Charlie's POV
I pulled Birkoff to the door of the house looking at the door. "Are you going to unlock the door so I can go in and scout out which room I want?"
He laughed opening the door. "We were just next door though it will be locked during the day when we are all out and away from the house. We left you the big room with a bathroom attached to it. We figured it would be nice for you to have your own shower and bathroom."
My eyes grew big as I looked around the downstairs of the house. Walking into each of the rooms and checking them out. I found 2 offices which had both been set up. The kitchen where I found both Ryan and Birkoff talking about things as they made dinner together, the living room which had a huge tv in it and every game system I could dream of. I looked towards the kitchen and yelled. "Which one of you two is the gamer?"
Birkoff walked into the room and smiled. "That would be me. We can play at one point if you want?"
I nodded. "I really would love that. The guys and I play all the time over at Sam's place, but it would be nice to maybe get a bit of a challenge sometimes."
Just as I was about to go up the stairs to check out the rooms there was a knock at the door and my phone dinged. I pulled it out and glanced at it realizing that it was Embry texting me to tell me that he was standing at the door of the house.
Birkoff made it to the door before me and opened it looking at Embry. I will admit he was a sight for sore eyes. His hair was a bit of a mess. He raised his hand to Birkoff with a smile. "I'm Embry."
Birkoff turned to yell up the stairs but realizing that I was standing right there. "He can go with you up to your room and help you unpack but leave the door open at least a foot."
I nodded grabbing a bag from Embry as he went to grab the other 2 that were there. "I haven't gotten to check out the upstairs yet. We pretty much just got here, though I'm glad you were able to come join us for dinner tonight."
He smiled as we started poking our heads into each one of the rooms that was upstairs when we got to the end of the hallway where one of the rooms looked to be big and there was another door on the far-right side of it I smiled. "This has to be it."
Embry smiled as he walked into the room looking around. All that was in it was a bed, dresser, desk and 2 other doors. "Guessing one is a bathroom and the other is a closet."
We smiled at each other as we both opened one door each. I smiled wide when I seen the size of the bathroom which was behind my door. There was a massive sink, a toilet and shower with a rainfall shower head as well as a wand one. I felt hands wrap around my waist and it had me smiling widely leaning into the body behind me. "I have missed this."
Embry just nodded. "I know you have. It has been about a week since we have gotten any alone time at all. Normally Jake or Rachel is around."
I nodded. "At least right now Ryan and Birkoff are downstairs, and we can have some quiet time, but we should probably get my stuff unpacked. Though most of it is probably a mess cause I just threw everything into the cases this afternoon when Sam told us that this was happening."
Embry nodded and walked towards the bags on the bed. "Well lets get to it then. I think we can probably get this done pretty soon."
We worked quietly together putting things away when he had a question as to where I wanted something put away, he would just wave at me grabbing my attention. The two of us together have really enjoyed this time. When we were finished, I grabbed his hand leading him from the room just as Ryan came to the bottom of the stairs.
"Oh, good you two are on your way down. Go wash up for dinner I am about to finish setting the table, then it will be time to eat."
We both headed back to the room washing our hands for dinner before heading back down to the dining room. Then looked into the kitchen, all I had said for dinner was chicken spaghetti pretty much and by the looks of things Ryan had done an okay job at it. I would have to discuss my food issues with them at one point and though Embry will probably laugh about the situation it is nice to see. After grabbing some dinner, we both sat down at the table. Embry set his phone on the table the same way he normally did when we were eating dinner over at Emily's. Sam didn't like them taking calls while they were eating so this is one way to see what was happening. We ate quietly for a few minutes before Ryan started asking some questions.
"So, Charlie what courses are you taking this semester?"
I smiled finished what was in my mouth before answering him. "English, Functions, Computer science, Gym, History and Psychology."
Birkoff nodded then turned to Embry asking him the same question.
"Pretty much the same as Charlie but instead of Psychology I have human sciences it is a combination class. She is better at seeing patterns in things and needed Psychology to take Analytics next year."
Ryan nodded. "That sounds like a fun course. So here is the big question are you two actually dating or was your brother just saying stuff?"
Both Embry and I blushed looking down at our food. Though Embry saved me from answering when he answered. "We are really good friends, have been really close for several years. Charlie and I have spent most of our lives together. Are we officially dating, well neither one of us likes putting labels on things so take that as what you will."
Birkoff nodded. "I am with you on that one, labels make things messy. Do you have any questions for us Charlie; if you do go ahead and ask them?"
I glanced up at Embry grabbing his hand for a second under the table. "Why did both of you decide to do this?"
Ryan smiled at the two of us. "Well, I assume just like you we both enjoy a challenge. It was one of Micheal's army buddies who called and asked us to do this, so I guess that is another reason. But as to why you got to live with us that was all me. We had gotten files on both you and your brother and I thought it would be nice to have another person in the house who likes to analyze things, that is what I do for a living."
I nodded not having any other questions to ask either of them. That is when Embry's phone went off. It had been sitting on the table beside his plate. When he seen it was Sam calling, he looked up at both Birkoff and Ryan. "I should take this, if Sam is calling when we are having dinner, and he knows we are having dinner then it must be important."
Birkoff nodded to him pointing to the living room as Embry put the phone to his ear and walked that way. "So, you have a counselling appointment this week." When I went to protest the idea; he held up his hand to me. "I know you don't want to go. But what if I gave you a bit of an incentive to actually make it there. I noticed there is a diner in Fork, do you and Embry like to go?"
I nodded. "Though it is expensive about $50 for us to have what we both want."
Birkoff nodded. "How about this, if you go to the appointment then I will go and get you a gift card from there for $25 each session you attend."
I looked between both him and Ryan. "Okay."
Embry's POV
I took the phone into the living room where Birkoff had pointed for me to go. "Hey Sam, we are kind of in the middle of dinner."
I could hear a huff on the other end of the line. 'I know Embry, but I need to know from one of the other two that Charlie is actually talking to them.'
I nodded sticking my head out to the dining room. "Ryan, can I borrow you for a second." I asked holding my phone to my shirt. "Sam wants to know that Charlie is actually talking to you right now."
Ryan nodded as I pulled my phone away and turned on the speaker.
"Hi, you have Ryan here. Charlie has been talking fine throughout dinner tonight."
'Well, that is a relief. I sorry to have disturbed your dinner.' With that he hung up the phone leaving me just looking at Ryan.
"What was that about?" He asked as I turned to walk back towards the kitchen.
I shrugged. "Best guess would have something to do with Johnathan and Leah next door. They are probably texted each other through dinner and not speaking to whoever is over there."
Ryan nodded. "Alright. Let's get back into the dining room. Birkoff and I want to discuss the house rules with the two of you over dessert."
I nodded to him heading back into the dining room where we found Birkoff and Charlie discussing video games and getting ice cream sundaes for dessert.
Sitting down at the table beside her I smiled to both Birkoff and Ryan. "Ryan said something about house rules when we were in the living room."
Ryan nodded before Charlie spoke up. "What did Sam want?"
I shrugged. "Honestly, it was really confusing all he asked when I had Ryan there is if you were talking to Ryan and Birkoff through dinner. Ryan confirmed that you have been then Sam basically hung up."
Birkoff smiled. "If anything is up, we will see Mikey tomorrow at work and we can discuss stuff with him then." Birkoff smiled grabbing a pen and paper. "Ryan and I were talking, and we thought the house rules we came up with are reasonable. And we were going to get your opinion on them before we made the official."
Charlie nodded talking a spoonful of ice cream and eating it. "I'm okay with that idea."
Birkoff started off. "Now I don't understand this but apparently the school has a rule that you can only hand out homework on Fridays and assignments need to be given a week to complete."
I nodded. "Though there is something funny with that. You can assign a page of work during class that needs to be completed and expect it to be done when we walk into the class the next day, but we have to be given at least half the class to work on it."
Birkoff nodded. "Okay so this I think is fair. Unless it is a group assignment all homework must be done on Friday night or Embry can't come over on Sunday until it is done."
I scratched my head. "What about Saturday?"
Ryan smiled. "Birkoff likes to leave Saturdays as stay in pyjamas and lay around the house days. Not really do much. So, you could potentially come over that day but Sunday it is back to work. I will be checking your homework as well to make sure it did get done. But that said if you have a question, you can always come to either one of us and we will be more than willing to help you with it."
I nodded. "I can easily work Friday evenings and that way you can have time to get that done and any group assignments we can leave for the next day to do."
Charlie nodded licking the spoon. "I like the idea of you removing the temptation of us seeing each other and therefore I can get all my homework done and just power through whatever it is. But what happens with assignments I mean they might not be due until the following Friday."
Ryan nodded. "If that is the cause I do want you to at least get started on the assignment. Show me that you have done something on it by Saturday evening and you are in the clear."
Charlie just nodded. I knew she was getting sleepy. Her eyes just kept closing though I knew her homework was done when I looked at her books and I knew that she would have done it anyway even if I wasn't working on Friday evening it is just going to be easier for the both of us. "Any other rules. I know Charlie here is getting sleepy. Today has been rough."
Ryan nodded. "I think the other big one we have is that when Embry comes over if you are up in your room that the door remains open at least a foot."
Charlie nodded to that one resting her head on my shoulder. "Anything else. I really am getting sleepy right now."
Birkoff shook his head. "We can go over the others tomorrow evening at dinner after we get home from grocery shopping in Forks. Unless you are willing to make a list of things you want for snacks and lunches and give it to Ryan in the morning."
Charlie shook her head. "Nope. I want to be there to pick out the snacks. Me and food have a very interesting relationship."
I laughed. "Yes, you are a picky eater."
"I am not. Just because certain foods don't agree with my mouth doesn't mean I am a picky eater."
Birkoff laughed shaking his head. "Not to worry. We can discuss your food preferences over breakfast in the morning. But if you want to get to bed, go ahead. Make sure you have an alarm set for the morning for school."
Charlie nodded playing with my hand as she looked down at me. "Come tuck me in for the night?"
I nodded. "Sure. Do I get to undo the braid?"
She nodded heading for the stairs.
When we got to the room she went for the bathroom after grabbing pyjamas which we had left on the bed. When she came out and snuggled under the covers, I took her brush and began to brush her hair quietly. This usually did calm her down quite a bit allowing her to sleep. It had been the only thing that helped some nights is having me do this. When she had fallen asleep, I put the brush on her bedside table and left the room closing the door quietly behind me.
"I am heading out. Don't worry about Charlie and her picky habits. It is mostly some meats that she won't eat. Though I hope you guys like chicken and hamburger."
Ryan looked at me. "What makes you say that?"
I laughed. "Honestly, she eats those and sausages upon occasion. But she won't touch much else meat wise that is."
Birkoff glared. "So, if we want steak?"
I nodded. "Make her a chicken breast or a burger she will be fine with either."
Ryan nodded. "It isn't uncommon for trauma cases to do this."
I shook my head raising my head. "First of all, don't use that word around Charlie. She doesn't think of herself like that. Secondly, this started long before her parents died. She has kind of always been like this with some foods. Don't ask me why because I don't know. I think that is partially why she is taking psychology because she wants to understand."
Ryan smiled. "That is good to know. Anything else we should avoid with her?"
I thought for a second. "I know Sam wants her to go to counselling, but I suggest you stay out of that completely. Any deal you make with her she will back door it and force you to still pay up because she has listened. Best suggestion is to leave the matter alone. Not even my influence can force her to go to them and fully participate."
Birkoff paled. "I already spoke to her about a deal about her going to the appointment that she has on Tuesday."
I face palmed. "Let me guess she agreed to go to the appointment."
He nodded. "Almost too fast it felt like, but the deal is pretty good."
I smiled. "Oh, she will go to the appointment. Then sit there and tell Sue that she isn't talking to her about anything. That is if she actually decides to speak in the appointment at all. But you already made the deal so let's hope that it works out better than it has in the past."
Ryan smiled. "I hope so too. If not, we have a few other tricks up our sleeves. I was thinking Sam might be one to help in this matter." When he seen the look on my face he explained. "Not the one you know but a friend of ours. He should be here next week for at least a few days, and he might be able to get Charlie talking a bit more."
I nodded heading for the door. "I have a few things for school I have to finish up before tomorrow. I know Charlie did her homework on Friday evening she as sitting there arguing about some debate thing with Jake for their English class. And I have to see if I can swap out one of my shifts with someone on Sunday to work Friday night through that shouldn't be too hard of a task."
They both nodded following me to the door.
"Thanks for the advice. We will see you in class tomorrow." Birkoff nodded to me as I walked towards my car.
