Second in a short timespan! I have several of these I'm going to be putting out in the next few days. Hope you enjoy this one too!
Yosetsu Awase hammered at the red hot metal. Slowly but surely it bent to his strikes, shaping into something new. In this case, a small cup, good for tea. The sort that-
A bright smile on her face, her ponytail bobbing as she excitedly talked to Kendo, her eyes bright with cheerfulness.
Yosetsu blushed. Nah, not good enough for her. But good enough for himself or one of his friends maybe. As he continued hammering away, his mind drifted again to the frequent subject of his thoughts. Of himself pulling her to safety during the Training Camp, of her speaking with Kendo, and one time the sun caught her at just the right angle.
Yaoyorozu Momo, beautiful, intelligent, responsible, wealthy yet generous. A girl of dignity and grace. All in all, one of the finest students in their year at UA.
Yosetsu shook his head. Since that night at the training camp, she'd occupied his thoughts more and more. Not every day, but when these feelings hit him, they hit him. But then, she wasn't the only girl he'd caught feelings for that night.
Raven hair waving behind her, her eyes glowing as she raised out a hand, stopping the Nomu in its tracks. Her white skin almost glowed in the moonlight, while wind swirled around her, making her look like an avenging angel.
Yosetsu blushed again. Do I have a thing for pale skin and black hair or something?
The other object of his affection was Erma Williams, Class 1-A's resident ghost girl. Cute, friendly, terrifying, loving both the macabre and the sweet. Obscenely powerful but still approachable. A girl of contradictions. Nothing had shown that better than her performance in the Sports Festival.
Yosetsu sighed. He'd been thinking way too much of the opposite sex lately. He should focus on his work before he set something on fire.
Yosetsu finished his work and cleaned up, before walking out with his finished handiwork. He was lucky that UA's forge was open for non-Support students, or he'd never have been able to continue this hobby after moving to the dorms. The only downside was the need to avoid Hatsume's attempts to experiment on him.
As he walked through the Support studio, he saw Midoriya finishing a conversation with Hatsume. Midoriya glanced up at Yosetsu as he passed, exchanging a brief nod with him. Nearby, Momo was waiting to speak with the inventor. Momo smiled and waved. Yosetsu blushed and waved back while hiding his meager creation behind his back. He stepped out and wondered what to do now.
He could go training. Or he could see if any of the guys wanted to do something-
Yosetsu slammed into something, no, someone. The other person stumbled. Yosetsu reached out and grabbed her hand. The moment he did, he noted how cold her skin was. He then realized just who he'd bumped into, as her a black eye with a white pupil peaked out from behind her long bangs.
Yosetsu felt his face warming as he realized he'd bumped into, then taken the hand of, his crush. Yosetsu pulled Erma up (not hard since she could float) then quickly let go. "Hi Williams," he said.
Erma's gaze hardened. Right, Pony mentioned that Erma went by her first name.
"Right. Erma," he said.
Erma nodded, then waved in response.
"How are you?" he said. "You going to visit the Support Studio or something?"
Erma tilted her hand in a so-so gesture. Yosetsu heard the door open behind him. Erma's shoulders visibly relaxed as Midoriya walked past the two of them. His gaze lingered on them, especially on Yosetsu's face, before he waved at Erma and walked away.
Erma looked slightly confused, but waved back before turning back to Yosetsu. Her eyes immediately focused on the cup. Yosetsu held it out. "Oh this? I made it in the forge. It's a hobby of mine. I make other sh-stuff too sometimes."
She levitated the cup in front of her, turning it over in wonder. She glanced back at him, her eyes shining with curiosity. For a moment, Yosetsu got lost in her exotic eyes, with their dark sclera and white iris and pupil's. It was like looking at the moon on a- Yosetsu quickly regained his senses. Then, in a fit of either madness or boldness, he said, "If you're curious, you can swing by one of these times. I'll be there tomorrow."
Erma smiled and eagerly nodded. She then turned around and happily strolled away while Awase stared after. His heart raced as it sank in that his crush just agreed to come and watch him work. Alone.
Yosetsu took a deep breath and clenched his fist. He'd never felt that impressive here, and a girl like Momo would probably never notice a guy like him. But Erma? She thought his hobby was interesting. She wanted to see it. If she came by maybe…
Maybe this was his chance to get closer to her. Sure, he couldn't just ask her out, not now. But maybe, this would be the spark to light a large flame. This was his chance and like hell was he going to miss it.
Now, he just had to choose the perfect gift for her.

The next day, Yosetsu went in, feeling equally excited and terrified. Erma was actually coming to watch him work. Nobody was in the studio today, so that meant it would be just the two of them. He slowly and methodically readied his tools, hoping to make a good impression when-
A cold hand clamped down on his shoulder, making Yosetsu nearly leap out of his skin. He whipped around, only to see Erma standing behind him. Did she do that on accident or on purpose? Knowing her, the answer could be either one.
Yosetsu gave her a shaky smile. "Erma, nice to see you."
She smiled back. Yosetsu swallowed and said, "Well, I'm going to get started. You can ask me anything you want, alright?"
She nodded.
Yosetsu went about crafting his latest project. Erma said nothing, simply watching from beside him. Still, the look of amazement on her face was all the reassurance Yosetsu needed that this was working.
Slowly but surely refining his latest creation. A steak knife. The sort he bet Erma had seen in many of the horror movies she watched. When he finished, he wiped the sweat from his brow. "Here," he said, holding out the now-cooled knife. "You can hold it. It's for cutting things like meat, or…"
Erma levitated the knife in front of her. She reached out, grasped the hilt, and then brandished it with a broad grin like she was some slasher from a cheap horror movie. Awase couldn't hold back his small laugh. Erma flushed, and gave him a sheepish smile.
"Pony mentioned that you like those old horror movies right? Glad you didn't imitate them during the training camp."
Erma let out a silent snicker. He wondered what her actual laugh sounded like.
She levitated the knife back to him. He waved it away saying, "No, no you can keep it. It's yours."
She beamed.
Yosetsu swallowed and said, "You can come again tomorrow and see again?"
She eagerly nodded. His heart skipped a beat. After she left, he pumped his fist in triumph. Success! This was going well. Maybe, if he kept it up, he might even…
That's a little ways off. Focus on the now. You've got to do everything to make tomorrow perfect. If things keep going like this, maybe then you can step it up.
"You're going to watch him do it again?" Izuku said to Erma.
Erma eagerly nodded. Of course she was! That had been so cool! He'd made a knife right out of a slasher movie for her! This was the first time she'd seen a real life blacksmith and it was really neat!
"Say," Izuku said, "Could I come watch?"
Erma didn't see why not. She hovered over to Yosetsu to ask if a friend could come. He hesitantly said yes, so she sped over to Izuku and nodded. She was sure those two would get along great!
Yosetsu resisted the urge to glare at Midoriya as he worked. Fortunately, the Class A boy hadn't said much. Just asked Yosetsu about his quirk at the beginning, which according to the other students was just his standard greeting. After that, he sat back and watched. Still, his being here ruined the atmosphere Yosetsu had so enjoyed with Erma earlier. Which of course was the point.
Yosetsu knew why that sneaky bastard was really there, and he probably knew that Yosetsu knew, but neither said a word. Either out of politeness, or because the reason for their mutual resentment wouldn't appreciate it. So, Yosetsu ignored Midoriya, knuckled down and created his next gift for Erma. This time, he made a metal origami crane.
When he finished, he showed it to her while pointedly looking away from Midoriya.. Her smile was gorgeous to behold.
"Glad you like it," he said.
Erma grinned at him, and eagerly nodded. For a moment, all felt right again with the world. Then, the certain green interloper cleared his throat.
"Say Awase?"
"Yes Midoriya?" Yosetsu said in a forced neutral tone.
"You're the one who saved Yaoyorozu at the Training Camp right?"
"Yeah?" Yosetsu said. Where is this going?
"She spoke very highly of you."
Yosetsu did a double take. "Wait she did?" Where the hell did that come from?
"Yeah!" Midoriya said with a smile that was a bit too wide to be earnest. "Have you shown her this?"
"No…?" Yosetsu felt the hairs on his neck rising.
"You really should! Me and Erma can ask her to come watch! I'm sure she'd really love it!"
Yosetsu was about to tell him hell no. Momo seeing him dirty and working in the forge? He'd humiliate himself! But alas, Erma was with Midoriya, looking at Yosetsu pleadingly. Yosetsu looked away, then up, then said, "Fine! You can ask her!"
"Great!" Midoriya said. "I'm sure she'll love it!"
If she doesn't, I'm siccing Monoma on you.
Erma, Izuku, and Momo all walked down the hall toward the Support Studio. Erma bounced up and down on her toes, ready to see him doing his blacksmithing work. She'd never really seen people doing that in real life. Even when she visited Yureimoto Village she never checked that out.
Momo walked cheerfully next to her. She'd been happy to join when Izuku invited her.
"Yaoyorozu?" Izuku said, with far more confidence than was normal for him.
"Yes Midoriya?" Momo said.
You remember Yosetsu Awase right? From Class B?"
"Yes of course! He saved my life at the training camp."
"He crafts things in UA's forge at the Support Studio," Izuku said. "Erma's been watching him the last few days, and I was invited too. It's really interesting and he's quite skilled. Since your quirk involves creation, I thought you might appreciate his work. So I asked if we could bring you along and he agreed."
"Oh," Momo said, "I'd hate to impose-"
"Don't worry," Izuku said with a bright smile. "He said we could, and I think he'd love to see you there."
"Well, alright. I'll gladly come!"
They walked in, where Yosetsu was waiting, looking nervous. Did he not like so many people watching him? Should some of them leave?
"Hello Awase!" Momo said.
"Momo," he said with that same shyness he'd shown when first talking to Erma.
"Midoriya spoke highly of your work here. I wanted to see it for myself, if you'd show us of course."
Yosetsu threw a confused look at Izuku, then said, "Oh sure. It's nothing special." He turned to his forge. "I just like to make this stuff in my spare time. Been doing it since I was a kid. Nothing like the stuff you make."
"I have my quirk to do that," Momo said, looking at the metal crane Erma was levitating. "It's impressive you learned to make these yourself." She picked it up. "Hmmm…this metal is flawed. Would you like me to provide better materials?"
"No, that's fine," he said. "They let me use the stuff they don't want for the Support studio. I'm surprised you noticed."
"Yes," Momo said, "When you need to know an object's molecular composition to create it, you learn to notice such things. I'm impressed you made such good work with substandard materials. You must be quite skilled!"
Yosetsu smiled as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh I wouldn't go that far. But I could show you how we make these the old fashioned way."
"I would love that!" she said.
Erma Izuku hung back and watched as Awase worked, with Momo and him occasionally talking about the various techniques and materials he used. Izuku looked quite proud as they bonded.
Perhaps that was why he'd brought Momo here. He thought they'd become friends, and was now watching his plan succeed. Erma smiled at him. He grinned back, and stood next to her, looking more cheerful than he'd been in several days.
Isn't Izuku so kind, to have facilitated that meeting for purely altruistic reasons?
Hope you enjoyed! Comments and kudos bring joy!
