Chapter 26 Loopholes are fun
Claymore's POV
Alabaster stepped forward, snapping with both hands, as he began to speak in some ancient tongue. The hair on my neck rose as I listened to the ery chant. Normally when he used an incantation he spoke in Latin and I could translate it or have a good guess at what the outcome would be. But this time was different, Alabaster was speaking in a tung far more ancient. And I could feel the power that each syllable contained. I shivered as the temperature dropped and my breath hung in the air. Color seemed to leach out of the once vibrant landscape, leaving it muted and dull. Myst billowed around Alabaster's feet, if I looked closely at it I could see fant images within. Alabaster's normally dark eyes were now alight glowing with the power he was chanling. The por tarifide boy within the cage stumbled back, trying in vain to escape as tendrils of myst curled towards him. He let out a terrified scream as the milky white myst coiled itself around his legs, and wrapped itself around his waist. I stood in horrified fascination as it continued to wrap around the boy's body. He screamed again but the awful sound was cut short as the myst entered his mouth. Alabaster uttered a final word of power, the myst pulsed turning green and the poor boy's eyes rolled back in his head as he collapsed to the ground. Alabaster sank to his knees exhausted, as everything returned to normal. I stood blinking in the restored sunlight trying to sort through my thoughts. As my young friend began to regain his feet I asked the only thing I could think of,
"What did you do?"
Alabaster swade on his feet as he answered,
"I wasn't going to make the same mistake Luke did, by leaving loose ends."
"You killed him?"
My voice sounded strange in my own ears,
"No, I didn't kill him. He's merely unconscious."
"Then what did you do?"
"I manipulated the Myst to completely erase some of his memories. He won't remember this incident and he won't remember having ever met Luke. Now I'm going to go lie down, if you would, please bring Sam inside. He may still be useful to me."
Alabaster turned, and shakeley walked back to the house. Looking far different than he did just a few minutes ago. I shook my head as I watched him slowly wobble up the steps and disappear inside. As always I was surprised and a little scared by my young friend's power and the toll it took on him. Glancing back at the unconscious boy I had the disturbing feeling that Alabaster hadn't told me the full aspect of what he had done.
