Indren stood alone in front of the sparkling portal created in a metal frame, grabbing his tie which was blown by the wind from the portal's energy.
It worked as we planned. The portal is finished, and it functions perfectly.
But the time has not come.
He touched the overflowing energised gate again. The ignited portal vanished in a blink and the wind stopped.
"All shall be prepared." He gazed. "No mistakes are allowed this time."
Soon, we'll meet again, Origin of Creation.
In a grand office, the meeting room is filled with high-ranking officers from police departments in other prefectures. They gathered at a huge table, including Commissioner Tasuku and Commander Zanya.
"Good afternoon. I believe everyone heard the news of yesterday's incident." The highest administrator in the office greeted them.
The projector showed ruined streets with collapsed concrete, broken roads and shattered glass all over the place, everyone took note of what they saw.
"Seems the captured images from the news are not being exaggerated." One commented and held his chin.
"The threat of the dark and grey dragons shall not be underestimated."
"I agree. This incident needs to be taken seriously. If not, all of us will not survive." Another replied.
"Absolutely, the power of those two illegal monsters is enough to destroy Japan." The chief continued. "And that's why we are here today. Commissioner Tasuku and Commander Zanya, you were the ones responsible for the incident. Please explain the situation to us."
Tasuku bowed, grabbing the tablet tightly.
"Yesterday, the first emergence of extremely high levels of illegal monsters was at 8:23 pm. Citizens reported the abnormal appearance of the night sky turned reddish. Based on our findings, we believe the two scenarios are related, and the illegal monsters were the cause of the abnormalities. The high levels vanished at 8:27 pm."
"During the disappearance of the activity, we evacuated citizens to safe areas and deployed several teams in different zones. At 9:55 pm, the high readings of two illegal monsters emerged again, as well as the attack of the black and grey dragon. As the illegal monsters can teleport using portals, it is unknown when these monsters will reappear. We must stay alert to them in the future."
The other officers nodded as they agreed, some worried about how they would take measures.
"We will provide the best assistance we can. We must protect Japan from these threats." The president spoke.
As the officers' meeting ended, Tasuku waited for the room to empty, which he called Zanya.
"What's the matter, Commissioner Tasuku?"
"Would you like to stay for a while?"
"Sure, anything to help with?" Zanya gave him a gentle smile until Tasuku locked the room doors and turned to him. He looked nervous as if he was worried about something.
It is rare to see him being so tense. Zanya noticed.
"I hope you believe what I say in the following," Tasuku spoke, turning off devices in the meeting room.
"I am all my ears." Zanya stared into Tasuku's eyes.
"In the last incident on Golden Island, although things were finally settled at the end, I feel there is something off in the incident. It is not about the criminals, but the Buddy Police."
"The Buddy Police?" Zanya asked.
"Absolutely. The only ones who knew I was out of the office were no one but the staff. The criminals launched their attacks as if they observed when I was absent."
"But could it be a coincidence?"
"That wouldn't be the case. They timed perfectly and launched the attack that was needed. Simple calculations would not be successful."
"This is…strange. Do you think there is someone who leaks the information?"
"Yes, and it is in real time, which means it can be any of us."
"I am glad I am being trusted by you," Zanya said in a breath of relief.
"This is a critical issue, but we have no evidence to prove anything. Not to mention we have more difficult problems at hand, which is more urgent."
"The Black and Grey dragons…" Zanya murmured.
"Indeed. They came much faster than we can prepare for."
"What does that mean?" Zanya froze for a moment. "Are you telling me you already met them before? And the report in the meeting…"

"No, it is my pleasure to work together." Zanya laughed lightly. "We can solve the issue together. I strongly believe that."
"I feel relieved just hearing from you." Tasuku smiled, turning back the electronics and leaving the room. "I will see you soon."
The next day in Aibo Academy, the school bell rang and everyone was dismissed. A red-haired boy said in excitement.
"Finally! The end of the classes!"
Kai is as excited as always. Kiyoshi thought.
"Kai, Kiyoshi!" Morihito and Xander entered the classroom.
"Hey, you are all here! Today's battle is gonna be epic!" Kai said.
"Ahmph, you shouldn't forget your homework for tomorrow." A pair of red glowing eyes with a wicked smile sneak behind Kai and pat his shoulders.
"Yes…Miss…Miss Kuchinawa!" A trembling Kai said in fear. Kiyoshi giggled lightly.
"Have fun, kids!" Miss Kuchinawa waved as she walked out of the classroom.
"Puff…that got me," Kai said like his spirit out of his body and collapsed on the ground.
"I can help, don't worry Kai." Kiyoshi comforted him.
"Yeah! Let's just leave that afterwards!" Kai shouted with his body straight up. "Let's head to the club first! Let's go!"
He is just as energetic as always. Morihito grinned.
"Hey, did all of you hear of the news this week? The dragon-type monsters that attack the city! They are just terrifying!" Makoto commented. Kenji peeked and kept his eyes away from the crowd.
"You mean the Black and Grey Dragons incident that happened two days ago?"
"Absolutely! I have heard that they own the power to destroy Japan easily! If it wasn't another dragon stopping the attacks, the city would surely be in ruins." Makoto exclaimed.
"The incident led to numerous injuries but fortunately everyone was safe."
The dark dragon…could it be Aggravius? Its appearance captured in online videos is also similar. Morihito thought.
"Dragons? What dragons?" Kai rubbed his head. Everyone watched him silently.
"Kai, do you watch the news?" Kiyoshi did a facepalm. "Well, this is not the first day I met him."
"Anyways! Let's head to the club now! I can't wait!" Kai ran away before everyone reacted.
As they walked to the Buddyfight Club venue, they saw a notice for Buddyfight Club stuck to the door out of the classroom.
"Why is there a paper stick out of the door?" Kai noticed.
"The usage of this classroom will be reorganised and permitted to…drama club?" Morihito read.
"This can only mean one thing," Kiyoshi said.
A tall male in glasses walked nearby with his lines and lines of students in uniforms, blocking the way of Kai and his friends.
"All be quiet! The president is here!" One of the students yelled and all followed his lead, lining up at the sides.
"Who are these people?" Kai said in a sweat.
"Student Council, I think they come here for only one reason," Kiyoshi replied.
The male student in a neat long white jacket with a blue tie and golden lines walked straight at Kai and the others firmly.
"This person…wasn't he the one who approved our club?" Morihito spoke softly.
"I don't feel good about this guy," Xander said.
He stopped, and a student out of the group stood in front and announced loudly.
"I am here to notify you that your club will be disbanded by the end of this month! Your club performance was extremely poor and the Student Council have decided this club will be forever shut down and disbanded!"
The follower stood back into the crowd. The male fixed his glasses in a cold sight.
"What?! A disband?!" Kai yelled.
"How come? Don't we already have enough members?" Morihito worried.
"They probably noticed our club members did not grow in the last two months. This could be the reason."
"That is correct." The voice spoke firmly. "Your club was observed to be for private use instead of being a useful club that fits the majority of Aibo students. This is not valid in the terms of the permitted school club. Therefore, a shutdown to 'Buddyfight Club' is a must."
"We already tried to recruit members! Just look at the posters we made!" Kai shouted.
"Does it have any effect? We only see the results of our students as a whole, not selfish people. Your club does fit the school's standards that were established decades ago. And there is no exception." He faced Kai indifferently.
"Selfish, you say?" Kai said with a dark face. "I only created this club because I want everyone to have fun from Buddyfight. Not just my friends. I hope everyone can enjoy this game!"
"I don't see any point merely from your unconvincing words and nonsense." He said coldly and left the crowd.
"I can prove it to you," Kai said with confident eyes.
"There is nothing to prove about." He left with the other students. "I don't have any reason to waste my time on silly things."
"How about we make a bet? If I lose, the club is disbanded. If I win, the club will stay!" Kai shouted when he was leaving.
"I don't see I am benefiting from your bet. If you lose, you will be blacklisted in any activity related to Buddyfight. Even if you win…there is no such a case." He chuckled.
"There is no way you can win against me."
"You accept the deal, huh?" Kai asked with a grin.
He laughed slightly, staring at Kai. "It just so happens I am free today. I can play with monkeys for a while."
"Spread the news." He spoke to the followers and they nodded, leaving in order.
As the corridors became quiet again, everyone stared at Kai speechlessly.
"Kai, why would you accept that? He is trying to make you down!" Morihito was worried, he didn't know what to say to Kai anymore.
"What? He accepted it, didn't he?" Kai said.
"What a reckless fool…" Kiyoshi shook his head. "But this is just Kai's style."
"Now that you have accepted his challenge, we shall give our best, Kai." Blast appeared from Kai's pocket after the card form.
"That's right! We will show him what we are! Just wait!" Kai made his fist to fist. "We won't lose!"
"Kai is the hope for reviving the club," Morihito said.
"Yes, and if he wins, our club will get its free promotion. We are killing two birds with one stone." Kiyoshi commented.
"Let's do our best!" Kai said with a big confident smile.
Sometime later, in the student council president's room. The president lay down on his chair and took a glimpse of the drawer, pulling a photo frame out of it. There is another boy with him in the photo. He smiled, somehow showing a nostalgic face.
"You used to say the same thing as well."
Isamu Kai, huh? That's surprising to hear from another person's mouth.
He sighed, and a knocking was heard on the doors. A student greeted him politely.
"President, the announcement was made and the students are already settled down at the school's fighting stage."
"Well done."
He grabbed his white jacket and hurried his steps to the battle stage. In a blink, many students welcomed his appearance to the field. A pink octopus UFO and a purplish-haired girl in two ponytails squeezed her way out of it with a microphone.
"Whenever there are Buddyfights, you'll find me, Ion Nanana! Today's battle is going to be exciting! On the left side, we have a student from the eighth grade, Isamu Kai and his buddy Blast!"
Kai entered the spotlight in faith and waved at the audience. Blast unsheathed his sword in blazing flames.
"The right side is even more surprising! Please welcome our school's student council president - Toshihiro Shinji!"
As Shinji made his appearance, many cheered, and some girls were attracted by his look. Shinji adjusted his glasses calmly. There was a knight in white armour with detailed golden lines standing beside him, stabbing the broadsword in night colours on the stage. The dark blue sparking cape on his back was blown by a gentle wind. His appearance was unshown under the white silver helmet.
"'Shinji'? So that's his name huh." Kai grabbed his fists and exclaimed, "Bring it on!"
The students at the back discuss the fights.
"Who are you rooting for?"
"President Shinji, of course. He was a champion in the ABC Cup. Hmm…but I don't see him this often in recent years," One said.
"What? I guess the guy who named Kai has no chance of winning this battle…" The other said with a shocked face.
On stage, Kai and Shinji walked to their spots and were ready for a match.
"Let this burn into your heart! Luminize! Crimson Fighters!" Kai activated his deck on the virtual reality board.
"Assemble, protectors of night, blades of stars. Luminize, Stardust Paladins."
"Buddyfight! Time to raise the flag!" Ion announced.
"We fight for Dragon World!" Kai yelled, Blast smiled and stood near him in chibi form.
"Legend World," Shinji said calmly.
The crowd cheered, shouting excitedly at the fighters on the stage.
"First turn goes to Kai!" Ion said.
"We will show you who we really are, President Shinji," Kai spoke confidently and drew.

On the right is a tall warrior in golden and blue heavy armour, holding a long spear with tips coloured like the evening sky. A paladin with a huge shield guards Shinji's centre. The remaining one seemed shy, but grasping her scabbard.
"Stella, Karis, Tarek, attack him one by one."
They nodded, and the knights approached Kai with their refined weapons, enhanced in sparkling starlight. Stella did an upper slash on Kai's back as Karis' shield hit his chest.
"Gahh…" Kai blocked with his arms, seeing Tarek about to stab with his spear between small gaps.

"Isn't that the 'Star Doom'?! It will eliminate the opponent with the rain of starlight!" Another commented. "I only heard them from the others…"
Meanwhile, Morihito and the others noticed the noise from the crowd.
"Everyone seems to be talking on that card," Morihito said.
Kiyoshi answered. "Of course. It is an impact that instantly defeats any fighter once it is being activated."
"Instantly defeat the opponent? But how?"
"It deals damage more than the fighter's initial life," Kiyoshi explained.
"That can't be… an impact that deals more than 10 life points?" Morihito broke into a cold sweat.
Kai needs to defeat President Shinji before he activates his impact. Come on Kai, you can do this! Morihito grabbed his sweating fists.
Kai drew a card and smiled excitedly. "Let's do this! For the club, and for everyone!"

The armoured dragon threw the ignited polearms to the centre. But was disrupted by Tarek's lance, causing the attack to go off its path.
"What?!" Kai was shocked, Ion hurried to grab her microphone and commented.
"Flame Dragoner's attack was not able to hit Karis! How did that happen?"
"You cannot destroy my centre unless you destroy the other paladins" Shinji spoke coldly. "You should wish yourself to be more lucky."
"Oh well? But this is going to hit!" Kai smiled.
Blast cast his flames onto Shinji, causing him to burn. However, the fire seemed to grow weaker.
"Thanks to Blast, he can deal 2 damage directly without attacking the monsters!" Kai said, Blast watched carefully nevertheless.
"No, it doesn't seem to be that easy." Blast noticed.
As the flames were being put out, Shinji was seen to have something glowing on his skin.

"Flame Burst!" Blast cast his flames onto Shinji's centre with his blade. The fire devoured Karis and caused it to be destroyed.
Ion grabbed her microphone and explained. "President Shinji's centre is now wide open! However, due to Karis's effect, it goes to the gauge instead of the drop zone!"

His broadsword penetrated the flaming dragon's body and turned them into card pieces. Kai tightened his fists but released them after.

He adjusted his glasses, turning the card horizontally.

Shinji hopped off to the field and darted at Kai, hitting right and left into his waist with his gleaming blue longsword. Kai screamed dramatically after.

While falling, Kai stepped his left leg onto the stage and balanced himself with his weapon rapidly, munching his jaw.
"I can't lose here…for everyone who loves Buddyfight in this academy and my dream, to become the Buddyfight Champion!"
Shinji hopped backwards in a moment of shock, watching him without a word. Somehow a flash of memories flew into his mind.
"Wilhelm, attack Haruto!" Shinji turned his card horizontally on a paper game board.
"Aww, not again!" The other boy with orange hair shouted. The younger Shinji chuckled at his reactions.
"No, I am done yet. One more time, one more! This time I will win!" He yelled.
"You already said that in the last rounds…" Shinji said.
"Whatever! This time I will win! I know that! And one day I will become a Buddyfight Champion! Just you wait!"
"That is all in vain. You can't even defeat me." Shinji laughed lightly.
"Open the flag, Dungeon World! Hey, let's decide who to attack first!" He immediately turned the cards and yelled.
"I didn't even say I will play in this round…" Shinji did a facepalm.
"Hurry, hurry!" The boy laughed out loud. Shinji did a small grin.
"This is the last round okay?" Shinji did a small grin.
Although he keeps losing to me, he never gives up and continues to find a way to defeat me, even though he never wins once, until…
"I put nine gauge to the card's soul to activate Starlight Shower's ability," Shinji said calmly.
"Damn it…twelve gauges are easy as pie huh? But that's not the end yet! I activate Awakened Brave Equipment, Glory Seeker's ability. I put this card and the top card of my deck into the drop zone. If it is a spell, my life becomes 3 and I don't take any damage this turn!" The boy raised the card confidently and checked his deck.
"What?" Shinji looked at him in surprise.
"Oh! Here it is! It is 'Friends Connect'! A spell card!" The boy laughed. "It seems my luck is pretty strong today."
For the first time, someone is able to counter my impact.
"I attack with my right!" Haruto said while Shinji was still reacting to what just happened, looking at his hand cards.
He sighed. "I have no cards to counter."
"No cards to counter…that means you take 2 damage! I won…? I won!" Haruto jumped and danced around. "This is the best time of my life…"
"That was just your luck, you won't have it next time."
"What?! It is skills, pure skills!"
Shinji giggled as he saw Haruto. "Fine, let's do that another time soon, Haruto. You won't be that lucky this time."
"Oh yeah? Bring it on then!"
"Raise the flag!" Both said.
Those were our best moments, the most precious time, I hoped it would last forever.
That was how I told myself.
In a sealed room, Shinji stepped in front of a long table with candles and stacks of white flowers, gazing into emptiness speechlessly. The room was filled with rows and rows of people wearing full black.
Among them, the sobbing at the front end was the clearest.
"You said we will have another round, didn't you?" Shinji spoke weakly with his clenched fists and jaws. "You even said you will become a Champion."
"You are…such a great liar." Tears fell unconsciously from the corner of his eyes.
From the day I lost him, my urge to play Buddyfight faded into nothingness. I have absolutely no motivation for the game anymore. The game is no longer enjoyable for me, as I thought.
But…
TodayI met him. Deep inside, I know it is not him. But I accept his challenge nevertheless like something is being reignited in my heart.
The urge to play with 'you' once more.

"Ahhh, so bright! I can't open my eyes!" Kai exclaimed.
"What's…what's going on?!" Xander shouted.
One audience from the crowd screamed. "It appears! The Star Doom!"
"This is the 'Star Doom' they mention? What a dreadful impact..." Morihito stood up from the audience area, and then gazed at Kai, seeing his confident grin.
"Looks like Kai still has something up his sleeve," Kyoshi said as Morihito smiled.
"When there are twelve or more cards in Starlight Shower's soul, I can drop twelve cards from its soul and deal 12 damage to the opponent directly!" Shinji explained.
"What?! Twelve damage?!" Kai's eyes widened in shock.
"Cast, Starlight Shower!"
Everyone watched the stars transform into beams of light and flew towards Kai, raining numerous colours on him.
"An impact that deals twelve damage! Is this the end for Kai?" Ion shouted.
Looking back to Kai's side, the smoke covered his area and the crowd fell silent. As everyone thought this was the end, they heard the puffing noise inside.
"That was close…" Kai laughed while in quick breathing, holding a card in his hand.
"Kai is not someone to be underestimated." Morihito smiled gently.
"He blocked it?" Shinji's eyes broadened as he watched Kai standing on the field, his body covered in a flaming aura.
"What just happened?! Kai remained standing after Starlight Shower!" Ion shouted, and the crowd was astonished.

Blast summoned fire from his fist and enhanced his sword with it, slashing it at Shinji.

Blast yelled in glowing eyes as the flames carried on his sword, slashing the overflowing flames at Shinji, with a thought flashed in his mind before the flames completely devoured him.
Haruto, I…would like to try to play this again, not in the distant future.

He smiled as the flames landed and burned all his life points away.

Kai became stronger too…Morihito thought.
Kiyoshi smiled. "As expected. There is nothing to worry about."
Easton said. "Huh? Don't think I don't know anything, when Starlight Shower is activated, you—"
"Ouch, ouch, ouch—" Kiyoshi grabbed Easton, his tiny legs kicking in the air.
"Congrats Kai, now we can continue to run our club!" Makoto said.
"I was betting him to lose…" Kenji said it in a low volume.
"What did you say, you fatty?" A red-eyed Makoto glared at Kenji sharply, making him sweat heavily.
"I didn't say anything, Monketo." Kenji whistled.
"Huh?" The shadow of Makoto clothed Kenji completely.
"I wish you luck, Kenji…" Barnat turned into her card form and hid inside his deck.
"Hey! You said you would face her together! You traitor!" Kenji looked back at Makoto, murmuring. "Oh crap…"

A painful cry could be heard from Kenji's mouth. Morihito and friends gazed at the scene speechlessly. Meanwhile, a figure approached the group.
"Isamu Kai."
Kai turned his back to see Shinji standing with other student council members.
"I would like to keep my promise before our fight," Shinji said. "As a result, Buddyfight Club is reopened to all Aibo Academy students."
"Alright! Yeah!" Kai shouted excitedly.
"However, since the original venue is being reserved and agreed to be used by the Drama Club after our meeting with the school communities and principal, you may not use the venue for Buddyfight purposes."

"I haven't finished my words yet," Shinji said, catching Kai's attention.
"I am here to announce Buddyfight Club is now reorganised to Aibo Academy's battle stage! All club members may access the school's Buddyfight facilities and resources."

"That's some good news." Blast smiled.
"We earned that together, Blast!" Kai smiled.
"One more thing. Remember, insufficient growth in members and contribution to students will lead to a shutdown of the school club. Keep that in mind. That's all."
"No problem!" Kai cheered.
Shinji chuckled. "I wish to see you soon."
As Shinji was ready to leave, Kai asked.
"President Shinji, are you interested in our club? I am sure you will have a lot of fun!"
Shinji waited a few seconds for the answer and grinned warmly.
"Hmph, I may consider that."
The others watched him leaving with the student council members.
"What a day," Easton yawned.
"I heard there is a card pack coming out in Castle card shop, shall we check it out?" Morihito asked.
"Sure! I can't wait!" Kai said. "And we fight on the buddyfight stage too."
"Our class's quiz is tomorrow, I think we should study first." Kiyoshi reminded him.
"Awh man…I wanna another match so bad. But school is still more important. Alright, let's study and go to Castle tomorrow!" Kai yelled.
"Alright, then see you tomorrow, Kai!" Morihito waved at Kiyoshi and Kai, watching them enter the classroom.
"Can't wait to see them again," Morihito said softly.
"Best friends as always," Xander added.
"Xander, I want to head to Dragon World tonight."
"Hmm? Why?"
Morihito smiled. "Seeing Kai's battle with President Shinji, I want to become stronger, just like him."
