Chapter 7 escape from the bathroom

I really hoped I hadn't set off her power, after all I wasn't about to explain everything that had gone down. So I told the truth, just in a very vague way.

"I believe you, but I still want to go."

"Are you sure? The trip could be dangerous and I can teach you everything you need to know."

She shook her head. "It's not that I think you aren't a good teacher. I want to go so I can meet other demigods, and see for myself what this magical world is like."

"OK, tomorrow after we get out of here and clean up, we'll head straight for New York." Her face lit up with a smile, and I quickly added. "On one condition. Give me your word that you won't reveal I'm alive, no matter what."

"You have my word."

"Thank you." I said, giving her a kiss.

The next morning I prepared to fight our way out of the bathroom. First I cut the legs of my jeans, (from the knees down) and turned them into strips. Then used them as a protective wrapping for Sarah's hands. Next I took The two burned out lights, tying them together with what was left of my shirt. Once that was done I cut off the rounded end of the long lights, turning it into a point. Giving the makeshift spear to Sarah, I turned my attention to the broken mirror. After getting it off the wall I used my sword to cut it into several knife shaped pieces.

"I thought it was bad luck to break a mirror." Sarah said as she watched me work.

"Normally yes," I agreed. "However, this mirror was already broken. Now, here's the plan. It's possible that the monsters are still out there waiting for us. So I want you to stay close to me, if a monster makes it past me, stab it with the spear. If it breaks or a monster gets too close, use one of the mirror pieces to protect yourself. The Jean binding should protect your hands from getting cut by the glass. Any questions?"

She shook her head. "OK, let's get this over with, on three. 1 2 3!"

I threw open the door and stepped out, sword at the ready. I scanned the area looking for any potential threat, as movement registered in my peripheral. I swung out instant more than anything else, and was rewarded with an explanation of gold dust. Moving quickly I stepped into open sunlight, keeping my blade up and moving in small circles. More movement caught my eye, Lurking in every large shadow was a monster. They seemed hesitant to attack in the sun, but there were enough of them I knew that wouldn't last long. As we strode forward I counted the monsters, fifty were visible from our position. As we neared the closest shadow the first wave attacked, fifteen monsters surged forward. My sword rose and fell in a devastating ark, cutting through the monsters. One of my attackers, seemingly more sentient than the rest howled in rage as it tried to retreat. "IT'S YOU! WE WILL HAVE VENGEANCE!" I ran it through before it could finish threatening me. Wave after wave of monsters came. Finally, after having vaporized dozens of them the demon's apparently decided we weren't worth it. Because after one last screech they melted back into shadows. I grabbed Sarah's wrist and ran, not stopping till we were out of the park.

(2 Hours later)

Sarah was asleep on my couch, we had gone straight to my apartment after leaving the park. I treated our wounds with medical supplies I had previously liberated from a local drug store. Now as Sarah slept I made preparations for the journey to camp. As I scrolled the internet looking for cheap plane tickets, from Kansas to New York. A thought kept bothering me, there had been far too many monsters for a normal attack. Not only that one of them had obviously recognized me, I had a bad feeling that someone knew I was alive again. Sarah grunted unhappily in her sleep, and I rose to wake her from an unpleasant dream.
