Chapter 24 Names and Promises

Luke's POV

I stayed there much too long, reading the name's that were beautifully hand carved and painted. Each one was done in both Greek and Latin, also most had a short memoir attached to it. Apparently Annabeth hadn't designed this place just as a dining pavilion. It was also a memorial to all those who had fought in the wars. I even found the names of Half-Bloods who had fought under Kronos's banner. I hadn't expected them to be represented here but glad they were. I also came across two names and memoirs that didn't make sense to me.

Bob

The good Titan

and the best friend anyone could ever hope for.

We continue to tell the stars hello for you.

Thanks for everything we couldn't have survived without you.

Damison

The friendly Giant

If not for you, we never would have made it home.

Thank you for everything.

I read those two over and over yet they still made no sense to me. Finally I gave up and walked to the big house. I had left something there that I wanted back. Once inside I moved cafily to prevent the floorboards from creaking. On the second floor the light in the infirmary was on, which dashed my hopes for taking some ambrosia and nectar for the rode.

Slipping past the infirmary I climbed the rest of the stars. Skipping the third step because it always groaned like an injured dragon. On my up the last staircase I stopped when I reached the ninth step leaning over. I placed my hand on it and heard the familiar click of a lock. Lifting the top of the stair, I reached in and retrieved the only thing left inside. recessing my old hiding place, I started back down the stairs, holding the green leather diary close to my chest. As I walked I couldn't help but think the old man had been right in his predictions about Thalia and I. As I crept through the dark house memories of another kept trying to surface. I had made three promises that fateful day, and broken all of them. Now I'm determined to try again. I know that there is no hope in trying again with the promise I made to Annabeth. I had burned that bridge a long time ago, but I could try again with the promise I made to the old man. Once I was out of the Big House I went back to the dining pavilion. Where I carfly used my sword to make an addition to the names on the floor.

Halcyon Green

Son of Apollo

Thanks for the gifts, advice and your sacrifice.

You were a hero in the end.

I rose from my kneeling position, and studied my handy work. It wasn't as nice as the other names, and Hal deserved better, but it was the best I could do. I had nothing to paint it with, but that didn't matter much because now the sky was beginning to lighten. So I gathered my things and booked it for the West woods.
