"Mori, we are having our first club meeting today! Are you excited?" Kai grinned.
"Sure I am. We might be able to see Kiyoshi's deck, too."
"He still hasn't arrived yet. Hmm...if that's usual, he should be already waiting for me on his seat..."
"He's never late, right?" Morihito wondered.
Dong, Dong–
As the bell rang, two boys looked out to the windows and gazed at the school doors closing.
"The bell is ringing!" Morihito pointed.
"Nooooo wayyy!!" Kai exclaimed.
"Is Kiyoshi okay...?" Morihito was worried.
Out of a sudden, Kai burst out laughing arrogantly.
"FUHAAHAHAHA!!"
"Whaa–?"
"That Kiyoshi, he broke his record! The legend of 'Zero Late Record' has fallen!"
"Legend of Zero Late Record...?"
"You know what? in the old days, he kept jeering at me as a latecomer!"
"I don't think Kiyoshi would do that..."
Right after, someone slammed the classroom's door and the whole class ceased their chatter.
"Who's that?" The boys turned their eyes to the entrance.
"Huff...huff..." He panted.
"Oh, man...I thought I would beat him..." Kai spoke frustratingly.
"You okay?" Morihito asked the gold orange-haired boy.
"No worries..." He calmed his breath. "I need a moment, I will be right back." He smiled with eyes closed.
"Oh...okay."
Once Kiyoshi was in the corridors, he glared at Easton. In the deep of his eyes, flames of fury fueled ferociously.
"I didn't think it will turn out this way! Nobody did right?" Easton replied worryingly.
"That's not an excuse for your mistakes. Or should I remind you of what you have done?"
"Well, well, I can explain!" He said tremblingly.

Moments ago, a pillar of soft light shone into a bedroom. Soon after, some music started playing from a phone. A boy climbed up his bed, turned it off and covered himself with a bedcover instantly.
A new day starts now.
But first, an annoying figure I have to deal with before I can continue my tasks.
"Lord Kiyoshi, look at what I prepared for you on such a beautiful morning!" Easton bounced into the room cheerfully.
"Still sleeping? It is not good to oversleep!"
He approached Kiyoshi's bed with sneaky and steady steps. Then flipped over Kiyoshi's bedcover.
Now!
"Huh?!"
In an abrupt moment, Kiyoshi coated Easton with the bedcover, grabbed the clothes within seconds, escaped the room swiftly and shut the door promptly.
Great, now I have saved myself for at least fifteen seconds.
As I calculated, there are more than a hundred ways to pretend that you are sleeping.
With variations, it is possible to execute it almost every day.

"Lord Kiyoshi, why do you abandon me?!"
The real troubles begin now.
Easton yelled and ran in no tears. As the bedcover hovered, seven lights of colours exploded underneath and the wind almost blow away the door.

Here it comes.
I must catch the right timing.
He walked the stairs as if he was rolling downwards. A voice cried behind him. "Please don't leave me!!"
Not this time! He cried from his heart.
He looked back down and stared at the doorstep with lights shining through the closed windows. He fastened his steps. But it didn't take long for him to realize he was in the same spot - the staircase was moving, like an elevator.
The stairs...! I have to find a way to get out of this.
He climbed on the handle, slid down and ran out of the door. Easton stared at him with wide eyes.
"No, wait!" He yelled.
Outside the streets, a running Kiyoshi caught the nearest bus, settled down, and pulled a sandwich into his mouth with a bottle of hot tea. While smoke gathered at his house, a flying creature approached.
"Next station: Chō Tokyo Train Station." The bus system is called.
"Great...I also have time to save some of my breath." Kiyoshi noted.
He turned his head into the windows and smiled. Something came to his sight, and he swiftly headed back and followed the passengers down the bus. The creature's face hit perfectly and mopped on the bus windows.
The bus stop should be just next to the campus.
But due to this annoying being...I have extra work to do.
He glanced at the sneaky Easton hiding behind the streetlights and moved forward one by one.
Our school, Aibo Academy, is located in Chō Tokyo's 7th block, near the train station. After the long elevator, the academy will come into sight.
But here's the major problem, besides the escalator, there is a distance between the junior high school campus.
There are lots of chances that he can do tricks on me at that time...
He reached the train platform and checked on the time and the train's arrival time. But it seems everyone's eyes were there before him.
"Did you just see that?!" A woman spoke in the crowd.
"The screen is flickering...and all the arriving time has changed?" Another said.
Kiyoshi sighed. "He better not cause any trouble to others."
He took out his phone, but it won't go on.
...this must be his doing. To mess with my sense of time.
But that won't work, ever since I woke up, I have already been counting on every second. There is no way he can...
All of a sudden, Kiyoshi held his breath, eyes stared, and clenched his fists tightly.
No. There is one way.
His magic can make anything he desires.
So it includes me, too.
The night before, I adjusted the clock, so he couldn't tell the time - only me. I set the time much earlier. He will know by just reading my mind, but he will never know how much time I have modified. Still, I can't rely on this method too much.
In today's sunlight, the shadows of the window corners aren't similar to yesterday's.
Vision confusion, tricking the target into believing the shades.
But this makes no sense, why would he make me believe I am late?
If another type of magic has applied to me, and this is the reality...
There is no doubt that I am running out of time.
I am going to be late for school today.
His sweat fell along his face, dripping from his fists, gazing into the air, heartbeats pumping strongly.
The train arrived, and the pressure blew at his hair softly. Each cart passed like lightning, deep rhythmic sounds made on the rails as the train came over.
"That's the correct explanation!" Easton appeared in front of him in a flash and cried joyfully. "Surprise?"
Kiyoshi looked back into a dark face with fully opened eyes. Easton flew backwards promptly.
"Oh! Don't scare me!"
Kiyoshi stepped onto the train and the gates closed promptly. Easton watched the train go away in his sight.
"Lord Kiyoshi is so rude to me..." His tears fell from corners, shrank into invisibility and chased the train nevertheless.
"Next station, Aibo Academy..."
The system notified. Kiyoshi stared at the train gate with dead eyes and took a sigh.
This won't be an easy task.
But will I make it?
He rushed out of the train station, with a flying creature following behind that can't be seen by anyone but him. He tapped the card at the speed of light and stepped up the stairs as if he was walking downwards.
Easton slowly approached and gathered a mysterious force in his hands, discharging it on Kiyoshi. The magic melted on his skin without anyone's notice, and he quickly passed through the crowd of students. Even though he dashed and pushed someone else slightly in an accident, it seems nobody saw him running around.
Just like usual, the spell was cast, to prevent anyone from disturbing his hunt.
Easton continued his chase, a sparkling light generated in his fingertips, more unstable as the beams collected from thin air, eventually charging on Kiyoshi like an arrow. Kiyoshi evaded it after swinging his head left rapidly. Easton sighed frustratingly behind.
The same trick won't work twice.
You will not succeed this time either.
Kiyoshi ran straight up the long elevator. He arrived on a flat platform on top of the mountain. He panted and did not slow down his steps despite his legs aching.
The first section was completed. I am approaching the campus. Just a few more steps left.
My stamina is going lower. But once I stop nearby, it will be all game over.
He has an advantage by flying above me. What an annoying drone.
Easton did not cease to use his magic - patches of flowers in Kiyoshi's trail, moving earth and cracks showed up on the floor. Even a giant flame phoenix fanned its wings and spit out blazes. Kiyoshi ran left and right, his eyes constantly looking for Easton's moves and planning for his next strategy.
I hate doing this again and again. It is not ever going to end.
Does he think toying with his victims is a fun thing to do?!
When will he stop his unexplainable behaviours each morning?!
At the front, two guards pulled the lever of the iron gate.
Just a little more, I can see the entrance.
I must catch up before it closes.
Ten, eight, six meters...I can make it!
"Hm? What is it?" The guard noticed when the wind hit his face.
"As if someone passed through us."
"I don't see anyone..."

"See? You arrived on time! That's nothing to worry about." Easton explained with a cheerful smile.
"That's the issue I am concerned about." Kiyoshi glared deeply, and Easton shivered harder. "You should know when you stop when you are messing with someone."
His face went closer to Easton. "I am afraid I am going to abandon you today. You should already know what I have been browsing recently, right?"
"'Abandon'?! No, you mustn't!"
"Then stop your meaningless actions, there is no other way."
"Okay, okay! I won't do it ever again!" Easton yelled out.
"You promise?"
"I promise! Just under one condition..."
"What condition?"
"Don't kill after I say so, okay?!"
"Probably." Kiyoshi gazed.
Condition? He is trying to make a deal, I see.
Kiyoshi stared, his eyes fixed on Easton, widened when he said those words.
"Defeat Isamu Kai."
The air seemed empty as if time was frozen, everything stopped moving.
Huh?
"What? You can't do it? Welp. I know, because he is your greatest..."
Kiyoshi clenched his fists and gulped.
"I will do it."
"That was a fast answer." Easton giggled.
"I just have to defeat him, right?" His gazes were fixed.
"Correct, Lord Kiyoshi."
"And you do know who you need to beat him..." He continued with a smirk.
"Fine." Kiyoshi sighed. Easton cheered and flew high.
He added. "If I lose I will just put you in the Buddy monster nursery." And Easton's chin and eyes fell off.
"Nur-nur-nursery?!"
Today is the club's first meeting. The application was approved, unexpectedly. We only passed the minimum requirement.
Nevertheless, it is my chance to accomplish this objective.
This is the first fight I am fighting with my buddy monster...
"First battle with lord Kiyoshi, it is going to be awesome!" Easton shouted excitedly.
Hopefully, it won't end badly as I expect...
What does he mean that "the fight will end badly"?! Easton screamed in his head.
Defeating Kai...
"Kiyoshi?"
"Mori? Why are you here?" Kiyoshi faced back, appearing to be slightly startled.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you two. Kai ran into my classroom. He was worried that you didn't return for a while, the class had already started."
"Did you hear us?"
"What? Did I miss something?"
"Oh, that was nothing..." Kiyoshi giggled with his grinning eyes.
"Well, see you at the club after school!"
"Oh, okay." Morihito blinked his eyes in confusion.
Kiyoshi is acting a bit weird today, or is it just me?
As the school bell rang again, the teacher dismissed the class and students began to pack up their things.
"Class ended! Weeeee–" Kai shouted and rushed into the corridors.
"Kai, wait, you forgot your school bag!" Morihito followed while Kai ignored him.
He's extra-energetic today...Morihito said to himself.
"Hurry! Kiyoshi is already there an hour ago! How did he do everything so quickly?" Kai raised his upper lips and murmured.
"I mean, there is still plenty of time..."
Meanwhile, in front of the school's Buddyfight arena, Kiyoshi flipped the cards in his deck one by one. His eyes read the details carefully before closing the deck case. Easton flew around him and hummed in melodies.
This should be it. But will this be enough to defeat him?
Hah, Kai is always unpredictable.
He then heard the heavy steps outside, followed by the slam of the door.
"Huff...huff, arrived!" The red-haired boy yelled, wiping out his sweat and revealing the joy on his face.
"There he is." Kiyoshi smiled.
"Kenji and Makoto weren't able to come today, so only three of us..." Morihito panted as he explained.
"That's a shame," Kiyoshi said.
"You two, don't just stand here, let's go in!" Kai yelled, grabbing both Kiyoshi and Morihito into the stadium.
Kai and Kiyoshi entered the stage promptly. While Morihito stayed in the auditorium. Xander appeared out of his deck and surprised him, both putting on warm smiles.
A UFO teleported into the area. An enthusiastic girl opened the gate at its top and grabbed a microphone.
"Warp successful! Whenever there are Buddyfights, you'll find me, Ion Nanana! Today we have two fighters..."
"That surely sounds embarrassing every time we were introduced." Kiyoshi chuckled.
"What's the matter? I am fine with that." Kai poured out laughter.
"Alright, are you two ready?" Ion urged. Kiyoshi giggled, raising his hand as he received the message.
"Can't let others wait for too long. I am going all in, Kai."
"Do your best!"
"It's time to luminize your deck!" Ion announced.
"Let this burn into your heart! Luminize! Crimson Fighters!!" Kai exclaimed. A deck of cards raised from flames in the deck zone.
Kiyoshi stared at the field with a calm smile, a soft shimmer gathered below his hand. "Knowledge is magic, the key to life, beginning of all. Grant me wisdom, luminize, Tome of Mythics."
"Dragon World!" Two said in sync. "Magic World."
"My greatest Buddy, Blast!"
"Deity of Magic, Easton."
The host spoke. "First turn goes to Kiyoshi!"

"Man, there must be something good in its hand!" Kai said to himself.

He turned to Kiyoshi and waited for his approval. Both agreed, Albus took out a grimoire and released the accumulated mana into the air, facing Kai.

"Too soon. I cast, Unbreakable Seal, and I return Blast to hand." Kiyoshi smiled.
"Eh?" Blast couldn't react before the spell shone in a pillar and teleported him away.
"Oh c'mon! I thought I was gonna win in the first turn!" Kai exclaimed.
"That was unexpected, Kiyoshi returned the Buddy monster before it could ever attack!" Ion explained.
"Well then, Obsidian Dragon, go attack Albus!"
The beast murmured deeply and growled, overheating magma falling as its mouth opened, pouring out a line of lava like a volcano, melting its opponent into ashes despite Albus casting a barrier between.

A white armoured dragon descended from the light of warmth, wings of angels, and opened its eyes little by little.

Another card was placed into the spell when it was set, can that be... Morihito stared.

The creature glanced elegantly and grabbed its right fist. A rod of light extended from the palm, forming a solid thin sword. Its fingers shut and mopped on the blade's surface, gleamings arose with wordings. Kai watched him raising its sword, shining brighter and intenser.
"It is going to land an attack!" Kai shouted.
The sword was about to hit the Obsidian Dragon. Kai countered it with a crimson shield in his hand. Flames splashed on Kiyoshi thus blocking his arm.
"Kai activated the Imperial Flame Dragon Shield! Kiyoshi's left field is being destroyed!" Ion spoke.

The sword duplicated itself into numerous luminous blades, raining it on Kai's field. Kai yelled in confusion as the dragon did. Before he reacted, a blade cut through his waist.
"AH!!!"
It can penetrate?! Kai wondered.

Kiyoshi curved his lips softly, a calm sight at his field.
"Easton, transfer mana to Endora."
"That was such a long wait, lord Kiyoshi!" The voice said playfully.
"Easton? He is not even on the field!" Kai couldn't believe what he just heard.
"Exactly, this is how it works." Kiyoshi explained.
"But where?" Kai searched around.
Kiyoshi giggled. "He can be anywhere."
It doesn't have to be the attacker.
Having sufficient strength, eliminating enemies on sight. Power is their advantage.
However, without a full view of the battlefield, it is easy to get backstabbed by the enemies.
Therefore, the troops need a wise plan and a knowledgeable leader.
Indeed, what the most important is...
"The commander lying at the backmost." Both commented.

The pink octopus squeezed out of the ufo and shouted. "That makes no sense, chu!"
"Lord Easton, I will use your strength for the greatest." Endora kneeled and closed its eyes. It absorbed all the mana in the surrounding area. Overflowing energy covered the white dragon and its skin.
"For this turn, Endora gets a triple attack and critical increases by one." Kiyoshi explained.
"Face the judgment of light!" Swords rained on Kai like arrows. He barely stood and gasped continuously after.
"Don't forget about me!" Easton teleported himself from the spell circle and pulled out his wand. Nothing happened at first, the tip of the wand hit Kai's face. He laughed hard until flames started running out from it.
"Uwahhhh!!" Kai screamed.
"Using fire against fire!" Easton giggled.

Kiyoshi is going to use full force on Kai, isn't it... Morihito thought. While Xander did a soft yawn and murmured about ramen.
"Morihito, Xander!" Makoto waved.

"Ahm..." The tiny bear nodded softly and dragged her pink princess dress. "Can I get this off now?"
Kenji exclaimed. "What?! I did not say that!"
"Well, thanks for coming!" Morihito smiled with his eyes.
"I didn't say that...!" Kenji muttered with a red face. Makoto put her hand on his mouth and dragged him away.
Meanwhile, back on the stage, Kai made his moves.

"Alright, Blast, it's time for..."
"Wait, Kai, do you mind talking to me before that?" Blast spoke calmly with his deep voice.
"What's wrong?"
"It is about cards' abilities, have you wondered what 'Act' and 'Counter' are?"
"Hmm...I remember that 'Act' can only be used in the main phase. 'Counter' can be used almost anytime..." Kai rubbed his chin.
"How about two combined?" Blast asked warmly.
"Both combined? Uh...main phase, can be used anytime..."
"Can it be used in any main phase?!"
"Exactly. Card abilities with 'Act' and 'Counter' can be used during either player's turn on any phase. Therefore, once on each player's turn."
"What?! On each player's turn?! I never knew that!!" Kai yelled out his surprise with wide eyes.
"I think it would be better if it is figured out by yourself." Blast smiled.
"Ah man come on!" Kai placed his hands on his head.
"For now...we need to defeat the dragon in his centre." Blast grinned as he wielded his blade in right.
"Of course! Blast, use Flame Burst on Endora, then link attack with Flame Dragoner!"
"Easton, move back to formation!" Kiyoshi hastened his words.
"Got it!" Easton spoke playfully and teleported himself through a magic gate.
Blast pulled out a sphere of fire in his hand, throwing it at Endora. It exploded as it touched its skin.
In the gushing blazes, Flame Dragoner attempted to jab Endora, but the polearms fell on its sword. Blast landed his burning blade meanwhile while being distracted, nevertheless, Endora endured their attacks.
"No damage...?" Kai stared at Endora as the flames devoured it and walked out of it with glowing eyes.
"When Easton is put into another card soul, all cards on my field gain 10000 power and 5000 defence."

Kai screamed as the staff glowed and charged a beam of mana at him.

"Kai used Blast's ability "Flame Burst"! Is Endora going to be destroyed before it can attack?" Ion said.
As Blast's fists glowed gradually, flames emitted and burned more fiercely. Eventually, it threw at Endora and exploded at once, leaving smoke on Kiyoshi's field. As they slowly faded, Kai saw something standing in the mist.
"Hm?"
A shiny blade cut through the obscure clouds and revealed itself in the centre.
"It is not being damaged...?!" Kai widened his eyes with sweat on his face. The audience gasped along with Ion.
"How unexpected! Flame Burst did nothing on Endora, no damage, zero damage!"
"Staff of Divinity allows all monsters on my field to be not destroyed or leave the field."
"Now I am really out of ideas..." Kai moaned.
"Don't worry, we will do better next time." Blast patted his shoulders.
"I will surely win next time then. And we will become much stronger in return!" Kai clenched his fists tightly.
"I say so too." Blast grinned warmly.
"Well then!" Kai smiled with his teeth on.
"Endora, attack Flame Dragon!" Kiyoshi commanded.
"As you wish." The dragon replied firmly. Kai bit his teeth.
Endora raised its charged sword in gleams, fixed eyes looked down on Kai's centre, slashed along with tiles falling apart.
"Cast, Imperial Flame Dragon Shield!" The sword landed on the barrier as Kai cast the spell.

I finally won against him, after so many defeats, at last!
My heart was racing when I landed the final attack...
The joy...I can't describe it...
Kiyoshi's eyes were gleaming, as if wearing sunshine on his face.
"Kiyoshi!" Kai yelled when he jumped between platforms and landed on Kiyoshi's side.
"That was such a brilliant battle! I didn't see that coming in the last turn!" He chuckled. "You must have put a lot of effort into building your new deck."
Kiyoshi smiled slightly shyly. "Just like you already know it all."
"Welp, I will need to reconstruct my deck as soon as possible, then we will battle again!"
"Of course." Kiyoshi nodded.
"Maybe a friendly battle with me and Xander?" Morihito asked, Xander bounced behind.
"Oh, oh, count me in too!" Makoto raised her hand vigorously, and Kenji followed, despite looking elsewhere. Kiyoshi grinned as he saw everyone coming.
This is just like when we were overseas.
But this is more joyful indeed.
Easton, did he see my intention of defeating Kai? And thus...trying to help me, even in a wild way. It seems he loves meddling in other people's business. Little troublesome, I see. But it is not a bad thing for now.
"You had me troubled for so long." He spoke in his mind.
"Next time if you do the same I will never forgive you."

Easton sang in harmony as he deactivated his invisibility magic and reappeared near Kiyoshi.
Meanwhile, a card shone prismatically inside Kiyoshi's deck, no one noticed nevertheless.

Hey, readers. You may have noticed I went missing in the past few months, as the last update was in September 2022.
So what's the issue? Why was the writer's upload delayed for more than four months?
I need to be honest with you all, or...
Let's break that optimistic mood here.
For this work, I spent a lot, a lot of time on this piece. I really hope my fiction will be updated frequently.
I can't really keep this up all the time.
Like what?
In reality, I am already stressed out from everything.
I write fiction mostly on the train, travelling back and from school.
Other than that, it is before I sleep. I always wake up with my phone slapping on my face once I fall asleep.
Writing this chapter was completely not joyful, but rather annoying, tiring and suffering. I forced myself into writing this chapter as I really want to process further of the story.
The fight I created between Kai and Kiyoshi was stressful enough to throw my head under the guillotine and get chopped off.
I made and revised the cards I made for Kiyoshi. That was not easy, but it is not the problem.
The point is how tiring it is to make the battle. Calculating abilities precisely, cards to use, decisions by characters, shuffle decks, and characters' statistics like life points, cards and things in the drop zone in the field, almost perfectly.
I use numbers to represent the cards and get a separate document just to get things right, to get the fight logical and fair, not happy school boys fighting against each other with anime luck.
I know a lot of other card fiction never do that, and some do, just writing whatever the fight will be. Compared to writers who calculate fights seriously, it seems pretty unfair.
I mean I can just minimize the content. Openings and endings? I can just find one on Youtube. Fights and content? I can just stop the calculation. Previews and plot planning? Perhaps I don't even need it. Cause people don't care, right?
Speaking of this category, this is what gets me out of character. I DON'T mean to offend other writers, I appreciate their efforts or communities but hear me out, I think this is a wide issue among all fanfiction, not just this fandom. Writers with real efforts will never get what they should deserve, I mean like less likely. But what about the ones who just "copy and paste" what was in the original series? Meaningless plot and character lines? Those which are completely out of context? (Well, let's exclude porns fictions (smut) because we all know why they get views.) How about those who spent weeks, months, or even years? What do they get? Only a few hundred views? And the ones who write dumbass stuff get freaking ten thousand or even a hundred thousand? What? And WHY?
I know this is all bullsh*t. And this is what I learnt from here - "The number of views never equals the worth of the fiction". Let me say it again, THE NUMBER OF VIEWS DOES NOT EQUAL TO THE WORTH OF THE FICTION, AT ALL. GOD DAMN IT. HAHAHAHAHA AAAAAA–
It means, the types of writers who like putting lots of effort into fiction, will have to IGNORE the views of the audience, going through self-doubt day-to-day and continuing to write their own. Was it worth it? For me, yes. I want to complete this fiction, so badly, as if I have an obsession with this fanfiction. I already planned more than six seasons, SIX. So no one can stop me until I die, even the pain I carry along.
Writers, if you don't get views, it doesn't mean your work sucks. And if you do get views, then congrats, but it doesn't tell as if your work is better, unfortunately. It is all about the audience, whether the fandom is large or not, whether their taste or whatever weird algorithm of the sites.
I guess I am a little too emotional, I should stop. I don't mean to scare you all, this is just my stressful self and silly venting.
