Charlie's POV

When we were done eating Embry and I decided it was time to challenge Jake and Quil to some rock band the loser would have to do the unwanted presentation parts next week. They had told me already that we weren't going to be having health class tomorrow though wondered what could be keeping the teacher away for the class.

I shrugged, getting to a song I knew we could win at. "Birkoff said something about some friends of theirs coming from somewhere for a visit. They are staying with Nikita and Mikey though."

Embry smiled as I handed him a controller. "Well, that works for us though the project isn't due until next week and the written part is already done."

Jake nodded. "Yep. You asked Ryan to read it over, didn't you?"

I smiled. "I left it on his desk in his office with a sticky note asking him to check it. He said something about checking homework on Saturday night, but I thought he could get a jump start on this." I laughed starting the song. "Embry, I also gave Birkoff our computer assignment for him to look over. He laughed when I handed it to him after class today saying it was done, and I didn't want it hanging over our heads any more this week. He said we just must sign into class the rest of the week then we can leave. So, we could do something tomorrow for the afternoon."

We finished playing scoring more than we ever had. That caused Jake to give me a really odd look. "Your reflexes are getting faster."

I shrugged. "Or could it be I am just getting to know that song so well that I know exactly what to do when in order to get the best score possible."

Jake just shrugged. "Actually guys, Quil and I will do whatever part you don't want to do for the presentation. I have to go talk to Sam about something." He left going to the Den where they were having their meeting before dinner. Sam had retreated back into there just after.

"What was that about?" I asked looking at the other two.

Embry shrugged. "Not sure but something has him spooked."

Quil nodded. "And now I get the worst end of this. Can't we just make Jake do the worst part of the presentation?"

Embry laughed. "Only if you can get him to agree to that." He pulled me over to the couch and put on the second Harry Potter movie which we had started watching the other night.

Jake's POV

I ran for the Den. I couldn't believe this was just making sense to me now. "My father." I said to him when the door was shut.

Sam looked up from his book. "What about your father?"

"He would have known about all of this. The dead sibling. The curse. All of it. Our fathers were in charge of the reservation when all of this happened." I started pacing the room.

Sam shook, maybe he hadn't realized it yet either. "Would either of them know what Charlie will become I mean we both suspect she will be like us but even Carlisle says he doesn't know."

"I am heading over there to see Nessie anyway. I think I can chat with them for a bit, have them look into the records. See if you can set up a meeting with our fathers here tomorrow afternoon. I only have classes in the morning."

Sam shook. "That means Charlie only has class in the morning. Which means she will probably be here for the afternoon."

I sat down for a second. "Well, that doesn't help us. Unless you call the school, give Embry permission to skip his human studies class. I'm sure he would love some time with Charlie over at her place. I can tell him we are looking into trying to get some answers as to what was said in the letter."

Sam smiled. "We could do that. You wouldn't be lying to Embry, and I am sure Charlie would appreciate the time with Embry alone for a bit."

He opened the door to the living room, calling both Charlie and Embry inside. The letter was put into his drawer in his desk, so that neither Charlie nor Embry could see it.

"Alright, I know you two have been doing amazing this week with everything. So, I was thinking how would you like to spend the afternoon together tomorrow? There is just one condition on it."

Charlie smiled. "What is the condition?"

I looked at the two of them. "You can't spend it here."

Embry laughed. "So, we could have the entire afternoon off together. I would have to get my human studies work though, wouldn't I?"

Sam nodded. "Yes, but you could pick it up in the morning and you could leave as early as lunch time."

Charlie laughed. "Is it possible we leave during computers, Birkoff said that we just have to sign in then we can go. The assignment which they are spending the class working on tomorrow and Friday we already have done."

We both nodded. "So, the beach or Charlie's place or the library in Forks even if you want."

Embry was swaying on the idea until Charlie got up on her toes and whispered into Embry's ear. "Ryan will be at work so will Birkoff. We could, you know."

That had me curious. Those two together were a really good pair but after we had chatted with Embry, I started thinking about the fact that some mornings when Charlie had opened her door to her room, I could smell him in there. She had always responded with something else like she was wearing his shirt, or I had his smell on my brain. That last one she usually said when Rachel or Paul was around, and I would get razzed about it from both of them.

I looked over at Sam who was just smiling. We shooed the two love birds back out to their movie before I turned to him. "They are up to something."

Sam nodded. "But as long as we can keep them away from this until we know everything then that would be good."

"You know her two fathers right now have some serious tech in the house. Aren't you worried that they could find out something? I mean I don't know much about her parent's death but there must be something somewhere."

Sam shook his head. "I was assured that the stuff that was there at one point has been removed completely. So, unless something has come up since then we should be safe."

I smiled to him. "Fine if you trust them. Any idea what the situation is between Leah and Johnathan, I mean if he is normal then if she did imprint on him, they would know wouldn't they?"

Sam shrugged. "There are too many mysteries around this family. I know Collet had a duty to the country and all, but I don't understand why she would go on a mission that she knew could be her last one."

I stood up from the chair. "I don't know. You talk to Leah, see if you can find out anything there. I am going over to see Nessie and ask Carlisle about that other thing. Did you want me to mention the other situation?"

Sam shook his head. "I had a chat with Birkoff and Ryan today concerning it. It took some work but eventually we got Ryan convinced that her eating between the first two periods would be okay. If you wanted to let her know about that. Birkoff though asked if she would take the yogurt drink to have at school instead of cookies or something like that."

"Yes, I will inform her before I leave. You want me to grab Leah for you?" I asked placing my hand on the doorknob.

He shook his head. "That is one conversation I will have later."

I opened the door and walked out into the living room to find Charlie and Embry just sitting there watching a movie together. "Embry, pause the movie for a second." He groaned but did as I had asked him to do. "Okay, so Sam spoke with Ryan and Birkoff about this no food before 9am thing. They will lay off the demands, but they want you to take the yogurt drink to have with whatever we pick up for you from here."

Charlie nodded sleepily. "Okay." She gave me two thumbs up before putting her head back down on Embry's chest.

"Did you want me to drive you two over to her place for the night?" I asked. "It is on the way to the Cullen's anyway."

Charlie giggled but nodded. "That would probably be best. We can finish the movie tomorrow over at my place. We got the TV, and everything set up."

Embry grabbed the DVD from the player and placed it back into the case. "You go wait out in Jake's car. I want a word with him and Sam about something really quick before we go."

Charlie just nodded giving him a kiss before leaving the house and heading out to my car.

Embry just pointed to the den as we both walked in there. "Okay. You both have been up to something, and I know it has to do with the letter." He turned to Sam. "You would never just allow us to skip class like that. Why are you trying to keep Charlie from here tomorrow."

Sam hung his head. "The letter you delivered the other day. We need to have a meeting with both of our fathers pertaining to something it said. We think they both know some stuff when it comes to the curse and the fact that they have remained quiet, this would be the proof we need about this."

I nodded to him. "What happened was before Sam's time of leading, but it was obvious that her parents were in the loop cause it tells her in the letter that the legends are all true. We want to know how they both knew about the wolves."

Embry looked around for a second. "Neither one were from a bloodline though."

Sam looked at him. "What do you mean?"

Embry just waved his hand at Sam. "History class two years ago. Just after her mom left on the last mission, we had to do an assignment for tracing our family history. Charlie called her mom to get theirs and she did a bunch of research down at the courthouse in Forks." Embry looked at his phone. "We should get going."

When he turned for the door, my eyes turned the molten brown as I told him to "Stop" he turned around looking at me. "What else did she find?"

He shrugged. "Honestly, she wouldn't tell me. It is the only time that she handed a project in not completely done. When the teacher asked her about it, she took the entire write up and stuck it in the shredder. Took a zero on the project, whatever she found it is something she won't even talk to me about, Jake."

Sam scratched his head. "Well, she maybe found something that wasn't that great. Just leave the matter for right now. Jake, you need to go chat with Carlisle and I need to have a chat with Leah concerning Johnathan." My eyes met his for a second. "It isn't about that, unfortunately I got word from one of the teachers that Johnathan failed another history quiz. Fourth one in a row and he hasn't been doing the work. I am going to find out about the other thing and explain that if he doesn't pick up his grades, he will be forbidden to come over here after school and she will be forbidden to see him."

We left walking out the door. Embry looked at me before we made it there. "I am glad that Charlie at least through everything has managed to keep an A average. Her lowest mark was in computers before, but the girl does get what is happening in class. I will be surprised if we don't end up with a 90% on the assignment."

I laughed. "She is smart. Just don't forget to pick up your human studies work before you leave tomorrow." I reminded him before we started driving.

Charlie smiled. "I already logged into your email account and sent a message off to the teacher explaining that you will be away, but you will see her before third period to pick up your work for the day and if she misses handing you anything just to give it to Quil for us and he can drop it off."

Embry smiled. "You want your hair braided in 2 or just 1 braid tonight?" He asked. When I gagged, he just laughed. "Oh, maybe we should talk to Nessie see if she wants hers done, Jake can do it for her." As he laughed Charlie got my car to call her.

Her voice was as sweet as ever when she answered, 'Jake, thought you were coming over?'

Charlie got into the phone before I could end the call. "Oh, he is Nessie. Just dropping Embry and I off at my house first. But we were thinking Embry braids my hair at night for me. And you were saying you were having trouble sleeping. I mean it helps me, maybe it would help you?"

I couldn't hear her response as it was no longer on speaker in the phone, but we pulled up to Charlie's house as she grabbed her bag and got out of the car. Handing me back my phone through the passenger door when Embry got out.

'You told them about me having trouble sleeping.'

I almost growled at my phone. "No. Embry overheard my worry one day when we were phased. I had no idea he had mentioned something to Charlie. But she might have a point. I am leaving her place now, but I need to talk to your grandfather when I get there first."

'I think he went out with Esme."

"Okay, well we will see when I get there. I need someone to look into something for me. Jasper might be the next best one. See you in less than 10, sweet girl."

She didn't say anything else, but she didn't hang up the phone either. It just sat on the seat beside me still on speaker but not connected up to the Bluetooth. How that girl managed to get it disconnected before me even realizing it was weird.

When I got to the house Jasper was waiting for me outside. "Alice said you needed a word with me?"

I nodded to him. "Charlie, Carlisle looked into her before but came up empty. Someone put a curse on her. We don't know what the curse is or technically what she is."

"I get Carlisle looking into this but why come to me?"

"When Nessie was born you and Alice were able to find answers. Your council the ones that came after Nessie looked into this. They want the one who cursed Charlie dead too, but they can't kill him. We have the letter that her mother wrote her explaining everything to her."

Jasper started walking. "So, the Volturi know about this, and they have done nothing. That doesn't surprise me. Especially not after what happened last time."

He continued to walk away from the house. "Do you know something?"

Jasper shrugged. "Nothing for certain. Maria knew a lot of vampires, still does. She may have come across the one you are looking for. Though she isn't who I suspect would know the most. A lot has changed since they were here, Alice has heard whispers of things."

I stopped him from walking further away from the house. "Embry imprinted on Charlie we think. We are the first set of wolves in years. Help us, if us destroying this would permanently keep them off our backs would it be worth it?"

Jasper just shook his head. "My love has already risked being captured by more than one group do you really think I want to put her out there again?" He shook before turning back to the house. "I will send out some messages and see what comes back. But that is all I can do."

I nodded. "See if Alice can do. I don't know if she knows many vampires out there, but Embry still doesn't know anything about this. We are going to meet with my father and Sam's tomorrow afternoon to see if there is anything they can remember then I am going to go through Ephraim's journals to see if there is anything in any of them."

He turned walking back towards the house. "Not that it is any of my business but why not just see what happens with Charlie. From what we have all seen the girl is a force of nature, she took on Emmet a few weeks back in a sporting event at the school." He lowered his voice to a whisper. "And she almost beat him. She is smarter than anyone we know."

Nolan's POV

I cursed as I felt more vampires closing in on me again. "Dammit Stefan!" I yelled at the wall. The two brothers had enough of us trying to track down the damn letter. I had no idea why they wanted it though. We had seen 3 of the sets of siblings be born and never once had either of them cared about finding the letters written. What was so different about this set of twins. When I had asked them months ago, they had laughed in my face and told me to get back tracking this Sean character.

Had he managed to join up with someone again. I fixed my cloak and jumped from the tree that I had been hiding in near the airport. I was certain following these two would lead me to Sean. Our scout had managed to get enough pictures of the two of them together over the years that if he was the next one in line it should be hard for him to stay away from his one true love.

Vladimir walked up behind me. "We think he might be hidden in the woods somewhere in Europe. Word reached us that the Volturi have claimed a prize or two that they met when Carlisle called all of us together."

I nodded. "What is in Europe though other than Volterra?"

He turned to me. "That is exactly it. A stronghold of the strongest of our kind. We have searched for others but come up empty. We need to find that letter, this girl and her brother were each given one but they weren't with their parent's things and they weren't in their home. He was sent to retrieve either the parents or the letters and he brought back neither."

I shrunk back. "Do you think maybe the mother and father forgot to write new ones before leaving for this mission?"

He glared at me. "We saved you from them, you were just a child Jane and Felix would have killed you on spot. You know what the laws say about things like that."

I nodded. "Did you want me to return to Europe, I mean it has been quite some time since I have been there."

He thought for a second. "I don't know. Maybe stick around here, find out what you can about this girl maybe even present yourself as a counsellor at her school. You are a new face she might actually open up to you."

"I burned myself. I know Owen and if he is on his way here, we don't want him getting in the way. Maybe you should use someone else and someone that the Cullens won't recognize either."

Stefan came up looking at me and his brother. "He makes a valid point. We could use Taylor at the school for one she knows about the customs with the tribes, it could grant her some advantages."

Vladimir nodded. "That will work." He turned to me. "Make your way to Europe see what you can find but remember what you have been taught about who might be working for the Volturi at the moment. I know many moved over to Aro after a few recent events."

I walked away turning the corner then stopping and listening to what the two were going to talk about thinking no one else was around.

"He is the only one who can stand up to the Volturi and the Egyptian Coven, he can regain us the power we always wanted. All he needs is to come into his own memories and make the right choices to finally take everyone down."

"He will need food when we finally find him."

"What do you think all the little ones around here are for?"

I ran. They were planning to feed us to whatever this thing was they were looking for. It was something that could manage to help them take over the world. I would go to Europe they had enough spies in the world to know if I didn't show up there that they would report in that I had run. After that though I would find this thing they were looking for, and claim it for my own.

Unknown POV

I had been taking sips of the red juice all day and it was satisfying the need for food. It usually was really thick almost like a smoothie. I started thinking more about the guards that came in here. There were only 2 girls that I had seen so far. One was a blonde and she didn't speak at all, okay none of them spoke very much but I had yet to hear her even utter a word. The other one just sort of hovers, never really gets close enough for me to get a good look at her.

The guys there were 4 of them. The youngest it seems is the same height of the blonde girl and they seem to have some kind of connection. Then there is the big one that came at me before the hood ended up over my head.

I thought back to that time. I was against a wall, well desk but close enough. The desk was against a wall so there wasn't anyone behind me. No one was beside me either so how did the hood get over my head without anyone putting it there.

The other two guys I couldn't put anything about them other than they seemed to look at each other the same way siblings would look at one another. Like long lost siblings. I remember seeing that look in her face once, when we found someone, she thought was dead.

I shuttered. "This line of thinking wasn't going to help me now. I had to keep her out of my mind if I ever was going to make it out of this alive." I screamed.

"I wouldn't do that."

I turned looking at the other woman who was one of my guards. "Why is that?"

"Because your thoughts of her are what is keeping you from letting him take over. Don't push her away from you, keep her in your thoughts and one day you might just be lucky enough to see her again."

"So, what this place is meant to keep me safe? The guy protecting her won't do it for long. He gets side-tracked."

She nodded and the cloak moved to reveal completely white polished skin. "Tell me about her."

I sat in the easy chair thinking about her. "She is amazing. Though she probably thinks I'm dead or something."

The girl nodded. "You did die. But a great powerful force brought you back to life. It is that force that has been trying to get loose inside you. But you are successfully fighting it."

My hands covered my mouth. "I died. How did I get here? And where is here?"

One of the other guards laughed. "I remember that feeling. Finally waking up to what you really are. How is the thirst?"

I felt my throat. "It hurts but the red juice seems to help." I grabbed the bag and sucked a bit more of it out of the straw. "You didn't really answer me." I focused on the girl again.

She nodded. "Demetri" she pointed at one of the guards at the front door of the home. "Found you just after the transfer happened. He brought you here, to this wonderful cave to help you get stronger. And then you could return to the world after you get trained a bit."

I looked at the guard at the door, he and the darker skinned one seemed like brothers. "Are they siblings too?"

He looked at me. "I think it is time that we gave him access to the file. Let him see what his previous forms did. Reveal to him about Collet and what she saw that day."

My mind raced, Collet where had I heard that name before. I remember reading it somewhere but at the moment I couldn't place it. "Who is Collet?"

The younger nice guy walked in motioning to the two guards at the door. "Collet is the woman who you have been screaming about in your sleep when you actually think your body needs it. You will soon learn that it wastes hours in the day."

I sank back into the memory the seal unit had been tasked with finding the two captives. But from the very beginning it had felt wrong. The guards were arguing around me over whether or not I should know certain details.

"All of you out. Except the one who wanted to know about Alex." I yelled.

When I opened my eyes that I hadn't realized I had closed she was sitting in the chair across from my bed quietly waiting. Sitting perfectly still.

"I understand you not wanting to think about that day. But it was that day that set everything in motion and put you where you are right now. A great deal of people are looking for you and none are for a good reason."

I huffed. "You said thinking and talking about Alex would help this process go better?"

She just smiled. "Your connection to your heart and humanity will help you out when you finally have to make a decision. You will get to meet that lady's children one day and the child she saved that day."

I shook my head. "By killing herself she saved a child?"

"Her child. Collet came to us asking that we spare her having to do this just after they were cursed. But Aro and Marcus didn't agree it was a good enough reason. Caius went behind both of their backs and asked a few of us guard to keep an eye out for you. We contacted a friend of ours to help us you and when your soul would join with his. Then Demetri was sent to find you. He can track across amazing distances. We used covers to transport you to Italy then Benjamin, the darker skinned one you thought was Demetri's sibling, created this." She waved her hands at the rock walls.

"Chelsea, you shouldn't be telling him all this." A voice came from the wall.

"What was that?"

Chelsea, I presumed, just laughed. "Afton, show yourself."

A large man stood beside the bed suddenly. "Where did you come from?"

Afton smiled at Chelsea. "He still doesn't know much, does he?"

She shook her head. "We have a long way to go before we take him to Caius. And then he will probably ship him off to the tribe to see what the girl wants to do with him."

He nodded to her. "If he can hang onto the good heart and humanity this could be the end of the problem completely. When he dies there won't be a rebirth."

She nodded.

It sounded like whatever they were discussing was a good idea. But by what they said there was still a lot for me to learn and I needed the full story to get past all of that.

She looked at me. "Oh, by the way, Alec got your message, you know the one you left for him. He thought it was sweet. But you have a lot to learn and if we are going to convince everyone to give you all the information it is going to take some convincing." She wiggled her eyebrows at Afton.
