably, joined by Pikachu, who found the whole situation just as hilarious.
You and I, we go together
You're the sky, I'll be the weather
A pretty thing, the sun and rain, who knew?
Oh, whoa, yeah
Summer night, perfect occasion
Where am I? You know I'll be waitin' for you
Oh, for you
Now, they found themselves at a bike rental stand. Ash had noticed that many people enjoyed exploring the city by bike, so he had planned to take a ride around town.
However, Serena had other plans. She called out to him, and when he turned around, he realized she had already chosen her ride.
Before he knew it, Ash was riding on a scooter at full speed alongside Serena, who was in control. Pikachu had taken a spot at the front, happily enjoying the ride, while Ash, as the passenger, had no choice but to hold onto Serena tightly to avoid falling off.
Serena, of course, loved going fast.
So if it's real
Then darlin', let me know
I wouldn't mind
If you steal the show
So if it's real
Then darlin', let me know
I wouldn't mind
If you steal the show
After a high-speed, adrenaline-filled ride, they stopped at one of the most beautiful parks in the city. They walked peacefully together until they reached a small pond.
Ash began tossing breadcrumbs to a group of Duckletts, and as they fed the Pokémon, they exchanged smiles and chatted.
Suddenly, one of Ash's Poké Balls popped open.
Without a second thought, Dracovish leaped straight into the pond, splashing water everywhere and soaking everyone around.
Ash braced himself, thinking Serena might get upset, but instead, she burst into laughter at the fossil Pokémon's goofy antics.
Seeing her laugh so freely, Ash couldn't help but laugh along with her.
You shine, you shine
Like forever lasts forever
You shine, you shine
And steal the show
Some trainers challenged Ash after noticing his high ranking in the World Coronation Series.
Without hesitation, Ash was ready to accept the challenge, but Serena stepped in and suggested they battle as a team.
Ash was thrilled to see that she still had that fighting spirit.
Wasting no time, Ash sent out his Lucario, ready for battle. Meanwhile, Serena called upon her most loyal partner. She tossed her Poké Ball, releasing her Delphox.
Ash and Pikachu were excited to see that it had evolved, but Lucario, who had never seen a Delphox before, was caught off guard.
He wouldn't admit it, but he was impressed by the elegant Fire-type. Delphox noticed this and playfully winked at him.
Lucario, trying to shake it off, quickly refocused on the battle ahead.
Lucario instinctively prepared to dodge, but before he could move, Delphox stepped forward, taking the initiative. With a graceful motion, it twirled its wand-like branch, summoning a swirling vortex of flames, Fire Spin. The spiraling inferno expanded, forming a fiery barrier that incinerated the incoming Bullet Seed on impact, reducing them to harmless embers.
Ash was momentarily surprised but quickly recognized Serena's strategy. This wasn't just a regular Fire Spin. Delphox had perfected this move from her contest performances, turning it into both a defensive shield and an elegant display of power.
Lucario wasn't about to waste the opportunity. Using the cover of the flames, he charged up a glowing blue Aura Sphere between his paws. With a swift, precise motion, he hurled the energy sphere straight through the fire, the attack emerging from the other side like a shooting star aimed directly at Simisage.
The enemy Medicham dashed forward, its fist glowing a vibrant green as it prepared to strike Lucario and absorb his energy. But before it could reach him, Serena took charge.
Delphox gracefully raised its wand, its eyes glowing with a mystical light as shimmering psychic energy surrounded Medicham. Before the Fighting could land its attack, it was suddenly lifted off the ground and hurled backward by the powerful Psyshock.
So if it's real
Then darlin', let me know
I wouldn't mind
If you steal the show
Lucario seized the perfect moment, gathering his energy before launching into the air with incredible agility. His leg glowed with a brilliant aura as he executed his signature move, Magnum Kick.
With a single, powerful strike, a shockwave erupted across the battlefield, sending both Simisage and Medicham flying backward. The impact created a small explosion of dust and energy, shaking the ground beneath them.
As the dust settled, the opposing trainers watched in disbelief as their Pokémon lay defeated, unable to continue.
Serena, just as excited, twirled with joy before looking at Ash with bright eyes. Without hesitation, she ran toward him and threw herself into his arms.
Ash instinctively caught her, wrapping his arms around her tightly. For a moment, it felt as if time had slowed down.
Serena let out a joyful laugh, her heart pounding as she clung to him
So if it's real (didn't know until I saw your face)
Then darlin', let me know (I was missin' out on every moment)
I wouldn't mind
If you steal the show
After the battle, Ash and Serena sat on the soft grass, resting from the excitement. Pikachu, equally exhausted, lay comfortably between them, his tiny body rising and falling with each peaceful breath.
Nearby, Lucario sat under the shade of a large tree, a book in his hands. Unlike most Pokémon, Lucario had the rare ability to read, and he found it to be a calming pastime. He flipped through the pages with quiet focus, enjoying the moment of solitude.
However, his peace was short-lived.
Delphox, intrigued by the unusual sight of Lucario reading, slowly approached him. Her curiosity had been piqued. She had never seen a Lucario so engrossed in literature before. With silent steps, she moved closer, watching him with amusement.
Lucario, despite keeping his eyes on the book, was fully aware of her presence. He could sense her aura lingering behind him, her playful energy unmistakable. At first, he tried to ignore it, but as the seconds passed, her persistent presence started to get on his nerves.
With a small sigh, he finally turned his head slightly to glance at her. Delphox stood there with a mischievous smirk. She tilted her head as if waiting for him to acknowledge her properly.
Lucario stiffened slightly. He wasn't sure why, but something about her expression unsettled him. Was it the way her golden eyes sparkled with amusement? Or the way her fluffy tail swayed side to side as if she were plotting something
Seeing that Delphox wasn't going to leave, Lucario resigned himself and allowed her to sit beside him. Content with this, Delphox eagerly began asking him about his book. (I'll give a special mention if anyone guesses where this Lucario and Delphox reference is from.)
"Looks like those two are getting along well," Serena exclaimed as she watched the scene between her Delphox and Ash's Lucario.
"Haha, believe me, Lucario doesn't let anyone get close when he's with his books," he admitted, watching the scene with genuine curiosity. It was rare for Lucario to lower his guard, even more so when he was absorbed in reading.
Serena giggled, folding her arms as she turned to Ash. "Maybe Delphox has a special charm," she teased, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Ash scratched the back of his head, feeling a slight warmth rise to his cheeks. He wasn't as dense as before he could tell where this conversation was heading. "Yeah, maybe," he said with a small grin, choosing his words carefully.
Serena tilted her head, watching him closely. "Or maybe... he takes after his Trainer."
Ash blinked, caught off guard for a moment before letting out a nervous chuckle. "W-Well, who knows?" he said, looking away as Serena giggled at his reaction
motivated her to keep going. With a playful smile, she leaned in a little closer, tilting her head slightly to try and catch his gaze.
"Tell me, Ash..." she began in a soft yet teasing tone. "Why are you so nervous? Don't tell me… does it make you uncomfortable to be alone with me?"
Ash felt his pulse quicken. He knew Serena was playing with him, but that didn't make it any less effective. He swallowed hard and let out a forced laugh, scratching the back of his head in an attempt to ease the tension.
"Me? No way!" he replied quickly, though his tone betrayed him. "It's just that… well, I didn't expect you to say that all of a sudden."
Serena chuckled softly, enjoying seeing Ash in this unfamiliar state, far from the confidence he always displayed in battles. "All of a sudden? I don't know, I think we've been dropping hints for a while now…" she said, clasping her hands behind her back as she tilted her head slightly.
Ash blinked. He wasn't as immature as before, but still, Serena had a way of throwing him off balance so effortlessly. And the worst or maybe the best part was that he didn't mind it at all.
"Maybe…" he admitted, flashing a slightly more relaxed smile.
Serena looked at him intently, as if studying every reaction of his. Then, with a subtle step forward, she closed the distance between them even more.
"What if I told you I like seeing you like this? I don't know, it's cute seeing you nervous, Ash."
The Kanto trainer felt the heat rise to his cheeks. "Cute?" he repeated, unsure of how to process it.
Serena nodded with a sweet smile, but her eyes gleamed with a boldness Ash wasn't used to seeing in her. "Yes, cute."
For the first time in a long while, Ash didn't know what to say. He could only hold Serena's gaze, feeling his heart beating faster than usual. And the worst part… was that he didn't want to look away.
Serena slowly moved closer, closing the distance between them little by little. Ash was completely lost in the deep blue of her eyes, his thoughts scattering like leaves in the wind. He didn't know exactly what was happening to him, but he wasn't trying to stop it either. In fact, he was enjoying it.
His heart pounded in his chest as Serena leaned in, her face just inches away from his. Ash barely dared to breathe, his gaze locked onto hers, anticipation filling the air like electricity before a storm. His mind raced, but his body refused to move away.
Then, just as their lips were about to touch….just as Ash's breath hitched and his eyes instinctively fluttered shut, Serena suddenly pulled away with a playful smirk, lifting her head at the last second.
Ash blinked, momentarily stunned, his brain struggling to catch up.
"Wha….?" he started, his voice caught somewhere between confusion and disbelief.
Serena giggled mischievously, tilting her head slightly as she watched his reaction. "Aww, were you expecting something, Ash?" she teased, her voice dripping with amusement.
Ash felt the heat rush to his face, his hands clenching into fists at his sides as he tried to process what had just happened. "W-Wha—no! I mean—I wasn't!" he stammered, his words a mess as Serena's laughter only grew.
She leaned in again, just close enough for him to feel her presence but not enough to fall for her trick a second time. "You're cute when you're flustered," she whispered, before taking a step back with a satisfied smile.
Ash let out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding. His heart was still racing, but now, a small grin crept onto his lips.
"You think you're funny, huh?" he said, crossing his arms, though the redness in his cheeks betrayed his flustered state.
Serena simply shrugged. "Maybe."
After the playful moment between them, the tension slowly faded, giving way to a more relaxed atmosphere. Serena and Ash sat down on the soft grass, letting the cool evening breeze wash over them as they started talking about their achievements.
Ash, still feeling a little flustered, decided to shift the topic. "By the way, Serena, I heard you made it to the finals of the Grand Festival in Hoenn. That's amazing!" he said with a genuine smile. "I know how tough those contests can be and getting that far is a huge deal!"
Serena's eyes lit up at his words. "Thanks, Ash," she said warmly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "It was one of the biggest moments of my journey. I worked so hard for it, and when I finally made it to the finals, it felt like a dream."
Ash nodded, completely engaged. "I bet it did. I mean, I've seen firsthand how much effort you put into your performances. I'm really proud of you, Serena."
Hearing that made Serena's heart skip a beat. There was something special about being recognized by Ash, someone who had always inspired her. She smiled, her voice softening. "It wasn't just about reaching the finals. It was about proving to myself that I could do it. Back when I started, I wasn't confident at all. But step by step, I learned to believe in myself."
Ash could relate to that feeling. He had faced countless challenges throughout his own journey, and he knew the kind of dedication it took to push forward. "Yeah, I get that," he said.
"Hey, so… you're not going to continue with contests?" Ash asked, tilting his head curiously.
Serena smiled softly at the question, as if she had already thought about it many times before. "Who knows? Maybe I'll give it another try someday. But right now, I've found my new calling, and I think it's one of the things that has made me the happiest."
"Yeah, I know… and I have to say, you're really talented. I like your songs."
Serena's eyes widened slightly, caught completely off guard. "You've listened to my songs?" she asked, a mix of surprise and delight in her voice.
Ash rubbed the back of his neck, looking a little embarrassed. "Of course, I have. I mean, I know your official fan club is mostly girls… but I can definitely say that I'm your number one fan."
As soon as he said it, his face turned red, realizing how embarrassing that sounded. He had meant it sincerely, but now that the words were out, he felt a little self-conscious.
Serena, on the other hand, felt her heart swell with emotion. Her eyes sparkled as she gazed at Ash, touched by his words. "Believe me… that's one of the sweetest things anyone has ever told me."
Without thinking twice, she leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a warm and gentle embrace.
"Thank you, Ash," she whispered, her voice filled with genuine gratitude.
Ash stiffened at first, feeling his face heat up even more, but after a moment, he relaxed into the hug, allowing himself to enjoy the warmth of the moment.
Slowly, he lifted his arms and hugged her back, a small, contented smile forming on his lips. "Anytime, Serena."
Their moment was suddenly interrupted by the sound of an alarm ringing from Serena's pink Rotom Phone.
making Serena blink in surprise before quickly pulling out her phone to check the notification.
"Oh, by Arceus… time flies so fast!" she exclaimed, a hint of nervousness in her voice as she read the message.
Ash tilted his head, looking at her curiously. "What's wrong?" he asked.
Serena let out a small sigh before looking up at him with an apologetic smile. "Sorry, Ash. I completely forgot. I have an event to attend at the central plaza. I was supposed to be there soon!"
She stood up quickly, brushing off her skirt as she prepared to leave, but then, a sudden thought crossed her mind. With a bright smile, she turned back to Ash, her eyes full of excitement.
"Hey, why don't you come with me?" she asked eagerly.
Ash blinked in surprise. "Me? Are you sure?"
Serena nodded enthusiastically. "Of course! It'll be fun! Don't you wanna see me on stage?" She winked.
With a small chuckle, he scratched the back of his head and smiled. "Alright, why not? Let's go."
Serena beamed at his response. "Great! But we better hurry! If I'm late, my manager is going to kill me!" she said, grabbing his wrist and gently pulling him along.
Ash barely had time to react before he found himself being dragged through the streets
As they ran towards the central plaza, the lights of the city shimmered around them, and for a moment, Ash thought that maybe, just maybe, this night was going to be even more special than he had imagined.
The couple arrived at the festival, and Ash, along with Pikachu, was left in awe at the sheer number of people gathered there. Even though Ash still wasn't sure why Serena was needed here, he let her guide him through the bustling crowd.
"Wow, this festival is huge!" he exclaimed, his eyes darting around at all the different stands and performances happening around them.
Serena smiled, clearly used to the event. "Yeah, they hold it every year. One of the city's cultural organizations organizes it, and a lot of people come from all over just for this time of the year."
Ash took in her words, and then something clicked in his memory. "Oh, right! Professor Sycamore actually told me about this earlier when I went to see him."
Serena turned to him, intrigued. "You went to see the professor?"
"Yeah," Ash nodded. "He gave my team a mission to recover a special delivery he was expecting. It was something important, so he asked for our help."
Serena's eyes widened slightly in admiration. "Wow, looks like this Pokémon researcher thing suits you. And who are your teammates?" she asked curiously.
Ash smiled proudly. "They're great! Their names are Goh and Chl—"
But before he could finish his sentence, the music suddenly shifted. The upbeat rhythm of the band faded out, replaced by the soft, melodic notes of a slow song. A hush of anticipation swept through the crowd as an announcement echoed through the speakers.
"And now, a special moment for all the couples out there. This next song is dedicated to love, so grab your partner and enjoy the dance!"
Ash froze. His brain processed the words a little slower than usual, and when he turned to Serena, he saw something in her expression that made his heart skip a beat.
She was staring at him with wide, surprised eyes at first, but then, a soft, knowing smile began to form on her lips. The warm glow of the festival lights reflected in her eyes as she took a step closer.
"Well… looks like we got here just in time," she said playfully, tilting her head slightly.
Ash suddenly felt nervous. "Uh… yeah, I guess so," he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. He had battled legendary Pokémon, faced off against the toughest trainers, and even won the Alola League, but for some reason, standing here with Serena under the soft glow of the festival lights made him feel more flustered than ever.
Serena giggled at his reaction. Then, without hesitation, she extended her hand toward him. "¿So… would you like to dance with me, Ash?"
Ash blinked. His heart pounded in his chest, and for a moment, he considered panicking. But then, as he looked at Serena's gentle smile, something inside him calmed.
Taking a deep breath, he reached out and took her hand. "Yeah… I'd like that."
Serena's smile widened as she led him onto the dance floor, where other couples were already swaying to the music. As the soft melody wrapped around them.
As Ash and Serena stepped onto the dance floor, the music transitioned to a slow, soothing melody. The soft, gentle rhythm seemed to match the quiet, almost magical atmosphere that had settled around them. Ash felt a slight flutter of nerves in his chest, unsure of how to move, but the warmth of Serena's hand in his eased his uncertainty. She was calm, confident, and graceful, and for some reason, that made Ash feel more at ease.
Serena gave him a small smile, her eyes sparkling in the dim light of the festival. "Don't worry, just relax and follow my lead," she said, her voice soft, almost a whisper.
Ash nodded, taking a deep breath to steady himself. As the music swirled around them, Serena led the way, stepping in time with the slow, melodic beats. Ash followed, though his steps were a bit clumsy at first. Serena was patient, guiding him gently, and soon, he found his rhythm. They were close now, and despite the faint nervousness that still lingered in Ash's chest, he couldn't help but feel warmth between them, a closeness that made the world around them feel a little smaller.
Pikachu, sitting on Ash's shoulder, let out a soft cheer. "Pika pi!" Pikachu exclaimed, clearly enjoying the sight of his trainer and Serena dancing together.
"This is nice," Ash said, his voice a little quieter than usual, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "I didn't expect to be doing this tonight."
Serena's smile grew, and she shifted her position slightly to get even closer to him. "Neither did I," she replied, her voice warm. "But I'm really happy you're here with me, Ash."
Serena rested her head gently on Ash's shoulder, her breath warm against his skin. The slow, rhythmic swaying of the dance made everything feel calm and intimate, and Ash couldn't help but feel a rush of warmth in his chest. His hand gently rested on her back as they moved together, the soft music guiding them in perfect moment.
As the song continued, Ash realized something important: it wasn't just the big adventures or the challenges that mattered, it was moments like this, the quiet, simple moments shared with someone special. The kind of moments that, despite being fleeting, leave an impact on your heart forever.
As the music began to wind down, Serena lifted her head from Ash's shoulder, her eyes meeting his once more. "Thanks for this, Ash," she whispered, a soft, tender smile on her lips.
Ash's heart beat a little faster as he looked at her, his own smile genuine and heartfelt. "Anytime, Serena."
As the song came to an end, Serena's attention shifted when she heard someone calling her name from the edge of the crowd. A stage manager waved frantically, signaling to her that it was almost time.
"Serena, it's your turn!" he called out urgently.
Serena's face momentarily shifted from the peaceful expression she had while dancing to one of focused realization. "Oh no, I lost track of time!" she said, startled by how quickly the moments had passed.
Ash, still caught up in the afterglow of their slow dance, looked at her, a little confused. "What's going on?"
She turned to him quickly, her expression now serious. "I have to perform soon. I didn't expect it to be so fast."
Before Ash could ask anything further, Serena gently grabbed his hand, pulling him toward the stage. The hustle and bustle of the festival seemed to fade as they made their way through the crowd.
When they reached the edge of the stage, Serena stopped and turned to face him. Her eyes were focused, her smile soft but filled with something deeper. "Ash, this performance…" she started, her voice quiet but serious, "It's really important to me. This is the song I've been working on for months, and it's my heart in the form of music."
"Will you wait for me here while I go back?" she asked. "Of course, I'll wait for you here," he assured her.
Serena took a deep breath and stepped onto the stage, her heart racing with a mix of excitement and nervousness. The spotlight bathed her in a soft glow, casting her in a warm, ethereal light.
Ash stayed just off to the side, watching closely, his eyes never leaving her. He could see the small flicker of nervousness in her eyes, but he also saw her strength and her confidence.
"Hello, my beautiful people of Lumiose City! How's everyone doing?" Serena shouted.
The entire crowd erupted with excitement, the energy in the air was palpable. Ash realized this was the band everyone came for.
"I'm so happy for all the support and love you've shown, and now I have the privilege of performing the song that's been breaking records in such a short time," Serena continued joyfully. Ash clapped along with the crowd. He was happy to see his friend capture so much love from the people with her music, something he wished he could do as well.
"I'm also really happy because I get to sing this song for someone special…the person I wrote it for," she said softly into the microphone. Ash felt his blood rush to his head. Though no one knew, he knew she was referring to him.
The band started playing the opening melody, and Serena's gaze was fixed on him. She saw him smile sweetly; she truly enjoyed it, as if she were singing only for him.
Serena's eyes never left Ash as she sang the first verse:
"We were both young when I first saw you,
I close my eyes and the flashback starts,
I'm standing there,
On a balcony in summer air."
The way she sang, every word felt personal. Ash felt his chest tighten, as if the song were weaving a connection between them, one he hadn't fully realized until now. Serena's gaze was tender, almost like she was reliving the moments they had shared together.
The song continued, and Serena's voice remained steady, beautiful, each note filled with emotion:
"See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns,
See you make your way through the crowd,
And say, 'Hello,'
Little did I know…"
Serena began to let herself be carried away by her emotion and sang the next part at the top of her lungs.
That you were Romeo, you were throwin' pebbles
And my mom said, "Stay away from Juliet"
And I was cryin' on the staircase
Beggin' you, "Please don't go, " and I said
Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"
The entire crowd began to sing and jump in unison. Ash was amazed by the success Serena had achieved in the music world so quickly. He could feel the excitement of everyone around him, and just like everyone else, he was thoroughly enjoying the show.
Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"
Romeo, save me, they're tryna tell me how to feel
This love is difficult, but it's real
Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"
Oh, oh
I got tired of waiting
Wonderin' if you were ever comin' around
My faith in you was fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town, and I said.
At that moment, Serena shifted the rhythm, slowing it down slightly, as if this part of the song held a deeper, more intimate meaning. Her voice softened, filled with emotion, drawing the audience into the moment. Then her gaze locked onto his, intense and unwavering, making it clear that the lyrics were no longer just words…they were meant for him.
Romeo, save me, I've been feeling so alone
I keep waiting for you, but you never come
Is this in my head? I don't know what to think
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring
Serena, without a hint of doubt or hesitation, raised her hand and pointed directly at Ash, making sure that everyone in the room could see him. The gesture was undeniable and left no room for misinterpretation.
Ash felt a chill run down his spine as the realization sank in—there was no mistake, no coincidence. The song was about him. His mind raced, his heart pounded in his chest. He had always been aware that there was something between them, an unspoken connection, a bond that went beyond simple friendship. But he had never imagined it ran this deep, that Serena would be willing to declare it so openly, in front of everyone.
And said, "Marry me, Juliet
You'll never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your mom, go pick out a white dress
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
'Cause we were both young when I first saw you
Before finishing the song, Serena managed to whisper something, trying to keep it from being picked up by the microphone, but a few people still caught it, including Ash.
"I love you."
As soon as the performance ended, the entire audience erupted to thunderous applause. There was no doubt—Serena had become a wildly successful artist in Kalos. People were captivated by her talent, and many began to disperse while others eagerly searched for her, hoping to get an autograph or just a moment of her time.
Ash, however, remained frozen in place, still in a trance from what had just happened. His mind replayed by her whispering words over and over. It felt surreal. Had she really said it? Had he heard it right?
Even Pikachu, sensing his trainer's complete stillness, decided to take matters into his own paws. With a mischievous spark in his eyes, he reached up and gave Ash a sharp pinch, hoping to snap him back to reality. "Heyy" Ash groaned, getting back to reality.
Suddenly, something caught his attention. In the distance, among the people gathering around her, Serena was searching for him with her eyes. And when she finally found him, she smiled sweetly and gestured for him to come closer.
Ash swallowed hard and walked toward her. He wasn't sure what would happen next, but he knew he had to talk to her.
Once he reached her backstage, Serena wrapped her arms around him in a warm embrace.
"Tell me, what did you think?" she asked, blushing as she looked at him, knowing she had just dedicated a song to him, one that revealed her deepest feelings.
"Honestly, seeing you perform live is something magical. You were amazing," Ash replied, trying to keep his emotions in check.
Serena simply smiled and let out a small laugh. She could tell that he had understood her confession, but if they were going to talk about it, they needed to do it somewhere more private, away from all the noise and distractions.
Then, she suggested going somewhere quieter. Ash nodded in agreement, and together they decided to leave the festival behind for a while.
But just before leaving, Serena paused. She turned back and grabbed a guitar that had been safely stored in its case.
Ash watched her curiously. "You're bringing your guitar?" he asked.
Serena smiled as she slung the strap over her shoulder. "Yeah… I feel like I might need it."
Ash didn't press further. He simply followed her, his mind still racing with everything that had happened. Whatever Serena had in mind; he knew this conversation was far from over.
The two walked through the quiet streets of the city. The evening air was cool, a serene lookout by the water. It was a peaceful spot, tucked away from the noise and chaos of the city. The river flowed gently beneath the bridge.
Serena looked at Ash, her guitar still in hand, and for the first time since the performance, she seemed to take a deep breath, as if gathering her thoughts. It was clear that they were both waiting for the right moment, and now, here, in this calm spot by the river, it felt like the perfect time to speak their hearts.
Ash stood next to her, his hands tucked into his pockets, feeling the cool breeze as it swept across the river. His mind was still spinning with the intensity of everything that had happened, and now, standing here with Serena, he couldn't help but feel the weight of the moment.
Serena gazed at the river calmly, saying nothing, just wearing a gentle smile on her face.
Ash tried to shake off the nervousness clouding his mind—he knew he had to find the right response. He sat down beside her, watching the river in silence for a moment.
Then, Serena broke the silence. "Do you remember the last time we were here?" she asked, her voice gentle yet filled with meaning.
Ash exhaled deeply, his mind immediately pulling him back to that day. "Yeah… I do," he admitted. "It was the day before I left Kalos."
Serena turned slightly toward him, her eyes filled with nostalgia. "That day, we walked through the city, just like today. You helped me figure out what I should do next, what direction my career should take." She let out a small laugh, shaking her head slightly. "And looking back, I know I made the right choice. I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for that conversation."
She paused, her fingers tracing lightly over the body of her guitar. "But tonight was different. This time, I wasn't just thinking about my future… I was thinking about us." She turned to look at him fully now, her expression warm but earnest. "In a way, this was our first date."
Ash sighed deeply, feeling the tension slowly leave his body. He had spent too much time overthinking, worrying about how to respond, but now he knew that the only thing he could do was be honest.
"I guess you could say that, yeah." His voice was steady this time.
Serena shifted slightly, moving to sit on the edge of the lookout with her back to the river. She let her fingers idly brush over the body of her guitar as she gathered her thoughts. Then, after a brief moment of silence, she spoke again.
"Ash, can I ask you something?" Serena asked him
"Yeah, go ahead," he replied, watching her closely.
Serena took a breath before finally asking, "What did you think was going to happen when you came to see me?"
"You know… you've always been one of the most important people in my life, Serena," he began, his voice quieter now, more thoughtful. "It's been a long time since we last saw each other, and I really wanted to see how much you had changed. I wanted to see everything you've accomplished, how far you've come."
"I see," Serena replied, a hint of disappointment in her voice.
That was when Ash decided to ask something important.
"Hey, can I ask you something now?" he said, his voice carrying a bit more weight this time.
"Of course, go ahead," she answered.
Ash hesitated for a brief moment before finally asking, trying to sound casual despite the importance of his words. "How long have you had feelings for me?"
She didn't blush or look away. She didn't fumble for words or try to avoid the subject. Instead, she remained completely calm, her expression steady and sure.
"Since the day I met you when we were kids..." she said, her voice gentle but unwavering. "I got lost in that forest, and you came to my rescue. Maybe back then, I saw you as my savior, but as we traveled together, I realized that what I felt was something much deeper. I truly loved you, Ash."
She spoke with such ease, as if she had carried these words with her for so long that saying them now felt like the most natural thing in the world.
"Yeah, I think it became pretty obvious when I heard your song. I'd have to be a complete fool not to realize it was for me," Ash said with a small, sarcastic laugh, trying to lighten the mood.
Serena, however, wasn't entirely convinced. She turned to him with a raised eyebrow, her expression filled with skepticism.
"Oh, you think so?" she said, crossing her arms. "Because, let's be honest, Ash… you don't exactly have the best track record when it comes to understanding girls' feelings."
Ash blinked, caught off guard by her bluntness. "Hey, that's not…." he started to protest but then hesitated, realizing she had a point. He scratched the back of his head awkwardly, letting out a small, nervous chuckle. "Okay… maybe you're not wrong."
"Tell me something… did that kiss I gave you mean so little to you?" Serena's voice carried a mix of frustration and sadness as she finally voiced the question that had been haunting her for years.
Ash blinked in surprise, clearly caught off guard. "What? What are you talking about?" he asked her.
"Ash, after that moment, we barely spoke for a long time. You left for Alola, and I went to Hoenn. We didn't talk for months. And even when we did, we just acted like nothing had happened. Like it didn't matter," she explained, her voice laced with quiet pain.
Ash opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. He had never thought about it that way before.
Serena continued, her gaze searching for some kind of understanding. "For me, that kiss was something really important. It wasn't just some goodbye…it was me telling you how I felt. It was the only way I could say it without words." She clenched her hands into fists on her lap. "But you never brought it up. Not once. And after a while, I started to wonder… did it mean anything to you at all?"
Ash swallowed hard. He wasn't good with emotions, he knew that. But hearing Serena say all of this now, so openly, made him realize just how much he had left unsaid. Just how much she had been carrying on her own.
For so long, he had been focused on his own journey, his growth, that he hadn't realized how much he had hurt her by brushing off something so significant. He had never truly understood how much that kiss meant to her.
He looked at Serena, his eyes filled with regret. "I... I never meant to hurt you, Serena." His voice was soft, filled with sincerity. "When we kissed that day, I didn't know how to handle it. I didn't know how to process it. And instead of talking to you about it, I ran away—physically and emotionally. I left without confronting what that kiss meant. I'm sorry."
"I know you didn't mean to hurt me, Ash. I don't think you ever wanted that. But... it's just hard sometimes. We spent so much time together, and then suddenly, we were so far a part, like those moments didn't matter anymore. Like I didn't matter anymore."
Ash reached out, his hand hovering for a moment before he gently touched her arm.
"You matter to me more than I can explain, Serena. Always have. I just... didn't know how to deal with my feelings back then. I've never been good at this sort of thing." He let out a shaky breath. "But I'm here now, and I don't want us to keep pretending like it never happened."
Serena looked down at his hand resting on her arm, and for a moment, she was silent. But then she took his hand and kissed it gently
"Maybe it's a bit late," Serena said quietly, meeting his eyes. "But I'm glad you're here now."
"Why do we make things so complicated?" Ash laughed lightly, trying to break the tension, but there was a sense of relief in his voice too.
Serena's laughter followed his, warm and genuine, and she responded by slipping her hands behind his neck, drawing him even closer. "I think we both enjoy a little bit of drama," she teased with a smile, but the affection in her voice was unmistakable. "But believe me, I wouldn't change any of it. Thanks for always being you. " Her eyes sparkled with something more than just playfulness.
In that moment, the air between them was thick with emotion. The day they had shared had brought them closer in ways they had never expected. Their words, their battle, the music. It felt like the culmination of everything they had been through, everything they had ever meant to each other.
Serena, sensing the shift in the air, slowly leaned in closer to Ash. Each movement was deliberate, but there was a gentleness to it. She didn't want to rush it, but she knew what they were both feeling. Ash could feel it too. The longing, the unspoken desire that had built up over the years.
His heart raced as he closed his eyes, feeling her presence just inches away from him. He could feel her breath, soft and warm, and he could almost taste the closeness between them. He knew she wanted him. He knew she felt the same way, and as he leaned in to close the gap, it felt like everything was falling into place.
But just as their lips were about to touch, a thought suddenly hit him. He remembered something
A few words...
"Thanks for always been you."
Someone else said those words. Someone who cared about him. Someone he cares about a lot.
Just before their lips were about to meet, Ash suddenly pulled back, his heart racing as a wave of confusion and guilt washed over him. Serena, who had been leaning in so confidently, immediately sensed something was wrong.
"Is something wrong?" she asked, her voice calm and not angry, but filled with genuine worry.
Ash felt a knot tighten in his stomach. He knew he had deep, undeniable feelings for Serena. But as much as his heart wanted to be with her, there was a lingering weight that he couldn't ignore…the connection he had with Chloe.
The last few months with Chloe had been unexpected. They had become close in ways Ash hadn't anticipated. The bond they shared, the way they supported each other, the laughter, the quiet moments….it all felt real. They weren't in a formal relationship, but Ash couldn't shake the feeling that something deeper was beginning to develop between them. They had built something important, something genuine. And now, here he was, standing at the crossroads, feeling like he was betraying her by even thinking about being with Serena in this way.
What am I doing? Ash thought, the internal conflict became unbearable. I can't just ignore the feelings I have with Chloe. But… Serena… He felt torn in a way that made him feel more vulnerable than he ever had before.
Serena, sensing his inner turmoil, took a step back, her expression softening. She could see the guilt in his eyes, the way he was struggling with something deeper than just their moment together. She didn't want to pressure him
"It's someone else, isn't it?" she asked casually, and Ash froze. How did she know what was going on in his mind?
"I... How did you...?" Ash stammered, still in disbelief that she truly understood what he was going through.
"Ash... It's okay," Serena responded calmly, her voice filled with understanding. "But you..." Ash continued, still shocked.
"Ash, I knew this could happen. We're almost adults now," Serena continued, her voice steady and mature. "It's okay. I've already made it clear how I feel, and I think I know how you feel about me too. But I also know you're loyal. If you've chosen to be with someone else, then I'm happy, Ash, as long as you are."
Serena clarified, her words filled with grace and acceptance. Despite how much she loved him, she understood that Ash was free to be with whoever he wanted, and she was willing to let him go, as long as he was happy.
Ash truly couldn't believe how someone so incredible could have fallen for him. Maybe it had just been a matter of timing. "Maybe you were right, maybe it was a little too late."
"You know something, I just realized something," he said. Serena tilted her head, intrigued by the sudden shift in his demeanor.
"What is it?" she asked, her curiosity piqued, wondering where this was leading.
Ash took a deep breath before continuing, his words flowing more naturally now that he had a sense of purpose. "For a long time, I've been thinking about which song represents you." He paused, the memories of his journey with music and his connection to her playing through his mind. "Since I discovered my passion for music, I've always tried to find songs that represent the people who matter most in my life."
Serena listened intently, not interrupting him, sensing that he was about to reveal something important.
"I've been thinking about what song would represent you. I kept wondering, 'What would be the perfect song for someone as incredible as Serena?' And this morning…" His voice softened, filled with a quiet excitement. "I finally heard it. The song that describes you, that describes us."
"What song?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"It's called 'The Murkrow and the Beautifly.'" Ash said quietly, looking out at the river as if the words he was about to speak needed to settle in his mind first. "On the radio, they were talking about how in life, there are people who always fly alongside you, sharing the same skies, but maybe, in the end, you can never quite reach them." He paused for a moment, as if weighing the significance of the song. "It felt like it was speaking to me... to us, really. How we've always been close, but there are times when it feels like we've been moving at different speeds."
Serena's eyes softened as she listened to his words. So... why don't you play it for me?" she asked before she pulled the guitar from its case, and handed it to him gently
Ash blinked, surprised by her request. He had been so caught up in his own thoughts that he hadn't expected her to ask him to play. But the way she spoke, the way she looked at him—he realized she wasn't just asking him to play a song.
Ash took the guitar, his fingers lightly brushing the strings as if testing them, unsure of the right chords. But there was no need for perfection, this moment wasn't about the song being flawless. It was about sharing something raw, something real.
Serena smiled softly, her gaze never leaving him. She had asked him to play, not because she wanted to hear a perfect performance, but because she wanted to connect with him through music, just as they had connected through their words. So he played the chorus he listened a while ago ans started to sing
Your words still serenade me
Your lullabies won't let me sleep
I've never heard such a haunting melody
Oh, it's killin' me
You know I can barely breathe
Just like a Murkrow chasing the beautifly
Eldegust lost in the summer sky
When you and I were gettin' high as outer space
I never thought you'd slip away
I guess I was just a little too late
Serena just looked at him with a smile. She knew he wanted to express his feelings with a song, which is why she had written Love Story, to speak of the relationship that never happened and the feelings that had never faded. Hearing him sing made her feel even more love for him, but at the same time, it made her realize that it was time to let him go.
Just like a Murkrow chasing the beautifly
Eldegust lost in the summer sky
When you and I were gettin' high as outer space
I never thought you'd slip away
Like a crow chasing the butterfly
Eldegust lost in the summer sky
When you and I were gettin' high as outer space
I never thought you'd slip away
I guess I was just a little too late
Just a little too late
When the song came to an end, Ash slowly lowered the guitar, his fingers lingering on the strings for a moment before he looked up at Serena. The silence between them was comfortable now, not heavy or awkward, but filled with something deep…shared understanding.
Serena's applause was soft but heartfelt. She had always been the one to stand in the spotlight, but today, in this quiet, intimate moment, she felt the joy of being on the other side. Ash had taken a part of his heart and poured it into a song. Even though the song wasn't one of romance, but of melancholy and longing, it still meant something deeper to her.
"You know... you will always be my first love, Ash," she said softly, her voice carrying the weight of everything she had held in for so long. She reached out, taking his hands in hers. The way his fingers intertwined with hers felt like a silent promise, a reassurance that their connection was still real, even if their paths were destined to separate.
Before either of them could say anything more, Ash moved closer, his heart beating a little faster, unsure of what was guiding him. But he knew one thing, he needed to show her, somehow, that she meant the world to him. So, without a word, he leaned in, brushing a soft kiss against her cheek, just a breath away from her lips. It wasn't a kiss that demanded answers or promises; it was a kiss that means affection, of all the years they had shared.
"And you, Serena," Ash whispered, his voice low but clear, his gaze still locked on hers, "you will always be my beautifly."
They both knew there was nothing more to say. They simply embraced, understanding that this was their goodbye. Maybe not forever. Maybe they would meet again, perhaps only as friends, but time would tell. In the end, fate always seemed to bring them back together, one way or another.
Just before leaving, Serena said one last thing.
"Hey, Ash... make it worth it."
Ash understood what Serena meant. It was almost like a promise. He would make sure that his relationship with Chloe would be worth it. He would keep that promise to the girl who loved him.
Serena walked away slowly, with nothing more to say, no tears or regrets. She had already taken the first step to close a chapter... though deep down, she knew she would never stop loving him, no matter what.
Ash sighed. It had undoubtedly been an emotional rollercoaster for him. He had hurt someone he truly cared about, but he also felt at peace knowing that things hadn't ended badly between them. "Maybe another day," Ash said to himself, gazing at the sky.
By the time Ash returned to the Pokémon Center, it was already night. He was hoping to find Chloe and Goh there. Now that he had made a decision, he knew what he had to do.
"I think it's time to tell her how I feel, no jokes, no tricks. Just tell her I want to be with her," Ash said to himself.
When he arrived at the room, he expected to find Goh and ask where Chloe was, but to his surprise, no one was there. The bed was made, and Goh's things were gone.
"What the heck? They haven't come back, and it's so late." Ash exclaimed aloud before noticing a note on the nightstand. It was a note from Goh.
Ash took the note and read it in silence. Goh's handwriting was clear.
"Ash. Chloe asked me to accompany her back to Kanto tonight. I'm not sure what's going on, but she told me it was urgent. I tried calling you, but you didn't respond to my messages. I'll probably be flying by the time you read this note. See you in Kanto.
Sincerely, Goh."
Ash dropped the note onto the table, his mind going blank. He was alone now, and Chloe was gone. Part of him knew something was off. Why did she leave in such a hurry. But at that moment he couldn't get an answer.
Ash simply lay down on the bed, reflecting on what had happened. He pondered the decision he had made, thinking about how he had broken a heart... or maybe even two.
Alright, guys, I have to say this has been the longest chapter I've written. First, I must assume many of you were surprised by the twist with Serena. I must admit, and those who know my stories know that I am an Amourshipper at heart. But I must confess that I based this chapter on the relationship that marked me the most in my life. Sometimes, there are people who life doesn't allow you to be with, but that doesn't take away the love you feel. I hope you liked this chapter, and sorry for so many songs, but I think it's the special touch of this story.
