Owen's POV
I watched around as Alex finished her speech. My senses were up at ten as if we were being watched by more than just the audience right now, and I didn't like it. We were going to the airport tonight to catch a plane to Seattle. Then we would have a car take us to La Push.
When Alex got to me, she noticed my change and seemed a little freaked out. "What is going on with you right now, Owen?"
I shrugged not wanting to alarm her. I had been having this feeling for the past few weeks now and I just couldn't shake it. I had chatted with Michael and Birkoff but both of them seemed to think that it was just me being paranoid again, but it wasn't that. My head was completely clear, and my debts were being taken care of.
When we got into the car, she asked the driver to put up the divider and wait for her to signal him as to when to go. "Are you going to tell me?" She huffed giving me one of her signature looks. "I know you called both Michael and Ryan."
I shook my head. "I spoke to Seymour. Besides I am not paranoid. I have been having this feeling like we have been being watched lately though I can't put my finger on it, and it seems like every time I try to figure it out nothing is there."
She shook like visibly shook. "I have been feeling the same way. The other night in the shower I almost called you to check out the hotel room cause I swear someone was watching me."
That is when I noticed we had actually moved. We were now parked in front of the hotel were we had stayed last night. I mean yes, we still needed to pick up our stuff; yet Alex had told the driver to stay at the concert hall where she had just given her speech. "Why are we back at the hotel? Didn't you ask the driver to wait for further instructions?"
She nodded looking around. "That is officially weird. But Oliver knew how tired I was so maybe he thought we could talk and then go into the hotel. Besides we aren't catching the flight until tomorrow morning anyway. Nikita said it would be easier for Michael to pick us up on Thursday morning anyway and with all the layovers this gets us in there pretty nice timing for that."
I nodded. "Okay." I shrugged not liking this at all. Getting out of the car and walking around the car to open Alex's door for her.
She stopped out leaning in close to me. "I don't like this."
I nodded walking into the hotel with her. "We hit up one room then we go to the other and we stay in the same room tonight. I suggest we stay in yours. I can sleep on the couch."
She nodded. "I think that is the best idea."
I had all of my stuff packed so it was just a matter of grabbing the suitcase and bag before wheeling them both out. They rolled together which still left me one hand clear if I needed a gun. When we made it to her room she walked in cautiously. Glancing around to see if anything had been moved. She picked up a hairbrush that was sitting right by the door.
"This was in the basket not just on the counter." She told me sending me into high alert again. "They are still here." She pointed to the bedroom.
I walked towards the door opening it slowly to see someone sitting in the armchair just watching the news on TV. "Oh, good you are finally back, I have been waiting way too long."
Alex pushed past me going right up to him. "Who are you and why are you in my hotel room? Also, have you been the one who has been watching us?"
He pushed past her heading for the main room doing a follow me motion the entire time. When we made it to the main part of the living space in the hotel room he smiled.
"Now, I came here looking for someone. He has something of mine and I desperately need it returned to me." He thought for a second. "Well, no that isn't quite true. You see this thing isn't actually mine it technically belongs to a girl, but I just need to make sure that Billy doesn't get his hands on it before I can destroy it."
Alex pulled her hair back into a ponytail before she walked towards him. "You never answered my questions."
He laughed. "Fine you want those first. My name is Nolan, you don't need to know more than that when it comes to identity. I am in your hotel room to try and find the location of Sean, you know the Navy Seal who use to be seen everywhere with you." He held up several pictures taken years ago, some had Alex in them a few were of me and Sean. "As for your final question, no I haven't been the one watching you for the past while. Though I know who has been, let me put it to you this way. He wants what I want and for the same person. Whoever brings him this package gets paid, so if you could please hand over your friend or at least his whereabouts then maybe I will let you live through the night."
I stood in front of Alex. "Sean died. As to where is body is I don't know. But that was years ago so whatever he had that your boss wanted I'm sorry it is probably gone now."
Nolan smiled, scratching the back of his head with is gloved hand. "Dead, really? Okay if that is how you want to play this." He took a card out of his jacket pocket. "If he happens to make himself undead any time soon, please give me a call. I would be more than happy to share a finder's fee with you, Owen." With that he placed the card on the table and walked out.
Alex hugged up to me. "I can't believe them. After all this time they come looking for him."
I nodded. "Go get some sleep." Going over to the table to look at the card he had placed there. The symbol on it was something new to me. I had never seen anything like it before though if I could get it to Ryan then maybe he could look into it as well as this Billy person.
I settled on the couch looking at the card studying it similar to the way we used to do as cleaners. What ever Sean had been wrapped up in prior to coming to division wasn't good. Though this guy seemed rather surprised when I had said that Sean was dead. My phone rang beside me, I glanced at it opening the message.
Sender: Unknown
You need to gather everything and leave the hotel now.
It is no longer safe for you there. Take the girl and run, go black.
I double checked the sender and the number that I didn't recognize. I screenshotted the pictures of the texts and sent them to Ryan. Hopefully he would be able to get some answers. Then I sent him the card along with the names Nolan and Billy to see what he could figure out.
Ryan got back to me instantly.
Who was he person who gave you this card looking for?
I glanced towards the bedroom door.
He was looking for Sean. He wanted something that Sean had and to be able to destroy it before someone named Billy got a hold of it. As far as I know his name is Nolan though no last names for anyone. Just see what you can find out.
Ryan's reply was instant.
I will head for the office right now and see what I can dig up. Oh, by the way we need your help talking to Charlie. She isn't doing so well with counsellors here.
I huffed. Whoever had sent me the message obviously knew who I was, but I still didn't know them at all, so I decided to get some answers for myself.
Who is this and why should I believe you?
Okay it may have been dumb, to answer them but I wasn't going to go to Alex and tell her we had to leave now unless I knew for certain that we were really in trouble. I put my phone down and waited for some kind of a reply. After an hour of nothing I fell asleep awaiting what tomorrow would bring.
Charlie's POV
Tuesday. I groaned as I looked at my phone. I had that counselling appointment today. Though Birkoff had said that I only had to attend the appointment to get the gift card. I got up throwing on some clothes for school. I settled on a t-shirt and jeans. I would throw on a sweatshirt before leaving.
I sent Embry a text telling him I was awake and was going to try this breakfast thing. Yesterday the entire idea of eating hadn't gone so well. It had stayed down long enough to get to school then it had all come back up. Kim had seen me puking but had promised not to tell any of the guys. I doubt that I could have her keep it to herself if it managed to happen again.
Embry sent back that he had a quiet night after he left only doing a bit more work before heading to bed himself. He was heading to Emily's unless I wanted him to come join me for breakfast here. I laughed at the simple thought of that. Emily made a huge breakfast there for them there probably wouldn't be enough food here for him to eat.
I headed for the kitchen grabbing 3 slices of pizza from the box putting them into a bag and into my backpack. I glanced at Birkoff. "No Ryan?"
He just shrugged. "Something about some work stuff came up and he had to head into the office last night still isn't home yet." He pointed to the fridge. "Please try to have some of the yogurt drink that we picked up. Also, Embry said something about your appointment might be changed to going to see Emily today."
I shrugged. "Ya. I heard from Sam last night that Emily is filling in for today. Though I still think you lot are overreacting about all of this. The last time something happened it wasn't even my fault. Those girls came at me, I was merely defending myself."
He laughed. "That line might work on Nikki or even Mikey but don't try it on me."
I shook my head. "It isn't a line it happens to be the truth. I am supposed to head over to see Emily just after lunch. Though Embry said we might go over during lunch which would give me some peace and quiet from those girls. Them he, Jake and Quil will get our group assignment from Michael during class though I have already followed proper procedure and sent an email off to him explaining that I have an appointment that has been approved by the head of the reservation to miss his class this afternoon and have put the individuals who are getting my work for me." I was slightly stalling. I knew what would happen if I tried to eat anything even if it was a liquid before 9am. Sue had been trying to get to the bottom of the time thing, but she hadn't been able to. Though I had a pretty good guess as to what it might be.
Birkoff nodded pointing at the fridge again. "Charlie please. We let you pick out the kinds we got, and they aren't even that big."
I just shrugged, sitting there for another minute before I got up and grabbed one of them from the fridge drinking it completely hoping this would make him happy. "There … it is empty now. I am going to go meet up with Embry and then go to school."
Going out the door I called Embry. I could hear the usual noise of Emily's place in the background.
"I need a ride to school."
'Sure, are you okay?'
I shrugged. "I don't know. My stomach doesn't feel so well."
'Alright just stay where you are. Jake and I are on our way.'
I could hear Jake's car in the background as they raced down the street. 'Charlie where are you?'
"Just down the road from my new house"
Then I couldn't hold my stomach any longer. What I had eaten for breakfast and the pizza from last night came back up. Before I knew it warm hand were wrapped around me and Embry was holding my hair back for me.
"You really do look terrible, how often has this been happening?"
I shrugged before meeting his eyes and the answer just came out at that point. "Every time I try to eat before 9am since my parent's passed. Sue has been trying to figure out why 9am but I am pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that it was 9am when we found out about my parent's passing."
He nodded over to Jake. "I think we need to get this looked at. Like maybe we go to Sam and see about getting you into Forks Hospital to see Carlisle."
I shook my head. "No, I'll be fine." I stood up holding my head. "I usually eat between the first two classes and I'm good then until lunch. We don't need to bother a doctor about this, I simply just need to get Birkoff and Ryan off of my case about eating first thing in the morning."
Jake nodded. "I'll talk to Sam about both things. Charlie, we do need to get this looked at though. It has been going on for over a year if it is the case."
I growled at him. "I know that. I know they have been gone for over a year. Then finding that letter last night. What does it say? If it somehow holds some answers as to why my parents died, I want to know that. All it said was to get the letter to him that he would know what to do with it."
Jake stepped back looking at Embry. They were having another one of their private conversations that they seem to have every so often though right now I didn't care. After a few minutes of it though Jake just huffed. I had learned to listen for that, it seemed whichever one huffed they had lost the battle they were having during these conversations.
Embry helped me up and handed me a few treats. "They are for between classes. Now we should be getting to school don't want to be late."
It was only a few blocks to school but when we got there Embry looked at me. "You are heading to Emily's after lunch today?"
I shook my head. "I was hoping we could go there during lunch. You know get away from the few annoyances that keep bothering me."
He nodded, "I'm sure that can be arranged."
Three classes that is all I had to get through and hopefully I would be able to avoid all the annoyances between the classes. I stuck with Embry for the first two making sure I ate between the first and second one. Our third class was with Birkoff, and he acted like a regular teacher when Tamara started her usual stuff and just smiled when Birkoff let it happen.
Embry whispered over to me. "She must have told her mom and had Birkoff be talked to about what he did yesterday."
I nodded and tried to ignore her. For the most part it was fairly easy Embry and I had our assignment to work on and we took the computer closest to Birkoff's desk which would mean she would have had to sit up there with her partner if she wanted to annoy us. Though our assignment was pretty close to done.
After the classes were done, we headed for our lockers and then off to Emily's place. When we got there, I looked at Embry. "So does any one else in your human science class have that book?"
He gulped. "You spoke to Quil?"
I nodded. "He had no idea about that project said he was going to go ask the teacher about it maybe he had missed it when he was at work or something. Though I convinced him not to saying that maybe I had misheard you."
"Sam needed to know the story and none of us knew it. So, I figured I could ask you to look for the book and see if you could find it. I had no clue that is where the letter was hidden." He smiled.
"So, Sam was looking for the letter?" I asked.
He nodded. "Yes, he was trying to find it. Old Quil had said there should have been 2, one to each of you though he had no idea that it was supposed to go to Sam." He hugged me as we walked into the side door at Emily's. "Though I don't think he knew what it was going to say, he was hoping it might hold some answers to a few things for us and for you."
I nodded before pulling my lunch out of my bag, going over to the microwave to heat it up. Emily smiled when she entered the kitchen. "So, I know you were supposed to have your session with me this afternoon, but something has come up and Sam needs the house. So, you are going to have to go over to see Sue about this."
I glanced over at Embry it looked like his eyes were almost bugging out of his head. I just shrugged and tapped Embry on the knee. "Don't worry about this it is all going to be fine." I looked at Emily with a smile. "Can I stay and finish my lunch at least?"
She nodded and smiled. "Of course you can." She looked at Embry for a second. "You can even walk her over to the appointment then you need to get back to school."
He nodded and continued eating. When we were done lunch, I smile and yelled out the door at Emily that we were leaving, and I was taking a few muffins to have during my afternoon.
Embry smiled at me. "You going to hide out in the library when you get back to school?"
I nodded. "We have history last so I should definitely be back for that. Plus, I am almost done all of the booklet for this week for psychology."
Embry just groaned. "You didn't jump far ahead in history, did you?"
I laughed shaking my head as we rounded the corner to Sue's house. "Nope, I only worked on it a bit last night while I was waiting for Birkoff to get done with his meeting with Mikey. I didn't work on our history stuff at all outside of class yesterday."
When we got to Sue's house she was waiting for me. I shook then remembered all I had to was attend the meeting. Birkoff hadn't said anything about me participating in it. Embry waved as I climbed the steps to her door and knocked.
"Charlie, I'm glad you could come." Sue welcomed me into the house.
I nodded to her and walked into the house heading for the living room. "Yes, I came." I rolled my eyes at her sitting down on the couch.
Sue took a seat in the chair crossing her legs. Leaning back in the chair with a clipboard in her hand. "I am very glad that you decided to come."
I nodded. "Well Birkoff promised me a 25-dollar gift card for the Forks Diner if I came to the appointment." I started picking at the muffin. "So, I am here. Nothing more."
Sue looked concerned. "So, you don't want to discuss anything?"
I simply shook my head and continued to pick at the muffin eating it small bit by bit. "I want to just finish this muffin then head back to the school and get the history booklet along with Embry."
Sue set the clipboard aside. "Have you had any other insight about the breakfast issues?"
I growled. Not too sure what else to do. "Jake and I talked about those this morning as a matter of fact after he and Embry came to pick me up for school." That wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the complete truth either. She knew enough from watching the guys that Jake was someone close enough to the top that he would be her ticket out of this mess. I smiled going back to my muffin, they were double chocolate one of my favourite kinds.
"Okay well that is at least good. I am glad Jake has been able to help you work through those issues a bit more than I have been able to." She leaned back taking a sip from her cup thinking for a few long minutes. "How are things going in the new house? With your new parents?"
I focused on the muffin. A trick that Embry and Jake had taught me months ago when they realized that this counselling thing wasn't helping very much. I shut my eyes hearing Jake speak to me in my head very calmly. 'Just focus on one little thing, bring everything back to that one little thing. As small as a crumb or a chocolate chip. Hold your focus there and not let it go. Hold it there until you finally feel the rage start to subside then start opening things up again.' When I was calm, I looked up at her. "Fine. They are going fine."
Sue glanced at me but nodded. If this woman was trying to get me pissed off or to show any kind of emotions at all about my parents, she wasn't going to succeed. "Okay then, that wasn't exactly the answer I was expecting but I am very glad to hear it."
The timer went and I bolted from my seat. "Talk to Sam about the next one he will let me know." And with that I was gone out of the house on a quick walk almost a run back to school.
Unknown POV
"DANGER! DANGER! DANGER!"
I woke up to the alarms going on computer. I had set up safeties in case anything happened. It would seem like right now something was happening.
I hit a button on the keyboard. Paris. Who did I know that was in Paris right now? I looked through all my files.
"Incoming message"
I checked the computer allowing it to do a check of the message before it deleted it unknowing the sender of it. I was off the radar technically black. Once every other week supplies were dropped off on the edge of the property in a box. It was something that someone who had managed to save me had set up. I could only assume it was a he. They had set up the computer with all the security on it, though I was still trying to figure out what all the alarms were for. They normally came when I was awake, but this one had woken me from the first good sleep I had been having in a month.
"Delivery day tomorrow, place order now!"
I nodded to the computer. "I'll get right on that. Maybe get the identity of who quote saved end quote me." It stayed quiet after that. That was one of the many mysteries I had been trying to figure out. But needless to say I was making very little progress on that one. The question about the woman though I had finally made a few discoveries with pushing my memory.
I knew she was military. She had been taken captive by some group somewhere in the world and ended up in our little corner. The case hadn't come back to me until all of this began though so the two things must be tied together. Percey had been hired by someone to get those letters. Division had to be behind it but I doubt they would have done this.
But her cries when I took my helmet off still confused me. She looked right at me and then she gave into the torture and flames. Being burned alive right in front of my eyes. Almost as if she knew her death would mean we couldn't get what we came for. It was confusing. I needed help from someone who knew these things and how they worked. I needed somehow to contact a friend.
