Chapter5 sleep over in the bathroom

Luke's POV

I stood in front of the heavy metal door praying to all the gods it would hold. I could hear Sarah behind me. She sounded like she was on the verge of panic. I couldn't blame her though, I could remember all too well my first attack.

"Sarah, find the light switch. I need you to tell me what you see."

I kept my voice calm and controlled. Normally that sort of thing is easy for me, but I admit it's much harder after you've been bitten.

"Just don't look at me."

I added as an afterthought, I wasn't sure how bad my wound was and didn't want her passing out while standing. The lights flickered on, and Sarah's terrified voice came from my right.

"What am I looking for?"

"Windows, do you see any?"

"No."

"At least that," I breathed.

"OK, no windows are a good thing. Now without looking at me describe the room. I want every detail you can give me."

"OK, we are in a large one person restroom. Umm there's a sink."

Her voice trailed off, unsure of what else to say.

"Tell me about the sink."

I prompted, as another monster slammed against the door.

"For instance, is it automatic?"

"No, it has handles. There's a full paper towel dispenser on the wall too, with sope nearby."

"That's good, will the sink run hot water?"

"How am I supposed to know?"

"Turn it on and keep telling me about the room."

"What else do you want to know?" She asked while turning on the water.

"The mirror." I said, "is it metal or glass?

She responded more quickly this time, and I noted her voice didn't sound as scared.

"It's glass with a big crack in it."

"OK, how many lights are on the ceiling, and is there an air vent anywhere that you can see?"

"We have five lights but only three work. There are two vents, one above the door, the other is on the back wall. Both of which are too small for those things."

We went on like that until I was satisfied with her description of the room and that the monsters weren't going to break down the door. Sheathing my sword I turned to look at Sarah, grateful that she didn't seem to be hurt past a few scraps and bruises.

"Next question." I said, "are you ok with blood? I have some scratches I can't reach."

She nodded, looking up at me for the first time since we got in the bathroom. Sarah's face paled slightly at sight of me, again I couldn't blame her. If I looked as bad as felt then I was in pretty rough shape.

"How do I help?" She asked, I beckoned her to join me at the sink.

"I'll clean the wounds I can reach, just watch how I do it and copy me."

Sarah nodded, and I pulled off my blood soaked shirt handing it to her. Then I set to work on my most pressing injury. The monster that bit me took a chunk out of my shoulder as I pushed it off. After I rinsed the wound thoroughly with hot water, I got a handful of soap and worked that into the wound as well. As much as that hurt, I knew that a little extra pain now would be better than an infection. After the wound was clean I took a handful of paper towels, Wet them in the sink and applied them over the wound. Then I directed Sarah to wash my shirt and tear it into strips, so I could binde my shoulder and other injuries. After that was done I had Sarah clean the scratches on my back, when she finished I cleaned her mirror cuts and scrapes. Once that was done I started at the door trying to form a plan. Our dilemma was bringing back memories of the good old days, when it was just me Thalia against the world.

"Luke, how are we going to get out of here?"

"I'm working on it." I said, trying to reassure her with a smile. "One thing I do know is that we won't be leaving tonight. My thought is we will have a good shot once the sun is up fully in the morning. I get the feeling our friends outside won't care for sunlight, so we better make ourselves as comfortable as possible."

I really hoped I was right about the sun, despite having sought out and recruited thousands of monsters over the years. I didn't know what variety of Underworld demons we were dealing with. Even when I was recruiting monsters for Cronos I understood that some things should stay in Tartarus. Something Gia obviously hadn't agreed with.
