Chapter 4 worst date ever

Sarah's POV

Several months have passed, and Luke and I have been dating for some time now. Most of my friends think he's unnerving because of the scare but I have loved being with him. He is always so kind and thoughtful, like today for instance. I had just graduated with my Associates and he had chosen to surprise me by taking me to the park and teaching me how to use his massive sword which he actually named, he called it Backbiter. The sword was definitely too big and heavy for me but it was fun nonetheless. Around late evening I sat on the grass watching in amazement as he demonstrated his skill with the weapon. He was incredible, the sword was a bler of motion and light in his hand. I was about to ask him where he had learned to use a sword like that, when I got the feeling that someone was watching us. I looked around but we were the only ones in the park, not that surprising since it was getting late. I looked back at Luke who seemed to sense the presence as well. I noticed that while the sword's movement had stopped he kept the point up and in a ready position. In three quick strides he was next to me and pulling me to my feet, in a low voice he said.

"No sudden moves, put your back against that tree and stay close to me, we're not alone."

My heart skipped a beat as I searched the park with my eyes.

"Luke, I'm scared who's watching us and what do they want?"

"Not who, what."

He corrected me, but I didn't understand what that meant.

"As for what they want," he said, "I don't know."

The voice inside my head yelled, LIAR! So loud it made me flinch. Suddenly Luke's eyes widened as they locked on something behind me, and he shoved me to the ground, slashing his sword where I was standing just a split second before. As I hit the grass hard I herded a hideous shriek, like nothing I had ever heard before. No sooner than I was on the ground Luke was pulling me back up again, forcing me to run. I glanced back and saw the patch of ground I had been standing on was smoking and covered in gold dust which smelled of sulfur.

"RUN! RUN LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!"

Luke yelled at me, I yelled back,

"RUN WHERE!? AND WHAT HAPPENED TO NO SUDDEN MOVES!?"

"RUN FOR THE BATHROOM DO NOT SLOW DOWN! I'LL BE RIGHT BEHIND YOOF!"

I turned in time to see Luke fall beneath some kind of creature, and go rolling with it. I couldn't see properly because it was fully dark now and the park's lights weren't working. But what I could make out scared me more than anything else I had ever seen. The beast was twice the size of Luke with demonic yellow eyes that glowed. Every hair on my body stood straight up when I heard Luke scream in pain as the thing sank its fangs into him. I froze in place, panic welled up in my chest threatening to consume me. My brain was numb with fear, Luke was still screaming, my ears were ringing making it hard to understand him. As a dark shape rushed towards me the meaning of his words finally became clear. He wanted me to run, run for my life. So I did, adrenaline and terror corset through me, lending speed to my feet as I ran. Glancing back I saw Luke throw the creature off of him and run it through with Backbiter. But no sooner than he killed it at least 10 more emerged from the bushes, 11 counting the one that had stopped chasing me and gone back for Luke. I reached the woman's bathroom, but to my horror it was locked. I screamed in fear and despair, tears filled my vision as I pounded on the door. Turning I pressed my back against it to look for Luke, he was ringed by the creatures and fighting for his life. His sword was a deadly ark not once faltering as it cleaved its way through those horrible things. Then he was running at me faster than I had ever seen someone run. Once in mid stride he turned on a dime and smacked a creature out of the air using his sword like a baseball bat. The momentum spun him all the way around and Luke kept running without a faltering in his stride. As he got closer he yelled.

"OPEN THE DORE!"

"I CAN'T!"

I sobed

"IT'S LOCKED!"

Luke growled in frustration, which only served to scare me more, if that was even possible.

"MOVE!"

He ordered. I did and he slammed into the door full speed. I heard a loud klic as Luke's outstretched hands made contact with the dore, throwing it open he shoved me inside. Slamming it behind us I herded it relock, as Luke stepped back sword at the ready, chest heaving, waiting to see if the dore held.
