Beginning A/N: I wrote this idea down driving to a doctors appointment and was so excited I had to start it right now. I know it's late. (11PM for me) butI can't stop myself!
a few things: inspired by the first basic idea I had but heavily influenced by the idea behind 'what was I made for' by Billie Eilish. Also, it's been written in a half asleep excited craze so let me know what you think!
ps. I will be continuing last name if you are here from a notification because you followed me as a author :P
Chapter 1
"Isabellaaaaa!" Alice's sing song voice echoed across the large clearing causing Bella to halt her stalking of the small deer that now knew it was in incredible danger. It darted off and Bella waited patiently, sure that her sister in law would materialize momentarily.
"Alice? I lost my deer." The barest hint of a pout in her voice as Alice appeared beside her.
"Oh it's alright Isabella, here." A small bag of deer blood was placed in her hands before Alice grabbed her gently by the shoulder and started her towards the cabin. "Besides, Carlisle asked us all to be home for a meeting and I can see that you're going to love it!" The pixie sing songed the last few words to Bella; who rolled her eyes in feigned annoyance and finished the bag of blood as they arrived in the living room.
"Isabella," familiar arms enveloped her in a gentle embrace from behind and she hummed in approval and greeting; leaning back into Edward's embrace. His nose ran gently along the part of her neck that met her shoulder as he began to sway her. "How was your hunt?"
"Short," She sighed softly, showing the now empty bag of blood like a dejected trophy. "Alice said to come home for the meeting and I know I needed time to get changed. I can't attend in this." She stepped out of his arms far enough to turn around and gesture at the soft running skort that stopped above her knees she currently donned paired with a matching powder blue long sleeve top.
Edward tsked and nodded in agreement, his nimble fingers reaching out to catch the material of her sleeve in his grasp to expose a small tear halfway up her arm. He had begun to open his mouth to agree when Alice was suddenly at their side. Her fingers intertwining with Bella's to pull her upstairs while calling back to Edward.
"I have just the thing and everyone will love it!"
Her husband's soft chuckle was the only response as Bella took her place in the chair Alice kept at her vanity for 'Bella Barbie' time.
"Jasper." she smiled brightly to the blonde sprawled across Alice's chaise with a book in his hand. He smiled in kind and rose from his spot to give them privacy, as Alice had begun rifling through her closet for clothes.
"Bella," Jasper drawled in return; both he and Bella ignoring the way Alice's nose crinkled in distaste at the sound of the old nickname she no longer used. He stopped to give a sweet kiss to Alice's cheek before dismissing himself to another room in the house, the soft click of the lock behind him the only sound in the room until Alice put on the CD Edward had recorded of his piano music. Her lullaby began to fill the air around them as Alice fussed with Bella's hair.
"If you don't like when he uses that name I can tell him something Isabella, honest. You wouldn't hurt his feelings." Bella obediently took hold of the section of hair Alice handed to her while Alice spoke and knowing better than to shake her head while Alice was working on her hair she answered instead with "It's alright Alice, it's just a nickname. Besides, you know Em still calls me Bells."
Bella made a mental note to call him soon.
"I know, I just know you prefer Isabella and have since Renesmee and Jacob went to Brazil." Alice sighed softly, taking the section of hair from Bella's hand before adding it to the rest of the hair style.
It was true that since the decision for everyone to split she had stopped using Bella as a nickname. It had made the most sense since Edward and Alice didn't want to use it anyway. Not to mention Emmet would have been the only one to challenge that choice and he wasn't with them currently.. after their move from Denali the family had decided it best to separate as they had been under much scrutiny living with the Denali coven. Rosalie and Emmet has chosen to go to the families Knoxville home, Renesmee and Jacob had chosen Esme Island, and Esme and Carlisle had gone to London before deciding to come to Ithaca to be with Edward, Bella, Jasper, and Alice about 5 years ago.
With her hair and make up complete, Alice shooed her into the small dressing room she had made Jasper build her for the moments a 'outfit montage' were necessary for Bella. To Bella's surprise there was only one dress on the hook in her small dressing room. A simple pastel green dress that was vintage from 1960 in style, with a sweetheart neckline and sleeves that stopped just below Bella's elbows. The flowing skirt stopped just shy of the middle of her shins.
"This really is a beautiful dress Alice. " Bella murmured as she came out and smoothed the skirt down while stepping into the short black micro heeled shoes Alice had taken to dressing her in. The pixie's squeal overtook the soft music playing "I just knew you'd look amazing!" Alice came over and encircled Bella, studying her as though she really were a doll which needed to be checked for imperfections.
"Just in time, Carlisle will be home any second." Edward and Jasper were playing piano and reading respectively in the cozy living room while Esme had begun taking photos down to dust as she often did when she had nervous or excited energy pent up.
Everyone said their hellos again and Alice immediately settling into soft whispers with Jasper on the couch while Bella took her seat beside Edward hat his piano, taking care to tuck the skirt of her dress behind her knees. "A new piece?" She asked as she looked over the partially completed page. Edward nodded and continued to play the last riff of notes several times over, the space between his brows creasing. "I can't seem to get past this single part. I don't want to continue on in a way one might expect but everything I can think to try is painfully different."
The familiar sound of Carlisle's car began to come up the street and Bella took his momentary distraction to reach over and smooth the space with her thumb. His hang flitted up to catch hers in his and run his thumb along the back of her flesh.
"I'm sure it will come to you, Son." Came Carlisle's own answer to the conversation alerting them all to his presence finally. How he managed to move silently even for a vampire, Bella would never know.
Edward immediately gently released Bella's hand and rose from his place on the bench to greet him with a clasp of hands before taking his seat once more as Esme greeted Carlisle with a kiss and took his bag from his grasp as she did. "And how was your day, dear?" Esme spoke softly as she moved to put his bag away in the closet beside the entryway. They all did, no longer having to be loud for the sake of the poor human.
"I was wonderful, love, if a bit long." His smile beamed directly at Esme, and it was obvious to everyone in the room she felt it when she began cleaning again with gusto and a small smile on her face.
Carlisle turned to his four children and his smile softened, though still affectionate. "Everyone, you must be wondering what news I have that could possibly be so important." He chuckled to himself and sighed "since Alice has already seen the news and Edward and I have already spoken then I suppose just really Bella is wondering." Which was true enough. If Alice saw it she definitely told her mate, and if Carlisle was finally telling her then Edward had undoubtedly decided the information was important.
Bella shoved down the ghost pang of what could have been annoyance and laughed with the rest of the house. "I'm sure I'll love it if Alice says I will."
Carlisle, still with his smile in place, nodded and took a seat on the couch to settle in. "Yes well, as it's been some time since our entire family was together, after meeting with Rosalie and Emmet last week we've agreed it might be time enough for us to move back to Washington."
The pricking on the back of her neck altered her to the fact that every pair of eyes was on her waiting for her reaction and it was genuine when her mouth split into a large grin. "Really?? You think it's been long enough?"
Carlisle nodded but Edward spoke, drawing Bella's gaze away. "I took the liberty of scouting the city when I last went hunting with the Denalis and everyone who would be a risk has since moved on or passed." He nodded and put a hand on her knee, giving it a gentle squeeze.
"We leave in a few days time. Emmet and Rosalie are already in forks cleaning the house and removing any unneeded pets from the attic." Esme chirped happily boxes of dust drapes having been pulled out from where they kept them in the kitchen cabinets.
Unable to resist the joy inside her she ignored his PDA rule and threw her arms around him tightly, squeezing until he laughed and gently pulled her arms from around his neck.
He shifted uncomfortably and Bella had the consideration to appear embarrassed by their sudden display of affection in front of his family.
"Oh we are going to have so much fun in high school!" Alice squealed, her mind apparently already going seven. Million miles an hour, undoubtedly planning her and Bella's outfits for every day and hour.
"We-we're going to be students?" The question was out in an unflattering tone before Bella could rein it in. Edward's hand that had kept one of hers after pulling from their hug tightened ever so slightly around her.
"It seemed best for us, love. I want only for you to be safe." Came Edward's gentle answer.
All Bella could think about was how much she had NOT missed high school.
