Chapter 17

The Catch of the Day

AN: So Chapter 17 is out and like I said last time we're back to the main plot. This is a battle packed chapter. This time we have an adventure with a friend again this is based heavily on the game so I bet some, probably most of you know what's going to happen in this chapter. Hope you like it.

So it was just another day in Springdale, Nate was just watching TV with

Jibanyan and Whisper. It was just him today his dad was working and his mom was out shopping for groceries. So no one else was there when the doorbell rang.

Whisper said, "oh someone is at the door, Nate."

Nate said, "yeah I better go get it." So Nate walked over to the door and to his surprise

Bear was outside his door panting.

Nate asked, "Woah Bear what happened."

Bear said, "I… *huff* have an *huff* emergency!"

Nate asked, "what's wrong."

Bear said, "Well, Um it's a big issue I… lost my mother's engagement ring."

Nate and Whisper simultaneously said, "WHAT!?"

Whisper said, "How can you lose something that important."

Bear said, "You heard me, I lost my mother's engagement ring."

Nate said, "really!?"

Bear said, "Really, that's why I ran over here."

Nate asked, "What happened?"

Whisper said, "Oh well I bet it is one of those classic problems. You know dropping it in the drain, slipping under the fridge, or just misplacing it."

Bear said, "I lost it in catfish pond."

Nate and Whisper said, "WHAT?!"

Bear said, "Yeah, so I was fishing at catfish pond and I was using my mom's ring as bait since it was so shiny and then I… I… I just lost it."

Nate asked, "Uh what did your mom say?"

Bear said, "I haven't told her yet but I told my dad and he was really angry. He said I had to find the ring, oh I am in so much trouble if I don't."

Nate said, "So you want me to help right?"

Bear said, "Yeah you were the closest guy and I need to do this before my mom leaves on her trip. You said you would help me right?" Nate thought in his mind Wow the closest guy I am so touched.

Nate said, "Yeah, so let's go."

Bear said, "Thanks, Nate."

So Nate and Bear ran up Mountwildwood with Whisper following them. Jibanyan stayed at home since he was lazy and Nate could just summon him if Nate needed him.

The two boys went past the shrine into a small pond filled with fish in the bamboo forest.

Nate asked, "So what made you want to use your mother's engagement ring to fish?"

Bear said, "Well lately I have been overhearing my mom talk in the night to my dad and she seems so unhappy but I heard about how the biggest fish can be caught at catfish pond with shiny things and so I set out to catch the biggest fish, the king of catfish pond, with the shiniest thing I could find. Which was I ring I found in my dad's workshop. I didn't know it was my mom's ring. So now we gotta find it."

Nate said, "Don't worry we will find it."

Whisper said, "Wow that is a big pond how are you ever going to find it what if a fish ate it."

Nate said, "We'll just have to keep looking."

Nate, Bear, and Whisper looked for the ring for over an hour but they had no luck.

Bear said, "It's hopeless we're never going to find it a fish probably got it and now it's gone forever."

Nate said, "Oh Bear."

Whisper said, "It looks like Bear has given up."

Nate said, "We gotta do something."

Whisper exclaimed, "Ah what if we summon Walkappa he is bound to be able to find it. I am certain he can find it he is a great swimmer."

Nate said, "Great idea Whisper it's worth a try." Nate grabbed the kappa yo-kai's medal from his pocket and said, "okay come on out my yo-kai friend, calling Walkappa, Yo-kai medal do your thing." Nate inserted the medal and out came a swirl of pink ruin covered light from his watch.

The kappa yo-kai appeared in front of him and said, "Hey dude, what's shaking? How are you?"

Nate said, "Um well not that good my friend Bear lost his mother's ring and can't find it."

Whisper said, "He dropped it in this pond think you can help."

Walkappa said, "Sure man! Anything for a friend. Don't worry I'll find this as quick as possible." Walkappa jumped into the water with a splash which startled Bear. Walkappa did a few flips and tricks and swam extremely fast in the water.

Bear was so confused by all the fast and random splashes he said, "What's going on?"

Then Walkappa said, "found it!" holding out the ring.

But then a loud voice boomed, "ATTENTION ALL SWIMMERS! NO WILD SWIMMING ALLOWED." Then a giant boat popped out of the water with a giant human looking Yo-kai that looked like a sailor with a giant fishing rod on his head. He looked very angry.

Bear said, "Woah that was a giant splash what's going on?"

Nate said, "What the? Who is that Yo-kai."

Whisper looked through his Yo-kai pad frantically but said, "Um… uh… I don't know I can't find him on the Yo-kai pad."

Walkappa looked behind him and became scared.

The Yo-kai said, "I am SV Snaggerjag and I will not tolerate any of this rule-breaking nonsense. That's it you need to learn to respect this lake." SV Snaggerjag leaned back in his boat and whipped his fishing line right at Walkappa smacking him away.

Nate said, "No Walkappa." and both the human and his Yo-kai butler ran over to the hit kappa. Bear was still confused.

Walkappa said, "I'm fine. Here take the ring I got to show this guy what kappas are made of."

Whisper said, "Oh but you must have taken a lot of damage from that attack."

Walkappa said, "Yeah but I can still fight okay take this, you big dummy." Walkappa created a blast of water that hit SV Snaggerjag but he just wiped the attack away it barely did anything."

SV Snaggerjag said, "Oh you're getting it now boy." and he dipped his rod into the water to summon a fish from the water it was a red fish that looked angry.

Nate said, "That's not fair now it's two against one."

Whisper said, "Why don't you even the odds Nate."

Nate said, "Yeah, Okay calling all my yo-kai friends. Yo-kai medals do your thing." The wheel formed on his watch and the hands spun landing on Robonyan.

Robonyan! And friends.

Robonyan appeared alongside his present-day counterpart as well Blazion, and Komajiro, and Komasan.

Jibanyan whined, "Uh why did you call me nyate the show was just getting to the good part."

Robonyan patted him on the shoulder and said, "Fear not my friend for I have recorded it so you can watch it when we get back."

Jibanyan looked around to see Walkappa, Komasan, Komajiro, Blazion, and Robonyan all with him and he realized, "Wait if we're all here then, there must be a powerful Yo-kai. Yeah, I can't wait I have been itching for a good battle."

Blazion said, "Rah rah-rah."

Whisper said, "He said that's the spirit, me too."

SV Snaggerjag said, "You say I'm no fair, you just made things a seven on two."
Whisper said, "Oh no no I won't be fighting."

SV Snaggerjag said, "Well you looked too weak to be battling but still it's a six against two well I guess I'll just even the odds myself and still beat you." SV Snaggerjag pulled a second now bluefish from the water. "Now we fight." SV Snaggerjag flicked his line and hit Robonyan who tried to go in for an aerial assault. Blazion hesitated but then ran through the water recklessly. Jibanyan and Walkappa ran forward too. Komasan and Komajiro stayed back. Blazion was hit by a bolt of water from the bluefish and Jibanyan got caught in a fight with the redfish and Walkappa tried to help. Komasan formed and threw a ball of hot fire at SV Snaggerjag but the bluefish shot another bolt of water putting out the blazing ball. Komajiro was a bit more successful zapping SV Snaggerjag with a bolt of lightning. SV Snaggerjag felt a good deal of pain from that.

Nate said, "Good job Komajiro, you get him next time Komasan."

Whisper said, "You know Nate you don't really have the best team for dealing with water situations you know. I mean you have three fire attributed Yo-kai."

Nate asked, "Attributed?"

Whisper explained, "Well you see Nate every yo-kai has an element they are related to that's called an attribute. There are eight in total. We have fire which is strong against ice which is strong against wind which is strong against earth which is strong against lightning which is strong against water which is strong against fire. Then there is drain and healing. Which are in relation to pure energy rather than elements. Here we have a clearly powerful water yo-kai. Of course, you have Walkappa who is good in water and Komajiro who can pack an extra powerful zap but then you have three yo-kai of the fire attribute. Jibanyan, Komasan, and Blazion are all fire attributed they are going to be vulnerable here."

Nate said, "That's not good but what about Robonyan."

Whisper said, "Robonyan is an earth attribute so he is neutral both ways."

Nate said, "Well Maybe SV Snaggerjag can be reasoned with."

Whisper said, "I don't think so he seems to be like those other two powerful Yo-kai overwhelmingly strong compared to other yo-kai I think he is some sort of lake guardian."

Nate said, "Only one way to find out." Nate ran up a bit closer and prepared his watch he activated its pin feature and shot the needle at SV Snaggerjag who didn't notice because he was too busy taking out another fish from the lake. Nate ran back and asked, "So what did it say?"

Whisper got out his Yo-kai pad and said, "Oh, here it is it says he is a powerful lake guardian who protects this lake. He is a skilled fisherman known for catching the king of catfish pond. He mostly only attacks with his hook but he also summons a lot of fish to help him fight. You may want to take out some fish before there are too many."

Nate said, "Okay now for the fish." Nate recalled the pin and hit one of the fish.

Whisper said, "Oh so this redfish is called, Grumpus and quite a grumpy fish it is it will mostly just attack physically by headbutting or fish slapping."

Nate said, "Now let's see about bluey here." and he hit the bluefish with the pin now.

Whisper said, "Oh this is Shuter it prefers to stay back and hit Yo-kai with blasts of water."

Nate said, "Okay then Jibanyan use paws of fury."

Jibanyan said, "Okay Nyate." and he jumped away from the Grumpus he was fighting and then said, "Paws of Fury." as he unleashed a barrage of unrelenting punches that hit all three fish yo-kai knocking them all out and doing quite a bit of damage to SV Snaggerjag.

Nate gave Jibanyan a thumbs up.

SV Snaggerjag bellowed, "HOW DARE YOU! Now I am going to have to summon more fish." SV Snaggerjag immediately pulled out another fish this one was green and it healed the fisherman.

Nate hit the green fish with the pin.

Whisper said, "Oh this green fish is called Meditatum he is a healing yo-kai."

Nate said, "Then we better get rid of him quickly." so Nate left the pin on it and let Jibanyan, Walkappa, and everyone else do the rest.

SV Snaggerjag smacked Jibanyan away with his hook and then pull out another Grumpus to help fight. Grumpus helped protect Meditatum and fought off Walkappa and took hits from Robonyan who was dealing a lot of damage. Eventually, Robonyan took out both fish Yo-kai with a pair of rocket fists much to Snaggerjag's annoyance.

SV Snaggerjag said, "That's it you gotta go." SV Snaggerjag then flung his line up and hooked Robonyan.

Robonyan said, "Hey, what are you doing, this is not in my programming."

SV Snaggerjag then said, "Ha I caught you." and then slammed Robonyan into the water a few times before saying, "Wow this one's a fighter better let it go." Robonyan struggled but it was no use. SV Snaggerjag flung Robonyan away. Robonyan skidded through the water and mud only to crash into a tree.

"Urh I, urm waterlogged, too much damage taken systems failing I'll be back," said Robonyan disappearing into a portal into the future.

Nate said, "Dang it, we lost Robonyan."

Whisper said, "Yes he was a powerful fighter but look it seems like SV Snaggerjag is getting tired."

Komajiro said, "Yeah you bet he is." shooting another jolt at the fisher yo-kai.

Komasan said, "Yeah darn right he is." as he hit SV Snaggerjag with a ball of flames.

Blazion said, "Blaze blaze." punching and kicking SV Snaggerjag.

Jibanyan said, "You're finished Nyan."

SV Snaggerjag said, "No I'm not." as he flicked away all three with his hook.

Blazion and Jibanyan were getting tired both were panting.

Whisper said, "I don't think they can take much more of this."

SV Snaggerjag said, "Now to do some quick fishing." and he used his hook to pull out all three types of fish.

Nate said, "Quick Blazion use Blazing fist and Komasan help him out."

Blazion said, "Rah rah raw. Blazing Fist." Blazion jumped and spun in the air then like a rocket zoomed down with one flaming burning fist in front.

Komasan said, "Happy to help. Spirit Dance." Komasan summoned Will-o-wisps everywhere and used them to surround Blazion making his flames brighter and his attack stronger.

SV Snaggerjag said, "Shuter use your water attack." Shuter nodded and then let out a barrage of water attacks putting the flames on Blazion out canceling his attack.

Nate said, "What?!"

Whisper said, "See the power of attributes."

SV Snaggerjag said, "Ha pathetic let me show you what a real attack is like." He dipped his line in the water and all three fish started to swim in fast circles around him, "A Fisher's Life!" the water below him became a whirlpool and he yanged out his line with a great tug what happened next amazed everyone. SV Snaggerjag pulled out a giant fish a fish bigger than even himself. It was the true king of catfish pond. Even Bear saw it and he was amazed.

Nate was only able to say, "Walkappa try to counter it."

Walkappa was still in awe of the fish but tried his best, "Okay sure man Mega Waterfall." Walkappa used the water from the lake to summon a giant torrent of water but the king of catfish pond was able to shoot an even stronger stream of water. The two water blasts fought but the water attack from the king of catfish pond was too strong and easily crushed Walkappa's attack. The attack crashed down on all Nate's yo-kai friends knocking out Komasan, Blazion, and Jibanyan while leaving Komajiro and Walkappa very weak.

Nate and Walkappa both said, "That was a lot of power."

Whisper said, "Oh no that took out Jibanyan, Blazion, and Komasan."
Komajiro said, "No, Brother!"

SV Snaggerjag said, "Haha see you can't beat me here I am too strong that was a pitiful attack you dumb kappa when compared to mine. Now look at the odds it's four vs two." SV Snaggerjag was with his three fish companions while it was only Walkappa and Komajiro left.

Komajiro said, "I'll make things even for my brother, Wild Zaps." Komajiro created a massive storm cloud above Catfish Pond and sent a burst of lightning strikes from it before it disappeared.

SV Snaggerjag said, "AWH." The lightning not only did crazy damage to SV Snaggerjag but it completely fried all his fish.

Nate said, "Yeah Komajiro, great job."

SV Snaggerjag said, "OH YOU'RE GONNA GET IT NOW." SV Snaggerjag spun his hook around and then flung it at Komajiro at high speeds. Komajiro braced for impact but the hook never came. Walkappa got in the way and blocked it he was holding it back with his bare hands. He struggled but held on.

He said, "Urh Thanks Komajiro you really saved us from those fish now all that's left is this big guy. Thank you too, Nate I don't think I would have lasted this long alone but now to show this guy what Kappas are made of. You may be a big strong fisher but you will never know the water like a kappa." Walkappa then shoved the hook away and became surrounded in light. A noise like the voice from the yo-kai watch came.

This amazed everyone where Walkappa once stood there was a new Yo-kai, this one had long green leaf-like hair with a red bead at the end, he was also a bit taller, and instead of a water bottle, he wore a necklace, he also now wore a Hakama. He looked ready to fight unlike the carefree walkappa especially since he was equipped with a Katana made of water.

Nate said, "Woah is that Walkappa."

Whisper said, "No this is a whole new Yo-kai this a warrior Kappa it seems Walkappa has finally started to take things seriously and has evolved into the powerful warrior yo-kai Appak."

Appak said, "now I'll be the one to teach you a lesson." Appak then jumped and cut off SV Snaggerjag's hook.

Nate, Whisper, and Komajiro were all amazed.

SV Snaggerjag said, "No my hook you can't do that."

Appak said, "I just did now to finish you off. Torrent Slash." Appak brought his other

hand to his sword and the water blade then gushed like a torrent and Appak spun and slashed SV Snaggerjag with his blade of water completely knocking the fisherman out. Appak then put his sword on his back and walked back to Nate.

Nate said, "wow Walka— Ur I mean Appak that was amazing you're so strong now."

Komajiro said, "yeah you were incredible."

Appak said, "thanks I really feel good that was exhilarating I had a lot of fun. Oh and

here is the ring." Appak then gave Nate the ring.

Whisper said, "I know it's not every day that a yo-kai evolves and all but shouldn't you

heal all the other yo-kai Nate."

Nate said, "oh yeah uh but I ran out of that mighty medicine I guess I'll just have to use

this bitter medicine." So after forcing Blazion, Komasan, and Jibanyan who put up the biggest fight the bitter purple powder, Nate said, "Here Bear look during all the chaos I found the ring."

Bear said, "Wow I guess this was a pretty cool day I mean I find my mom's ring and I

get to see the king of Catfish pond. That was amazing I mean it was super huge. There is no way I could catch that thing I mean it caused so much chaos in just this lake so I don't think I could even get it close to the surface of the water."

Nate said, "I guess but it was just cool to see right."

Bear said, "Yeah so let's go I gotta get this to my mom."

Nate said, "yeah just give me one sec I'll catch up."

Bear said, "okay."

Nate said, "thanks again, guys."

Appak said, "it was cool dude."

Jibanyan said, "yeah Nyate."

Blazion said, "Rah rah."

Whisper said, "he said it was great exercise."

Komasan said, "things got swirly for a second but I am glad to hear Komajiro had fun."

Komajiro said, "yeah I could feel myself get stronger."

Appak said, "Hey why don't we all just fish here now Blazion can cook and I can catch."

Komajiro said, "My bro can catch too he's a great fisher."

Komasan said, "awe sucks you're making me blush."

Jibanyan said, "and I can eat fish cool." Just then SV Snaggerjag got up and all the

yo-kai got into their fighting stances.

SV Snaggerjag said, "wait wait I don't wanna fight I just wanted to tell you guys to that

swimming isn't allowed the splashing scares the fish sorry I overreacted before it's just I really care about the fish that live here."

Nate said, "oh sorry we didn't mean to disturb this place we were just looking for my

friend's ring."

Appak said, "me too I apologize for all the splashing. I'll remember to be careful of this

spot."

SV Snaggerjag said, "thank you I really appreciate that." So SV Snaggerjag then

disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Nate said, "you guys have fun now."

Jibanyan said, "we will, I get to eat yummy fish."

So Nate ran after his friend with Whisper following close behind.

Nate and Bear walked down to his house Nate and Bear talked about the giant fish and how cool it was.

Bear said, "Thanks again for helping me find that ring, I can believe it."
Nate said, "You're welcome Bear, just happy to help you out."

Bear said, "Well thanks for coming with me I know it's pathetic but I am sort of scared. I am going to have to come up with one good apology."

Nate said, "No Problem, and don't worry I bet things will go well."

Whisper said, "Wow so big tough Bear is really just a big old softy."

Nate said, "Yeah that's how he is he acts tough but he is just a nice guy."

Bear said, "I guess it's now or never."

Nate said, "Oh no we're too late."

Bear's Mom said, "And you're sure that you'll be okay without me."

Bear's Dad said, "I'll figure something out. Don't worry. I'll make sure Barnaby understands."

Bear's Mom said, "I wrote down everything you'll need to know."

Bear said, "Mom, I'm so sorry. I felt horrible so I went to go look for your ring."

Bear's Mom said, "Oh don't worry about that one pokie Bear. It was a cheap old thing anyway."

Bear's Dad exclaimed, "What Cheap you gotta be kidding me that's the ring I used to propose to you."

Bear's Mom said, "What are you talking about I got that ring out of a vending machine. Did you really forget which ring you proposed to me with."

Bear's Dad said, "No…"
Bear's Mom said, "*sigh* well I hope you are okay pokie Bear while I'm gone I am leaving you with this fool, I am so glad he got your kindness rather than your brains dear. You know I don't ever take off my ring. I'm gonna show it off at my class reunion."

Bear exclaimed, "Class reunion?!"

Bear's Mom said, "Yup you two take care of each other while I'm gone."

Nate said, "Oh that's good Bear's mom is just going to a class reunion."

Whisper said, "At least have grown closer to Bear now it seems he likes Mount Wildwood quite a bit."

Nate said, "Yeah."

Bear said, "Thanks again, Nate."

Nate said, "No problem see you."

Bear said, "Bye Nate."

Back at Mount Wildwood at Catfish Pond, everyone left it they had their fun but after a few fish, they left it was still daylight and SV Snaggerjag was still there but he wasn't alone.

SV Snaggerjag was just minding his own business when a mysterious voice said, "Oh I could use a lake guardian like you."

SV Snaggerjag said, "What who's there? I won't let you harm this lake."

The voice said, "Don't worry I won't harm a single drop in this lake I can't say the same for you though." An eerie purple light came from nowhere and just like a scared fish SV Snaggerjag disappeared to the dismay of all the fish.

AN: So that was chapter 17, So first off Walkappa evolved! Exciting right and this is a permanent thing sorry Walkappa fans but Appak will keep the same personality of Walkappa outside of battle, oh and we had another boss fight it's been quite a while since we've had one of those, hasn't it? If that's what you've been wanting then you are in for a treat for the next few chapters it won't be boss string boss. I don't want to have two in a row but I will have another very soon. I will not tell which one or exactly when so you'll just have to keep an eye out. Speaking of which the reason I took a bit longer than usual is because I now have a side project. I am working on a collaboration, OC driven, 4-way cross over between Pokemon, Yo-kai watch, Digimon, and Yu-gi-oh called Chronicles of the virtual heroes. I really enjoyed making both of these and they are completely different so if you have the time check it out because chapter 1 is out. Anyway hope you liked chapter 17, please review.
