Charlie's POV

Embry had been with me for part of the night. We had laughed together like we use to do but something was bothering him. I was hoping that during the afternoon we could at least chat about that. After getting dressed for school I headed down to the kitchen.

Birkoff smiled. "You finished off the pizza last night after you got home from Emily's place?"

I nodded. "Yep. I do eat. I know you two seem to think that I don't but when we got home from Emily's last night despite eating dinner there, we decided we were both still hungry, so I came down and reheated the pizza."

Ryan came up behind me. "Sam did say that you did eat just eating breakfast in the morning was really hard on you."

I nodded again, walking over to the fridge to grab a yogurt drink. "Birkoff, was there anything else beside the yogurt drink you wanted me to have for snack?"

He just shook his head. "When you go over to Emily's in the morning what do you do when everyone else is eating?"

I shrugged. "Normally Embry and I just go outside he brings his plate, and he eats on the back deck." I looked down, playing with the yogurt in my hands. "None of the guys say anything about this. Guess they are just use to it by now."

He nodded before pulling something out of his pocket putting it on the table. "As promised. You went to your appointment which is what was asked of you."

I smiled grabbing the card putting it into my pocket. "Thanks. But Embry has to pick up some schoolwork before we start class today. Sam has given us the entire afternoon off along with the last part of your class."

Ryan nodded. "You left something on my desk the other night."

I nodded. "That is the write up for our gym project which is due next week sometime. I put the layout with it so you can read that. You said you wanted to look over homework before Embry could come over so figured if it was done now then giving it to you early would be fine." I smiled at him knocking on the table. "I have to go. If Embry is going to get his schoolwork on time."

When I had been in Ryan's office the other day, I had found a file that I didn't have a chance to look at really. I was hoping this afternoon with both of them out of the house that Embry could help me snoop around a little bit. Not that I wanted to find out more about my messed-up family, but I was hoping that maybe they would have some answers.

I met him at the corner near Emily's place and we started walking together.

"Everything go okay at home this morning?" he asked when I seemed distracted.

I nodded. "Ya, everything is fine."

He laughed. "So, Jake told me to make sure I go easy on you this afternoon if we do have some fun. He said something about you need to be able to run on Friday."

I just shook my head. "I think he knows that we are together sometimes. There were a few times you slept over that he questioned me about you and me smelling like you. Though I did cover it up quite well with the help of Rachel and Paul."

He stopped me for a second. "He knew we slept together." He started pacing for a second. "Whatever is going on at the house today that Sam doesn't want you around for I bet has something to do with the letter you found the other night."

I shrugged. "Whatever it says it is probably another one of her lies." I wiped the tears away from my eyes before continuing to school. "We have to get your work for this afternoon. The teacher is going to be away until after lunch unless we catch her before first period."

He ran to catch up to me. "Sure. I'll head there then meet you in class."

He left me alone at my locker. Seth and Quil were just down the hallway, and he stopped with the two of them before they came my way.

Embry's POV

I had looked down at my hands when she walked away from me just after she said about her mother's lies. I was going to corner Jake right now and he better tell me what the letter said.

I made a quick stop by my teacher's office. She had left a few pages of stuff there for me before allowing me to head to Jake's locker.

"Okay, so what did it say?" I asked when he got close enough to hear my whisper.

His eyes met mine. "A lot of stuff. Honestly, nothing good."

I nudge my head towards the doors. "We need to chat." I walked for the doors him just right behind me. "Sam only one on patrol right now?"

He nodded. "Ya, he took this morning by himself. Embry, what happened this morning with Charlie that you need to talk to both of us?"

I just shook his hand away from my shoulder walking for the woods. "Get Sam over here." I was shaking bad enough that if I was to shift right now, I don't know if I could actually manage to shift back human.

Jake stripped and shifted, seconds later he was back human and walking towards me. "Sam will be here in a few minutes."

I leaned up against a tree taking a few calming breaths. When Sam arrived, he looked unimpressed. "I know you don't want to hear this. But Charlie knows something about her parents. I don't know what it is but it was enough this morning to make her start crying on the walk to school."

Jake looked at me. "What did she say? And what were the two of you even talking about her parents about?"

I just shrugged. "She basically said that the letter was probably just another lie from her mom." I looked back towards the school. "I was trying to get her off of the topic we were discussing so I made a comment about the letter and that was her reply."

Sam glanced at me. "If you aren't in class with her, she is going to come looking for both of you. But from what you just said it sounds like she doesn't want to even read the letter."

Jake shook his head. "I wouldn't advice us letting either of them read the letter, at least not until we know the full story behind it."

"I know she found something so whatever it is I am saying double check everything before you start to talk to her."

Jake glanced down at his phone for a second. He showed it to Sam before turning to me. "You need to get to class."

I shook my head. "What did the message say?"

Jake huffed. "Nessie has some information for me from Jasper. I am supposed to go over after their school day is done to talk to him. He caught me last night to be able to talk about if he knew anything about the curse."

Sam smiled. "I promised that we would all be working on this, we are meeting up with my father and Jake's father this afternoon to discuss something that the letter said. But thanks for the warning. We will double or triple check everything before telling it to Charlie."

I gasped, Sam and his father hadn't spoken in years. At one point there was a split there and it had never been mended. "Thanks. I will let her know that you are checking everything."

They both nodded as Jake, and I headed back to the school. "Don't worry, everything is going to be fine. But we do have a serious assignment on Friday in gym remember, Charlie wasn't there on Tuesday, so she doesn't know about it. Please be gentle with her tonight."

I laughed. "Oh, you destroy all of my fun. Don't you want to have me on your brain again for another few days?"

He just groaned as we made it to the door and headed back inside. When I got to the class the teacher wasn't impressed that I was late, but I just shrugged Sam would protect me for this if I needed him to. Grabbing a piece of paper I wrote a quick note to Charlie. Sam knows about this morning. He and Jake will double check everything before they let you read the letter. I don't want you hurt like you were the other year with the assignment in history. I passed it to her with a smile.

When she read it, she smiled back to me and nodded her head writing below where I had written. Thanks, you managed to get the stuff from your Human Studies class?

I nodded to her when I seen what she had put on the paper. I patted my bag winking at her.

The rest of class passed seem less.

Functions was next and I was actually going to enjoy that. All of the girls who liked to pick on Charlie didn't take the class. Part way through class I could see Charlie starting to get happy about the fact that after this we pretty much got to leave the school.

"Oh, I cleared it with Sam and Emily that we could swing by there for some lunch, but we had to be gone by the start of our lunch time."

She just nodded and continued to work on the sheet we had been given at the start of class today. This would be homework for tonight but knowing this girl she would have it almost all done before we left the school.

"Oh, the other day when I was talking to Birkoff he said something about being invited next door for a dinner on Sunday night with Owen, Alex, Nikita, Mikey, and John. He didn't know if Leah was going to be invited but he said for sure I was invited to this."

She just nodded as we made our way to each other's lockers. "I know."

I scratched my head. "Okay, what is going on? Normally us eating dinner would be a good thing."

"It is just that I don't know what they picked up for dinner. We didn't get anything when we were out shopping. Plus, I would have preferred to have the dinner on Saturday instead of Sunday cause it means giving up some of our time."

I nodded. "Well maybe we need to ask if that is a possibility?"

She just glanced up at me. "I'm pretty sure Birkoff has something else planned for Saturday night." She just rolled her eyes grabbing one of her books from her locker and we started to walk to the classroom.

Birkoff was there at the front, and he waved us over. "I have your assignment marked. 98% on it, good job guys. We are going to do attendance then you both can head out."

When class started, we took our seats beside each other. After the usual running through what we were doing in class today and that the assignments were due at the start of class on Monday. He sent everyone off to their computers to work, waving bye to Charlie and me.

Sam's POV

I paced the house glancing at my clock. Charlie and Embry had just left saying they were off to her house to do something. I was still having a hard time believing that our two parents had approved the killing of one of the children.

Jake arrived walking into the kitchen grabbing a sandwich from what was left on the table. "Embry and Charlie?" He asked.

I nodded. "They have taken off to her house for the afternoon. Embry is almost done his Human Science work for the day, so I don't know what they are going to get up to for the rest of the afternoon."

He shrugged. "Knowing Charlie, she is probably done most of her psychology work done for the week and she will help Embry as they finish their history work."

I smiled. "She is bond to get all her schoolwork done isn't she. Part of me hopes that her brother was the same way." I ground my teeth thinking about how horribly that conversation was going to go over tonight when Leah joined me over at the house. I had sent a message to Nikita explaining that with the issues that had been happening that we needed to have a meeting tonight after she was home from work.

Jake looked at me. "Still having issues with John and his schoolwork?"

I nodded. "They are also still having issues at mealtime with the lack of discussing things about the day and whatnot." I ran my hands through my hair. "At least with Charlie the only one she isn't speaking to that much is Sue."

We laughed as the two vehicles pulled into the lane. "You ready for this?" Jake asked looking down at my hands they were slightly trembling.

I nodded. "This is for Charlie and Embry." I breathed out just repeating that over and over again in my head.

Jake pushed me towards the kitchen for a second before going to get the door for us. I was slightly annoyed with him but he knew that if I got mad enough to shift I could do some serious damage and just the topic we were going to discuss was enough to send me over the edge.

Old Quil came into the kitchen after a minute. "You found the letters?" He asked calmly.

I shook my head. "Not exactly. Charlie found a letter hidden in a book she used to ask her mom to read to her when she was young. Slightly long story about what happened there but we got to read the story and now we have some questions about what the letter says and why we were never told about any of this."

He nodded. "There were some situations I wasn't a part of. But I am sure Billy and Joshua will be able to answer any questions you have."

He was calming which made me really wonder if he was Embry's father too. That kid could calm just about anyone when it came to certain situations. Shaking my head for a second, I put the mystery of that on the back burner. Walking over to the sink I splash water on my face before drying it and walking back into the living room.

Jacob has them both sitting beside each other and Old Quil has joined them.

"So, we got to read the letter that Charlie's mom left her, and I must admit there were quite a few surprises in it."

Billy went to open his mouth, but my father stopped him. Meeting my eyes before turning to Old Quil and shaking his head at Billy.

"You know something." Jake was on his feet, shaking almost bad enough to phase.

"Jake, this is for both of them we have to keep our cool."

Old Quil looked at us. "Both of them. Who do you mean, Charlie and Johnathan or Charlie and whoever has imprinted on her."

Jake just shook his head. "Explain what you know." His eyes had turned to a molten gold-brown of his wolf as he embraced what he was.

I joined him allowing the alpha power that I possessed to join up with his. True none of them were wolves but they did have the jeans running through their system.

"Fine, we will explain everything. But you might not like it."

"Johnathan isn't actually the twin brother of Charlie. They technically aren't even related to each other as far as we know. Charlie's mother and the rest of her family were killed by this curse that will end a line of vampires if it is broken. The lady acting like her mother is really Johnathan's mother."

Jake glanced around the room. "Were their any records of this anywhere?"

Old Quil lowered his head. "Unfortunately, the city records in Forks had to be faked we suspect that the real ones might be out there somewhere but no clue where."

I shook my head. "The letter said that the council approved of her mother killing her twin brother."

Billy nodded. "It was a fail safe that we put into there. If she ever found the letter, we knew she would come after the council if she did end up reading it. We hoped that we could figure out a way when that happened to call out whatever was inside her and instinct would take over."

I stood there looking at them. "So will Johnathan be one of us? Is he part of a bloodline?"

Billy nodded. "He is part of a bloodline, so yes if circumstances are right, he will be a part of this pack."

Jake nodded. "So what do you know about the curse, and how do we break it?"

Both Billy and Old Quil shrugged before turning to my father with pleading eyes.

"First you have to understand that she is a moon child in more ways than you might think. Her shifts will at first be uncontrollable during the night of a full moon. The same myths we read about in stories will be true for her. As to what form she will take that will all depend upon her first time, and the reason why she does shift. There is a legend hidden in the county records in Forks that explains it."

My eyes met Jake's, and I knew we were thinking the same thing. "Charlie may have found that. She may have found out everything that was stored at the records in Forks."

My father looked at me. "What did she find out?"

We both shrugged. "We don't know. Honestly, we only found out about her finding out something last night."

Old Quil pulled my father back to his chair before looking at Jake. "How did you find out that she had found something?"

Jake looked at him. "A member of the pack confirmed that she found something but stated they didn't know what she had found. Claimed the project wasn't even handed in, in fact it was apparently shredded right in front of the teacher in the class."

My father looked at him. "One of the pack members, huh? Well maybe we should be chatting with them since they obviously know more about the situation than you two do." He just shook his head walking for the door.

"I know you think this is helpful but walking away and only giving us half truths won't help anyone." Jake snarled out at him. "You once took an oath to look after this land and its people. I am asking you no I'm holding you to that oath. Tell us everything you know."

He turned walking back to the chair and sitting down. "Fine. Charlie was brought to the council by Harry Clearwater. He had found her on one of his hunting trips in a cabin with her mother and another child about the same age only the mother was dying. He said she recognized him and explained that they were friends of friends of the Cullens or some of that group. That the twins had been cursed and after centuries of trying they finally had a strong enough bloodline in Charlie that she would survive." He took a breath looking at the other members. "Andrew was just about the marry and his bride was pregnant, we figured if they were to have twins no one would suspect a thing. Andrew agreed that he would raise the baby as his own but made us promise on the eve of her 16th birthday she would be told the truth of all of this."

I breathed out. "So, who was supposed to tell her about this?"

Old Quill shook his head. "That is the thing. He said he had a failsafe in place in case something was to ever happen to him. He had looked into the cabin and then burned it to the ground after he had taken the necessary things out of it. We have looked everywhere for the answers but found nothing. We don't know about what it could be that he has in place or where to even look. But he was able to find out more than any of us know."

I thought back remembering Andrew. He was always closer to Charlie than the was his own son. The connection between those two was always hard to explain. "Was Johnathan actually Andrew's son?"

Each of them just shook their heads. "We suspect that it might be one of mine." My father got up turned and walked out of the house at that point. Leaving me to swallow the shock of this.
