A 6 year old boy with black hair was walking down a path.

He had been spending his time learning from Prof. Oak, a renowned researcher from the Kanto Region.

Going a little further, he stumbled upon a Poliwag.

'Cool.' He thought.

The boy gave chase to it as he wanted to play a game and soon came across a blonde-haired girl after grabbing hold of it.

"Hey, are you alright?" He asked.

"N-no." She sobbed uncontrollably. "I scrapped my knee."

"Want help back to camp." A hand was extended.

"My name's Ash, by the way." The 6 year old boy introduced himself.

"I'm...Serena." She shyly responded.

Ash and Serena eventually returned to camp.

"What happened?" A brown-haired woman asked frantically.

Her name was Grace and she was Serena's mother.

A crowd had formed at this point.

"His actions led to her being found." They spoke in unison.

Prof. Oak decided to sponsor Ash in response.

"Hmm. Maybe I should consider mentoring him." He whispered.

His grandson, Gary Oak, was among the crowd and stood a few feet away from his grandfather. He stared at the ground with a expression that conveyed several emotions. The main one was envy that Ash gained attention from his grandfather, but some understanding as well because Ash aided the girl when she was injured.

Ash spent some time with Serena to make her feel better.

The two played with some of the Pokemon for several hours.

"Can Serena spend the night with us?" Ash asked his mother.

She shot a look at Grace.

"I don't have a problem with it." She agreed to the request.

To better prepare Ash for his journey, Prof. Oak offered to teach him everything he knew.

"Wow, cool." His eyes sparkled.

The prospect of learning from Prof. Oak made him happy.
