Hello,
I'm pleased to announce that this story now has over 100 followers. Thank you so much, all of you.
It would seem all my stories are doing well. 'The Disappearing Hero' will soon reach 100 while 'The Greatest Pokemon Trainer' is getting there and 'The Puzzling Adventures of Edgar Cipher' is…is…is trying it's best.
*Edgar Cipher mumbling swear words under his breath*
Sorry Edgar.
FreakyFreek- Thank you so much. I'm glad you are enjoying this. At first, I felt a little awkward writing a harem fic, but I think it's important for the character development. I'm glad that it has potential. Thank you also about the character's lore. Writing the small tales are probably my favourite part and I will definitely be writing an arc which would happen after the Phantom Lord Attack. I never really considered myself as a funny person, so I am pleased to hear that. Hope to hear more of your comments in the future.
danielsnow- Thank you for explaining your critique. I don't know what happened there, I think my mind just went blank. I'll edit it asap. I'm glad you like the scarecrow story. I was inspired by the scene in 'Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark' film where he turns into a scarecrow. I'm hoping to write more humorous stories in the near future.
Whether Night terror is dense to love depends. Humans use subtle signs to signify attraction, but Phobos are more straightforward in who's attracted to who. So, to a human he may seem dense, but to a Phobos it's perfectly normal.
Taking Mira on a job sounds interesting. I may have to think how to do that in future chapters.
djinn – Hello again, yes it was. I'm so glad people seemed to enjoy the chapter I was worried it was going to be boring. The papers are going to be a project Lucy and Levy are going to do. I want Levy to surprise Night Terror by speaking Timorin to him in later chapters.
Asi11 – Yeah, looking back at it now, I can see the mistakes. I was too excited to tell everybody about my new idea and I use Lucy as an excuse. I will try to tone it down in later chapters. However, there is definitely more to the Phobos Clan that Night Terror will not reveal and there are some things that he doesn't even know.
Corestor3rd – Hello, glad to hear from you again. As I said before, Phobos are very straightforward in romance, I will write a tale about it later. I think that Night is just used to people being scared of him, especially on jobs.
Your comment about the king is spot on. Phobos have been known to protect or destroy the royalty in the past. Like the story of the Death Scream.
I like to think that even if Night knew that Mirajane already bought a guitar when he was out, he still wouldn't have regretted going across Firore, otherwise he wouldn't have saved the princess. And, after all, Phobos are very big on going through hardships to give gifts. They value effort over material wealth, so this was a way for Night to show his appreciation for Mirajane.
Enjoy the chapt- Oh wait one moment! I forgot to mention.
I was thinking of posting a separate story for all the tales from the Tome. The tales would still be on the main story, but I thought if anybody wanted to read a tale but couldn't be bothered to look through the main story, they can just read that story instead. I'll set up a poll if you'd like to see that or you can just tell me in the reviews.
Anyway, enjoy the chapter :)
Chapter 5: The Melody of Death
Unknown Place
Kneeling in a dark room was a figure. It wore a black uniform consisting of a fastened leather duster jacket, trousers and a leather mask that covered its entire head. Its eyes glowed a red light which shone down on the blades it held in its hands.
The blades were the length of a human's forearm and incredibly sharp. They were made of metal the figure had never seen before.
So perfect.
So beautiful.
So deadly.
Slowly and gently, the figure attached the blades onto a mechanism it had on each wrist. Once it was done, it stood up.
"I'll shall carry out my master's orders," it said to itself.
"I am no longer afraid."
It lifted its left arm up and the blade shot out of the mechanism, turning his arm into a lethal weapon.
"I will kill the Night Terror."
Fairy Tail Guild
"I'm sorry Lucy, but I have no idea what this says," admitted a defeated Levy as she placed the papers Lucy had given her down on the table.
"Really not a single thing?" Lucy asked, feeling slightly disappointed.
Levy shook her head, "I mean, I can see some parts I can begin translating, but without a key I can't do anything. This language doesn't relate to any dictionary I have."
The day before, Lucy had talked to Levy about deciphering the papers she took from Everlue's mansion. Levy was cautious at first when she mentioned Night Terror, but after she showed her the papers, she was more than eager. The opportunity to study a language only spoken by a few, excited her and she worked on it all night.
However, when the two met again, Levy had to admit defeat.
"A key," Lucy mused, "what do you need?"
Levy ponded for a moment.
"Well, are there any words you know that are common in Timorin texts or do you know any particular writing styles?" Levy asked.
Lucy thought of all the stories she read, trying to think if there any common phrases. Lucy smiled and snapped her fingers.
"I know," she declared, "all stories start with 'Long ago' and the titles are always 'The story of…'," she told Levy.
Levy smiled brightly, "That narrows it down," before proceeding to scribble on a scarp piece of paper, "so 'o chionn fhada' must mean 'long ago' while 'An sgeulachd aig…' must be 'The story of…'. It's certainly a start. Are there any characters in stories?"
Lucy nodded, "There are."
"Good, do you know who Mì-fhortanach is?" Levy asked.
Lucy blinked, "Err…no they are never referred to by name and the ones that are the Phobos. And even then, they are only called by which family they belong to."
"So which family is named Mì-fhortanach?" Levy asked as she placed her pen down.
"None of them are. Are you sure it's a name?"
Levy nodded, "Yeah, it starts with a capital letter, and they are referred to throughout the text."
Lucy hummed in interest. If this is the only person named, they could be an important figure in the Phobos culture.
"That's weird," Lucy muttered.
"Do you know what's really weird," a new voice entered their discussion, "is how I haven't introduced myself to you, baby."
Lucy turned in her seat to see Loke had sat in the seat next to her. Loke was another mage of Fairy Tail. He had short orange hair, fair skin and always wore a pair of sunglasses. He was known for being a playboy and flirtish nature, something Lucy was not too thrilled about.
"I'm sorry," Lucy said with a sweat drop.
"Loke, leave her alone," Levy sighed as she continued to write on her paper.
Loke only smiled, never taking his eyes off of Lucy.
"Oh I'm only saying hello," he said, "why don't you and I g-" he stopped suddenly when he saw her Celestial Sprit Keys and gasped.
"Wait, are you a Celestial Spirit Mage!" he shouted in fear.
Lucy blinked in confusion, "Err…yeah," she confirmed.
Loke began to sweat and move away from Lucy.
"On seconds thoughts, I need to go, bye!" he said rapidly as he ran out of the door.
Lucy and Levy watched him leave with different reactions. Lucy was confused while Levy just rolled her eyes, somehow expecting his sudden departure.
"So where is Night Terror, Lucy?" Levy asked as she turned back to her.
"He told me he was going to be busy today and tomorrow," Lucy answered with a sigh, "he hasn't told me with what, though."
"Aww are you missing him all ready?" Levy teased, "Who knew you liked the tall, dark, and scary types."
Lucy's cheeks grew bright red and waved her hands dismissively.
"What!? No! It's nothing like that," she denied frantically, making Levy giggle.
"I'm just teasing you," Levy reassured her, "I'm glad that somebody is friends with him. Most members don't even bother with introducing themselves to him."
"Really?" Lucy questioned with a sad frown, "have you ever talked to him?"
Levy gave a sheepish smile and rubbed the back of her head.
"Well…. Let's just say I didn't make a good impression when I first met him…and every other time after," Levy answered, remembering when she was young, and she would scream and run away from him just for being there.
She may have been a child, but so was Night Terror and he didn't mean any harm. She still feels guilty for how she used to act around him.
"She's back!" somebody cried from the hall.
Everyone turned towards the door to see Loke with a panicked expression.
"It's Erza…she's back!"
The guild was stood shocked as the strongest female wizard was coming. Natsu and Grey even stopped fighting for once.
Lucy looked around in confusion at her guildmates' reactions.
'Who's Erza?' she thought.
Magnolia Train Station
Night Terror stepped onto the train whilst holding a white box in his clawed hands. He had to duck slightly to get in but was relieved to see he could fit properly in the carriages.
Usually, Night Terror wouldn't take trains and preferred horseback, but he had to make an exception for today. He was delivering something to Master Makarov at the Guild Master meeting and the fastest and easiest way is by train.
Night Terror marvelled at the interior of the train whilst ignoring the gasps and the often scream of terror from the passengers. He walked down the carriage trying to find an unoccupied seat when somebody called out to him.
"Night Terror, over here!" Lucy called from her seat joyfully.
Night Terror smiled from under his hood and slowly approached her.
"Good day, Miss Lucy," he greeted before turning to the others seated with her, "Mr. Grey, Mr Happy, Mr. Na…" he trailed off when he saw Natsu unconscious and lying on Erza's lap, "and Miss Erza. I see that you have returned."
Erza was a woman in her late teens. She had long red hair, fair skin, and a toned physique. She was often seen in her shiny armour and blue battle skirt.
She is one of Fairy Tail's strongest mages, possessing a magic known as Requip which allows her to store weapons and armour in pocket dimensions. She also has impressive strength and combat skills which has made her force to be reckoned with.
Night Terror thought highly of Erza, but something told him that she was weary of him. Not unfriendly, just cautious.
Erza give Night Terror a polite smile.
"Yes, and I see that you have started talking to other members of the guild," she observed.
Night Terror knew she wasn't being critical of him, but nonetheless he was still a little embarrassed.
"…Indeed," he replied hesitantly.
Lucy patted the seat next to her, inviting him to sit down which he complied.
"I haven't seen you in a while," Lucy remarked as he set the box on his lap, "What's in the box?" she asked noticing it for the first time.
"My apologies. Mhaighstir Makarov has instructed me not to reveal its contents," Night Terror told Lucy, "I am supposed to deliver it to him at the Guild Master meeting."
Lucy nodded disappointedly, but quickly got over it.
"May I ask the purpose of your journey?" Night Terror asked.
Lucy glanced at Erza and Grey as if to get permission to tell him. A curt nod from Erza allowed her to proceed.
Lucy began to tell him about how Erza overheard rumours of magical item known as Lullaby in a tavern the other day. Erza wouldn't have thought more of it until she heard the name Erigor.
"Erigor," Night Terror hummed, "as in the one that belongs to dark guild Eisenwald?" Night Terror questioned.
Erza nodded in confirmation, "Yes, he is also known as the Death God due to him only accepting assassination requests. There is also word of a new member recently joining their ranks who is rumoured to be deadly."
Lucy shivered at the thought of Erigor, but Night Terror cocked his head to the side.
"Death God. How amusing," Night Terror remarked.
Grey raised an eyebrow, "How is death amusing?" he asked critically.
Night Terror turned to him.
"I don't find death amusing, Mr. Grey. However, the fact that this man can claims to be a deity of anything is amusing to me. He is only a man and therefore vulnerable to Mì-fhortanach punishment," Night Terror explained.
Lucy eyes went wide when he said that.
'Did he say Mì-fhortanach?' she thought.
She was about to question him when he spoke to Erza.
"Would you like assistance on this job, Miss Erza?" he asked as he placed the box under his robe for safe keeping.
Erza shook her head, "Thank you, Night Terror. But I am sure we can handle it," she denied much to Lucy's shock.
Night Terror nodded in understanding. That's when he felt his instincts scream at him as if to say he was being watched. He looked down the carriage behind him, but he didn't see anything out of ordinary. However, he remembered his teachings and decided to trust his instincts.
"Pardon me," he excused himself to the others.
He stood up slowly and made his way down the carriage.
Lucy watched him leave in concern before turning to Erza.
"Why didn't you accept his help?" she asked.
Erza sighed, "I have nothing against Night Terror, he is our comrade and reliable mage. However, I have to take caution with him."
"Why?" Lucy inquired.
"Because we don't know anything about him," Grey answered as the train pulled into the station, "he's never fought or worked alongside anybody since he joined. We have no idea what he is capable of."
The train came to a stop and the group stepped off, taking their luggage with them.
"Well, I've worked alongside him and can guarantee he isn't a risk," Lucy argued firmly as they stood on the platform.
"That may be so, however the safety of our team is paramount," Erza told her as the train started to leave, "adding another unknown element could jeopardise the mission."
"Err…speaking of jeopardising the mission," Happy commented as he watched the train go down the tracks, "but we've left Natsu on the train."
The rest of the team's eyes grew wide in realisation.
Back of the Train
Night Terror inspected each of the carriages carefully, trying to find what his instincts were warning him about. Once he had reached the caboose, he admitted defeat.
"Perhaps I was mistaken," he told himself as he made his way back to his seat.
He stopped as he could sense Natsu's fear. He could sense the familiar fear associated with danger and quickly took off down towards his comrade.
With Natsu
Natsu grunted in pain as he was kicked in the stomach once more. His attacker was man with black hair tied in a short ponytail. He wore a white, high-collared shirt, aquamarine trousers, and earrings in both of his ears.
He smirked maliciously at the Natsu.
"Damn, you fairies are weak. I thought you guys were supposed to be tough," he mocked as he looked down at Natsu.
Natsu was suffering from motion sickness and was unable to fight or fend for himself. All he could do was wait for help.
The man chuckled darkly and aimed another kick at Natsu when something grabbed onto his leg. The next thing he knew, the man was thrown down the empty carriage and slammed into the oak door painfully.
Night Terror looked down at his fallen comrade and shook his head sadly.
"Your motion sickness is going to be the death of you," Night Terror sighed while Natsu groaned in pain.
The man recovered from his landing and stood shakily to his feet. He looked furiously at the person that attacked him, but that rage instantly turned into fear.
Night Terror took a step forward and observed the man before him.
"Eisenwald, I presume," Night Terror said.
The man fought down the fear and gave him a fake smirk.
"And you must be another fairy. I never heard of you, though," he told him with false bravado.
"A mistake nobody makes twice. I am the Night Terror. Surrender now or I will force you to," he threatened.
The man chuckled, "Surrender? I'm Kageyama and I don't know the meaning of it."
He outstretched his hand and pointed at Night Terror.
"Knuckle Shadow!" he ordered.
Kageyama's shadow formed a fist and sent it hurtling towards Night Terror. The Phobos stood there unflinching, unmoving as the shadow fist flew towards his face.
The attack stopped a foot in front of Night Terror.
Kageyama looked at the attack in shock and confusion. There was no reason why it should stop, however it felt like the shadow was no longer under his control.
"May I recommend learning what surrender means. I have a feeling that it will be important in the near future," Night Terror calmly said.
Kageyama began to sweat, starting to feel fear creep up to him again.
"I don't understand," he sputtered as he tried to control his power.
"I am the Night Terror; we are one with the darkness. Your power is barely a fraction of my power, Mr. Kageyama," Night Terror explained.
"What!?" Kageyama exclaimed.
"Putting it simply," Night Terror continued, "you are using a rain drop to attack an ocean," he said in a tone that Kageyama assumed was humour-filled.
"My turn," Night Terror said before he sent the Knuckle Shadow back towards Kageyama. The dark mage was hit with his own attack and was sent flying back.
When Kageyama was sent hurtling back an object flew out of his pocket and hit the floor of the train. Night Terror inspected the object and saw that it was flute made out of dark wood. On one end, it had a skull with three glowing purple eyes. Night Terror didn't need to use his senses to new that this flute was pure evil.
Kageyama recovered and saw Night Terror reach for the flute and panicked.
"Stop! Don't touch that!" he ordered firmly.
"Sorry, Mr Kageyama," Night Terror apologised as he picked up the flute, "but I hav-"
Night Terror stopped suddenly. His instincts screamed at him to move.
He dodged to the side as a sharp blade that was aimed at his back passed by him. The person wielding the blade turned sharply and swung the blade again at his front. Night Terror blocked it with his metal claw and jumped away to a safe distance.
Night Terror observed his attacker. Its clothes were made of a black leather, and it wore a mask that covered its entire head. Its eyes were red lights that glowed evilly at Night Terror as it flicked the blades attached to both arms.
"And who may you be?" Night Terror asked darkly, glaring at the new figure from under his hood.
The reason why Night Terror was angry was because he could not sense this person's fear. There was nothing. Not even a bit of arachnophobia, something much more common than you think. It was almost as if somebody had taken the fear out of him which would be impossible.
Kageyama got onto his feet and smiled at who it was.
"Get him No Name! Kill that fairy!" he jeered loudly.
"No Name," Night Terror hummed as he saw the figure rigidly approach him.
Before No Name could come any closer the train screeched to a halt and knocked the figure of his feet and landed roughly down the aisle. Night Terror held on by using the darkness to keep him in place and sent a tendril out to stop Natsu from flying. However, he didn't have time to stop the flute from flying towards Kageyama who picked it up as soon as he could.
Night Terror hummed in annoyance as he saw No Name picked himself up.
"Mr. Natsu, are you well enough to fight?" Night Terror asked as he placed his guildmate down on the floor.
Natsu grinned and slammed his hand into his palm, "You bet, I'm all fired up!" he declared, no longer feeling the effects of his motion sickness.
"Good, I will fight Mr. No Name while you take on Mr. Kageyama," he told him, not taking his eyes of No Name.
"Got it!" Natsu confirmed, his fists igniting into flames.
He jumped passed Night Terror and pursued Kagayema into the next carriage.
Night Terror faced off against No Name, neither wanting to make the first move.
The Phobos might have trouble defeating No Name. Since he has not been properly trained in the ways of the Dorchades, he mainly relies on fear so the enemies stand still where he could knock them out. However, since No Name does not fear him, he would have to rely on combat alone.
No Name leaped at Night Terror with its blades. It was sloppy and Night Terror easily dodge it and swing his claw at the figure. No Name grunted as the attack hit him but stood up to face Night Terror once more.
"You have been trained," Night Terror stated, "not very well, but trained nonetheless."
No Name growled, "I don't need to be trained. I just need to kill you," it said.
Night Terror shook his head dismissively.
"Many have tried, none have succeeded," Night Terror calmly told him.
No Name roared as he charged Night Terror again. Aiming to pierce his stomach with his blades. However, the Phobos only caught both his wrists and slammed him down on the floor.
"Do you really think you can kill a Phobos with-" he stopped as inspected the blades closely.
He recognised the material very well.
A metal so sharp it could cut through the thickest trees.
A metal forged and tempered by the most skilled makers.
A metal that could only be found on the Island of Fear.
It is Phobos metal.
"Where did you get this?" Night Terror demanded, pressing on No Name's wrists tightly.
No Name grunted and turned his head towards him.
"GO TO HELL!" he shouted and dropped a small round object from his hand.
Night Terror only had a second to jump away before the round object exploded into smoke. Night Terror used the shadows to transport himself onto the roof of the train to recover.
'Where did he get Phobos metal? Was he there at the attack?' he thought, trying to wrap his head around the situation.
The sound of something jumping on the roof caught Night Terror's attention. He turned to see that No Name had found him on the roof.
No Name began to approach but stumbled as the train lurched forwards. As the train began to pick up speed, Night Terror slashed No Name with his claw to which his opponent blocked. Night Terror used the darkness to push No Name forwards towards the Phobos where he flipped No Name onto to his back.
No Name tried to stand up, but Night Terror held him down with his darkness.
Night Terror loomed over him threateningly. He was about to interrogate his opponent when a car horn sounded from the road next to the train.
Night Terror saw Erza driving a green Magic Four-Wheeler, a type of transport powered by magic. He could sense Natsu, Lucy, Grey and Happy in the passenger compartment as they sped along with the train.
"Night Terror!" Erza called out, "we need you!"
Night Terror looked from Erza to No Name who was still struggling with his dark bindings.
'I will deal with this later. My clan needs me,' he decided internally.
He leaned in close to No Name who looked up at him in anger.
"I will come back for you," he darkly told him.
Taking both of No Name's wrist, Night Terror twisted his blades, so they are aimed beside No Name's neck. Overwhelming him in strength, Night Terror plunged the blades into the roof of the train, so that the blades crossed over each other and trapped No Name's neck between his blades.
No Name struggled to get out, but the blades were too stuck. Satisfied, Night Terror jumped off the train and landed gracefully on the roof of the Magic Four-Wheeler.
"Hello there," he greeted lightly.
"Night Terror," Erza said, "Natsu told us that a member of Eisenwald attacked him. Why didn't you stop him?" she asked crossly.
"I did, but then I was…preoccupied," Night Terror answered as the train sped off down the tracks. His glare trained on No Name still trapped onto the roof.
"Damn," Erza muttered, "we need to hurry. We think they may have Lullaby," she informed.
'Lullaby,' he mused, 'that must have been the flute Mr. Kageyama. If only Mr. No Name did not interrupt.'
Night Terror noticed the state Erza was in. The Magic Four-Wheeler must be taking too much of her magical energy away.
"Erza, take a break. You are going to be exhausted by the time we get to the station," Night Terror said.
Erza shook her head stubbornly.
"Lives could be at risk," Erza argued, "we can't stop now."
Night Terror raised a hand and felt the darkness from under the vehicle.
"I never said anything about stopping," he said.
Erza eyes widened in surprise as four dark horses rose from the shadows and pulled the vehicle to their destination. Seeing that the horses were going faster than the engine, Erza relaxed and detached herself from it. She turned to Night Terror as he climbed down from the roof and smiled pleasantly at him.
"Thank you, Night Terror," Erza said.
"It is quite alright, Miss Erza. Have your rest," he calmly told her.
The window of the seating area opened, and Lucy's head popped through it.
"Night, I'm so glad you're alright," Lucy said, giving him a relieved smile.
Night chuckled, "I am fine. Thank you, Miss Lucy. Is Mr. Natsu well?"
Lucy rolled her eyes, "Yeah, he's fine, but he won't be if he pukes on me," she said sending a glare at the dizzy Natsu.
"Stop being so mean to me," Natsu pleased as Happy petted his face comfortingly.
"Your so pathetic," Grey sighed as he glared at Natsu from his seat.
"Mr. Grey, where are your clothes," Night Terror asked in a deadpanned tone.
Grey looked down in horror to find he had accidently stripped during the journey.
"Damn it!" he shouted, "Stop this stupid thing so we can get them back!" he ordered.
Natsu nodded weakly, "Yeah, that's a good idea. Let's stop," he moaned.
"WE ARE NOT STOPPING, YOU IDIOTS!" Erza shouted at them from her seat.
Lucy and Night Terror shared a look.
"I'm starting to wish this job was a simple as the one we went on," Lucy sighed.
"So do I, Miss Lucy, so do I," Night Terror replied, equally as exhausted.
Oshibana Station
The team had followed the train to Oshibana Town where they saw a commotion outside the station. A crowd had gathered outside being held back by station staff who were reassuring the crowd that it was nothing but a train derailment. Although, some mutterings from the crowd rumoured that a dark guild has taken over the building.
Erza went to interrogate the station staff while the others, with Lucy carrying Natsu, stayed back and watched.
"You, what is the situation inside," she demanded from a staff member.
When he didn't answer fast enough, Erza headbutted him and moved onto the next worried staff member.
"I guess she's really impatient, huh," Lucy muttered as she saw Erza knocked out a second staff member.
"Perhaps, I should have a try," Night Terror suggested as he walked up to another uniformed man.
"Par-" Night Terror began before the man screamed in terror.
"AHHH! GET AWAY FROM ME!" he shouted in took off to an unknown location.
Night Terror blinked at the man's retreat and bowed his head sadly.
"I honestly did not know what I was expecting," he told himself as Lucy patted his back comfortingly.
After Erza got her answers from the poor staff, the team headed into the large ornate station to confront Eisenwald.
Night Terror stopped as his instincts alerted him again. He looked around the area thoroughly. He sensed for any presence in the rafters, behind columns, any hidden place. He may not see him, but he knew that No Name is around.
Night Terror's sensing was broken by a concerned Lucy calling his name.
"Night, are you okay?" she asked with a worried frown.
"I am perfectly fine. You go on ahead, I will catch up to you," Night Terror told her as he continued to search the area.
Lucy hesitated for a moment as she wanted to know what was going on. However, she trusted him and so she left to follow the others.
Night Terror continued to search the area for No Name. Many questions swarmed in his head at their encounter.
'Where did he get that metal?' he thought, 'It can only be forged by a Phobos. Does that mean there are other Phobos who survived the attack? No. Impossible. A Phobos would never give such sacred metal to a daonna. One so inexperience. I must question Mr. No Name immediately."
Night Terror opened his eyes as he sensed that Lucy was in trouble.
He decided to leave his hunt for now and sunk into the shadows.
Station Platform
Erza stood off against the mob of a one hundred Eisenwald wizards, preparing to fight.
Whilst Night Terror was busy, the team had confronted them as well as their strongest member Erigor.
Erigor was a man with white silver pointed hair, fair skin, and sharp facial features. He was bare-chested, showing off his blue tattoos, and wore a raggedy hakama and black scarf.
He was planning on using the Lullaby, a powerful artefact that can kill anyone who hears its music, on the citizens of Oshibana. The team were, of course, horrified of this revelation and were determined to stop Erigor.
Erigor took off to carry out his plan using his Wind Magic while Natsu and Grey pursued him on Erza's orders. Erza, Lucy, and Happy were left to deal with the other members of Eisenwald.
"Err…are you sure we can take them all?" Lucy asked Erza anxiously as she stared at the sinister faces of the Eisenwald guild.
"This will be easy," one member chuckled.
"Yeah, after we defeat these fairies, we can have some 'fun' with them," another said perversely.
"Dibs on the blonde," another called out.
Lucy heard this and posed innocently.
"You wouldn't hurt someone cute as me, would you?" she asked seductively as she batted her eyes at them.
"Please Lucy, this isn't the time for being delusional," Happy told her, earning a glare from the blonde.
Erza hummed in annoyance and held her hand in front of her. In a flash of light, a magic sword appeared, and she got into a battle stance.
"One more insult to Fairy Tail, and I can't guarantee you'll live to see tomorrow," Erza proclaimed as she stared daggers at Eisenwald.
"So cool," Lucy and Happy uttered in awe.
One member laughed, "Oh really, you two versus all of us," he mocked before he shivered in fear.
"Actually, it is three against all of you," a new voice declared, earning gasps of fright from Eisenwald.
From the shadows, Night Terror stepped out. He loomed over the guild members who took a few steps back from the robed man.
"In the name of the Phobos Clan, you will be punished for your pride," Night Terror said coldly.
"Night," Lucy proclaimed in delight, relieved to see that he had returned.
"My apologies for my lateness. I had to deal with…something," Night Terror said as he nodded at Lucy and Erza.
"Phobos Clan?" a voice whispered in the mob, "Isn't that the thing No Name keeps going on about?"
Night Terror scoured the mob as he tried to find the person who said that. He found that an overweight man with black hair had said it to his fellow guild member.
Night Terror's eyes narrowed at him. If he had been in contact with No Name, then he needed to interrogate him.
"Whatever, he doesn't look that scary to me," a bald man with a scar jeered as he aimed his sword at Night Terror.
He ran up to the Phobos and swung his sword, "Take this you stu-"
Night Terror caught the sword between his index and thumb and stopped the attack. While the bald man looked on in terror, Night Terror pushed the tip of the sword to its hilt, bending the blade out of shape. The bald man looked at his useless sword for a moment before looking up at Night Terror.
"Am I scary now?" Night Terror asked threateningly as he loomed over the bald man.
The bald man only gulped before he was sent hurtling back towards the mob by a tendril of darkness.
Night Terror turned to Erza who gave him a plain look.
"Miss Erza are you ready to fight?" he asked.
Erza nodded before she charged at the mob of dark mages. Night Terror followed her lead and swiped his claw at a group, sending the flying.
Lucy and Happy watched in awe as Erza and Night Terror tore through the mages. Striking them, dragging them into the shadows, deflecting beams of magic.
Erza a liked to change her weapons once in a while from swords, to spears, to staffs. While Night Terror favoured his claw hands and his tendrils of darkness to defeat the mages.
The mages were confused, scared and starting to panic as their attacks were useless against the members of Fairy Tail and their ranks were dropping like flies.
"Wow, they're so cool," Happy said.
Happy had expected a response from Lucy but was surprised that she did not comment. He looked towards her and saw her dazed expression and a dreamy smile on her face. Confused, he turned to look where she was staring and was surprised again to see that was looking at Night Terror.
'Amazing' Lucy thought as she felt her heart beat faster, 'He's just amazing.'
Happy's face became mischievous as he turned to Lucy.
"Lucy's in love with Night Terror," Happy teased, snapping her out of her trance.
"SHUT IT, CAT! NO, I'M NOT!" she shouted angrily as Happy laughed at her expense.
Night Terror had sent another mage flying when he saw the man who mentioned No Name trying to run away. Night Terror grabbed the man with a tendril and pulled him close to him.
"You mentioned No Name. Who is he?" he demanded from the terrified man.
"I-I-I don't know. He just joined a few days ago. No one knows what he looks like," the man answered in terror.
"Why does he want to kill me?"
"I don't know."
Night Terror tightened his grip on the man.
"I really don't know," the man gasped out, "He just says his master as ordered him to."
"Where is he?"
"Second floor, I think. Please let me go," the man begged.
Night Terror sighed at the response and flung the man towards a group of mages, crashing into them painfully.
He turned to Erza, who was still fighting off some enemies.
"Miss Erza, can you and Miss Lucy handle the rest?" he asked.
Erza swiped her spear at another enemy and turned to him.
"Yes, I'm sure," she answered before continuing to fight.
"Good," Night Terror said before he headed into the shadows.
"Wait," Lucy cried out, stopping Night Terror in his tracks, "you're leaving."
Night Terror turned to her, "I will explain later. Can I rely on you to help Miss Erza?" he asked calmly.
Lucy gave him a concerned look. He had been acting weirdly all day and she was starting to get worried. However, he did say he will explain later, and she trusted him.
Lucy nodded, "Alright, but you are definitely explaining what's going on later, okay," she ordered lightly with a smile.
Night Terror smiled from under his hood.
"You have my word, Miss Lucy," he promised before sinking into the shadows.
Lucy watched him leave before turning to the mob of mages still left over. Taking her gate key, she prepared to fight.
2nd Floor Room
Night Terror walked into the dimly lit room. He didn't bother to look around.
He knew he was in here.
Night Terror walked into the middle of the room and waited. He made himself a sitting duck, waiting patiently for No Name to take the bait.
The squeak of rubber soles on marble floors behind him alerted No Name's presence. Night Terror caught the blade that was aimed at the back of his neck and there No Name into the far wall. The mysterious figure grunted in pain at the impact and fell onto the floor in agony.
"How disappointing," Night Terror said as he approached No Name, "I was hoping for a better fight."
Night Terror used the darkness to wrap around the blades and detached them from No Name's wrists. No Name snarled but made no effort to fight back.
"I don't understand. My master said that it'll work," he uttered in disbelief.
"Your master is a fool," Night Terror shot back, "to think that you could defeat a Phobos with their own weaponry. Not tell me. Where did your master get this metal?" Night Terror darkly demanded.
No name grunted and looked up at him, "It is from the Island of Fe-"
"I KNOW WHERE IT IS FROM, OLC," Night Terror roared before he returned to his normal voice, "I asked how did they acquire it?"
No Name laughed crazily, "Do you think I'm scared of you? You think you can intimidate me, and I'll just answer all your questions, Phobos?" No Name spat, "I do not fear you anymore."
"Anymore?" Night Terror questioned, "Have we met?"
No Name didn't reply. He just laughed like a manic as he laid on the floor.
Growling in anger, Night Terror raised his claw and prepared to strike.
"You will answer my question!" he cried before sending down a precise swipe at his mask.
Once the claw had ripped away his mask, Night Terror stepped back in shock.
"What!?" he shouted in surprise, "What's the meaning of this!?"
Night Terror did know the person behind the mask. They had only met once a few days ago, but he didn't expect to see him ever again.
Night Terror looked down at the pale, tired face of the young man he let free after he caught the bandits near Pine Wood Town. The same person who he had advised to start a new life away from a life of crime.
"Henry McCarty?" Night Terror uttered in shock.
And cut.
Yep, Henry (from chapter 2) is back, and you'll see why in the next chapter.
At first, I didn't really know how I should write Erza's relationship with Night Terror. I doubt she would be outright hostile to him, but I also doubt she would be friendly. Therefore, she is neutral towards Night Terror. She isn't quite sure what to make of him and his magic, but hopefully that would change throughout the story as Night becomes more and more sociable. I hope that was alright. I found it kind of hard to write Erza.
Levy is on the case of translating the Timorin script and working out who Mì-fhortanach is.
Thinking about it, I should probably do a chapter on how a young Night Terror was first introduced to the guild and how he interacted with the other young guild members. That would be fun to write. I'll do that after the Lullaby arc.
Hope you enjoyed the chapter and please tell me if you want a separate story dedicated for the Tome of the Phobos.
Thanks :)
