Middleton, CO
The Fenton Family arrived in Middleton, Colorado, at one-thirty in the afternoon, and checked in the Middleton Suite around two o'clock. Since everything was paid for by the kind Max Tennyson, the Fentons did not have to pay for the roundtrip ticket nor the stay at the three bedroom for the three days. Of course, they had to pay for their own food, but that wasn't a problem.
Jack managed to get a rental car for the family to use for the next three days and decided to drive his family around the area.
Jack and Maddie decided to dress casually, which was rare for their family.
Jack wore an orange collared shirt, showing off more of his impressively built physique despite being a wider man in his forties, black trousers, a chrome wristwatch, and black work shoes.
Maddie wore a pink shirt, green leggings, and red mary janes with a red purse resting on her left hip.
Jazz wore an aqua crop-top sweater, black leggings, and matching aqua slip-on flats with her headband, which was now black, having a little aqua blue bow.
Danny wore a black t-shirt under a thin white long-sleeved sweater, blue jeans, and red sneakers with white trimmings, reminiscent of his Freshman year clothes.
The family of four drove around the suburban town, looking at the sight of the peaceful area.
"Middleton. It's been a long time since we've been here," Maddie sighed with a smile, sitting in the passenger side of the car.
"Six years goes by pretty fast with busy hands like ours," Jack chimed, driving the vehicle. "But no matter how much time passes by, it always remains a quiet and serene little town."
Looking in the rearview mirror directly at her eldest child, Maddie said, "You know, Jazz, there are a few promising institutions here. One of them could have your name on it."
"...Tempting, but my eyes are already set on Princeton, Yale, and/or Stanford." Jazz reminded her mother. "I'll keep Middleton's school in mind."
The girl's eyes shifted to Danny, where she spotted him frowning when hearing her reply. Suddenly, she recalled the future version of her little brother's words.
-have you ever considered what graduating meant? Especially for Danny?
'...Does he still feel that way?' Jazz pondered, biting her lip in worry as her gaze lingered on the boy.
Maddie also paid close attention to Danny, noticing the lack of engagement in him. Instead, Danny peered out of the window, keeping his thoughts to himself while they passed a school called Middleton High.
"Danny, sweetie," Maddie said, getting the boy's attention. "Are you alright? You've been rather quiet since we left the hotel."
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine." Danny reassured his mother, noticing both of his parents' gaze. "...I'm just taking in the sights of the scenic route, that's all."
Sensing his father's stare from the rearview mirror, Danny averted his eyes back to the window. This didn't go unnoticed by Jack, who frowned at this.
'...What's the matter with Danno?' Jack pondered as he focused on the road. 'Well, our talk on Thursday wasn't exactly on the best of terms. The day before ended pretty raw. I guess we'll have to talk about this when we get back home.'
From the corner of her eye, Maddie spotted a local store and gasped.
"Hey, I know what can lift our spirits!" Maddie said with excitement in her eyes. "How don't we visit some of the local shops!"
"Oh! Can we visit Smarty Mart?" Asked Jazz, as if she was reading Maddie's mind.
Hearing his daughter beaming with positive energy alongside her mother brought a smile to Jack Fenton's face.
The man declared, "Alrighty then! First stop, Smarty Mart! On the double!"
-Ten Minutes Later, At the Smarty Mart-
Kimberly Ann Possible let out a mundane sigh. She was accompanied by her parents, along with her identical younger twin brothers, Jim and Tim Possible.
The Tweebs, as Kim referred to them, resemble their father, only inheriting their mother's baby blue eyes. The two were a pair of ten-year-olds with pair skin, brown spiky hair, and wore the same outfit of a plain white t-shirt, brown cargo pants, and white sneakers with the only difference being the Jim wearing a green opened button-up collared shirt while Tim wore a red variant.
Kim wore a white crop top with a pink heart, a pair of pink jean-style pants, and white shoes.
The Possible Family, including Jim and Tim, were walking around Smarty Mart, looking for a tie for a particular tie for Dr. Mr. Possible to wear with little to no success.
"Mother, why are we here again?" Kim questioned, finding the task in hand to be boring at its best and irritation at worst.
"Kimmie, you know how important it is to find the right tie for your father's big day tomorrow." Said Ann, picking out certain ties for the man next to her.
"Surely there are better options elsewhere. Like at Club Banana. Or the Men's Suits shop next to it?" Kim pointed out.
"Our salaries assure us that we're well off, but money and branding isn't everything." Ann responded while watching her husband compare the ties that were handed to him.
"Nor does it grow on trees." James pointed out. "I've traded trends for my own spiffy style years ago. Never looked back since. Trust me, Kimbo, youthful trends die down on the advent of the real world."
"Hey, Mom?" Jim asked.
"Hey, Dad?" Tim asked.
The two parents turned to see the Tweebs standing beside them.
"Can we get a comic book from the store?" The Tweebs inquired simultaneously.
James looked at Ann, who nodded. James turned to their sons with a smile.
"Okay. But pick one comic each." James cautioned in a paternal manner. "Nothing more."
"Hicka-bicka-boo?" Jim said, raising a hand for a high five.
"Hoo-sha!" Tim said, giving his twin the high five before the Tweebs scurried off to the comic book section of the store.
Beep-Beep-Bee-Beep!
The ponytail-wearing auburn-haired girl took out her ringing Kimmunicator, and pressed the answer button and said, "What's the sitch, Wade?"
"It's not Wade~," A familiar blue-eyed redhead said in a sing-song tone, having appeared on the screen.
"Jazzy? Hey, have you arrived yet?" Kim questioned.
"Look behind you,"
Kim turned around to find her old friend that was seven feet away, waving at her while holding her own Kimmunicator.
"Hi!" Jazz greeted Kim.
Kim screamed in joy before she embraced the ginger-haired girl in joy.
"Oh my gosh! It's good to see you!" Kim gushed.
"It's great to see you too," Jazz said before gasping with a smile. "Hey, you're finally off the braces!"
"Yeah, it's about darn time too," Kim said with a smile before she let Jazz go. "You look great."
"Thanks," Jazz said with a genuine smile. "You too,"
"Is that who I think it is?" James said as he and his wife approached the girls.
"Oh wow, it's Jasmine!" Ann confirmed.
Jazz approached "Hi Mr. Possible, Mrs. Possible!"
"Look at you. You're all grown up!" James said, looking at Jazz when two more familiar voices called to them.
"James!"
"Ann? …Ann Credible?"
The Possible couple turned to find Jack and Maddie approaching them.
"...I'll be darned!" James smiled. "Look who's here, Ann!"
Ann turned to see the darker redheaded woman and smiled.
"...Maddie O'Connor?" Ann whispered.
Seeing their faces a wave of excitement through Kim's parents as they walked over to the ghost hunters.
"Well, if it isn't the big man himself. Here I thought I'd never hear from you again." James said with a knowing smirk, giving Jack a handshake. "How long has it been, Jack?"
"Seven long years, Jimmy ol' chum!" Jack said, reciprocating the handshake with earnestness. "Far too long, if you ask me!"
"Oh, Ann! It's been so long!" Maddie said, hugging Ann not unlike how their daughters embraced. "Last I heard, you got married, but I didn't know to whom."
"I would say the same thing, but I'd be lying," Ann smirked as she whispered for Maddie to only hear her. "I was wondering how long it would take for you to make a move on Jack."
"Oh stop it! If anything, Jack took that step," Maddie giggled along with Ann.
"Mom, Dad, Jazz? Where are you guys?"
The Possibles and the Fentons found Danny approaching the group.
"You're just in time, little brother." Jazz said.
"Daniel, long time no see!" James greeted the teenager. "Do you remember me?"
"Of course, Dr. Possible!" Danny greeted back with a beaming smile. "I still have that shirt from the old program! …Well, it's a little too small for me nowadays."
James laughed at this comment, glad to hear that Danny was still a Rocket Booster at heart.
"I wouldn't worry about that. I'm glad to see you and your family are doing well. Hopefully, we'll get to see you and your family around more often." Said James.
Danny nodded, only to lock eyes with Kim. For a split second, everything stopped as he felt a familiar sensation of captivation take a hold of him. For that moment, he couldn't deny how beautiful Jazz's friend was. Danny didn't know if it was his hormones, or if it's his longing for an opportunity to explore basic romantic relationships with the opposite sex, but the auburn-haired girl definitely stirred something inside the ghost-themed hero that he buried deep down.
'Oh man…' Danny swooned mentally while outwardly stunned, feeling heating form on his cheeks. 'She's as pretty as Val…!'
James and Ann didn't catch this, but Jack, Jazz, and Kim did so.
Jack and Jazz gave each other a knowing glance while smiling, thinking, 'That's a good sign.'
Kim couldn't resist the urge to giggle, finding Danny's seemingly innocent gaze to be rather flattering than something creepy.
Unfortunately for Danny, mental flashes of past negative experiences with girls such as Paulina, Sam, and in a technical sense, Valerie added with his ghost hunting duties snapped Danny back to reality, making his blush quickly fade.
'Get it together, Fenton! Yes, she's hotter than Paulina and Star combined, but look what happened with Sam. With Valerie. Remember who you are. What you are.' Danny thought, jaded over his duties. 'You can't risk a stranger's life, especially if she's Jazz's friend.'
"Penny for your thoughts?" Kim said, having approached Danny.
She recognized that Danny was taller than her, with her being five feet and six inches tall while Danny stood roughly two inches taller than her. In the past, this was the opposite, as Kim used to tower over Danny when they were eight-year-olds.
"Huh? Oh, sorry," Danny apologized. "I was lost in thought."
"No big," Kim stated with a knowing smile. "You were always quiet… well, until the space program started. Do you remember me at all?"
"Um, vaguely," Danny said with honesty. "I think you had pigtails last time I saw you."
"And you used to have round cheeks with freckles." Kim teased.
"They weren't that round…" Danny pouted.
"Oh yeah, I remember that." Jazz giggled. "I still have those pictures in my scrapbook."
"You do?" Kim beamed. "Can you send them over?"
"Let's not get any funny ideas!" Danny whined as the girls shared a laugh.
The parents turned to each other, with Ann saying, "They seemed to be getting along well."
"Thank goodness for that. Perhaps some time away from home was what he needed." Maddie pondered aloud.
"What's going on?" Ann asked her friend. "Not that I mean to pry or anything."
"Oh, it's fine," Jack waved off. "Our boy's just going through a rough patch at school."
"A rough patch?" James inquired. "As in his grades?"
"No, that was last year." Maddie answered with a sigh. "It's a long story…"
Before either of the Possibles could question further, Kim spotted her brothers running up to the group.
"Hey Mom, Hey Dad!" Jim called out, holding a copy of Crash Nebula.
"We got the comics-and-!" Tim spoke, holding a copy of the Fearless Ferret.
Tim and his brother paused when they laid their eyes on Jack and Maddie.
"-No way…!" The Tweebs gasped and whispered.
Maddie gasped, then questioned Ann, "Identical Twins? Oh Annie, are they-?"
"Yes, those are our boys."
"They're so precious!" Maddie gushed. "It's like looking at Danny during his elementary days!"
"Mom…!" Danny whined, palming his face to the amusement of Jazz and Kim.
Kim mentally added with no mirth, 'If only you knew…'
Jack smiled at the boys, then turned to James, asking in a whisper, "Twins, eh? Atta boy, Jimbo!"
James sheepishly chuckled, trying not to turn beet red.
"Hey, we know you!" Jim and Tim spoke at the same time, further melting Maddie's heart. "You're the Fentons!"
"Oh! They even talk in sync, Jack!" Maddie gushed, holding her cheeks in awe.
Holding his wife by the shoulder, he asked the twin ten-year-olds and said, "Oh? You've heard of us."
"Yeah, from Tech and Engineering Monthly!" Jim pointed out.
Tim added, "You guys were featured last year!"
Maddie snapped out of her daze and recalled, "Right! I think that was around the time that a reporter from Genius Magazine stopped by our house."
"Did you really build a portal and use it-?" Jim questioned.
"-to study ghosts?" Added Tim.
"Well, we don't mean to brag but…" Jack said with a prideful smirk.
"It's true," Maddie simply answered with a kind grin. "In fact, it's downstairs in our basement which we converted into our lab."
Jim and Tim turned to each other with an excited grin.
"Cool…!" The boys whispered to themselves.
Kim gained a skeptical expression, muttering, "...Ghosts?"
Seeing this caused Danny and Jazz to chuckle out of embarrassment.
James then turned to his old friend and said, "I take it that you're in town for the LAUNCH Conference."
"How did you know?" Asked Jack.
"Kimmie told me last week. In fact, I'm taking part in it." James casually stated. "Between us, me and the team from the space center have a surprise in store for the modern world."
"Well what do you know, I love surprises!" Jack chirped, with Maddie silently agreeing.
James and Ann look at each other as if they silently agreed on an unspoken decision, then Ann stated, "It seems we have quite a bit of catching up to do."
"Why don't you and your family come over for dinner?" Offered James. "We usually have it served around seven, on the dot."
Much to Jazz's elation, Jack and Maddie immediately accepted with Maddie saying, "We'll be there!"
"Wonderful! That gives us the excuse to shop for groceries!" Ann said before setting her attention to her daughter. "Kimmie, you can babysit the boys since school's out."
"Aw, do I have to, Mom?" Kim groaned, not finding the idea of babysitting her mischievous little brothers to be appealing.
Unfortunately for Kim, she was then subjected to the mistress of the dreadful Puppy Dog Pout. Yes, her mother shifted her face to that of a quivering pitiful being with shining blue eyes and a trembling lower lip.
She should know how effective it was, Kim had learned it from her.
She sighed, and eventually conceded.
"...Oh, alright." Kim said in defeat.
'...It worked!' Both Jazz and Danny thought in surprise.
"Hey, that's a great idea." Jack said as he faced his children. "Say, have Jazz and Danny join them!"
"...Ah, I see where you're going with this! Kim could give them a little tour around the town while watching the boys!" Said James.
"That's perfect!" Added Maddie and Ann.
Kim and Jazz glanced at each other with a smile, excited to hang out with each other. Jim and Tim glanced at Danny before shrugging.
One thing was for certain, this was going to be a long day.
Drakken's Lair, the Caribbean
Within the tropical archipelago of the Caribbean was the secret lair of the villainous scientist Dr. Drakken, who was currently awaiting for a henchman delivery from Quid Pro Quo. Going to the New York branch certainly opened Drakken's eyes to the amoral and psychotic practices of the organization, having only limited interactions with QPQ where he bought equipment or weapons and even hired some of Jack Hench's people as lackeys. However this new henchman, or rather henchwoman, was different. Augmented and experimented on and made to be a puppet for wealthy aristocrats and terrorists.
Drakken's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door alarm.
"You may enter!" Drakken shouted as the door automatically opened.
Coming through the door was a tall woman with a curvaceous hourglass figure and long, hip-length black hair, piercing forest-green eyes that had a faint glow to them, faded light green-skin, and black lips. Instead of her prison clothing from PQP, she wore a basic gray jumpsuit that suited her figure with black clothes and matching gloves. On her neck was a suspicious metal collar.
This was Item-353 of Project Nebula.
"Welcome to one of my many illustrious headquarters!" Drakken bombastically greeted the super soldier. "I am Dr. Drakken, one of the most brilliant scientific minds in the world!"
As Dr. Drakken presented his evil laugh, Item 353, or Shego, stood with a blank yet subservient expression.
She bowed slightly, then said, "It is an honor to serve you, Master."
"W-W-What? Master?" Dr. Drakken blurted out, taken completely aback at the woman's attitude.
Not that Dr. Drakken didn't like acknowledgement, hearing how lifeless and void of personality Item-353 had been in person didn't sit well with him. Especially having read her background.
Though, he assumed that Shego just needed to adjust to the new scenery, so Dr. Drakken cleared his throat and continued.
"Your unique powers and unparalleled skills in combat, espionage, intel gathering, and vehicle piloting have piqued my interest. With your physicality and augmented biology, I determined that you're more than a perfect fit for my liking. That is why I need you." Dr. Drakken explained.
"Of course, Master. I am your instrument. Use me to your liking." Shego said with an impassive yet submissive tone.
With his pale blue face turning a sickly darker blue, Dr. Drakken blatantly stated, "...Okay, you're starting to creep me out, and I'm the evil genius here! Could you stop disregarding your humanity so easily!?"
"That is relevant," Shego impassively answered.
"Irrelav-, for crying out loud, Shego! What have they done to you in there!? You're a person, not a mindless drone!" Shouted Dr. Drakken.
Drakken had read Shego's background before she had been abducted. He knew she was headstrong with a willpower greater than others, which made her behavior all the more unnerving for the genius.
Of course it didn't sit well with him, he was raised in a single mother household for God sake!
Item-353 then reiterated, "My designation is #353, the first unit of Project Nebula. I am to seek and destroy a desired target to completion."
This left Dr. Drakken utterly speechless. He grew disgusted at how Shego had been utterly dehumanized in the underground Alpha Trafficking ring.
'...I'll never do business with those depraved monsters again.' Thought Dr. Drakken. 'But there's got to be a way for this woman's true nature to resurface. What did they inhibit her with?'
Suddenly, Dr. Drakken's eyes wandered to the visible collar around her neck. He identified small peripherals on it along with a small light flashing on it.
'...There! That must be it!' Thought the blue skinned scientist. 'Perhaps my Technotronic Disruptor could come in handy.'
Dr. Drakken acted quickly. Walking up to Shego, he took out a small mechanical key shaped device that he made in his spare time. With it, he pressed it against the device and safely shorted it out.
From there, the collar dropped to the ground, allowing light to return to Shego's eyes. As if a heavy burden had finally been lifted from her body, nearly collapsed. Now, on her knees, the woman noticed the destroyed device that was in front of her.
'...N-No way! I'm free? B-But….but how did he-?' The woman uttered in her mind while catching her breath, only to notice the logo of her captors. '...THOSE MOTHERF-'
"See? Isn't that better? This is but a taste of my high intellect-" Dr. Drakken said, continuing his monologue, only to find himself on the receiving end of a leg sweep before Shego pointed one of her fists at him laced with cosmic energy, now crouched on top of him.
"YOU! I WANT ANSWERS!" Shego barked, not taking any chances. "YOU COULD HAVE DONE ANYTHING YOU WANTED TO ME AND THEN SOME AND I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO RESIST! WHY DID YOU TRASH THAT SUPPRESSION COLLAR? WHY BUY MY FREEDOM?"
"I-I-I" Drakken stuttered, fueling Shego's irritation.
"SPEAK UP, SMURF!" Shego shouted louder, clenching her cosmic-empowered fist that was cocked back.
"W-Wait a minute, Shego!" Drakken blurted out, holding both of his gloved hands up.
The woman's face softened a little upon hearing her nickname.
"...How do you know that name?" Asked the augmented woman in a softer but still serious tone.
"I purchased your freedom because I wanted to," Dr. Drakken explained, causing Shego to listen closely. "I may have a gradious ambition for the world to kneel before me, but I want that to happen with the human element in mind. Surrender with free will is far more rewarding and cathartic, especially when you earn an enemy's respect through fear."
"Dandy. But I could end you, hitch whatever boat you've got and ride off to the mainland." Shego dryly pointed out with a dark undertone while maintaining her intimidation factor despite her sarcasm.
Drakken gulped, but then countered, "T-That's a good point! But, you're lost, broke, and have nowhere to go or turn to. Besides, the last thing you'd want to deal with now is to be hunted by any government sponsored organizations for being an Augment. And that's if they don't get a hold of you again-"
"-ARGH!" Shego wailed, throwing a punch that tore a hole to the right of Dr. Drakken's head while the scientist yelped in fear.
While the man closed his eyes and shivered, fearing for his life, Shego got up from the ground and walked toward one end of Drakken's main room with her bangs covering her face.
"I'll never let those pieces of shit take me again!" Shego declared, feeling the cosmic plasma igniting with the same conviction to match. "Never again…"
Drakken managed to get up and open his eyes, mustering the courage to see the Augment's figure.
Her hands were tightly clenched, but Dr. Drakken had noticed that the woman's form wasn't just shaking from rage, but from a traumatizing fear. The woman noticed this as his plasma coated hands flickered and eventually receded from the stress. She covered her face in shame, overwhelmed with everything.
"...I'm ruined," Shego said, incredibly damaged and lamented from the result of the devastation of her life. "I should have never gone to that stupid party!"
Dr. Drakken, now on his feet, saw a glimpse of the real Shego and couldn't help but see himself.
He began speaking in a serious but soft expression.
"The world has failed you, just as it failed me," Dr. Drakken said, taking more of an empathetic stance.
Shego then turned to Drakken with an unreadable expression.
"Like you, I am an Augment." Dr. Drakken revealed, catching Shego's attention. "A result of a chemical experiment that went horribly wrong. In addition to my blue complexion, I am now immune to nearly all kinds of toxins and poisons, and I am also extremely tolerant to pain. It was the last project with my involvement before I dropped out of college."
'...So, he's like me.' The woman thought.
"I tried seeking professional medical assistance for my condition, but I was turned away. Shunned and mocked for being a blue skinned freak. Society had let me slip through their fingers, forcing me to hide in the shadows of the criminal underworld where I thrive today." Dr. Drakken recalled solemnly.
"...Why are you telling me this?" Shego questioned. "I never asked to listen to your life story."
"Because I can give you another chance at life. It's not going to be the same as the one you were taken from, but it'll be yours." Dr. Drakken offered "I have connections, one that extends to the global criminal underworld. With my resources, you could make serious cash that'll make you financially well off for the next decade-"
Hearing this piqued Shego's interest. While in her teenage years, Shego was something of a hustler. She enjoyed making bank during her hours to grind so that on her down time, she could shop and party. This had never changed with her core personality.
"-More importantly, I offer you these resources and tools as they're necessary to help you fight against any for you wish. In exchange for your services as my chief enforcer, that is." Said Dr. Drakken.
Shego repeated, "...Any foe?"
"Any foe." Dr. Drakken repeated with a serious expression.
"Then give them to me!" Shego demanded, walking up to Dr. Drakken's face. "I need it to destroy that goddamn club!"
Dr. Drakken held his hand up, then insisted to the woman, "In time, Shego. Targeting one of Quid Pro Quo's facilities takes time, money, and planning. Though, not impossible. We'll obliterate it together, but only if you accept my proposal."
Shego pursed her lips, still skeptical.
"Me, work for you? Fine, I'll bite. What are my benefits?" Asked Shego, crossing her arms under her ample breasts.
"Under my payroll, you'll get standard sick leave hours, PTO, medical coverage, and a free room that you can customize to your liking. I'll even throw in insurance for your room in case your property gets damaged or destroyed-"
"-But?" Shego inquired, raising an eyebrow.
"-But you'll have to help pay for rent and certain utilities in addition to your chief enforcer duties." Dr. Drakken explained.
"..Huh. That's surprisingly reasonable," Shego admitted before holding out a hand for a handshake in agreement to the deal. "What's the first gig, Dr. D?"
Dr. Drakken accepted the handshake and said, "My plan entails vengeance upon a dear old friend on a big day of his!"
Middleton, CO
As the group of kids and teens walked around the afternoon streets
"Is there really a ghost that likes boxes?"
"How many of them haunt Amity Park a day?"
"Is it true that Ember McLain is a ghost?"
"Are your schools haunted too?"
Saying that Jim and Tim Possible were interested was an understatement. They would each ask question after question regarding the supernatural activities in Amity Park, and the Fenton siblings weren't able to keep up with them.
On one hand, it was sort of refreshing that there were people out there like their parents and Mason who were fascinated about the subject. But on the other hand, the Tweebs were overwhelming the raven-haired boy and his older ginger haired sister.
Kim, having enough of the ridiculous barrage of questions, placed her hands on the twins' head while glaring at the brunettes.
"That's enough, you two," Kim said, asserting her authority as the older sister before tuning to Jazz. "Sorry about that. Prodigies or not, preposterous ideas can stimulate their overactive imagination."
"It's fine, Kim. No harm done." Said Jazz with a wry smile.
Danny, confused, was about to correct Kim with one hand raised, grabbed his arm, making the secret Alpha Human look at his elder sister.
Jazz shook her head, giving him a certain look that told him everything he needed to know.
The expression told Danny to "Leave it be," so he did… for now.
Instead, Danny took in the sights of the city and said, "...This is a nice neighborhood."
"You think so?" Kim questioned having her hands placed behind her.
Danny nodded, saying, "Yeah. I'd love to have grown up in a place like this."
"I know right?" Jazz empathized before turning to Kim. "Say, why don't you describe Middleton High?"
"Middleton? It's neat. The atmosphere is very modest, the teachers are fair and nice, barring one that's less kind but more of a stickler type." Kim described.
"You're talking about that Barkin guy, right?" Asked Jazz. "The one that gave you detention?"
"Mhm," Kim nodded. "Strict but fair. Apparently cheerleaders are not the exception to the rules."
'...A cheerleader, huh?' Danny noted mentally, gauging the girl very carefully.
A shallow and condescending voice spoke in Kim's direction, saying "Making yourself useful around town, I see."
The group turned their heads to find a slim tan-skinned teenage girl around Kim and Danny's age approaching them. She was a brunette of average height with shoulder-length hair in a shag cut, teal narrowed eyes, a slender but curvaceous figure that rivaled Kim, Paulina, and Star's physique.
The girl wore a purple t-shirt, blue jeggings, and purple kitten heels while holding a small black leather purse.
This was Bonnibel Justine "Bonnie" Rockwaller, a resident of Middleton and classmate of Kim Possible.
While Danny wasn't exactly interested in the girl the same way as Kim, she was just as attractive as her, even if she did look irritated.
And judging from Kim's sudden shift of expression, Jazz, Danny, and the Tweebs could tell that she wasn't too thrilled to see her.
"Bonnie," Kim curtly acknowledged.
Bonnie, speaking with the same tone, "Kim,"
"What brings you here?" The auburn haired girl inquired.
"Brick had errands to run, so I decided to take a stroll solo" Bonnie shrugged. "Is that illegal?"
"You said that, not me." Kim pointed out.
"Whatever," Bonnie scoffed.
"Bonnie…?" Danny questioned.
"She's Bonnie Rockwaller," Jim explained while whispering to Danny. "Her and Kim never got along since Middle School,"
Tim whispered, "They are both cheerleaders, but Kim's on top as the captain."
'...Kim's the captain!?' Danny gasped, both wary yet impressed at the girl's capabilities.
Jazz looked at Bonnie and mentally noted, 'Ah, I see. She must be the Paulina of Middleton.'
Bonnie spotted the new faces of Danny and Jazz and snarkily questioned, "Busy as ever I see. Are you stacking a tourist job on top of the usual babysitting gig, K?"
"FYI, B, I'm just watching my brothers." Kim casually corrected her. "I coincidentally ran into a friend from a couple of states over in the Midwest. She and her family are visiting."
Bonnie quickly glanced at Jazz, then thought, 'Of course she'd befriend another perfect redhead.'
"...Really?" Bonnie questioned, narrowed her eyes with a condescending smirk. "Where are the two of you from?"
Jazz kindly and vaguely answered, "Illinois,"
Bonnie slightly softened up, saying, "Oh? I see. I heard Go City's pretty popular with the in-crowd and tourists. Do they have any clubs you can recommend to me?"
Jazz and Danny grew confused, annoying Bonnie.
"What, is there something on my face?" Asked the shallow girl.
"They aren't from Go City-" Jim pointed out.
Jim corrected, "-they're from Amity Park."
A surge of disgust washed over Bonnie's being.
'...Amity Park? Ew!' Bonnie mentally cringed.
When she came to Illinois, she recalled how paranoid the creepy little town was. Aside from the locals allegedly suffering from the "mass hauntings", Bonnie remembered being invited to a party at a country club hosted by a certain delusional Latina girl a couple of months ago. She kept prattling on about dating a "ghost boy" or whatever throughout the tacky fest while complaining about some freaky loser disobeying her when she got tipsy. It wasn't even fun as presented, but Bonnie did swipe a few bottles of wine from the kitchen while she wasn't looking.
It was what she deserved as compensation for her time being wasted.
Outwardly, Bonnie reacted through a fit of laughter, which Danny and Jazz weren't expecting.
Sure, they knew how crazy their town's antics (namely, their parents' antics) were, but they never considered how someone outside their city perceived them.
"Seriously, that old fossil?" Bonnie mocked. "Is that the town full of crazies who gas lit the government into believing that ghosts exist?"
"What?" Danny uttered, taken aback by Bonnie's comment.
'Why would she insinuate that? Ghosts being real was already proven and acknowledged by the president!' The secret Alpha Human pondered.
"But they are real!" Jim and Tim refuted, voicing Danny's inner feelings in his stead.
"Of course you two would believe that. At your age, you'd think Santa Claus and the tooth fairy are real. News flash, dweebs. It's all a sham. Dead people stay dead." Bonnie asserted with a scoff.
"Oh yeah-" Jim challenged.
Tim countered the girl, asking, "-How would you know?"
"I've been to Amity Park, and I haven't seen a single ghost during my visit." Bonnie recounted while nonchalantly waving her hand. "Besides, it's common knowledge that haunting is a tourist trap."
"A tourist trap?" Jazz parroted, trying to follow Bonnie's logic.
"Yeah, d'oy! Those ghosts are obviously Alphas staging everything with the whole town and our government is in on the publicity stunt. That's what ranks in the cash. Just like that so-called ghost kid, Inviso-Bill or whatever his name is," Bonnie mentioned.
"It's Phantom!" The Tweebs corrected with a pout.
"Again, whatever." Bonnie rolled her eyes while thinking, '...Annoying little fanboys.'
The ghostly side of Danny grew annoyed when he heard this, but he kept himself under control with a small appreciation for the Tweebs' support.
Though, this feeling was short-lived as Kim groaned and said to her brothers, "Boys, you're too old to believe in myths."
"Both there's proof-!" Both boys tried to explain, only to be shushed by their sister as Kim turned to Bonnie.
Rolling her eyes, Kim turned to Bonnie and asked, "Do you have anything better to do than to make fun of my friends?"
"Oh, I have a million other things to do, but I'll always have time to take a crack at your loser friends-" Bonnie smirked.
'...Oh great, Middleton has a Paulina here too. What a total bummer…' Danny groaned in his mind.
"-Speaking of which, you can't let that loser join the squad!" Bonnie pushed with a glare directly at Kim.
"Ron is not a loser, Bonnie," Kim frowned, defending her best friend. "And there aren't any rules that suggest he can't try out as the mascot."
"K, it's not a Befriend-A-Loser week! We need a suitable replacement!" The popular girl stressed.
Sensing the heated tension, Jazz tried to step in as the voice of reason.
"Hold on. I'm sure you two can come to an understanding if you-"
Bonnie held up her hand while vocalizing her protest.
"Ah! This is an A and B conversation," Bonnie spat, pointing to Kim and herself. "So zip it or C your way out of it!"
Jazz, Kim, and the Tweebs gasped at the disrespect. And Danny…well, he didn't take too kindly to Bonnie's words.
Kim was about to scold Bonnie for her usual nasty behavior, but Danny had beaten her to the punch.
The boy stepped in front of Bonnie, much to Jazz and Kim's surprise, the Tweebs' curiosity, and Bonnie's annoyance as he stared her down.
"What? Do you have something to say, Joe Schmoe?" Bonnie asked with an irritating stare.
"Hi, B. I'm C's brother, D. And yeah I got something to say," Danny quipped with a vindictive smirk. "Your attitude sucks, and so do you."
Kim and the Tweebs couldn't believe their ears while staring at Bonnie's reaction. It was as if the tan-skinned girl received a smack to the face. Jazz wanted to stop Danny from making the situation worse.
The mean girl's face quickly recovered as she asked, "...E-Excuse me!?"
"You're not excused." Danny said with a scowl on his face. "Look, you can make fun of me and my town all you want, but my sister is off limits. Nobody talks smack to Jazz but me."
"What are you, her older brother?" Bonnie snorted.
"No, I'm the younger one," Danny smirked.
"Aw~! The baby brother thinks he can scare me for her big sis," Bonnie mocked in an overly sweet tone. "How cute~!"
"Yeah, but you're not cute," Danny retorted back. "You're about as appealing as a public restroom's toilet seat. Used, rank, dirty on top and underneath."
Bonnie's face burned right red in embarrassment as Kim's brothers held their mouths to stop themselves from bursting into a fit of laughter. Kim's eyes widened, not expecting anybody to challenge Bonnie into name-calling, no less Jazz's younger brother.
Bonnie was about to raise her hand to strike the boy, but Jazz intervened.
Jazz, not wanting things to escalate, grabbed Danny's arm and said, "Danny, stop! She's not worth it!"
Danny flashed a cheeky smile toward Bonnie before turning to his sister and saying, "Sure, she's not worth it. But you are always worth it to me."
Danny turned back around to Bonnie and said, "I'd love to stand here and listen to you bark some more, but we have places to see. Why don't you save the mean girl hallway trash talk for school and buzz off…Rottweiler?"
Bonnie sputtered at the insult, never feeling so humiliated. She wanted to hit this random loser from loony-ville, to put him in his place so badly to reclaim the shred of dignity that she once possessed. She was queen bee, damn it!
…But she couldn't do that. Bonnie didn't want and wouldn't give the smug bastard any more satisfaction that he got from her. That he won.
Besides, what are the odds that they'll see each other again anyway? He and his sister were only visiting.
Bonnie spun on her heels away from Danny and Jazz and raised her left hand to flip the boy off.
"I-I don't need to take this! Go screw yourself, loser!" Bonnie huffed before walking off.
Danny smiled in amusement and sarcastically said in a peppy tone, "...I think I've made a new friend!"
Jazz sighed in relief, but Kim Possible did not look happy about the situation whatsoever.
"That was awesome!" Jim and Tim gushed, surrounding the older boy, contrasting their sister's attitude.
"Well, I'm glad that you enjoyed the show," Danny playfully joked to the Tweebs.
"Not everybody is amused," Kim said, giving Danny a look of disapproval. "Like, did you have to stoop down to her level?"
"Well, it got her to leave, didn't it?" Danny said, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
"I could have done that myself." Kim said, hold her hands on her hips. "And I certainly would have handled the sitch better."
Danny shrugged, and said, "...You know, you're probably right. That was your classmate. But she should have thought twice before coming after my sister like that."
Kim sighed, understanding the boy's sentiment. She and Bonnie never got along from the start, and Jazz was trying to help alleviate the tension between the two, which Kim also appreciated.
"...Defending your family's honor is noble, but I think you could have been more composed in how you handled it." Kim said, looking slightly disappointed at him.
Annoyed but calm, Danny politely stated, "Tough, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree."
Jazz cleared her throat to change the topic, asking, "So, is there a place where we can eat? I'm a little famished."
"Right! We're actually near a spot. It's called-" Kim spoke before hearing somebody call to their group.
"Hey!"
The group turned around to find a fair skinned blond kid roughly around Danny's age and an inch taller than him with freckles on his cheeks and brown irises, approaching them. He wore a long-sleeve navy blue mock-turtleneck shirt under a short-sleeved red jersey, light brown cargo pants, and white sneakers.
This was Ronald Levi Stoppable, Kim Possible's childhood friend and resident of Middleton.
"Hi Ron!" Jim and Tim chirped, running up to their de facto brother figure.
"Wassup, guys." Ron greeted the Tweebs, ruffling their hair before giving Kim a slightly annoyed side eye. "KP,"
Kim mentally sighed, knowing that the boy was still upset with the cheerleader captain.
Still, she dealt with it and asked, "What are you doing out here?"
"Rufus and I were heading to our usual spot for snackage." Ron explained.
'Rufus?' Danny and Jazz mentally wondered. 'Who is he talking about?'
Ron then noticed the Fenton siblings, walked over and introduced himself.
"Oh, new people!" Ron commented, holding out his right palm. "Hey, there! My name's Ron, Ron Stoppable! And this is my buddy, Rufus."
From out of his sleeve, a small male naked mole rat poked out, and crawled onto his hand.
"Hnk!" Rufus chatted, waving at the girl.
Jazz, unable to process the sight in a healthy manner, let out a terrified scream.
"Get it away!" Jazz said in a high-pitched tone, cringing and flinching at the sight of Rufus, who looked confused while Ron reeled away. "Get-it-away-get-it-away-get-it-away!"
"Okay, okay! Keeping the animal away!" Ron said before turning to his little friend. "Sorry, buddy."
"Hnk! Hnk! Aw…" Rufus pouted while drooping.
Danny chuckled as he approached Rufus, telling his sister, "Relax, Sis. It's just a naked mole rat. They are safe to be kept as pets. I'm sure this little fella means no harm. And it looks like he's a smart little fella, right ya Rufus?"
Danny raised his left index finger for a high five, so to speak, which Rufus happily reciprocated.
"Alright! Score one for the Ron-man!" Ron cheered before high-fiving Danny, who accepted the gesture.
Kim's eyes figuratively glowed with jealousy shining in them, though she kept herself together.
As Rufus popped back inside Ron's clothes, Danny mentioned to him, "Say, we were deciding on where to head for food. Do you know the nearest spot?"
Ron found himself forming a large smile on his face when Danny asked that question.
"Snackage? Say no more and leave it to the Ron-man!"
-Several Minutes Later, at Beuno Nacho-
Bueno Nacho was a different experience to the Nasty Burger in Amity Park. The Tex-Mex restaurant's atmosphere felt vibrant, cheery, and lacked the dreary and stark nature of employees that the burger joint had.
The area was always clean and pristine, which was to the restaurant's benefit due to most food establishments' subpar sanitary standards.
And being in this environment astonished Jazz and Danny Fenton.
Once inside, orders were made and Jazz, Ron, Kim, and the Tweebs walked over to Kim and Ron's usual table while Danny awaited their orders.
Jazz didn't order anything, preferring to eat something at dinner.
"...So, Jazz was it?" Ron said, opening the conversation. "You and the fam are just passing by, right?"
"Uh huh," Jazz nodded. "It's just for the weekend."
"Cool. How long have you and KP known each other, anyway?" The neck length-haired blond questioned.
"We met when I first started going to Dad's annual in-house space program for kids," Kim explained, cringing at the shirt she used to wear in her mind. "Jazz and I kept in touch through the web during the years. She's like my digital pen pal."
"Wow, that's neat," Ron said before turning to his pet. "Right Rufus?"
"Hnk! Neat!" The naked mole rat agreed, nodding his head.
Jazz gasped and asked, "...Did he just t-talked?"
"Yup." Kim casually confirmed. "We found out during eighth grade that Rufus is mad smart. It's no big."
"Never mind Rufus," Ron said, shifting the attention back to Jazz. "Where did you and your brother come from?"
Jim partially answered, "Jazz and Danny-"
"-are from Amity Park." Tim finished.
"A-Amity Park?" Ron paled while Rufus shrieked, and ran back to Ron's sleeve in a panic. "I-Isn't that town the spookiest place on Earth?"
Kim rolled her eyes and flatly said, "For Pete's sake, Ron, stop being paranoid. Ghosts aren't real."
Ron responded with a scoff, saying, "Says you! I watched the news about that psycho circus reject from two months ago on U-Toob! If that's not proof enough, then I don't know what is!"
"Sure…" Kim said, always the skeptic.
Thankfully, the tension between the two friends were temporarily quelled by Danny Fenton's presence as he held the orders on a tray.
On it was a bowl of salad with ranch dressing and a lemonade (for Kim), two large burritos and cola and orange soda (Jim and Tim), and items that were a mix of a quesadilla and a chimichanga and what seemed to be nachos folded in a soft tortilla that had ground beef in it.
Danny gave an awkward joke, saying "Um…order up?"
Jazz gave him a look that asked, "Seriously? That was the best you could come up with?"
Danny verbally responded, defensively stating, "What? I was trying to break the tension here!"
"Boo!" Jim and Tim both dissed, giving Danny a thumbs down for the lame joke.
"See, even they thought that it stunk." Jazz dryly pointed out.
"Everybody's a critic…" Danny mumbled as he placed the plate at the center of the table.
"At least you tried, and I appreciate it." Ron acknowledged before getting Rufus out of his sleeve. "Rufus! Snackage time!"
Danny and Jazz were caught by surprise to see Rufus being given a tortilla chip dipped in nacho cheese sauce.
"...Is it healthy for his species to eat that?" Jazz asked Ron with concern.
"So not the drama, Jazzy. He's been eating the stuff since Ron adopted him." Kim reassured her friend.
"What can we say? Me and Rufus have a high demand for cheesy Tex-Mex goodness." Ron smiled as he enjoyed his food.
Danny turned to the Tweebs, wondering if it was normal. One casual look from the boys told Jazz and her brother everything they needed to know and made them slowly accept the reality in front of them.
"So, you met the Possible Clan at Smarty Mart by chance? What are the odds!" Ron exclaimed. "Say, what were you guys doing there before running into one another."
"Our mom suggested shopping once we got the rental car from the hotel we're staying in. When we went inside, Jazz ran into Kim and that's when we all kind of bumped into each other." Danny explained.
"Just like that, huh?" Ron smiled. "What made you guys split from the 'rents?"
"Uh, what?" Asked Danny, not catching the lingo.
"He means our parents." Kim clarified.
"Danny, Middleton's adolescent population carry their own culture of fashion, trends, and slang." Jazz stated.
"Oh."
"Anyways," Jazz began to answer. "Mr. Dr. Possible invited us to dinner, and our dad convinced us to tag along with Kim, who's watching the boys, so their parents can go grocery shopping in preparation for said dinner. Hence, how we ran into you and Rufus."
"Geez, I hope you guys didn't run into Bonnie because woo boy, was she tweaked!" Ron said, looking relieved and uncomfortable. "Glad she passed me by. If I hadn't stepped aside, I swear she would have throttled me and…!"
Ron stopped speaking when he saw Jim and Tim burst out laughing, Kim letting out an exasperated sigh, Danny sheepishly smiling, and Jazz lightly rubbing the bridge of her nose.
Oblivious, Ron asked, "What? Am I missing something here?"
Before Kim or Jazz could utter a word, Jim and Tim jumped in and gave Ron the run-down on what happened moments before his encounter with them. This included Bonnie's meeting with the Fenton siblings, her discussion with Kim, Jazz's failed intervention, and the brutal exchange between her and Danny.
Ron's jaw dropped before he screamed at Danny, "You called Bonnie a WHAT!?"
"A Rottweiler." Danny said with a coy smile, looking at the boy right in the eyes.
Jim and Tim continued to figuratively die from laughter while Kim remained mildly annoyed at the topic and situation before shutting her brothers up with a glare. Jazz was silent but slightly embarrassed.
"Dude, that's Bonnie! She's, like, a big deal around these parts!" Ron stressed in a harsh, but concerned hush tone. "You can't say stuff like that to her!"
Danny smiled at Ron and said, "Appreciate the concern, but I had it covered."
"I still think I should have handled that myself," Kim said, voicing her opinion. "All things considered, it's nice to know that there are other people out there that take a stand against social prejudice."
"I never really have good experiences with the popular crowd, and girls like that Regina George-reject have been some of the worst offenders of his childhood." Danny frowned with a bit of a darker expression.
Ron, studying Danny, asked, "Where do you stand in the food chain at your school?"
"The food chain?" Danny parroted. "What's that?"
"Some ridiculous social hierarchy that our school has," Kim stated, rolling his eyes.
"Bonnie mainly perpetuates it." Ron added. "Most of the school goes along with it in spite of being cool."
'...Yup, just like Casper High. Though, Paulina acts less mature compared to that Bonnie chick. That, and Bonnie's hotter than her, but I'm getting ahead of myself.' Danny thought while focusing on Ron's previous question. "I've been at the bottom for a while. Since elementary school, I think."
"You too!? That's great!" Ron exclaimed before clearing his throat. "Sorry! T-That's not what-, I-I mean, that totally tanks!"
"Ron, you're not helping." Kim said with a deadpan expression.
"Relax, dude. I get it." Danny said, alleviating any possible tension between the two as the blond sighed in relief.
'Typical Ron.' The Possible siblings uttered in their minds.
"...So, what did the kids drop you to the bottom of the social barrel for?" Ron questioned.
"I should ask the same question." Danny countered, just as curious.
Ron shrugged causally, saying, "Simple. The food chain thrives on trends. But the Ron-man thrives on pure vibes."
The boys chuckled while Jazz snorted with an amused exterior.
"So you say," Said Danny. "Wouldn't that way of thinking make you the opposite of their normal?"
Ron waved the notion away while Rufus blew a raspberry. "Normal, schmormal. I like how I am, thank you! I say never be normal."
Danny and Jazz found themselves smiling, given how the former felt about himself and his…change.
"Well, I'll ask no more." Danny told Ron before turning to his sister. "As for my situation…"
The Tweebs, Ron, and Kim watched Danny's baby blue eyes dart toward his sister. With a quick nod of approval from Jazz, Danny cleared his throat to answer Ron's question.
"...Well, our parents aren't exactly normal inventors or scientists. During their earlier years, they were well known for their devices to not work properly and explode." Danny sheepishly mentioned, causing Ron to nod, completely understanding where he was getting at.
Jazz bit her lip, looking elsewhere while Kim raised an eyebrow skeptically.
'...So that's why Jazz never talked about her parents' profession.' Kim realized.
"...Yup, that'll do it." Ron said. "What about school life? How bad is it?"
Danny snorted, then said, "How bad? Get this, Casper High's tradition has stayed the same since the 1950s."
Hearing made the Stoppable boy adopt a look of confusion, prompting Ron to utter, "...Say what?"
"Are you sure you're not stretching things a tad bit?" Kim inquired.
"Unfortunately, he's not." Jazz revealed to Kim before turning to Ron. "Our school's about as lively as the stereotypes featured in West Side Story and the Outsiders. Except they're all existing in the same place at the same time."
"Ah, okay." Kim and Ron accepted, understating the Illinois natives while wincing.
At least the two childhood friends had a better picture of Amity Park's environment.
"...Wait, if there are jocks at your school, does that mean-" Ron was about to ask.
"-that they wear Letterman jackets and stuff people in those super roomy body lockers? Oh yeah. A couple of them even have buzz cuts." Danny confirmed with a frown.
"Wait a second-" Jim paused.
Tim then asked, "-They actually stuff in lockers? Like in the TV shows?"
Kim furrowed her brows, now starting to not like this Casper High that Danny (and Jazz) were describing.
"That is sick and wrong!" Ron vocalized. "Nobody should get away with that!"
"You'd be surprised…" Danny whispered bitterly.
"Hey," Ron then leaned toward Danny's direction with a quieter but sensitive/embarrassed tone, then asked, "...Have you ever, um, lost your pants in public?"
Jazz gasped at the sudden question while Jim and Tim snorted, trying to hold back laughter.
Kim's face flushed, only to scold her best friend.
"Ron! What the heck!?" Kim chastised.
"What? It's a legit question!" Ron defended.
"It's not appropriate!" Kim refuted.
Danny, who was initially stunned by the question, recalled the times he lacked any control of his ghostly powers last year. From there he gathered his thoughts.
"Guys, it's fine. Really," Danny reassured Kim and Ron. "And I have, a couple of times last year. People wouldn't let me hear the end of it-"
Danny paused as he saw comedically joyful tears fall from Ron's eyes.
"...Uh, are you okay there?"
"Y-Yes!" Ron, sniffing while Rufus took a napkin and dabbed it on the boy's face via crawling. "I-I'm just so happy that someone shares my pain!"
Jazz and Kim looked at each other dryly, with Kim stating, "He does this every now and then. Don't worry, you'll learn to get used to it."
Jazz nodded then suddenly remembered something.
"Oh right, I think Bonnie also mentioned you joining the Cheer Squad." The ginger stated, looking at Ron.
The blond's face lit up while a tinge of guilt flashed on Kim's with her entire body freezing.
"I hope I do! I've got my mad dog routine in the bag!" A stoked Ron Stoppable gushed. "I am so ready for the part!"
Ron's excitement shifted into a glare towards Kim as he continued, "But someone's opinion says otherwise."
"Uh oh…" Jim and Tim uttered, knowing where things were going to get ugly.
Danny and Jazz grew uncomfortable with the atmosphere growing tense.
"Ron, let's not do this. Now's not a good time-" Kim tried to say.
"-Then when will it be?" Ron questioned. "Come on, I know I can do this! Can't you just trust me instead of an opinion?"
Kim sighed and said, "A shared opinion, Ron. It was the entire team's opinion. We've been over this."
"No, you've been over this!" Ron shot back.
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Kim said, now finding herself being verbally challenged by her best friend.
Ron scoffed and mocked him, saying, "Oh, look at me! I'm Kim Possible! I can do anything…except believing in my own best friend!"
"Don't you dare go there…" Kim said in a low tone, looking dead in Ron's eyes.
"Well I just did!" Ron said in a chill tone.
Kim stared at Ron for a few moments, seething in a white-hot rage before sighing and saying, "Look, let's just talk about this later, okay?"
"Stop flaking on me and-" Ron tried to continue.
"-I said later!" Kim hissed.
The entire table, no, the entire restaurant went silent after Kim's voice echoed throughout the establishment. Ron's anger softened to that of disappointment, something everybody present could see.
Especially Kim, who felt the dissipating rage shift into a striking guilt that pierce through her being. Still, her stern and headstrong exterior did not waver, as she meant what she stated.
Ron huffed and got up from his seat while taking Rufus back to his shirt.
He turned on his heels and stormed out of the store saying, "...Fine. I lost my appetite."
Ron leaving his food behind raised red flags in the Possibles' mind. Kim, regretting her decisions, was about to go after him, only for Jazz to stop her.
She shook her head, whispering, "Don't."
Kim sighed, and put her head down on the table in shame.
'Ugh! What did I do?' The auburn haired girl groaned in her mind out of frustration.
"Is he going to be okay?" The Tweebs asked Danny and Jazz.
"...I-I'm not sure." Jazz answered honestly as she went to comfort Kim.
The ginger turned to her brother and mouthed, "I got Kim,"
Danny understood and mouthed, "And I got Ron."
With that, Danny got up and ran out of the store, shouting, "I'll be right back!"
Kim suddenly looked up and over to see Danny's retreating back and her eyes burning with jealousy.
Alpha's Office, B.O.R.D. HQ, Amity Park, IL
"MALWARE FAILED!?"
Dr. Clef, Dr. Animo, and Dr. Drakken stood in front of the desk of their superior, Agent Alpha, within his office with anticipation of the dark skin man's rage and dissatisfaction in mind.
Ever since that day he was humiliated by a government official and some of his peers from the different factions, Alpha had been gung-ho on getting anything that could bring down or at least detain the ghost child, threats and warnings be damned.
This made sense, as the bureau was on the line, which meant his job as well.
"YOU THREE HAD BETTER GIVE ME AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE MOST ANTICIPATED PROJECT THAT COSTED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS HAD NOT YIELDED THE RESULTS PROMISED ME OR SO HELP ME-!"
"-With all due respect, Agent Alpha, sir," Dr. Clef spoke with his usually calm demeanor, cutting the man off. "The success of the latest model of the Sotoragg Project has not been guaranteed. However, I can assure you that Model 6.6 has served its purpose well now that the ghost boy's combat data has been acquired."
Hearing this calmed down the bulkier man, though vocalized in frustration, "Okay, so we've got more accurate data of his recent combat prowess. Great. What are we going to do now that somebody else has the first man-made Galvanic Mechamorph? What if that gets traced back to us?"
Dr. Clef scoffed at this, then said, "Please, that unit, while impressive for its kind, is defective. I doubt it'll survive for long."
"Yeah, that old super soldier wouldn't get a thing out of it," Dr. Drakken agreed, causing the room to turn cold and deathly silent.
Dr Animo facepalmed, saying, "...Lipsky, you're an imbecile."
"Tennyson has WHAT!?" Agent Alpha screamed out of fury and panic.
Agent Legion was about to grab the hem of Dr. Drakken's jacket, only for a flash of green plasma to narrowly pass Animo, Drakken, and Clef and above the B.O.R.D. leader's head, causing the other scientists and agent to stagger back. They saw that a hole had been burnt through the wall as a result.
Making herself known in the room, Shego appeared, wearing a new green and black catsuit, holding the cover of a vent in one hand with her other arm covered in cosmic plasma outstretched.
"Watch it, Baldy! That's my paycheck that you're manhandling!" Shego warned with a hardened expression.
'...Ooh, she looks divine~!' Dr. Clef ogled while maintaining his best poker face.
"What in the world!?" Dr. Animo gasped. "Who are you?"
Dr. Drakken grinned proudly and walked over to his subordinate and presented, "Gentlemen, allow me to introduce my new chief enforcer, Shego! Expect her to stick around from now on!"
Dr. Clef's visible eyes wandered from the woman's body to the power she had displayed up until now. This doesn't go unnoticed by the woman, causing her to glare daggers into his being.
"Do you have a problem?" Shego questioned with venom etched in her voice.
"...None at all, love. I am an Osmosian myself." Dr. Clef admitted.
Shego rolled her eyes, then turned to her boss, having taken out a drive from her cleavage.
"Whatever. Here you go, Dr. D." Shego said, handing the drive to Dr. Drakken. "Just like you ordered."
"Why thank you, Shego." Dr. Drakken said with gratitude before flashing a smug smirk toward Agent Alpha and Dr. Animo in particular. "Now if you excuse us boys…"
The pair began to walk off, only for Agent Alpha to recover and shout toward them.
"HEY! WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING!?"
Drakken and Shego turned back to the man with Drakken answering, "I have other business to attend to. We'll be back on Monday. Until then…"
Dr. Drakken turned on his heels, opened the door, and walked out of Agent Alpha's office with Shego in tow.
But, to get under the leader's skin, Shego gave Agent Alpha a small hand wave and tauntingly said, "See ya later, Agent Beta!"
When the two left, Agent Alpha slammed his hands on the desk in utter frustration.
"Who do those two think they are!?" The man growled, looking at the closed door.
"I'm not sure, but things just got very interesting," Dr. Clef claimed with a sinister smile.
Beuno Nacho, Middleton
Ron was fuming, having recently stormed out of one of his favorite places in the world, all because of a stupid spat he had with his so-called best friend.
He was angry both at Kim, but mostly at himself.
How could he have lost his cool back there? Sure, he was mad that Kim doubted his abilities or interests, but Ron knew projecting his insecurities could be unhealthy. Now he had embarrassed Kim in front of her pen pal and the entire restaurant.
But that doesn't change the fact that deep down, he was angry that Kim seemed to hold much faith in him the same way he did.
Ron's furious stomping was reduced to a pitiful walk of shame. Then, he stood still, lost in thought,
'...Good going Stoppable. You have really done it now.'' Ron's mental pessimistic side berated before he sighed. 'If things keep going the way they are, I don't know how long our friendship is going to last.'
"Ron, wait up!"
The blond found himself spotting Danny Fenton approaching him, shocked beyond belief.
"What did you call me?"
"U-Uh, I called you Ron? That is your name, right?" Danny stated.
"Yeah, it's just that random people almost never get my name right." Ron revealed. "At some point, I think they do it on purpose."
Suddenly, a flash of Dash Baxter's many insults flooded his mind, causing Danny to frown.
Danny thought, '...I can relate.'
"Strange. Why would newcomers make that mistake when most of the people here have unique names?"
"Beats me," Ron shrugged. "What brings you here? Weren't you keeping KP company?"
"My sister's got that covered on that front. I figured you could use company from a neutral party." Danny said as he spotted a bench behind him. "Mind if we talk for a bit?"
Ron gave Danny a small smile and said, "Sure. I've got some spare time left."
The two walked to the bench and sat beside each other.
"Do you wanna know what my damage with Kim is, right?" Ron questioned.
Danny nodded saying, "We've got to start somewhere."
"Fair," Ron sighed before starting. "We've been friends since pre-k. Even though I was weird, Kim liked me for, well, me. Cause of that, I stuck to Kim like glue, and she's been there for me. Whenever she needed it, I supported her through thick and thin. Heck, I even helped her with her website a little bit in middle school before Wade came along-!"
"Who's Wade?" Danny suddenly asked.
Ron shook his head with a silly smile, saying, "Oh, right. I forgot that you're new around here. Wade Load is a friend of ours that basically runs as its manager. The kid's younger than us, but he's a major tech wiz that organizes KP's jobs and assignments on her Kimmunicator-, uh, right. You don't know what that is."
"Actually, I do. Kim apparently sent one to Jazz." Danny corrected.
"What!? How could she send one to your sib before me!?" Ron ranted. "That's totally unfair!"
"I don't get it. From what you told me, neither of you seemed to have had problems while growing up. If you guys are best buds, then what's the matter?" The hero of Amity Park inquired.
"In case you haven't noticed, Kim and I are very different. I like who I am, but as we grew up together, Kim started to care about what others think of her. She wants to fit in, to be well, normal-"
'Just like me,' Danny mentally related.
"-So, I would constantly support her wherever she needs it, whether she's asking a boy out or needing help solving issues with her 'rents." Ron stated. "But lately, I haven't felt like I'm being given the same treatment back."
"How so?" Danny questioned. "Got an example?'
"I can give you two," Ron said, raising his left index and middle fingers.
"Yikes," Danny hissed in empathy. "Go on."
"Your school hosts seasonal dances, right?" Ron asked Danny.
Danny immediately felt dread wash over him, having traumatic flashbacks to the Fall Formal which made him freeze for a brief moment. He turned pale, then immediately snapped out of it.
"U-Uh, yeah?" Danny said, trying to take a hold of his mental and emotional bearings.
"Well, Kim tanked at asking the local hottie out to the Spirit Week dance, so I had to play wingman." Ron explained.
Danny smiled a bit, saying, "That's neat. How did that turn out?"
"...She got her dance, but she forgot to get me out of the janitor's closet." Ron muttered in embarrassment.
"She what?" Danny shouted with eyes widened in horror. "I hope that was an accident… How long were you stuck in there?"
"Hours!" Ron complained, still bitter over being kept inside the small space. "Thankfully, the janitor got me out on that Saturday."
Danny sighed in relief.
'...I guess he never mentioned that to Kim.' Danny thought to himself.
"Recently, there was an opening for Middleton High's mascot, the Middleton Mad Dog. Since the student that was the mascot transferred, I thought that I could totally do a good job."
"But Kim and the other cheerleaders don't." Danny assumed.
"...Yup." Ron sighed, while mentally adding, 'She probably doesn't want my Ron-ness to embarrass her.'
Rufus crawled out of Ron's collar to comfort Ron.
"Hnk! Ron, no sad," Said the naked mole rat.
Ron offered Rufus a sad but grateful smile, then said, "Thanks Rufus. I'll be fine."
The blond expressed to Danny, "...I'm scared, man. With Bonnie's stupid food chain creeping in our lives, it's only a matter of time before KP and I drift apart. And if that happens…I don't know what I'd do."
Danny compared his situation with his old friends to Ron's dilemma. Danny was different compared to Tucker and Sam. Their friendship was a result of them living in the neighborhood and being odd for their interests, especially Sam.
Of course, Danny met Tucker first, giving them a longer history. They may have had different interests, sure, but Danny's interest in NASA lined up with Tucker's fascination for technology and contemporary technological innovations. Tucker and Danny also shared their interests in video games and attractive girls their age.
With Sam, it was different. Despite growing up together, neither Danny nor Tucker knew much about Sam's home life or parents. Sam was outgoing, a contrast to the laid-back natures of Tucker and Danny. She was an aspiring vocal animal rights activist with a green thumb and a hard political stance against the government's authority, yet kept her personal life rather secretive. To Danny (and Tucker), it was hard to relate to her and her struggles up until the night of 8/4. The only things that all three of them had in common was that both of them hated their tormentors at school and that they all liked the local band, Dumpty Humpty.
Sam did like video games too, but never mentioned it to Danny or Tucker given that they never had the chance to play with them, having had to go home directly after school until Freshman year.
Perhaps, in hindsight, all of them remained in the same friend group because of their shared history, and because Sam loved Danny, Tucker knew, and both tried to push that idea of Sam getting with the Fenton boy which benefited all parties.
Maybe if he had just told his friends about the accident before that Fall Formal, maybe things could have turned out different. Maybe they'd accept him, and if Danny gave them the chance, could have gone ghost hunting together. Sam probably would have liked him more, knowing he was sacrificing personal things for the good of the town. The girl would have been thrilled to be in the action.
Danny mentally sighed, thinking, '...There's no point thinking about what could have been. I made my choice, and I got to stick to it. Besides, I wouldn't wish my life on anybody. Not even jerks like Dash, let alone my best friends.'
"...I'll be honest, Ron. I don't know you, so I can't tell you exactly what to do." Danny said up front, making Ron nod in understanding. "What I can see is that you and Kim care a lot about each other. But, speaking from an outsider looking in, and from the context given, your life seems to revolve around what Kim's up to."
Ron's expression became defensive. Before Ron could vocalize this, Danny put his palms up.
"Wait! Just hear me out!" Danny told the freckle-faced blond. "I'm pretty sure you have your own interests and whatnot, but you can't tell me that most of it didn't link back to Kim."
Ron's eyebrows furrowed as he was ready to protest Danny's analysis, but he couldn't put up a fight against a stranger that managed to read him like a book. His shoulders deflated along with his expression.
"...Fine. Maybe you're right." Ron pouted.
'...Hey! I got it! Jazz was right, this is fun!' Danny mentally beamed as he studied Ron's downed attitude.
"...You were right back there." Danny suddenly mentioned, getting Ron's attention. "About sharing your pain. In more ways than one."
Ron, curious, asked, "What do you mean?"
"I had a couple of childhood friends that I used to hang out with. I relied on their company, and that got me through most of my cruddy childhood. But then…" Danny started, only to trail off once a familiar pang of pain and regret washed over his body. "...I screwed up with one of them. Big time. The stress of it all got so bad, I had to let them go. That happened a couple of days ago."
"Oh man! I'm sorry that happened to you," Ron said, forming an expression that was filled with pity. "Were you left all alone? Just like that?"
"Just like that. For the entirety of Freshman year." Danny replied. "But, I managed to find myself a new friend group, albeit reluctantly. Still, they don't fill the void my old friends left behind."
"Well, at least you recovered from that." Said Ron with a hopeful smile. "You're a heck of a lot stronger than I am."
"Don't sell yourself short." Danny told Ron. "Say, do you have an athletic background?"
Ron blinked at the sudden question, then shook his head.
"Do you study?"
The blond winced and said, "...I may have a little bit of a hard time focusing on that. But it's no big!"
The raven haired boy, with half-lidded eyes, then plainly asked, "...Dude, are you trying out of interest for the position, or to stay close to Kim?"
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?" Rom inquired, mildly insulted.
"Look, I'm not here to spell things out for you. I'm just bringing something to your attention." Danny stated. "But, if I wanted to take up this Mad Dog role, I'd do it because I'm interested. And I would do it for myself, peppy blowhards be damned."
Danny placed a hand on Ron's shoulder, telling him, "While I can't speak for other people, if you're serious enough to focus on your goal, you can make it."
"...You mean it?" Ron said, swelling with hope.
"Completely," Danny nodded.
"Okay! I'll do it!" Ron said with conviction. "I'll ace the tryouts and do it on my terms!"
"That's the spirit," Danny encouraged Ron. "And if you're truly important to Kim, she'll come around and support you. …If not, give it your all out there on the court/field and show everybody otherwise!"
"Heck yeah!" Ron said, pumping a fist in the air before turning to Danny. "Thanks, Danny! I feel much better! I'm gonna get that part no matter what!"
Danny stood up, saying, "Glad to hear that."
He turned around, ready to walk back to his sister and the others.
Ron stood up and asked, "You're heading out now?"
"Yeah. I can't leave my older sister hanging, or I'll get an earful."
Ron chuckled, saying, "Can't say that I relate. I'm an only child. It was great meeting you though, D!"
"Right back at you, Ron-man. And Rufus too!" Danny mused before walking away.
As Rufus waved Danny off, Ron cupped his hands and shouted through them.
"HEY, DANNY! I'M NEXT DOOR TO KP'S PLACE!" Ron revealed. "COME VISIT SOMETIMES WHENEVER YOU'RE AROUND!"
Danny turned around and waved Ron goodbye, leaving behind a Ron Stoppable with high spirits.
Amity Park, IL
Inside of a limousine, Jack Hench of Hench Co. was enjoying his ride to a brand new city to expand his business and political influence.
An older gentleman that was driving the limo then informed his boss, "Sir, the estimated time of arrival to Amity Park is fifteen minutes."
"That's wonderful, Calvin. I'm looking forward to seeing my brand new club and company building."
His thoughts of grandeur were cut off by the sound of his cellphone ringing through the breast pocket of his suit.
He took it out and answered it, saying, "Hello? This is Jack Hench,"
"Hench! Long time no see!"
"Ah! If it isn't Drakken? Happy to hear from you again! How have you been? Last I heard, you were at the Big Apple!"
"Oh, I've been lovely! Listen, I'm in need of your services. May I place a basic order of henchmen?" Asked the genius from the other line.
Hench smirked and said, "Oh? Are you finally making that big debut you were planning?"
"You know me too well, good sir! I even got a chief enforcer for the occasion!"
"Exciting!" Jack Hench gasped. "I'll send you the invoice for the standard package. I'll even throw in a twenty percent discount just for the occasion!"
"I knew there was a reason why we've kept in touch! Always generous!" Said Dr. Drakken.
"Heh! I'm looking forward to seeing your villainous career take off! Best wishes, Drakken." Said Jack Hench before ending the call.
When the man looked up, he noticed a sign that said Amity Park, ten minutes away.
The man smirked and stated, "You're not the only one, Drew. I have some plans myself. Big plans for a certain little haunted town."
Possible Residence, Middleton, CO
The Fentons managed to get to the Possible household on time. James and Ann welcomed Jack, Maddie, Jazz, and Danny right in, and eventually led them to the rest of the Possible family.
Now everybody sat down at the dinner table in the kitchen, enjoying Ann's famous meatloaf, mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes.
Maddie was the first one to voice her enjoyment of the woman's cooking.
"Mmm~!" Maddie sounded in delight of the meatloaf in her mouth. "This is lovely, Ann! Isn't that right, Jack?"
"Mhm!" Jack nodded. "It's delicious! Thanks a bunch!"
"Thank you, you're too kind." Said Ann with a humble smile.
James, noticing his twin sons planning on a food fight via flinging their vegetables with their spoons.
"Boys, no airborne food at the dinner table!" James said, causing the boys to scramble and act normally.
Maddie turned to Kim and asked, "So, Kimberly, how is your Sophomore year treating you?"
"It's no big, Mrs. Fenton." Kim stated. "Outside of cheer practice, I pour most of my time on my side gigs."
"Side gigs?" Jack said, raising an eyebrow.
"Yep, that's our Kimmie-cub," James said with paternal pride. "After creating that little website of hers, she takes on various services and has been keeping herself busy."
"I think she's become famous around the neighborhood because of the service quality. To think it all started with Kim's little babysitting job…" Ann sighed, reflecting on Kim's earlier years.
This left Jack and Maddie relatively impressed with Kim, earning a smile from Jazz.
"I see…" Maddie commented, sending a smirk toward Ann. "I suppose the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Right Ann?"
"Oh stop it," Ann said with a playful tone.
Jack looked at his son and said, "You should borrow a page or two off of this girl, Danno. She's got a real go-getter attitude you could use!"
Danny frowned while suppressing the urge to roll his eyes, knowing the connotations behind his father's words despite the man meaning well. Kim heard this and smirked.
Turning to Jazz, Kim asked, "Have you turned in any applications for your colleges yet, Jazzy?"
"I'm still weighing my options," Jazz answered. "The main three that caught my eye were Princeton, Yale, and Stanford."
This left James and Ann stunned.
Ann spoke to Maddie, saying, "I'm surprised that you didn't suggest the University of Wisconsin. It was where you and Jack met."
"That sounds like a great idea! Maybe Vladdie could help aid in her tuition!" Jack vocally pondered, earning sour expressions from Maddie, Jazz, and Danny.
"Thanks Dad, but I think I'll pass on the offer," Jazz respectfully declined.
"...Wait. Vlad? As in Vlad Masters?" Kim questioned, earning everybody's attention for a moment. "Isn't he one of the richest men in the country?"
"Yeah! I heard that he attended that college too-" Jim mentioned.
Tim added, "-And runs Vladco, to boot! He's even built and launched his very own satellite!"
Danny narrowed his eyes when he heard the last part, barely managing to keep his powers from leaking at the thought of the creep spying on him and his family.
'I almost forgot how much of a fruitloop Plasmius could be.' The raven haired boy thought before he cooled off.
"Vlad Masters. I haven't heard that name in ages," James commented. "I guess he's doing well for himself from the sound of things."
"You know, I always felt like something was off about the man," Ann voiced out in the open.
She then recalled her college days when Jack and Maddie's university classmates visited her campus and distinctly remembered Vlad stealing not-so-decent glances at Maddie. It honestly creeped the woman out, but since Jack was with her, it counterbalanced her worry.
James too had similar thoughts back at his college as it was the same field trip, though a day apart from the visit to Ann's college.
Little did she knew, for different reasons, Danny, Jazz, and Maddie thought 'You have no idea,'
"I can admit that Vladdie can be a little aloof at times, but he's a stand-up guy once you get to know him," Jack said, pleasantly vouching for his friend.
This statement prompted James and Ann to raise their eyebrows while looking at Jack with a curious gaze.
Jack noticed the awkward silence between him and the Possible couple made him ask, "...Uh, did I say something wrong?"
James and Ann then said simultaneously, "That's not how we remember it,"
Jack frowned, mentally wondering, 'Why would they think that? Is something wrong with Vlad? What exactly am I missing here?'
Danny mentally decided to change the subject to save his father the befuddlement and frustration.
"So, uh, how do you know our parents, anyway?" Danny asked, coming off as shy in an awkward tone.
"Good question," Said James, offering Danny a smile. " Back in the day, I met Jack and Maddie when their class was on a tour on his college campus. I specifically recall your old man asking him to join a garage band to which I respectfully decided. Good times…"
Jazz, Danny, Kim, Jim, and Tim all glanced at Jack with inquisitive expressions while Ann and Maddie covered their mouths to refrain from laughter.
"Oh brother," Jack groaned. "Not this again…"
"Dear, aren't you going to tell the kids about the Skunk Punks," Maddie asked between giggle fits.
"I was in a phase, okay?" Jack grumbled. "The band didn't work out anyway."
Maddie asked Jack if he was willing to tell the kids about the Skunk Punks, and he grumbled that he was in a phase and the band didn't work out anyway.
James shook his head while Ann and Maddie shared another giggle.
"That aside," Ann said, bringing the conversation back to focus. "I met them the day after James did at the University of Upperton."
"Good to know," Said Jazz.
"Say, Mrs. Fenton," Kim spoke, looking at Maddie across the dinner table. "I heard you were a ninth degree black belt in taekwondo. Is that true?"
"Well, not that I like to brag, I am a black belt in Goju-ryu karate, tenth dan black belt in judo, and a ninth degree black belt in taekwondo." Maddie respectfully corrected the girl.
"Awesome!" Jim and Tim exclaimed.
"How did you learn all of that?" Asked Jazz with Danny having similar thoughts. "When did you learn all of that?"
"Dado liked to keep me busy as a child," Maddie answered nonchalantly.
"...That's impressive," Kim whistled. "I dabbled a little bit of modern wushu myself."
This earned Danny and Jack's attention while Maddie's intrigue heightened.
"Kung-fu you say? What's your practice?" The older redheaded ghost hunter inquired.
"I started at eight years old with one of the animal forms. I think it was Mantis style, then by the time Freshman rolled around, I kind of lost count. I think I learned about sixteen different forms?"
Hearing this made Jack's jaw drop while Maddie looked at Kim in awe.
"Sixteen!?" Jack and Maddie blurted out in bewilderment.
Jazz beamed at her parents' reaction, happy at their interest in her friend.
"Okay, I'm no martial artist or anything like that, but is doing that in a fraction of the average lifespan even possible?" Danny questioned.
Taking the question as a challenge, Kim confidently told Danny, "Check my name,"
"What?" Danny uttered, confused.
"Ah, I almost forgot that you haven't been here long enough," James said with a moderate chuckle. "We have a motto in our family that anything is possible for a Possible!"
'...Wow, that doesn't sound totally conceited at all.' Danny mentally snarked with a dull sense of sarcasm, only to peer into Kim's confident expression. 'Then again, there is some charm that her confidence brings. I wonder how she is in action?'
"So Daniel," James spoke, snapping the superhero out of his daze. "Seeing that you're around Kim's age, have you thought about taking on the family business?"
This question made Kim pay close attention to her friend's brother, awaiting his response.
The boy respectfully declined, saying, "No thank you, sir. While I support them, my interests lie elsewhere."
"Oh? Do you pick any after school activities?" Asked Ann.
"Um, not really…" Danny sheepishly answered. "I don't have the time since I'm prioritizing grades and all."
Jack and Maddie found themselves grinning, seeing that their youngest responded with such maturity while Jazz gave her a little nod of approval.
"I see no problem in that," James approved. "I have to ask. Do you still find rockets cool?"
"Oh course! I want to be in one!" Danny beamed in a childish manner, mirroring his father before composing himself. "...Or, at least work with them."
This brought a smile to his face while Jim and Tim grew excited as well, much to Kim's chagrin.
'Oh brother…' Kim moaned in her thoughts. 'At least he's normal… And cute.'
"Well, that's good to know. If you keep up the good work, perhaps you could get into the Middleton Institution of Science and Technologies. Their doors are always open for bright and hardworking students!"
Danny beamed at this.
"Mr. Fenton?"
"Mrs. Fenton?"
Jack and Maddie turned their attention to the Tweebs who held expressions of excitement and curiosity.
Jim asked,"Is true that you two built a portal-"
"-to the ghost dimension?" Tim finished innocently.
Jazz froze out of anxiety, fearing the Possibles' reaction.
"Oh no…" Jazz groaned quietly, placing a hand on her forehead, which didn't go unnoticed by Danny.
"Yup! After two decades of building and testing, the Fenton Portal's up and running for paranormal research and soon enough, ecto-exploration!" Jack happily declared before turning to Danny. "If it wasn't for our boy, we'd still be tinkering with it by now."
Feeling the Possible Clan's eyes on him, Danny sheepishly blushed, whining, "Dad…"
"Cool!" Tim and Jim expressed. "A real haunted city!"
"Boys, calm down," Ann gently warned. "I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation for the unseen activities going on in Amity Park."
"I'm no no spiritualist but given what mankind has proven throughout history, I suppose the prospect of sapient beings from an alternate dimension can be plausible." James added.
"But Amity Park is haunted," Danny pointed out with a polite yet factual tone. "You guys do know that government and even the president acknowledges that, right?"
Kim frowned at this while she spotted Jazz biting her lip nervously.
'So naive…' Kim thought, rolling her eyes.
"Really? Last I checked, normal so-called ghost sightings didn't involve visible spirits that could fire laser beams." Kim challenged.
"Yet they could walk through walls, disappear, and fly." Danny pointed out.
"Sounds like a ghost to us!" Said both Jim and Tim chirped, causing them to earn the stink eye from their elder sister.
"Coincidence," Kim waved off. "Or maybe there's a community of people that share a common array of powers. That doesn't confirm that they're spirits."
"Even if the atmosphere changes around them? Okay, sure, let's go with that," Danny said with a dry smile, earning an irritated glance from Kim.
Jack and Maddie shared an amused glance at each other.
"Hey Madds, can you imagine it?" Jack quipped. "A community of spooks?"
Maddie shook her head and said, "You know that's preposterous. They're too chaotic to be considered intelligent enough to have a sociocultural system like us."
Jazz frowned as she watched her brother look down on his empty plate, masking his offended expression.
"Regardless of what those floating empowered entities are," James spoke, getting everybody's attention. "The beauty of all fields of science lies in interest and the pursuit of knowledge."
"Well said, Jimbo!" Jack complimented. "And we don't just pursue for the heck of it, but we use our knowledge to better the lives of people!"
The adults nodded in agreement of both family patriarchs.
"The fact that you and Maddie develop incredible technology and help elevate and legitimize something once considered pseudoscience is phenomenal." Ann complimented. "I have to ask, how did you manage?"
"We've had our fair share of road blocks," Maddie mentioned. "But we learned to endure and adapt no matter what."
"Is that right?" James inquired.
"What can we say? A Fenton never quits!" Jack boasted.
James chuckled, saying, "Ha! I knew there was a reason why I liked you! I always admired your spirit!"
"What are you two working on these days?" Ann queried.
"While we can't exactly disclose any details about it, we're whipping up something big in the lab." Maddie said, getting the attention of Jazz and Danny.
"Oh yeah, it's gonna pack a punch!" Jack gushed before calming down a bit. "Well, when we get it off the ground properly."
Both glanced at each other, giving each other non-verbal instructions to check out their project when it was ready.
"Fair enough," James nodded. "But what about individual projects, things that one of you develops on your own?"
"Now that you mention it, I am developing a device that deals with spectral frequencies." Maddie explained.
"Ooh! Go on," Ann urged her friend.
"It works like this. If a ghost were to hypnotize people, I could take that frequency and undo such effects." Stated Maddie.
"I wonder if there's any lasting neurological effects to hypnotism," Ann inquired. "Given our dealings in typical science."
"Yes, not mad science," James added.
Jack laughed at this, then asked, "Say, why don't we swap mad science stories? I got something you'd enjoy!"
James nodded, and said, "Heh! Why not?"
"Well, there's this one Christmas where Madds and I powered our miniature oven with ectoplasm! Heh, we didn't expect much when we put the turkey inside, but the next thing we knew, our main course had come to life!" Jack explained.
"Dad!" Danny and Jazz whined out of embarrassment from the memory as James, Ann, Maddie, and the Tweebs shared a laugh.
"Well, I don't have any ghost stories, but there was that one time the boys dug into my extra scrap materials from my office and made a toy rocket out of it. At first, I was annoyed, but seeing their creation brought a lone tear to my eye. I think that was two years ago. Anyway, they flew inside of the house and crashed it into their sister's room. I believed it collided with one of Kimmie-cub's boy band posters."
"Ugh, really Dad?" Kim whined, prompting Jim and Tim to laugh at the memory.
For the rest of the dinner, the adults began engaging in more embarrassing stories about their kids, which prompted the teenagers to cringe.
In midst of the conversation, Kim spotted who flashed a comforting yet awkward smile that has a sense of genuine reassurance.
She knew what he was offering at this point.
A truce.
Seeing this, Kim accepted the truce by giving Danny the benefit of the doubt with a smile of her own.
Jazz, watching the two, sighed in relief.
Gray Residence, Amity Park, IL
Getting out of his van and in his normal attire, Stanford Pines walked up the stairs of the Gray Residence.
He waited for a moment, taking in the morning smell of breakfast, coffee, and fossil fuel. He had to remind himself that he wasn't in Oregon or Northern California for a moment.
After a few minutes, a person answered the door, though it wasn't the person that he expected.
Instead of Damon, it was his daughter, Valerie.
She wore an orange collared shirt over a red t-shirt, blue jeans with a red belt, and white sneakers. Her hair was in a ponytail that was poofy as a pom-pom.
"...Can I help you, sir?" Valerie questioned with her eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"Good day, young lady. My name is Stanford Pines. My great nephew is in the same grade as you." Ford stated, causing Val's eyes to widen.
'Wait, I can see the resemblance.' Valerie mentally noted.
"Oh, you're Mason's guardian." Valerie understood. "What brings you here?"
"Is your father home? We have something important to discuss." Ford asked.
"I got you, Mr. Pines," Said Valerie before calling her father, turning toward the hallway near the stairs. "DAD! SOMEBODY'S AT THE DOOR FOR YOU!"
Soon enough, Damon made his way to the front door and found the acquaintance he was working with as Valerie headed outside.
"Good morning, Mr. Pines," Damon greeted Ford, outstretching his right hand for a shake.
"Ford will do, sir." Said Ford, taking and shaking the man's hand. "We have much to discuss. May I come in?"
"Certainly, right this way," Damon said, ushering the paranormal researcher inside the Gray Household before Damon closed the door.
The African American man led his guest to his office. Ford sat in front of Damon, ready to begin their conversation.
"Were you visited by the authorities?" The head of Axion's research and development questioned.
Ford confirmed with a nod, answering, "Yes, Mason has worked on a handwritten account of the night as required."
As the situation grew serious, Ford asked, "Do you have what I asked for?"
From his drawer Damon pulled out a VHS tape that was an unaltered CD with the date written 10/27/05.
"This is a copy of the footage. The cops got their hands on the original as evidence." Said Damon, giving the disk to Ford.
"That's quite alright," Ford assured. "The important thing is that this will be presented this upcoming week at the PTA meeting."
"Agreed," Damon nodded. "Will my daughter or myself be needed later down the road?"
"If everything goes well, I doubt it. I will let you know if otherwise." Ford stated as he looked at the CD in his hand. "Though, knowing the lack of common sense among these parents, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them, or even the school decides to contest against us."
"Let them," Damon said with a calm yet provocative tone. "I'm from Lowerton. I'm not scared of a punk, whether he's from the streets or in a suit."
Dining Area, Middleton Suite, CO
Saturday morning arrived quickly for the Fenton family. And bathing and dressing, the four came downstairs for breakfast. Jack and Maddie head to the breakfast court to get plates for themselves and their children while Danny and Jazz sit at their table.
Danny sat in front of Jazz, staring directly at her which got her attention.
Danny wore a tailored black suit while Jazz wore a baby blue blouse, black skirt, and black wedges.
"Something on your mind, little brother?"
"Huh?" Danny uttered before recalling Jazz's question. "Oh, uh, I guess I have last night's dinner on the mind."
"...I figured as much," Jazz nodded, giving him an awkward grin. "So, Kim Possible. Any thoughts?"
"She's…interesting," Danny admitted, still conflicted about his feelings for his sister's friend. "Speaking of which, what's her deal?"
Jazz sighed and explained, "As you know, Kim and most of Middleton do not believe that ghosts are real."
"Yeah, I noticed," Danny commented flatly.
"Watch it, smart alec," Jazz warned Danny.
"Sorry, force of habit." Danny apologized, allowing his sister to continue.
"Compared to us, Kim is a basic average girl with a basic average family. I used to lean on her and her normalcy before…well, before…"
Jazz trailed off as she looked at him directly.
"...before things changed." Danny finished in a soft tone, understanding what she meant.
Jazz nodded, then continued, "You have to understand, Danny. Most of the world hasn't experienced the crazy things that occur in Amity Park. Some people aren't willing to accept what's going on."
"...I get it." Danny stated, holding up his face with one hand while the arm rented on the table as he sighed. "It doesn't mean that I don't get annoyed by it."
"I hope she doesn't find our family weird." Jazz thought aloud with a worried expression. "It's hard being friends with her when we're several states away."
Hearing this made Danny recall Ron's fears. Both Jazz and Ron didn't want to grow apart from the girl.
Giving his older sister a reassuring smile, Danny said, "I don't think you got anything to worry about. Our families seem to get along just fine. And while Kim and I disagree on things, I'm not getting any Paulina vibes from her. If anything, she's lucky to have a friend like you."
"Thanks," Jazz said, grateful for her brother's words. "Hey…Are you doing okay?"
Danny cocked an eyebrow, asking, "What? Me?"
"Of course you, dummy!" Jazz teased. "We haven't checked in for a few days. I was wondering how you've been since dealing with that evil future Danny."
Danny's expression turned indifferent from the question, saying, "What about him?"
"...Does he still bother you?" Asked Jazz, placing hand on Danny's free hand.
Danny's indifferent exterior fell, allowing a side of vulnerability to be shown.
"...Honestly, he'll never not bother me. Every time I look in the mirror, I have to tell myself that I'm not him and that I'll never become him."
"You won't," Jazz said firmly.
"I know," Danny reassured, squeezing his older sister's hand. "It doesn't matter anyway. He's gone. Forever."
"I know. And I can't be more proud of you…" Jazz smiled before trailing off again, having a lingering thought in her mind.
"Is something the matter?" Asked Danny.
"Yeah. Something happened before you returned to the present," Jazz confessed. "That version of you, he said that he hated us. Well, that he hated our parents, Sam, Tucker, Valerie, and Mr. Lancer, and that he reveled in their deaths."
Danny wasn't fazed by the revelation as he asked, "And what did he say about you?"
"...Surprisingly enough, he didn't hate me. But…" Jazz said before biting her lower lip
"But?" Danny repeated.
"...He assumed that I'd just abandon you once I graduate." Jazz mentioned.
Danny became silent when he heard that, averting his eyes away from his sister.
"Danny, are you really okay with it? With me going off to-"
"-It doesn't matter how I feel about it, Jazz." Danny cut off with a soft but firm tone. "You've worked your butt off to get where you are. I'd be the worst brother in the world if I let my problems ruin your chance to start a life of your own."
Jazz gave the boy a solemn smile and said, "That's sweet of you, but you matter to me too, Danny. Did you think I'd let you go through the wringer while I can do something about it?"
Danny paused, then said, "It's not like I'm going to be alone, you know. I have Mason, Pacifica, and Valerie to look out for me."
"What about Mom and Dad?" Jazz questioned. "Time may have reset, but they felt remorse back then when they learned the truth."
Danny softly nodded his head, croaking, "I know…"
"Danny, they love you. No matter whether you're a ghost, a boy, or somewhere in between, you'll always be their son." Jazz affirmed to her brother. "Maybe what happened is a sign."
"Maybe," Danny pondered, closing his eyes before taking his hand away from his sister's. "But I'm still not ready for that. I don't know what'll happen after they learn what I am. And I don't plan on finding out anytime soon."
Jazz nodded in resignation respectfully, saying, "...I understand. But you know that the longer this is kept in the dark, the worse it'll do you and them harm."
"I know, sis," Danny acknowledged. "I'll tell them some day, I swear. I just have to get them to like Phantom. Or at the very least, open their minds up a little on ghosts."
"...Danny, you know that our dad is Jack Fenton right?" Jazz questioned with a bemused expression.
"Yeah, and so what?" Danny challenged with a daring expression before mimicking Jack's tone of voice. "I'm a Fenton myself, and Dad didn't raise a quitter!"
"That's the spirit!" Jazz humored.
The two shared a wholehearted laugh for a good thirty seconds before Jazz took hold of the conversation.
"On a serious and related note, maybe you and Dad shook to have a talk," Jazz advised. "You know, a real talk? It'll do you both some good,"
Danny frowned for a bit, then relented with a sigh.
"Fine, you win," Danny mumbled.
"Kids! We've brought breakfast!" Maddie announced, prompting the siblings to turn to the direction of their approaching parents that held plates of steaming hot flapjacks and bacon.

The Fentons arrived at the Middleton Space Center thirty minutes earlier than intended. The Fenton couple decided to represent, wearing their jumpsuits while their children remained in their formal wear.
Entering the lobby of Dr. James Possible's workplace, the Fenton family visually grasped their surroundings. They found themselves surrounded by employees, contractors, researchers, stakeholders, and grantees.
"Oh wow!" Said Jazz and Maddie uttered simultaneously.
"It's gonna be a full house here," Jack verbally noted. "Jimmy's got his work cut out for him today!"
"No kidding…" Danny whispered.
While the family walked along the room, Technus' face appeared on the screen of Jazz's Kimmunicator.
The Poltergeist silently cackled in Jazz's purse, thinking, 'Now to bide my time with these whelps…!'
Jazz turned elsewhere and gasped, grabbing Danny's arm and said, "Danny look over there!"
The younger Fenton sibling's gaped at the sight of a Latin American couple wearing formal wear.
"Is that the Salazars?" Danny questioned. "Aren't they heading nanotech research? What are they doing here?"
"Nanotechnology encompasses many aspects of the industry. This includes the space industry." Jazz explained, looking at a young lady that was next to the Salazars. "And I think they brought an understudy."
Danny turned around and spotted three people next to Dr. Mr Possible and Dr. Mrs. Possible while their kids were to their side.
Two of them, he instantly recognized.
"Robert Chen and Professor George Ramesh are here too?" Danny stated. "They're big deals in the astronomy community!"
"I guess all of the big shots are here, barring Mr. Tennyson," Jack smiled before approaching James and his colleagues.
"You sure you're ready, James?" Bob Chen inquired.
"As ready as I'll ever be," James smiled in a confident manner.
"I'm sure you'll knock it out of the park," Ramesh said.
"It wouldn't be his first time, right dear," Ann winked, causing the other two men to chuckle while James blushed.
To save him from the embarrassment, he quickly looked elsewhere until he spotted Jack Fenton and his family approach them.
"H-Hey, look who arrived!" James announced, causing the rest of the Possibles to follow as the patriarch walked to Jack.
Jack and James exchanged handshakes as he spoke to Jack and his family, saying, "I'm glad everybody can make it."
"Like we'd missed this!" Jack said, filled with excitement. "All this hype for this surprise is giving me goosebumps!"
Jim and Tim ran up to Jack, then asked, "Could you tell us about your ghost portal, Mr. Fenton?"
"Calm down, boys. He's not going anywhere," James said with an amused smirk, placing a hand on the Tweebs' shoulders.
Turning to Jack and Maddie, Ann explained to the Fenton couple, "Mind entertaining them? Jim and Tim wouldn't stop formulating theories after hearing about your Fenton Portal."
"Not at all, Ann," Maddie said with pride swelling inside of her.
"So! You two want to learn about the Fenton Portal's inner workings-?" Jack said as the Fenton couple went to speak with the beaming Tweebs.
This left Jazz and Danny alone with Kim.
Danny was left in a daze when he saw Kim's outfit. This time, Kim wore a black sweater, a small gold necklace, maroon pencil skirt, and black heels while still keeping her hair in a single ponytail.
"Hey, Jazzy!" Kim greeted her friend.
"Oh my gosh," Jazz gasped as she gushed at Kim's outfit. "You look stunning Kim!"
"Thanks! You look cute too," Kim complimented back.
Danny, meanwhile, thought to himself while blushing, '...Oh man. I know I shouldn't be checking her out, but I can't help it! She's gorgeous!'
"Danny? Danny!"
The Alpha Human snapped out of his seemingly innocent daze as he turned to his elder sister.
"Huh? Sorry, were you saying something, Jazz?" Asked the ghost kid in his human form.
Kim and Jazz looked at each other, smiled, then hopelessly shook their heads.
"No, dummy, she was," Jazz said, gesturing to Kim, catching Danny off guard.
"...Oh. Really? What's up?" Asked Danny, with his attention set to the eldest Possible child.
"I'd like to talk, if that's okay?" Kim asked.
Before Danny could respond, Jazz semi-awkwardly said, "What was that? Oh, I guess Mom and Dad's calling me. I'll catch up with you guys later!"
With that, Jazz quickly walked away while the shoes clicked on the ground, leaving Danny Fenton to face Kim Possible, a girl he had conflicting emotions toward. Kim took Danny aside suddenly, causing him to nearly yelp.
"H-Hey, wait a minute! What are you-?"
"Just hang tight a sec, okay?" Kim advised, taking him by the hand and walked away from their respective families and away from eavesdroppers.
Eventually, they were in an area that was as private as possible while still being in eyeshot of their families.
Danny looked around awkwardly, trying to steel his nerves and failing miserably.
"...So, how's the weather?" Danny questioned with a wry smile.
Kim, smiling normally, said, "You do know that we're indoors, right?"
Realizing his words and how nervous he was, Danny paled, then facepalmed.
"Ugh!" Danny groaned. "I'm a mess! No wonder I got made fun of..."
Kim giggled at this, remembering how shy Danny was when they were little and thought, 'So obvious. At least he's sort of self aware. It's kind of cute.'
"Are you always this bad at talking to girls?" Kim asked in a quip.
"It comes with being the odd one out," Danny quipped back while letting out a sigh.
"How do I put this…" Danny thought aloud before coming up with a response. "...When you're the normal one out of a family of geniuses, you tend to second guess yourself about a lot of stuff."
Kim groaned, saying, "Tell me about it. Between the brain surgeon and a rocket scientists, I'm definitely the odd one out. And when the Tweebs came along and got into my dad's stuff, they turned into natural born prodigies. I kind of felt almost out of place. Like what am I? Chopped liver?"
"Could have fooled me. You're like filet mignon. Meanwhile stuck as a Slimjim," Danny quipped, earning him the melodious giggles from his sort of rival, sort of crush.
"You're funny!" Kim admitted, holding her fist under her chin.
Danny joined in on the laughter before the two settled down.
"Not to sound rude or anything, but why did you drag me over here? I thought you didn't like me, given how we started on the wrong foot." Danny finally naked.
"I know, I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry," Kim apologized in a mature fashion. "I have a knack for turning things into a competition…and taking things the wrong way."
"What do you mean?" Asked Danny.
"Initially, I thought you came off as a jerk with the sitch with Bonnie," Kim admitted. "...And learning about the circumstances behind your suspension didn't help."
Danny froze when he heard the latter half section of Kim's confession.
"...You know about that, huh?" Danny questioned in a whisper, averting his eyes to the floor.
"I overheard our dads talking before yours left last night," Kim elaborated, ashamed. "I thought you took a turn for the worst and would be a bad influence on the Tweebs and Ron, but my Mom intervened and talked some sense into me after filling me in on your situation."
"Oh," Danny uttered, shocked as to how much the Possibles knew yet still remained friendly toward him.
"I didn't do some thinking last night and earlier this morning, and I want to give things another shot, so I want to get to know you. For real this time." Kim said with sincerity, extending a hand for a shake.
When Danny heard this, he couldn't help but admire Kim's maturity.
'...Wow. Kim is witty, headstrong, determined, athletic, charming, normal, drop dead gorgeous, and sincere! She is everything that I want in a girlfriend! And yet…'
Danny's mind trailed off to his double life. No matter how much he'd love to try things with Kim, he had a duty to protect his haunt. And even by some miraculous act of God that she'd accept him for what he had become, Danny would never let himself share the burden of his mistake on any civilian, let alone Kim. If his enemies knew who she was, they could use her and/or her family against him.
No, he wouldn't allow it. As much as he was attracted to her, Kim Possible was off limits. For her sake, and the sake of her family.
…Not that he'd want to risk getting his heart shattered again so early.
But for the sake of keeping up appearances and to make his sister happy, he took the initiative and took her hand with his own.
"Gladly. Anybody who's cool with Jazz is cool with me." Danny said with a small smile.
"Spankin'!" Kim responded, happy to have made a new friend.
-Thirty Minutes Later, Auditorium-
Soon enough, people began to head to their seats as the event was about to begin. To start off the event, Wanda Wong, a board member of the Middleton Space Center, walked up to the stage and introduced the audience to herself, the organization, and what the guests, investors, and affiliates would expect for the presentation.
When Dr. Wanda Wong, organizer of the event, had two workers wheeled in a large heavy console that was covered in a large tarp.
From there, Dr. James Possible was called up to the center stage.
Everybody in the audience gave him a thunderous round of applause as the man walked up to the stage, shook the board member's hand before she left for James to speak.
After the obligatory speech, he leaned toward the reveal.
"Ladies and gentlemen, millions of years of innovation and rapid evolution has brought us another big step toward advancement!" James stated, placing a hand on the tarp. "Today, our team at the space center presents the new…"
James took off the tarp, revealing a large supercomputer with a large tower, captivating the eyes of many technologists, engineers, and those not in the know in computers.
"...Mega Cybertron Hub Computer, James revealed. "This beauty was developed for the last five years thanks to our research and development team, including the contributions of our very own Vivan Porter."
The woman in question was in the audience that sat on one of the many tables. She had blonde hair and blue eyes with a beauty mark on the right side of her face, wearing a red dress. She waved when people identified her.
James then went on to explain, "While still a prototype, this is currently the most powerful computer on Earth, capable of taking command of every CPU in the world with its potential."
Everybody was shocked and impressed with this revelation, including a certain Poltergeist that had caught wind of this within Jazz's purse.
"Thankfully, there is a security measure put in place to keep this powerful piece of hardware from falling into the wrong hands," James assured. "Furthermore, this build will be used as a portal to access other NASA units remotely, and it will be done by shipping it on a shuttle within a week's time. It will be placed in a satellite by one of our rigorously trained teams."
James finished with an ending speech about complimenting his team and superiors and expressed how grateful he was to be a part of the space center before thanking everybody.
Once again, everybody cheered for James as he smiled from the center stage.
He was about to walk away when several windows from above were broken into, causing the audience to scream and panic.
This was caused by three figures who somersaulted and landed on the ground in a chrome blur. From there, they blurred to opposite sides of the walls and created large holes in the walls, causing the intrusion of twenty henchmen wearing black and red jumpsuits and masks to pour in and corner the panicking crowd of civilians.
On a positive note, many of them managed to escape. Meanwhile, some of the important guests were rounded up by the armed henchmen like stragglers. This included the Possible and Fenton families.
James, who saw his family getting captured and rounded up, attempted to run off of the stage.
"Ann! Kids!"
Unfortunately, his actions led to him being swiftly struck down by a kick that came out of nowhere. James went flying across the stage floor.
"Uh, uh, uh," A villainous yet feminine voice spoke as James looked up to see a green skinned woman wearing a green and black jumpsuit standing in front of him. "Can't have you go playing hero now, can we? After all…"
"...You're the man of the hour!" Shego shouted, tossing James to the other side of the stage.
"JAMES/DAD!" The Possible screamed, having watched the man getting attacked.
James wheezed after sliding on his stomach until he found another pair of legs. This time, he could tell from the clothes that the person he was looking at was a male.
His head was forcefully jerked up by Shego, who grabbed James by the hair.
"Why hello again, James Timothy Possible!"
