Chapter 17-Troubling news
Daniel's P.O.V
Fire lit up the night sky as Daniel held his gun in his hand. Across from the fire sat Dr. Edward Jenner. The CDC scientist stared at the man with his hands tied behind his back. "I just wanted to die," Jenner says softly. "You're too valuable, you know too much," Daniel says.
"How'd you know?" Jenner asks. "We ran into a group of solders coming here," Daniel says. "They had a senator with them, the night, they tried to take advantage of Ofelia and Liza, I killed them all, but before I killed that senator, I asked him questions, about this place, about the CDC."
"You took everything away from me," Jenner says. "You will thank me, one day doctor," Daniel says. "You did not want to die, you had no hope, if you truly wanted to die, you would throw yourself into that fire or try to run. Yet you have not. Sleep," Daniel tells the doctor who just lays on the ground.
The CDC
A day before
Daniel, Liza, and Ofelia walked up to the doors of the CDC. "Hello?" Liza says. "if someone is in there, please, open the doors."
"This is a waste of time, Liza," Daniel says. "Just trust me, Daniel," Liza says as she pounds on the door. "Please open the door!" Liza says. "Walkers," Ofelia says as he aims her gun. "It's time to go," Daniel says as he grabs Liza who sees the camera move.
"It moved Daniel, someone is in there. If you leave us out here, we will die!" Liza shouts. "Let's go," Daniel says as he pulls Liza away but the door opens. The three of them looked at the door and ran inside. They looked around. "Are any of you bit?" The three of them turn and look at a man. "No," Ofelia answers.
"What do you want?" He asks. "I'm looking for my son," Liza says. "I was hoping he was here."
"There is no one here," Jenner says. "Only me," Jenner says as he lowers his gun. "I'm sorry."
Liza nods as Daniel removes his gun and aims it at the doctor who goes to raise his gun but is shot in the shoulder by Daniel. He falls to the ground as Daniel walks up to Jenner and grabs him.
"Daniel what the hell are you doing?" Liza asks.
"We need him," Daniel says as he knocks the man out. "Let's go."
Present
The next morning Daniel looks at Jenner as he opens his eyes. "Do you even sleep?" Jenner asks.
"I did," Daniel says. "Get up, it is time for us to talk."
Jenner brings himself up as Ofelia and Liza get out of the car and walks over to them. "What do you want to know?"
"Were you close to finding a cure?" Daniel asks. "No," Jenner answers. "Is it everywhere?" Liza asks Jenner who nods.
"This is our extinction event," Jenner says.
"What else can you tell us?" Ofelia asks. "We're all infected," Jenner says. "What do you mean?" Daniel asks. "No matter how you die, a bullet, a bit. You turn into one of them, the brain has to be destroyed no matter what," Jenner tells them. The three of them look at him in shock. "Now that you know, you could kill me."
"I'm not going to do that," Daniel says. "Come on, we still have to find Liza's son," Daniel says as he walks over to the doctor and helps him up. "Like I said last night, you'll thank me for this one day," He says as he leads him to the car.
Rick's P.O.V
The group sat around the fire as they ate. "So we'll move to that farm today?" Carol asks. "Yeah, we'll go get everything set up and Daryl and Andrea will bring Amy later when we're ready," Glenn says. "Lexi tells me that there are four bedrooms. Rick, Lori, and Carl will take one, Carol and Sophia will take one, so will Travis, Madison and the finale one will go to David and Mandy. We'll clean out the barn and the shed, and we'll use that for people to sleep in. We'll have to figure out how to heat them before winter hits," Glenn says. "So let's get camped packed up and we'll go," Glenn says and the group nods as they continue to eat. After Rick helps Lori take the tent down. He walks over to the older Dixon brother as he takes his tent down. "You need some help?" Rick asks Merle. "I'm fine, Officer," Merle says. "I'm surprised you are still with the Mrs," Merle says. "Why? Because of her and Shane?" Rick asks making Merle look at him. "I'm not blind Merle, I figured it out pretty quickly."
"Most guys in your situation would knock Shane's teeth out," Merle says. "We already got enough enemies. We don't need to be fighting each other," Rick says. "I'll go help Carol," Rick says before he walks away from the older Dixon brother.
Glenn's P.O.V
Glenn put his tent in the car as Lexi walked up behind him. "Daryl tells me that you and him do a lot of the runs for the group," Lexi says to Glenn who nods. "I do," Glenn says. "Why?"
"There's a pharmacy in town. Hershel was wondering if you could go there and get some supplies. He doesn't like sending Maggie out there." "Yeah, you have a list?" Glenn asks Lexi who nods as she hands him the list.
"Hershel said you could take some horses. Who are you going to take with you?"
Glenn looks around and his eyes stop on Alicia who was talking with Madison. "Alicia," Glenn says making the girl look at him. "You wanna come with me on a run?" "Sure," Alicia says and Glenn nods as he looks at Travis. "You're in charge of the move, Travis," Glenn says to the man who nods as Glenn walks away from Lexi who goes to get the horses.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl sat with his foot up on the bed and a book in his hand. "I never thought I would see you read," Amy says making Daryl look at her. "I don't do it very often, but I'm bored and Hershel had some books," Daryl says. "How you feeling?"
"I'm alright," Amy says. "Where is Andrea?" "Helping the camp packup, she seems to trust me enough to leave me with you," Daryl says. "That's because you saved my life," Amy says as she pushes his feet off the bed. "Get your feet off my bed."
"Just trying to get comfortable," Daryl says with a smirk as Hershel walks into the room.
"It seems our patient has woken up again," Hershel says. "How are you feeling, sweetie?" Hershel asks. "I'm alright," Amy tells him. "I'll be good to be moved out of here." "Yes, when your group has moved you should be fine, I'll still come over once a day to check on you, but so far, I don't see any reason you shouldn't make a full recovery," Hershel says. "Daryl, a moment." Daryl nods as he sets the book on the bed and leaves the room with Hershel. Hershel motions for Daryl to sit down at the table where there were two plates and some orange juice. "Please sit," Hershel says to the younger Dixon brother who nods as he sits. "I am going to be honest with you, Daryl. This agreement between our two groups does worry me."
"Then why did you agree to it?" Daryl asks as he begins to eat.
"Because I know it will help us but I would like to get to know your group better and I know you are the man to speak to about it." "Why me? I barley spoke with any of 'em. Just Glenn and Amy mostly."
"But you watched them everyday," Hershel says. "Am I wrong?" Daryl shakes his head. "You are not a father, someday if you become one, you will understand my worry. I have been honest with you, I hope you will show me the same curtesy."
"Most of the group, they're good people, just trying to get by."
"You said most." "My brother, he has a tendency to let his mouth and anger get in his way, but he is no threat to your daughters, I promise you that, he may be asshole, but he would never hurt a woman," Daryl says. "Shane Walsh is who I would worry about, he's a hothead, likes being in power, I'm sure you have met the type. But that isn't what makes him dangerous, it's his feelings for Rick's wife. They were in a relationship before Rick came back, if it was between your daughters and Lori and Carl, Shane would choose Lori and Carl, he will do anything to keep those two safe. Like you, Hershel. I wanna keep the people I care about safe. It ain't a big list, one of 'em is in that room."
"Thank you for your honesty," Hershel says. "Until I get to know the rest of your group better, I will stick with talking with you about our dealings if that is alright with you?"
"As long as he keep taking care of Amy. I'll do anything you need," Daryl says as he stands up and Hershel nods as Daryl walks back into Amy's room.
Glenn's P.O.V
Glenn stopped the horse in front of the pharmacy and looked at Alicia who got off hers with a smirk. "Something funny?" "Watching you handle a horse is funny," Alicia says. "Sorry, I'm not good at everything like you," Glenn says. "I'll get the hang of it, we should start looking for horses, they'll be good for the group and will help us save gas," Glenn says as he ties the horse up and taps the glass.
"Do you think this place will work?" Alicia asks Glenn who shrugs his shoulders. "It could, Hershel and his family seem to be pretty safe from the rest of the world," Glenn says as he looks at her. "I don't know, Alicia. I hope," Glenn says as he grabs the door to the pharmacy. "You get medicine, I'll get what the women need," Alicia says and Glenn nods as he walks to the back of the store. "Daryl's barley left Amy's side since she was shot." "Is there a problem with that?" Glenn asks as he puts medicine in his bag. "No," Alicia says. "He cares about her, I think it's cute." "Say that to Daryl, please," Glenn says. "You doing okay, with everything?" "A couple months ago I was getting ready for college, now I'm raiding a pharmacy, with a gun on my hip hoping the dead don't come and eat me. I'm doing great," Alicia says as she grabs a pregnancy test. She looks in the box as Glenn walks behind her.
"You mess around with someone at camp?" Glenn asks making Alicia look at him. "No," Alicia says as she tucks it in her bag. "It's for Lori."
"Oh," Glenn says. "That would be bad." "You think her being pregnant is a bad thing." "I think it could cause problems that we don't need," Glenn says. "If she is, we'll deal with those problems and keep that baby safe," Glenn says as he walks towards the door and Alicia nods as she follows him.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane was looking inside a car he had taken from the highway. "Planning a trip?" Shane turns around and looks at Merle as he stood behind him.
"Maybe, if you want you and your brother can take it, I'll even throw you a going away party," Shane says.
"It's time me and you had a talk Walsh," Merle says.
"Is that so?" Shane asks Merle who nods.
"These last couple of months, you have treated my brother and I like garbage. Now I don't care too much, I'm used to be talked down by the likes of you, but you keep treating my brother the way you are, and it would be wise of you to take that car and leave, don't want anything happening to that pretty face of yours," Merle says. "That sounds like a threat, Merle. I don't believe you are stupid enough to threaten me in that condition," Shane says. "Give me a week, then I will be just fine," Merle says. "Regardless of if you like it or not, my brother is part of this group and that means I am too, if you got a problem with it, take that car and leave," Merle growls. "I'm not going anywhere," Merle says before he turns and walks away from the officer who glares at him.
Thanks for reading. Next chapter the group finishes moving into their new home as Daniel gets closer to Senioa. As always suggestions, ideas and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
