Chapter 12: Tower Rejoice

The ramp of Wilt lowered with a soft hiss, and the moment Weiss, Blake, and Yang stepped off the ship, their boots met the solid, reassuring ground of the hangar bay. A wave of relief crashed over them, so intense it was almost dizzying.

"Finally!" Yang exclaimed, stretching her arms above her head. "I thought I'd never get out of that suit."

Weiss let out an uncharacteristic laugh, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "I'd forgotten how good real gravity feels." She took a deep breath, savoring the crisp air of the hangar.

Blake smiled, the tension in her shoulders melting away. She tilted her face upwards, closing her eyes. "No more stale air. No more vacuum. Just... solid ground."

Yang grinned, nudging Blake with her elbow. "Don't get too comfy, Blake. I might just hug the floor."

Blake chuckled. "I'll take a floor hug over a firefight in space any day."

They shared a laugh, the sound echoing through the hangar. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, the weight of constant danger lifted, if only for a moment. The reality of safety—of being on firm ground—was something they hadn't let themselves hope for until now.

Weiss turned to look at the familiar surroundings of the hangar. Her eyes glistened with emotion. "We made it."

Yang slung an arm around Weiss's shoulders. "Yeah, we did. Together."

Blake nodded, her voice soft but firm. "And we're not done yet. But we'll face whatever comes next… just like this."

Together.

The hangar bay doors slid shut behind them, sealing away the cold void of space. The world ahead felt full of possibilities, and for the first time in a long time, hope didn't seem so distant.

Adam walked down the ramp, his gaze sweeping across the hangar. He spotted Amanda Holliday leaning against a workbench, her grease-streaked hands on her hips and a wry smile on her face.

"Well, if it ain't the prodigal ship," Holliday drawled, giving Wilt an appraising look. "Looks like she's seen better days."

Adam nodded, his voice calm. "That's why we're here. I need repairs, and fast."

Holliday chuckled, walking over to inspect the hull. She ran her hand along a scorched panel, her brow furrowing. "You're gonna need a full engine check, no doubt about it. And these vacuum seals?" She tapped the edge of the airlock with a gloved finger. "They're shot to hell. If you plan on taking her back out there, you'll want those fixed first."

Adam sighed, a hint of weariness in his eyes. "How long are we talking?"

"Depends on how bad the engine damage is," Holliday replied, pulling out a datapad and making a few notes. "Could be a couple of days, could be longer. But I'll do what I can to get her spaceworthy ASAP."

Adam nodded. "Thanks. I appreciate it."

She smiled, softer this time. "Don't mention it. Just try not to get her banged up again so soon, alright?"

"No promises," Adam said with a faint smirk.

Holliday shook her head with a chuckle. "Let's get started."

A large Titan clad in bulky, gleaming armor approached, his heavy footsteps echoing through the hangar. His face broke into a grin under his helmet as he spotted Adam.

"Adam, as I live and breathe!" the Titan boomed, his deep voice filled with warmth. He clapped both of Adam's shoulders, the impact firm but friendly. "How have you been? Are you still going by Bull?"

Adam's smirk softened into a smile. "It's Adam for now, Lord Shaxx. Just came by to drop off some New Lights I found on Venus and one that was stuck in orbit."

Lord Shaxx laughed heartily. "Seeing as you have some time on your hands, why don't you introduce me to these New Lights?"

Adam stepped aside, gesturing to Weiss, Blake, and Yang. "Lord Shaxx, meet Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long."

Shaxx gave an approving nod, his massive frame towering over them. "Welcome to the Last City, Guardians. Stick close to Adam—he's got a knack for finding trouble and getting out of it."

Yang gave a tight smile, her eyes cautious. "Sounds like us already."

Blake's polite smile didn't quite reach her eyes. "It's an honor, Lord Shaxx."

Weiss inclined her head respectfully, though her gaze was sharp. "Thank you for having us."

Shaxx's laughter boomed through the hangar. "You're in good company. Let's get you all settled in."

Adam's wrist console pinged softly. He glanced down and saw a message from the Postmaster.

"Looks like I've got a delivery waiting at the Postmaster," Adam said, stepping back. "Probably just reconnected to the Tower's network. I'll catch up later."

Lord Shaxx nodded. "Go handle your business. I'll take it from here."

As Adam walked away, Shaxx gestured for the girls to follow him. "Alright, let's show you around."

Weiss, Blake, and Yang exchanged wary glances before falling in step behind the towering Titan.
