SPIDER-MAN: ALL ALONE (CHAPTER 35)
THE RAFT…
As Spider-Man approached the Lizard with its eyes opened. The Spider-sense went off immediately before the Lizard sluggishly tried to swipe at him.
"It's still tranquilised; you can do it." Yuri said behind the glass chamber.
Gwen and Yuri watched as Spider-Man nervously tried to get in close and take a biological sample of sorts.
"Easy, Dr. Connors. It's me." Spider-Man whispered as he carefully navigated around the Lizard for an opening.
"Now I understand that he's not exactly brave." Yuri noted.
"Duh. It's a giant 'dinosaur'." Gwen commented back.
The Lizard tried to fight back but the effects of both the tranquilisation and shock continued to render the beast as non-threatening.
"Okay maybe it needs a couple of pets." Spider-Man said as he breather heavily while getting close.
As the rest of the Raft staff watched in anticipation; there was a sense of unease due to their experience with how fast the Lizard recovers. Spider-Man also seemed to be stalling with how he was going to take one substantial biological sample.
"Time is not your friend; better hurry." Yuri warned.
With that warning in mind, Spider-Man decided it was now or never in regards to taking the sample. One charge, he leapt on top of the Lizard and jabbed the syringe. However, he then realised the needle could not penetrate through the scales.
"Oh no." Spider-Man said before the Lizard let out an angry growl.
The next thing Spider-Man got into had him thrown into what felt like a cowboy rodeo with Lizard attempting to shake off him. Seeing the escalation, Gwen was ready to help before Spider-Man yelled out.
"Wait! I got this." Spider-Man said as he began to string the Lizards with some webs.
As the Lizard gained momentum, Spider-Man's struggle had guards concerned as they hesitated to activate the electrical floor in case they harmed Spider-Man. Drawing his hand closer to the jaw, Spider-Man reached between the teeth of the Lizard and jabbed into whatever soft tissue he could reach.
"Argh." Spider-Man yelled as he extracted something into the syringe.
After the extraction, the Lizard finally threw Spider-Man down onto the floor. Its tail whipped around the chamber space and cracked the glass near him with strength. But before it could take a bite or a slash against him, Gwen opened the chamber and used her web to drag Spider-Man away causing the Lizard to miss.
It was then the guards activated the electrical floor and stunned the Lizard whilst the rest of the guards came in to tranquilise the Lizard further down.
"I got it." Spider-Man said holding onto the sample-filled syringe with Gwen holding onto his back.
Yuri came rushing forward and nodded in approval at the steps taken.
"Okay, let's take it to the lab." Yuri said.
OSCORP TOWER…
Outside of Oscorp, there were witnesses and reports regarding minor earthquake tremors of sorts. The nearby residential areas had been told to evacuate as well as those still within the Oscorp building.
As this happened, helicopters buzzed to observe what looked like green energy seeping out from the tower with both news and safety reports attempting to be updated. However, electrical power also seems to be at risk of cutting off forcing the helicopters to stay away.
Within the reaches of building, the out-of-control Greenwave energy enveloped parts of the building as if it was creating a new dimensional rift of sorts. And there was no answer yet with what is happening with Norman right now.
THE RAFT (HOURS LATER) …
"Alright, alright." Spider-Man said blowing the cannister of serum after it was taken off ice.
As he and Gwen hurried back to the chamber, they were greeted with the same conditions the chamber was left in during the scuffle to take a sample of the Lizard's DNA.
Opening the chamber doors, the Lizard was still unconscious as they wanted. Just a breathing and undisturbed creature for the time being. Spider-Man then got close again and left the cannister close to the Lizard's snout.
The cannister had a fishy aroma which was meant to entice the Lizard into taking the cure that was inside. As the two Spiders left, they watched carefully as the Lizard woke up and began to smell where the aroma was coming from.
The Lizard excitedly opened its jaw and pried the cannister open to consume the contents inside. Using its forked tongue, it began to lick up the serum in its usual state of hunger and made sure that its 'meal' was consumed to the last drop.
"That might be the last fish meal he'd eat." Spider-Man commented.
After the Lizard finished eating, there was a brief moment of pause.
"Something's happening." Gwen observed.
The two carefully watched before they noticed the Lizard's eye widen and the scales on him begin to shed. With one weakened growl, they saw that the reptilian features were getting replaced with more human looking features as a naked man started to emerge in place of a reptilian humanoid beast.
Gwen had to look away for obvious reasons before staring back to ensure she was just witnessing Curt being returned to human form.
Curt stood in a complete state of confusion as he examined himself. He touched the rubbery skin on his body and felt the coarse hair on his head. He then looked around and stared blankly at his surroundings and how he came to be here. Afterwards, a sudden look of realisation hit Curt and he began to break down emotionally.
"Is he really back?" Gwen asked suspicious about Curt's behaviour.
Curt was covering his face with his human hands. It was as if he regretted the destructive actions he could not control when he was in a non-human state. And that state of hurt was the answer they were looking for.
"Yes. I think he is." Spider-Man said.
