Hello, welcome to a new chapter of FTNT and I hope you enjoy it.
human dragon – Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy the next chapter.
Djinn- Thanks, it was really fun to write. I think he will be more aware of the other romantic partners, but he will be more reluctant now there is somebody trying to kill the last of the Phobos.
NinjaFang1331 – Glad you enjoyed it and I hope you like the next chapter.
ikusatsunagi – No problem and Erza will definitely be more open to Night Terror after the Tower of Heaven. Mavis maybe, I still need to think about it.
danielsnow – I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've never written fluff before so I'm glad it was alright. Thank you for pointing out those mistakes. That was embarrassing. Enjoy the next chapter.
Tenma Kirin – Wait no more. Please enjoy.
MBS41 – Thanks so much. Also thank you for agreeing me about the finals. Ah well, there's always next time.
Neo Infinity – I'm glad you are likening it so far. I have read the Prince of Peace. It was good, but I felt like the OC was a bit OP for my taste (I love character development in stories). Plus, the chapters were so long that I sometimes got lost in the narrative.
Levy is one of my favourites, so I make sure she's part of the harem. Unfortunately, I haven't finished Fairy Tail yet (too busy with life…etc etc) so I haven't met Seilah yet. I had researched her, and she looked interesting, so I'll consider it.
Lelouch of Zero – Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. In the original draft of that chapter, Night Terror was going to be oblivious but, after a while, I thought it was lame. I'm so glad I made that choice because it's definitely much better.
Re Loverly Lover – I'm glad you liked it. I know it's a little sad, but I promise things will get better. Also, you're absolutely right about not mastering the other four powers, but he will soon enough.
The Headless Chicken – Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy the next chapter.
Thanks for the reviews.
Enjoy :)
Chapter 9: The Monster In The Ice
"May I be of assistance?" Night Terror as he approached the two.
Makarov acknowledged the Phobos presence with a nod, while Erza turned to him with an unreadable expression.
"Welcome back, leanabh," the master greeted warmly, "It would seem that Natsu, Happy and Lucy had stolen an S Class request," Makarov calmly explained.
"And Grey went with them," Erza added with an annoyed snarl.
Night Terror hummed, "I see," he simply said, trying to keep his anger from showing. However, judging by the panicked looks from his fellow guild mates, he was not succeeding.
Night Terror was angry for many reasons. The first being that defying your elders over something stupid is extremely forbidden in the Phobos Clan. It was a lesson he firmly believed in. The second is out of concern. S Class jobs are dangerous. Natsu and Grey may be strong mages, but there are not ready for that sort of job. None only that, but he's dragged Lucy into it.
Makarov chuckled, "I haven't seen you this angry in ages," he observed humorously, making Night Terror snap out his thoughts.
"Mhaighstir, cead airson an toirt air ais," he coldly said, radiating his Fear Magic around the guild.
The rest of the guild, except for Makarov shivered in fear as he said that. Mirajane and Cana shivered as well...but not out of fear.
"Cead air a thoirt seachad," Makarov replied, agreed to his request, "but make sure they're all in one piece."
Night Terror nodded slowly and turned towards the door.
"Wait," Erza demanded firmly, making the Phobos look back at her, "I'm coming with you," she declared.
Night Terror knew she wasn't asking permission, but out of courtesy, looked at Makarov questioningly.
The guild master waved his hand lazily, "Go on you two. Get there before they do any damage," he said before he bowed his head in distress as tears formed in his eyes, "I only just got the Magic Council off my back for the Guild Master Hall," he moaned in despair.
'It can not be easy being a guild master,' Night Terror observed as he watched his crying master with a sweat drop.
After saying goodbye to a flustered Mirajane, Night Terror and Erza turned and walked out the door. The Phobos called up Mabel from the shadows and mounted the horse.
"You do not mind going by horseback, Miss Erza?"
Erza climbed onto to Mabel behind Night Terror, "Whatever way is fastest," she plainly told him.
Night Terror frowned slightly at her tone, "Where is the location of the request?"
Erza sighed irritably, "Galuna Island," she simply answered.
Night Terror was pleasantly surprised. Galuna island is very well known by the Phobos. In fact, when the inhabitants of the island first settled there a few centuries ago, the Phobos sent them a gift basket with a note welcoming them and offering a trade agreement.
Although strangely enough they never replied.
Beach, Galuna Island
Hundreds of years ago, the two ancestors of the island's residents stood and stared in horror at the letter given to them. They couldn't read what it said, but the writing looked like a curse to them.
"W-what is this?" one ancestor stammered to the other as he shivered in fear.
"P-perhaps it's a warning," the other ancestor replied, "to stay away from the Island of Fear."
"Well, I've got the message. Let's just burn the damn thing," the first ancestor panically said before they ran back to the villaige.
They completely missed the wicker basket full of fruit and flowers.
'Quite peculiar,' Night Terror mused as they rode Mabel out of Magnolia.
Night Terror noticed how quiet Erza was and glanced behind him. The red haired mage was watching the landscape go by as the sun began to sink beyond the horizon. Her expression has not changed since they left and the Phobos knew the reason why.
"Miss Erza," Night Terror spoke up, "I apologise for my actions against Mr Siegrain, but I would like to inform you that I do not regret making them," he told her, making Erza stared at the back of his hood.
"Understandable," she simply said, "I only ask that you don't enquire anymore of my history with him. It is none of yo-"
"If there is one thing the Phobos are good at," Night Terror interrupted, "it is not getting involved in anyone's business."
"Then we've come to an understanding."
"Unless..."
Erza frowned crossly. She didn't like where this conversation was going.
"Unless what?" she questioned irritably.
Night Terror hummed wearily, "I detect darkness in Mr Siegrain. I do not know what sort, but I know that it is harmful to him and those around him."
Erza was about to retort, but she knew that he was right. Even she had to admit that he has changed since they were children. She looked down sadly as she remembered her past with the blue haired boy. Suddenly, her eyes shot up determinedly, her fists clenched tightly.
"Again, it is not your business. If he becomes a danger to others then I will deal with him," Erza boldly declared.
Night Terror looked over his shoulder back at her, "It is not others that I worry about. It is you, Miss Erza," he firmly told her, making her eyes widen slightly in surprise, "Miss Erza, I fear that if you continue down this path with no assistance, you too will fall victim of Mr Siegrain's darkness. I am not saying that Mr Siegrain can not be helped, but please be cautious. I am aware of the irony of me informing you that due to my secretive nature, but unlike myself you are not bound by centuries of tradition. You have the freedom of choice, Miss Erza, either use it wisely or throw away your freedom," Night Terror turned back to the front, letting his words sink in, "You are part of a guild. A family. A clan. A burden becomes lighter if it is shared."
Erza looked down again, mulling his words over in her mind. She didn't want to think about it anymore and decided to change the subject.
"You seem overly worked up over this," Erza observed, referring to their retrieval mission.
Night Terror chuckled, "It is natural to be concerned for your comrades. However, I mostly worried about Miss Lucy," he said seriously.
Erza raised an eyebrow quizzically, "I'm sure she can defend herself."
"I have no doubt that she could, but I just can not help but worry about her," he told Erza, thoughtfully.
Night Terror didn't know why he felt this way. It was more personal than out of duty to the elders. The fact that Lucy disobeyed the master and put herself in danger brought back a distant memory. But what that memory is not clear.
It was as if he didn't want her to make the same mistakes he once did. But when did he ever disobey his elders? Sure, he was a mischievous child, but not a stupid one.
Ever since Levy showed him the Timorin script, he couldn't help but feel that he forgotten something about his past.
Something very important.
Night Terror pushed his thoughts out of his head and focused on riding. Something to think about later.
"Of course, we will also need to retrieve those idiots so Mhaighstir can administrate Ceartas' will," Night Terror continued after a few moments of silence.
Erza frowned in confusion, "Who's?"
"Ceartes is the Phobos Clan's god of justice and judgement," Night Terror replied, "he is the son of Gliocas, the goddess of wisdom, and Musùine, the god of the past. Would you like me to tell you an interesting stor-"
"No," Erza sharply denied.
"Oh," he uttered in slight disappointed.
Night Terror nodded in understanding and focused on riding towards the coast.
Hargeon Town
The two Fairy Tail members finally reached the port town, however they soon learned that finding a person willing to take them to Galuna Island was difficult. It would seem that every boat and ship owner was scared of the island claiming it to be cursed. Night Terror's presence didn't seem to be helping either.
"My apologies, Miss Erza," Night Terror said as they walked along the port after another failed attempt, "perhaps I should stand further back or hide behind something."
Erza shook her head tiredly, "It's not your fault. Whether you were here or not; I reckon it would be difficult to find anyone willing to take us to the island," Erza sighed, "Is there a way you can use your Fear Magic to scare someone to take us?"
"I have a spell known as Eagal Cainnt which uses fear to persuade somebody to do our bidding, but I feel uncomfortable performing it on an innocent," Night Terror informed.
Erza and Night Terror suddenly stopped when they saw something up ahead. A large pirate ship had just docked into the port. It was made of a grey wood and had a ram and several cannon, no doubt used for terrorising cargo ships. It sails were a dirty green and stitched on the main sail was a skull sticking its tongue out above a crossed over knife and fork.
Pirates leapt down from the ship, cheering, and shouting in excitement at the raid their going to perform. Their captain, a short man with a grey beard and an eye patch jumped from the ship and landed on the dock. Raising his cutlas in the air, he began to address his men.
"Alright crew!" he cried, "let's take everything they have!"
The crew cheered once again despite the rather lame speech, swinging their swords in the air, and acting like…well like pirates.
Night Terror and Erza watched them continue to chant for a few moments with deadpanned expressions.
"What is your policy of using that spell on pirates?" Erza asked, not taking her eyes of the crew.
"Non-existent," the Phobos simply replied.
En route to Galuna Island
"W-would that be all, Captain Night Terror?" the previous captain of the vessel stuttered as he placed two cups of tea in front of two Fairy Tail members.
"I am perfectly fine, thank you," Night Terror replied, "Captain Miss Erza, would you like anything else?" he asked his companion.
"I'm good," Erza said as she poured some sugar into her tea.
The former captain bowed timidly, "We will be arriving at Galuna Island in half an hour," he informed before walking stiffly out of their private chamber.
"How long will they be under your spell?" Erza inquired curiously.
"As long as I say so."
"Good, we're going to need transportation back from the island," Erza said, as they sailed over the water to the cursed island.
Beach, Galuna Island
Lucy gritted her teeth in anguish as she stood up against her opponent. An S Class job was much more difficult than she was expecting. The only way Natsu and Happy convinced her to go was the promise of a Celestial Spirit key as a reward, but now they have stumbled onto something darker then just lifting a curse.
They didn't know what the curse was until they met the villagers. The moon above them turning purple and transforming the residents into monstrous demons. Upon further investigation, they found beneath an old, ruined temple the monster known as Deloria trapped in a thick layer of ice. Grey was very distraught when he laid eyes on that monster but was reluctant to explain why.
That's when they met the culprits behind the curse was team of four mages and twenty cult members and one giant blue rat dressed in a maid uniform. They sought to free Deloria, although Lucy had no idea why. Lucy and Happy retreated to the village so they can help defend it from the group's attack. With the help of Natsu, they were able to fend of the first attack and Lucy managed to grab on to the flying rat known as Angelica.
Lucy was able to ground Angelica and was now in the middle of a battle between one of the four mages wanting to free Deloria. Sherry was admittedly a pretty woman, with long pink hair tied into two ponytails, pale skin, and large blue eyes. However, she seemed to be obsessed with love to the point that it disturbed Lucy slightly.
Lucy has been unsuccessful defeating her, Sherry's magic allowed her to take control of anything including Lucy's Celestial Sprits.
"Haven't you given up yet," Sherry sighed irritably, "I have better things to do then deal with somebody underserving of love."
"Hey, there's no need for thatl!" Lucy shouted angrily.
Lucy went for one of her gate keys, but Sherry sighed once more.
"Really again. No matter which spirit you're going to send out, I'm just going to take it over," Sherry told her, making Lucy pull back from her keys.
'She's right,' Lucy thought in despair, "if I release another spirit she would take control of it, but if I don't do anything she'll just use on her rock puppets on me. She has the upper hand. What do I do?'
Lucy glance around her, trying to find anything that can help.
'If only Night Terror was here,' she wished before frowning at what she said, 'but he's not and I bet he wouldn't like me acting pathetic so suck it up, Lucy!' her eyes widened in realisation, 'wait, I know what to do.'
-Flashback a few days ago-
Fairy Tail Guild
Lucy was sat at a table paging through the copy of the Tome of the Phobos Night Terror giver her. She suddenly stopped at a page titled 'An Dian Sùil or The Intense Stare'. Unlike the rest of the book, this didn't have a story to it but instead provided a set of instructions that enabled the user to make their target unnerved, panic or even scared depending on how effective it was. What really caught her eye was the fact that non-Phobos can do this as well.
Her curiosity peaked, she studied the page thoroughly.
"Alright," she muttered to herself, "lean your hard slightly forwards, maintain an emotionless expression, stand rigidly, stare into your opponents' eyes and blink as little as possible...I think I can do that," she told herself with a small smile.
After a couple of practices, she felt the need to try on someone. And the perfect person just walked into the guild hall.
Lucy smiled evilly as she snuck up on Natsu until she stood right behind him. Running through the instructions once more in her head, she eagerly tapped Natsu on the shoulder.
The Dragon Slayer turned around and faced Lucy performing the Dian Sùil on him. Her face was expressionless, her eyes were dark as she coldly glared into his eyes.
...
...
...
...
"Hey, Lucy," Natsu greeted completely unfazed, "what's wrong? You want to take a dump or something?"
"NO I DO NOT!" Lucy shouted dropping the intense stare before bowing her head in defeat, "Why didn't it work?" she moaned.
A read of the next page showed that it only works during fights to unnerve your opponents and throw them off their rhythm. Not to scare random people.
"Now it tells me," Lucy sadly muttered.
-Flashback End-
'It didn't work then but what about now,' Lucy thought, 'the book said that showing as little emotion in battle means you opponent can't read your movements and feel put off. I have to try.'
Sherry raised an eyebrow as Lucy stood tall and stared at her with cold eyes. She expected her to do something else, but she just continue to stare as a shadow fell over her eyes.
"What is she doing?" Sherry muttered to herself.
After a few moments of nothing, Sherry growled irritably, "Come on do something!" she shouted at her.
Still nothing.
Sherry rolled her eyes and created a puppet made of rocks, 'I'll give her a warning shot. That will teach her,' she thought wickedly as she ordered her puppet to hurl a rock right past Lucy.
The puppet did what it was ordered and the rock sailed past Lucy ruffling her hair slightly. However, much to Sherry's confusion, Lucy didn't even flinch. There was no change in her expression.
"Hey! What are you doi-"
Lucy took a step forward stopping Sherry's shout. Then she took another step forwards, startling Sherry even more.
'She must be planning something,' Sherry thought desperately, 'but I thought she's only a Celestial Spirit mage. Is it possible she knows other magic'
Lucy continued to take steps towards, constantly maintaining eye contact with the puppet mage. Sherry was starting to panic. She couldn't take her eyes of the opponent, fearing that if she looked away she would strike.
'I have to play it safe,' Sherry thought as she tried to rationalise the situation, 'I need to dispel my puppet,' she thought releasing her hold on the rock puppet which crumbled lifelessly to the ground, 'I need to keep distance from her and...and...'
Her mind went blank as she noticed that Lucy was coming closer and closer. Her cold stare not once leaving her face.
"S-stop it!" Sherry demanded, backing away in fear.
Lucy came closer. The stare was boring into Sherry's soul and filling it with fear.
"I SAID S- ah!" Sherry shrieked as she accidentally tripped over he feet and landed on her back.
Once she was down, Lucy attacked.
She jumped on Sherry, turned her over to her front and held her hands behind her back. Sherry grunted in pain as she tried to get out of Lucy's tight grip, but she couldn't do anything.
"What did you do to me?" Sherry demanded, looking up at Lucy's victorious smile.
Lucy shrugged, "Oh nothing."
"Nothing!" Sherry shrieked, "you looked like you were planning on killing me."
"Well, I wasn't," Lucy told her, "I just relied on you to think that I was, but when you couldn't figure it out, you panicked."
"B-but why?"
"You had the upper hand," Lucy explained, "One of the first things you learn about fear is how to convince a stronger foe that you are powerful than them. Like in the story of the mouse and the lion."
"The what?" Sherry asked in confusion.
"Err...it's a Phobian story," Lucy sheepishly explained.
Sherry gritted in teeth, annoyed that she was tricked so easily. She gasped silently as she saw something in the forest nearby and grinned viscously.
"Try tricking yourself out of this one," Sherry told Lucy much to the blonde's confusion, "ANGELICA NOW!" she shouted out in the forest.
Lucy jumped in surprise as the giant blue rat leaped from it's hiding place towards her. She made to grab her keys when a blur attack Angelica. The rat shrieked in pain as Sherry cried out in disbelief and horror.
"Angelica n-"
That was all Sherry uttered before she was swallowed up by a shadow. Lucy looked down in confusion before recognising the magic. She looked over her shoulder and saw Night Terror looking down at her. Lucy sighed in relief as she stood to her feet and walked towards the Phobos.
"Night, I'm so glad to see you," Lucy happily said as she looked up at him.
Night Terror didn't say anything.
Lucy blinked in confusion and tried again, "Did you see me do that Dian Sùil. Pretty impressive right," she said with a proud grin.
The Phobos didn't say a word, but just stared down at her.
Lucy started to sweat nervously, "Did I do something wrong?" she hesitantly asked, feeling Night Terror's fear start to scare her little.
Night Terror loomed over her, causing her to squeak in terror, "You perfectly know what you did wrong, Miss Lucy," Night Terror growled.
Lucy's eyes widened in realisation.
They stole an S Class request.
"Oh...right...that," Lucy stammered, "you're not mad about that. Are you?"
"Of course not," Night Terror said, making Lucy sigh, "mad does not BEGIN TO COVER HOW ANGRY I AM AT YOU!" Night Terror roared, making Lucy fall over in fear, "HOW COULD YOU MISS LUCY! YOU ARE LUCKY YOU ARE NOT DEAD YET!"
"I'm sorry," Lucy yelped, never experiencing Night Terror shout before "Natsu and Happy made me come," she explained frantically.
"Oh don't worry, they'll get their punishment."
Lucy turned and squeaked when she saw Erza tower over her.
'The two most terrifying mages in Fairy Tail are ganging up on me,' Lucy internally cried, 'how is that fair.'
"Lucy!" the voice of Happy cried as he flew down towards her, "Are you alr-"
He stopped when he saw Night Terror and Erza glare at him. Immediately, he tried to fly away but Erza caught him in a blink of an eye.
"Let's gather everyone at the village," Erza told Night Terror, "then we'll make our way back to the guild."
Lucy stood up and sheepishly rubbed her head, "You two probably need a guide. Why don't I-"
She was instantly silenced as darkness wrapped around her and lifted her off the ground.
"No thank you, Miss Lucy," Night Terror said as he carried the defeated Lucy, "we will find our way," he informed as the walked into the jungle.
Temporary Village, Galuna Island
Since the village was partially destroyed in the attack, the residents had set up a camp nearby. It was morning when they arrived at the camp. Once the residents laid eyes on Night Terror, they cowered in fright.
"It's alright," Lucy called out, still wrapped in the dark tendrils, "he's a member of Fairy Tail."
The residents seemed to calm down slightly but gave the Phobos a wide berth.
"Thank you, Miss Lucy," Night Terror said, earning a smile from the blonde, "but do not think I will forget your actions because of that."
"Damn," Lucy muttered.
Erza went to talk with the village chief and apologise for her guild members. Meanwhile, Night Terror observed the residents with curiosity. They all seem to be human but at least one part of their anatomy looked demonic. One woman had a blue leg with black claws while a child had a yellow arm which held their parent's hand.
"Quite extraordinary," Night Terror mused, "Is this the curse discussed on the request?"
Lucy nodded from above Night Terror, "Yes. But it's not just that. Every night, when the moon shines, they turn into complete demons," Lucy informed.
Night Terror nodded, "Oh, that is good. I am sure they are relieved by that."
Lucy gave him an odd look, "Why would they b-"
"Night Terror," Erza called out, interrupting Lucy, "They found Grey, but he's recovering right now. The chief told me we can stay in the storage tent until he wakes up."
The Phobos nodded in agreement and followed Erza to the tent.
It wasn't long until Gray entered the tent with a few bandages. His eyes widened in fear as he saw Erza sitting on a crate with Night Terror stood next to her, expecting his arrival. Lucy and Happy were in the corner, weeping while tied up in Night Terror's shadows.
"Good morning, Mr Grey," the Phobos said in an unwelcoming tone.
"You made us wait," Erza coldly told him, her eyes darkening.
….
….
….
….
"…Why are you guys acting like parents who stayed up all night for their rebellious teenager to come home?" Grey asked, making tick marks form on both Night Terror's and Erza's head.
"Be quiet," Erza growled, making Grey flinch, "we need to find Natsu and go back to the guild," she told him as she stood up.
"But we can't leave yet," Grey complained, "what about the villagers."
"It is none of our concern," Erza stoically said, "I came here to bring you back to the guild. I am not interested in anything else."
"How could you say that. Have you seen what the people of this island are going through?"
As the two were arguing, Night Terror sensed Grey's fear and was shocked to find a fear that has recently surfaced. Something he hasn't felt for years. Night Terror knew Grey had this fear, but until now it was faint as a distant memory. It reeked of evil, and destruction and it was very familiar to every Phobos as it was imprinted on them from when they were young.
Night Terror sensed a monster.
And instantly, Night Terror instincts kicked in.
He needed to destroy it.
"And you just going to turn your back on them?" Grey said, as Night Terror tuned into their argument.
"The request is posted on boards at every guild. The villagers will be better served with another S Class wizard."
"How could you be so heartless," Grey cried, making Erza glare at him.
"What did you say," Erza snarled, ready to attack him.
But before she could do anything, Night Terror stopped her by placing his claw on her shoulder.
"Perhaps, we should stay here," Night Terror suggest surprising everyone.
"What are you talking about?" Erza demanded, shaking his claw off her shoulder.
"I believe it to be unwise to leave just yet. We cannot betray the villagers trust in Fairy Tail," Night Terror explained, "Not only that but we have to deal with Dèanuilebheist's creation."
"Who?" Grey asked in confusion.
"Dèanuilebheist," Lucy piped up, "she's the Phobos goddess of monsters. She's known for creating the Great Savages among other monsters."
Grey frowned as he knew what Night Terror was getting at, "You mean Deloria? You could sense it from my fear."
"Indeed," Night Terror confirmed, "can you please explain what's going on."
Grey was reluctant at first, but he soon explained his past. When he was young, the monster known as Deloria destroyed his hometown. He was found among the wreckage by mentor Ur along with another boy named Lyon. Ur proceeded to adopt Grey and teach him Ice Make magic, but one day, as they were passing a town, they heard that Deloria was nearby. Grey wanted to take revenge on the monster, but Ur insisted that he wasn't ready. Grey disobeyed her wish and found Deloria, but as Ur predicted, he was no match for the thing.
Ur made it in time and, to protect Grey and Lyon, she used a spell known as Ice Shell. However, the spell required her to forfeit her life as she encased Deloria in its ice prison. Since then, Lyon has blamed Grey her death and was now trying to revive Deloria using a spell called Moon Drip so that he can enact his revenge and surpass his mentor.
"I see," Night Terror sadly said, "my condolences, Mr Grey."
Grey shrugged but otherwise didn't say anything else.
Night Terror turned to Red headed mage, "Miss Erza, we need to stop My Lyon from continuing his plan before Deloria is released. It is our duty as Fairy Tail guild members."
Erza stared back at Night Terror with a cold look, but the Phobos was not backing down. Soon she sighed and nodded reluctantly.
"Fine," Erza agreed, "Master sent you to retrieve them and so it is your decision."
"Thank you," Night Terror gratefully said as he released Lucy and Happy from the dark tendrils, "we need to go now if we have any hope of stopping Mr Lyon."
The others nodded in agreement, and they all left the tent.
The Temple of the Moon
Night had fallen by the time they arrived and the moon above them shone bright purple, indicating that Moon Drip ritual was taking place.
Along their way, they encountered Lyon's followers who attacked them. Grey told the others to deal with them while he confronts Lyon. Before anybody could disagree, he took off.
Night Terror sensed a great amount of power coming from on top of the temple nearby and deduced that is where the Moon Drip ritual was taking place.
"Erza, I need to interrupt the ritual," Night Terror called out, pointing towards the temple.
Erza followed his claw and saw the purple light shining from the top of the temple.
"Go on ahead. We'll deal with the followers," she called back, as she punched a cult member in the stomach.
Night Terror nodded and created his shadow horse, mounted it, and galloped towards the temple. Once they made it to the foot, Night Terror ordered Mabel to climb up it. The shadow horse leaped and bound elegantly up the pyramid-like temple. In no time, they had made it to the top where an odd looking man performed the ritual.
He looked like a man, but with dog features like fur a muzzle and two ears coming out of his long brown hair. The dog man was first surprised then terrified as the shadow horse leaped onto the top. Night Terror released a great amount of fear at the man making him yelp and fall over and interrupt the ritual.
Well, that's what Night Terror thought.
Suddenly, a beam of purple energy shot down from moon and hit the temple. Night Terror saw the light go through a large hole in the roof.
"Daingead," he cursed, "I am too late."
The dog man laughed as he saw the downtrodden Phobos. He stood to his feet with a wide grin.
"That's right your too late and there's noth- oof!"
Night Terror used a shadow to punch the dog man in the stomach without looking up at him. The dog man went sailing off the temple and landed in the trees below.
"I may be too late," Night Terror said to himself, "but there is something I can do," he sighed sadly as he ordered Mabel to climb down the temple, "I do not want to do this."
Inside The Temple
Grey shakily stood to his feet, wincing slightly at the bruises he recieved.
Lyon stood before his hand giving off frost, ready to attack if necessary. Lyon looked to be in his late teens like Grey. He had white spiky hair, fair skin, and cotton uniform with a cape.
The white haired teen frowned when he say his former friend get up.
"Give up, Grey," Lyon demanded, "I am going to defeat Deloria and you're not going to stop me."
"Lyon, listen to me. Master Ur is not dead," Grey told his opponent through gritted teeth, "Ice Shell makes the user become the ice. If you melt her way, you'll kill her."
Lyon stepped back in shock when he said that, but it immediately turned to a snarl.
"You're lying!" Lyon shouted at him, "you're only saying that because you were the one that killed her!"
Using his magic, Lyon created an eagle out of ice and order it to attack him. Grey prepared for the attack, but a blur of darkness smashed the eagle before it could come any closer. Lyon growled in irritation as he saw Night Terror stand before Grey, trying not to be intimidated by his scary appearance.
"Great another one," Lyon muttered to himself.
"Night Terror, what are you doing!? Get out of here!" Grey shouted at the Phobos.
"Where is Mr Natsu?" Night Terror asked, ignoring Grey's demands.
"I don't know. He's fighting that other guy." Grey responded, feeling slightly annoyed that his right was once again interrupted.
Night Terror hummed before turning to Lyon, "I request that you stand down, Mr Lyon. Otherwise, I have no choice but to force you to submit."
Lyon blinked in surprise before a grin spread across his face.
"You really think you can defeat me," Lyon mocked as he formed an lion and an snake out of ice, "Try you wore-"
Lyon slumped on to the ground as soon as Night Terror swiped him over the head with his claw, his ice animals bursting into a million pieces. He didn't even see him move.
"You could have at least waited for me to finish my sentence," Lyon grumbled in pain.
"Never talk during a fight," Night Terror told the fallen Lyon who was now wrapped up in black tendrils.
"Noted," Lyon signed.
"That was way too easy," Grey muttered in astonishment.
The Ice Make wizard tried to walk over when he felt something wrap around his leg. He looked down and saw darkness trap his leg before spreading to his body.
"Hey, what are you doing!?" Grey shouted as he tried to break free of Night Terror's shadow.
"I am sorry, Mr Grey," Night Terror sadly apologised as he began to head towards where Deloria is kept.
"Don't apologise! Just let me go!" Grey demanded, making Night Terror stop at the doorway.
"I am not apologising for that," the Phobos said, earning a confused look from Grey, "I am apologising on behalf of the Phobos Clan for yours and Mr Lyon's tragedy."
"What do you mean?" Lyon asked, looking up at Night Terror.
Night Terror frowned, not daring to look back at the ice mages.
"When the Phobos Clan fell, all the evil that we have been driving away for millennia appeared once more. Banditry rose, families were torn apart, towns were destroyed. Deloria is an example of our failure. If the Phobos had still existed, we would have slain the monster and you will not be living in your grief."
Grey and Lyon didn't know what to make of what Night Terror told them.
Grey shook his angrily, "Night Terror, your people being wiped out didn't cause anything. Nobody but Deloria is to blame for what happened to my village or anything it destroyed."
Night Terror shook his head, "I wish that was true, Mr Grey. But you have no idea of the consequences of the destruction of the Phobos Clan. The repercussions has effected the lives of many people across the globe," Night Terror sighed sadly, "It is a Phobos' purpose to scare evil away from the innocent. And as the last of my kind, it is my duty to vanquish this monster and to rid the world of its evil presence."
"No," Lyon gasped, "I must be the one to do it."
Night Terror ignored his pleas and stepped out of the room, "I shan't be long," he called to them despite Grey's desperate begging.
Somewhere in the Temple
Natsu was in the middle of a battle with another mage who's part of Lyon's group. His name was Zalty and he wore a red demon mask that covered most of his face, long moss green shaggy hair and wore a greyish green cape.
Natsu was starting to get annoyed with the masked mage. Instead of fighting him, he would instead leap out of the way or hurl crystal balls at him using his magic.
Finally, Zalty stopped at a perch, looking down at Natsu with a malice grin.
"You're from Fairy Tail, aren't you," Zalty said, earning a confused look from Natsu.
"Yeah, so what," Natsu replied, raising an eyebrow sceptically.
Zalty chuckled, "That must mean you know the Night Terror, right?"
"Night Terror," Natsu repeated to himself.
"Do you mind passing on a message to him?" Zalty asked.
Natsu growled, "Why the hell would I do anything for you!?"
"Oh but it's only a little message," Zalty insisted, "in fact it's only just one word."
Natsu raised his eyebrows curiously as Zalty told him the message.
"What does that mean?" Natsu question, confused with message.
Zalty cackled again, "Don't you worry," he reassured him with a grin, "I'm sure Night Terror would know what it means."
Cavern Beneath the Temple
Night Terror walked through the stone tunnels, finding the darkness comforting. He ducked under an opening and entered a large cavern. That's when he laid eyes on the monster know as Deloria.
Its ice prison has almost melted away, thanks to Moon Drip, showing the gigantic beast. It was humanoid in shape and was covered in dark blue scales. Its muscular arms hung at its sides and ended with giant sharp claws. Its feet were bird-like and it had a main-like black hair. Its face was hideous with two horns jutting out the top of its head, a row of sharp teeth and two hollow eyes that stared down at the Phobos.
Deloria growled once Night Terror entered the cavern, attempting to intimidate its first victim in years.
Night Terror merely hummed and raised an eyebrow, "I thought he would be bigger," he mused uncaringly.
Deloria roared, shaking the cavern and sending debris from the ceiling falling to the ground.
"Yes, yes, very impressive," Night Terror sighed as he waved his clawed hand dismissively.
Night Terror raised his hooded up towards Deloria and released the Fear Magic he usually holds back, making the monster flinch.
"Uilebheist, marbhadh mhìltean, olc na talmhainn. Is mise Dorchadas, teaghlach an Dorchadais agus luchd-cinnidh nam Phobos. Thèid do grèim murt air an t-saoghal seo a sgrios le mo làimh. Tha eagal orm, uilebheist," Night Terror roared at Deloria, emitting an extreme amount of fear.
Deloria's eyes widened at Night Terror's words and recoiled back. It roared again but this time it was out of fear, warning Night Terror to stay back.
Night Terror chuckled as he lifted his clawed hands out of his cloak, "It would seem you remember the Phobos. How amusing."
Over the years, Night Terror has trained himself to show restrained when fighting in fear of killing his opponents.
However this time, Night Terror will not be holding anything back.
Edit: There's a poll on my profile so please check it out.
Sorry for the late upload. I was expecting to upload this Wednesday morning.
Anyway, things to discuss. I thought Lucy would pick up lesson from the Tome of the Phobos, since it covers a wide range of magic. One of the things about Lucy is that isn't good at hand to hand combat, so I thought she could learn how to fight like a Phobos. The technique she learned is a very basic. So basic that most humans are able to do it naturally (i.e Erza).
Secondly, I mentioned at least four deities in the Phobian pantheon in this chapter, so I thought I write a guide to all the deities in my spin-off story The Tome of the Phobos. So look out for that.
Finally, he's the English translation to what Night Terror said in the end:
"Monster, killer of thousands, evil of the earth. I am the Night Terror, kin of Dorchades and clansmen of the Phobos. Your murderous hold on this world will be destroyed by my hand. Fear me, monster."
Hope you enjoyed the chapter and I'll see you next time.
Thanks :)
