Neil runs into the room as he sees Baba Chops and Simon Smoke messing with the portal. "Get away from there," says Neil. He runs to them as the portal activates and sucks them in…

Neil finds himself in a town. He looks at a newspaper. "Looks like in this dimension, I'm in Arcadia Bay, Oregon, October 2013." He then looks around. "And now I have to find two trouble-making Nightmare Critters!"
"Where did you come from," asks this 18-year-old girl.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you. I'm Neil."
"I'm Maxine Caulfield, but you can call me Max. I'm going to be attending Blackwell Academy."
"I don't suppose you've seen a stuffed sheep and a stuffed dragon," says Neil.
"You collect stuffed animals," asks Max.
"No… it's more complicated than that," says Neil.
"Well, I gotta get to class," says Max. Max walks away.

During her class with photography teacher Mark Jefferson, Max experiences a catastrophic vision of a tornado destroying a lighthouse and approaching the town.

Leaving for the restroom to regain her composure, she witnesses classmate Nathan Prescott shoot and kill a young woman in a fit of rage. In a sudden effort, she develops the ability to rewind time and saves the woman, revealed to be her childhood friend Chloe Price.

Neil searches for Baba and Simon in the lighthouse. "Why did I think they would be here," asks Neil.
"… and now I can rewind time," says Max to Chloe, "oh, hi Neil."
"Hey," says Neil. Then strange weather and other anomalies begin to occur throughout Arcadia Bay.

The next day, Max's class is halted when Kate Marsh, a fellow student who is being bullied for a viral video depicting her kissing several students at a party, commits suicide by jumping off the roof of the girls' dorm. Max uses her time powers to save her.

Neil's still looking for Baba and Simon. "Still looking for your friends," asks Max.
"They're not really my friends, but yes," says Neil.
"Well, I've decided to uncover what happened to Kate and Chloe's missing friend Rachel Amber," says Max.
Neil then finds a trail of blood. "I think I might know where they are," says Neil.
"What kind of toys are they," asks Max.

Neil, Max and Chloe break into the principal's office that night, discovering multiple clues pointing to Nathan.
...
The next morning, they sneak into the motorhome of drug dealer Frank Bowers, and learn that Rachel was in a relationship with Frank but kept it from Chloe. Max later examines a childhood photo of her and Chloe, but is suddenly transported to the day the picture was taken. She prevents Chloe's father William from dying in a traffic collision.

Max comes back. "So, you found your friends," asks Max.
"Still not my friends," says Neil.
"Hey, where's Chloe," asks Max.
"Didn't you tell me your friend was paralysed from the neck down," asks Neil.
"What," asks Max.

After fixing that, Max continues her investigations with Chloe and they discover a bunker under a derelict barn owned by the Prescotts, where they find Baba and Simon, tied up. "S'up," asks Simon.

Max and Chloe then finds Rachel's remains.
...
"You didn't tell me they were alive," says Max.
"I didn't want to," says Neil.
"Can we go home now," asks Simon.
"You can, but Chloe and me have to confront Nathan," says Max.
"Is he the guy that tied me and Simon up," asks Baba, "I want revenge!" She gets out her clever.
"Like I said, they're not my friends," says Neil.

The group hurries back to the scrapyard but are ambushed by Jefferson, who anaesthetises Max and kills Chloe with a gunshot to the head.
...
Max wakes up in a bunker and finds Baba and Simon were about to cut her open. Max pushes them off. "What is wrong with these guys," asks Max.
"They were raised by a mad scientist," says Neil, "they have issues! This is where Jefferson does things I do not want to say out loud because it's too uncomfortable!"
"I took Nathan under my wing, but then I killed him," says Jefferson. Jefferson tries to murder Max, but Max travels to the beginning of Jefferson's class. She alerts David Madsen, Chloe's stepfather and Blackwell head of security, saving herself and Chloe and leading to the arrest of Jefferson and Nathan.

"Sorry I got you guys involved in that," says Max.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," says Neil.
"Neither do we," Baba and Simon both say.
"It's better that way," says Max.
Neil, Baba, and Simon then return to their world.
