Chapter 17: Hell Sing

"Kartishyn Tinare!"

Akko wasted no time and cast out a giant flaming toward Merlin and Lilith. As the cat girl moved out of the way with ridiculous speed, the old vampire stayed perfectly still with a calm expression. The flaming ball made contact and exploded— the entire kitchen was covered in smoke and embers.

After letting out a few loud coughs due to the smoke, Akko looked ahead with anticipation.

"Did I get him?"

As the smoke faded away, it showed Merlin— still standing in the same exact position. Not even a speck of dirt was on his cloak.

"W-what!?" Akko said aloud in shock. "How did he—"

"Hey, kid~?"

Lilith appeared in front of Akko, her piercing animalistic eyes showcasing ferocious malice. The brunette did not have time to dodge or counter as the cat girl delivered a powerful kick to her stomach. Akko was then launched into the kitchen's back wall, forming a massive crack in its formation. For a second, Akko was delirious but she quickly shook her head and regained focus. Lilith did not let up and charged at Akko with her sharp claws out.

"Oh crap—"

In the nick of time, Akko managed to avoid the claw strikes of Lilith. Large scratch marks were left on the already broken wall. Akko then rolled out of the way and hurried to the other side of the kitchen table. Lilith was on the other side as she held up her left hand towards the young witch.

"Lankabahu Jawana!"

Appearing out of Lilith's hand was a yellow and blue orb emitting electricity. Firing off from the orb was a razor-sharp bolt of lightning. The spear of lightning almost pierced Akko, but the girl managed to duck just in time before she was hit.

"Get away from me!"

Akko then flipped over the table that was in between her and Lilith— the front of the table began to block the cat girl's view of her opponent. However, not even a second later, Lilith sliced the wooden table in two with her claws and stared at Akko who had her wand pointed at her face. The brunette witch fired multiple magical blasts at close range but in the end, they did no significant damage to the together.

As the blasts got closer, Lilith opened her mouth as wide as she possibly could and swallowed them whole.

"WHAT!?"

Akko screamed at the top of her lungs, her eyes expanding as if they would pop out of her sockets.

After swallowing the magic balls, Lilith giggled and licked her lips. She then let out a small burp and covered her lips.

"Sorry~! That was unlady-like~!"

Lilith then threw her head back and puffed up her cheeks.

"W-what she is doing now?"

Akko said to herself as she jumped back.

Like a dragon, Lilith spewed out a large flow of purple fire which was pure magic right at Akko. The brunette was quick to cast a barrier spell to avoid getting hit directly but Lilith managed to quickly close the distance between them.

"Hah!"

With a wide grin, Lilith slammed her palm right into Akko's stomach. To a normal human, it may have seemed that Lilith only hit Akko once, but in truth, Akko was hit around ten times in the span of a second. All the air left Akko's lungs and she felt as if the intestines within her body were crushed. The force of the attack threw Akko to the ground— the girl clutched her stomach as she groaned in pain.

"Fros Jawana!"

A massive thunderbolt rained down on Akko, electrocuting the poor half-vampire girl as she shrieked. Once it was over, Akko was covered in soot and wounds.

"That amount of electricity would usually kill a normal human, but you took it like a champ! Isn't being a vampire amazing~?"

Akko quickly got back up and threw something at Lilith. It was a red liquid that got in her eyes. The moment the liquid touched Lilith's eyeballs, the cat girl screamed as a burning sensation overpowered her.

"IS THAT THE DAMN HOT SAUCE!?"

Akko got back to her feet and stuck her tongue out at Lilith.

"That's what you get jerk!"

Merlin was on the other side of the room with a nonchalant expression, simply blinking at the bizarre scene before him.

"...Really?"

Enraged, Lilith threw herself at Akko and punched her into the wall with so much force.

POW!

As Akko slammed into the wall, she kicked off of it, flying towards Lilith with her wand aimed at her. She fired a variety of spells meant to hurt the cat girl, but each was either blocked or avoided with ease.

As Akko landed back onto the ground, she pointed her wand at herself and yelled out her iconic spell.

"Metamorphie Fociesse!"

The Japanese girl was engulfed in a puff of smoke and came out as a bunny girl. Merlin's eyes widened in interest.

"You seem to have a great aptitude for transformation magic Atsuko Kagari. Very impressive."

"You haven't seen nothing yet you old bag of bones! Vega Walras!"

Magical energy flowed through the legs of Akko. Immediately afterward, the bunny girl started bouncing around the kitchen with incredible speed. Each time she bounced off the walls and floor of the room, it left a massive crater.

"She infused her body with strengthening magic to ensure her heightened abilities improve…"

"Heh! Like that matters!"

Lilith charged up her hands with magical energy and tried to strike Akko, but unlike before she was unable to hit her. Akko gracefully dodged the attacks of Lilith, doing backflips and twirling around the room. And each time Lilith missed, she paid for it with a blast to the side of the back of her head.

"You brat!"

While the damage was not much, Lilith was starting to get incredibly annoyed. The moment was close enough her cat tail extended like a snake and grabbed a hold of Akko's ankle.

"OH!"

Akko was thrown into the fridge, accidentally knocking it over. Spilling out of the metal box of cold temperatures were frozen packs of blood and human body parts. The bunny girl gagged at the sight of the horrific display but quickly regained her composure as she got up and picked up the whole refrigerator.

"H-hey! That refrigerator expensive—"

Akko did not let Lilith finish as she pushed the humongous refrigerator against Lilith— crushing her against the kitchen wall. At that moment that Lilith was stuck, Akko ran off. The bunny girl ran past Merlin, who did nothing but stand and look at her with a calm expression.

"Dammit!" Akko yelled as she was running down the hallway of the mansion. "This was a mistake! Those two are too strong! I need to get the heck outta here!...Huh?"

As Akko was running, her massive ears perked up at the sound of loud stampeding coming from behind her. The bunny girl turned around to see the zombie servants chasing her, their ruined legs making them run as if they were track stars of the Olympics.

"Oh come on!"

Akko was fast but the undead maids and butlers were unrelenting. They did not even stop to take a breather as Akko was running around the whole mansion. And anytime Akko found an exit— whether it was a door or a window— the zombies were quick enough to block her path with their undead bodies.

After being blocked from the main door, Akko was finally at her patient end.

"Get out of the WAY!"

Akko fired a powerful magic blast at the zombies, scattering their body parts around the entire floor. The young witch was left speechless at the display of power she had just performed.

"Wow…I could never do spells like this before…"

"That is the benefit of being a vampire."

Akko turned around to see Merlin and Lilith who had already caught up.

"You are now an Avatar of the Planet. The benefit of such a title is that you have unlimited access to the magic of the world. Is that what witches desire? Do you not want the grand power of magic?"

"I…I do want to be better at magic…but not at the expense of my humanity!"

Akko pointed at Merlin, her eyes turning dark and red.

"Plus— how could I possibly be happy learning magic when I know there is a psycho like you and your family trying to ruin everything with your weird— Fantasia plan!"

"So what?" Lilith shouted in a mocking tone. "Are you gonna stand in our way~? Do you understand how foolish that sounds~? Even if you were a fully-fledged vampire, you are nothing compared to us!"

"Then…then I'll tell someone!" Akko declared. "I'll find someone who can stop you and tell them everything that you are up to!"

"...And who would follow you?" Merlin replied. "Who would believe the words of a disgraced, expelled, and immature witch? No one in the world believes in the existence of vampires and without definitive proof they will call you a liar."

"I am the proof!" Akko screamed as she showed the bite mark on her neck. "I'll show them that was bite and display the power of vampire—"

"That would also be a bad idea for you, Atsuko Kagari," Merlin said while shaking his head. "If you reveal your true nature the world will fear you and try to have you killed. Especially the Holy Catholic Church, whose main objective is to wipe out all undead…"

Akko tried to come up with another idea, but nothing came to mind. It was all true, Akko was alone and no form of stopping Merlin and his family of vampires. She was doomed the moment she was kidnapped and the world was doomed the moment the Shiny Rod was taken from her.

"Now, are you done making a fool of yourself~?"

Lilith disappeared and then reappeared behind Akko. She then kicked her, launching into some wooden doors that broke as her body slammed into them. As Akko got up, her body aching, she looked to see that her wand was snapped in two.

"N-no!"

But then Akko raised her head and quickly recognized the room she was in.

"This is…the weapon room Elizabeth showed me…Oh!"

The transformation spell wore off and Akko returned to her normal form. The girl got up and rushed to the end of the room. Still being displayed on the wall was the magical sword, Hrunting. Akko took the sword into her hands and managed to channel her magic through it.

"This is like a wand! Awesome!"

"Hey!"

Akko looked up to see Lilith who was growling in irritation.

"That's a very important relic! Don't go touching that!"

Akko chuckled as she took a defensive stance.

"Make me!"

Lilith scoffed as she charged up a powerful spell.

"Fine then…Kartishyn Tinare!"

Emerging from the palms of Lilith and emitting an intense pressure of heat was a gigantic fireball that flew toward Akko at an intense speed. The sight of such a big projectile made Akko fearful, but as she clutched the sword in her hands a strange determination flew through her. A dark aura surrounded her and the blade as she swung with everything that she was.

"Belga Vida!"

A deafening explosion rang throughout the mansion. The massive fireball flew back towards Lilith who was able to dissolve it with her own hands before it could do any damage. Once the fire was gone and smoke covered the room, Akko appeared in front of Lilith. The cat girl's eyes widened in shock as her enemy was able to get the drop on her.

"RAAAH!"

Akko released a fierce battle cry as she sliced through the torso of Lilith. The cat girl's upper body flew to the far side of the weapon room while her lower half fell right in front of her. Merlin was surprised but his shock was of interest.

"Hmm…look at you, Atsuko Kagari. You resemble a true vampire now…"

Akko had no clue what Merlin was talking about until she looked down at the floor to see broken glass and metal. Her reflection showed through and she did not even recognize herself. It was the same form that Akko had transformed into, during her battle in the Botanical Garden with Elizabeth.

Atsuko Kagari resembled that of a monster of the night.

"W-what…am I?"

Akko glanced at herself, scared of what she had become. But then Merlin took advantage of her confusion as he emerged in front of her. The Fantasia Staff transformed into a scythe and with a quick swing he sliced Akko's head clean off her body.

The head of Akko Kagari rolled on the floor, in shock of what just happened to her. Then Merlin cruelly picked her up from her hair and stared directly into Akko's red eyes. On his face was a look of hunger, he wanted to know more about the power of Akko Kagari.

"I think I am starting to understand why the Claimoh Solias chose you. But there is still so much I want to know! Let's go back to the library— I wish to run some tests on—"

Suddenly, a powerful wind surrounded Akko and Merlin.

"Hm?"

Both the old vampire and the young witch were confused as strong winds appeared on the inside of a house. Then the strong winds blew the head of Akko out of Merlin's hand.

"What is this?"

Catching Akko was the bright green silhouette of a person. The light faded and the person came into full view. Akko had recognized her savior as the Blue Moon Abyss Spirit she encountered. The one who gave her the choice to go to the world of her dreams. But her real name was one she knew not of. The name of one of the Nine Olde Witches— Woodward.

"How far will your villainy take you, Merlin?"

Woodward looked up at the old vampire with an expressionless face, her green eyes carried no fear and wisdom. As for Merlin, he no longer was calm instead his face had become terrible and he was gnashing his teeth like a wild dog at the spirit floating before.

For every witch in the world, she was Woodward, but to Merlin, she went by another name.

"VIVIAN!"
