Chapter 23-Trying to get home
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl and Rick ran through the woods. The two men get to a river and climb in. "Over there," Daryl says as he points at a hole. Daryl and Rick move over to the hole and squeeze in as they hear the men. "Where the hell did they go?"
"They probably followed the river," One of them says. "Might be doubling back, trying to get to their cars."
"We'll spread out then," They say as they move away from the hole.
"What the hell do we do?" Rick asks.
"We're gonna have to kill them," Daryl whispers. "We can't risk leading 'em back to the farm. We try to do it quietly, use my crossbow and your knife," Daryl tells the man who nods. "You ready?"
"Yeah," Rick says and he nods as they slowly leave the hole.
Glenn's P.O.V
Glenn and Hershel stopped as they hit the dirt road before the farm. "We need to get back and sent a group out," Hershel says.
"We can't," Glenn says as he pants making Hershel look at him. "We don't know where Daryl and Rick are. If we sent a group into town they could be ambushed. We need to get ready to fight, go home, Hershel, get your family and come to our farm," Glenn tells the older man who nods.
"Thank you, Glenn," Hershel says.
"Thank me when Daryl and Rick get back," Glenn says as he goes towards his farm. Hershel nods as the two seperate. After opening the gate Glenn walked down the road. He could see Andrea on the R.V and then he heard her shout. He watched as Travis and Madison came up to him.
"Where are Daryl, Rick, and Hershel?" Travis asks.
"We were attacked," Glenn says. "Hershel is alright, I don't know about Rick and Daryl," Glenn tells him as he continues to walk. "Gather, everybody, now."
T-dog's P.O.V
T-dog looked at Jim as he climbed in the truck. "Angle it so they walkers can't get past it and then climb out the passenger side, we'll pick them off from the bed," T-dog tells Jim who nods as T-dog grabs a rifle from the truck. "I'll keep them off you for as long as I can," T-dog tells Jim who nods as he goes back towards the fort. T-dog positions himself and looks down the scope as Jim drives past him. Jim gets to the gate and T-dog shoots a walker through the head as Jim starts to park the truck. He shoots two more walkers as Jim puts the truck in park and climbs out of the passenger side door. T-dog goes up to Jim.
"They'll still be able to slip through," Jim says as Lexi, David, and Chase walk up to them.
"That's alright," T-dog says. "David get in the bed, try to pick off what walkers you can, but don't get to close, they can still pull you down, Lexi and I will take this side, I'll kill them and Lexi will move them, Jim you'll kill them on the other side and Chase will move them," T-dog tells them. "Alright, let's get to work."
Rick's P.O.V
Rick and Daryl slowly walked through the woods as Daryl tracked two of the men. Daryl holds his hands up as he sees two of the men walking by the river. "Get as close as you can," Daryl says to Rick who nods as he walks in front of Daryl. Rick gets a couple feet behind the men as Daryl fires his crossbow and an arrow goes through of their heads. Rick grabs the other one covering his mouth as he stabs his knife into the side of the man's head. He throws the body on the ground and grabs the A.R. "They have heavy artillery," Rick says as Daryl walks up behind him and grabs the other A.R.
"I wouldn't be surprised if they've attacked other groups," Daryl says.
"We don't know where the rest of them are," Rick says.
"We'll take the river, try to get as close to the farm as possible then walk through the woods. Daryl says. "We cover our tracks."
Rick nods as the two men start get on the side of the river and start to walk.
Glenn's P.O.V
The group stood inside the house. Hershel's family had gotten there a couple of minutes ago. "They just attacked you?" Travis asks.
"They wanted to come to the farm and I told them no," Glenn says. "That's when they attacked us, Rick and Daryl sent us out the back while distracted them."
"So now we roll into town and kill these assholes," Merle says. "Save my brother."
"If Daryl and Rick are still in town, they aren't alive," Glenn says. "We don't know how many people are there, we could go into town and then we could all die."
"That's my brother."
"He's my best friend, Rick is Lori's husband and Carl's father. Going into town will get all of us killed, Daryl and Rick are smart."
"So what do you suggest then, Glenn? Wait here for them to come and kill us?" Merle growls.
"No, we prepare for a fight," Glenn says. "We have enough guns to defend this place, I want three people upstairs at all times, they need to have rifles and watch the field and the drive way. Dale, take the R.V but try to stay low, Merle, Daniel, and Madison, get upstairs. The rest of you, watch the fields, stay behind something," Glenn says. The group nods as Glenn looks at Merle.
"Two hours, if my brother isn't back in two hours, I don't care what your plan is," Merle says before he walks away.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl and Rick walked by the river. "Alright, let's get out here," Daryl says to Rick who nods. Daryl climbs out of the river and holds his hand out to Rick who takes it. The two begin to walk towards the farm.
"You alright?" Rick asks.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"You ever kill anybody before?" Rick asks Daryl who shakes his head.
"Don't worry, I won't be losing any sleeps over those assholes," Daryl tells him. "They're aren't going to stop."
"I know," Rick says. "Seems like we have a fight ahead of us."
Daryl nods as they walk.
Senoia
Scott sat on the hood of Glenn's car as two of his men came back. "Well?" Scott asks.
"Lucas, and Will are dead, we've lost over half of the group we came into this town with," The man tells him.
"That's alright," Scott says as he climbs down. "We still have plenty of men," Scott tells him. "Grab their weapons and let's go home, no much of a point in chasing these guys. We'll wait for them to make the next mistake," Scott tells his solider who nods.
T-dog's P.O.V
T-dog stabbed the last walker in the head. Lexi grabbed the walker pulled it out and threw it on the pile. "Everybody alright?" T-dog asks.
"Yeah," Jim says and the group nods.
"Alright, Jim move the car," T-dog tells Jim who nods as he climbs back in the truck. Once the truck was moved, Jim climbs out of the car. "Alright, we get inside, it's going to be dark soon, so we'll find somewhere to sleep and start searching the place tomorrow,"
They nod as they walk into the Fort with their weapons raised. The walk up a building and David opens the door and they slowly enter. "Find a big enough room for us all to stay in," T-dog tells the group who nods as they start to go through the building.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl and Rick walk up to the gates of the farm. "You belong with this group," Rick says making Daryl look at him. "Don't ever doubt that," Rick says as he opens the gate. "We should talk to Hershel about staying here for a little while, with that group out there, it isn't safe for his family at the farm."
"I'll talk to him," Daryl says as they start to walk down the driveway. They could see the house when they heard someone shout and the door to the house opens. Lori and Carl run down the driveway straight into Rick who hugs his family as Glenn comes up to Daryl and hugs him.
"You okay?" Glenn asks Daryl who nods.
"I'm fine," Daryl says as Glenn let's him go. "We're both fine. We had each other's back."
Daryl looks at his brother as he walks up behind Glenn. "You alright?" Merle asks his brother who nods.
"Fine," Daryl answers. "Ain't nothing Rick and I couldn't handle," Daryl tells his brother who nods as Amy pushes past the older Dixon brother and hugs Daryl.
"Are you ever going to stop doing stupid shit," Amy asks.
"Probably not," Daryl whispers as Amy pulls back and kisses him. She pulls away after a moment and leans her forehead against his.
"You're going to be the death of me, Daryl Dixon," Amy says. Daryl smirks as she pulls away and he looks at Merle who had a smirk on his face.
"Took you two long enough," Merle says. "Come on, let's get inside, get you two cleaned up and talk."
Daryl and Rick nods.
Rick's P.O.V
Rick walks out of the bathroom after showering and sees Merle. "Can I help you, Merle?" Rick asks.
"Thanks for having my brothers back," Merle says before he walks down the stairs and Rick follows him. The group gathered on the first floor of the house.
"Rick and I managed to kill a couple of them, inside the bar and in the woods," Daryl says as he sets the A.R on the table. "They're heavily armed. We don't know how many of them there are either."
"They don't know how many of us they are," Glenn says. "I don't think they saw Hershel, they know about you, Rick and I."
"Even if that is true, we don't have the weapons to fight this," Travis says. "We have some automatic weapons from the military outpost in King County but not a lot."
"Hopefully T-dog brings some back," Madison says.
"This group isn't going to stop, they know we are around and that we are somewhere safe. They want the farm," Daryl says as he looks at Hershel. "I know it's your home, but you might be safer here for a little while, you and Otis are the only two who know how to shoot. I know we've had some problems the last couple of days, but I think you should stay here until they are dealt with."
"I agree," Hershel says. "After this group is dealt with, I swear, we will deal with the barn."
"So now what?" Alicia asks.
"We prepare for a fight," Glenn says.
