Episode 85: That's Just Swellow
Mew and her friends continue on their journey to Fortree City and they are walking across a mountain area. And soon, they spot a small village at the foot of the mountains."
"That must be Crossgate Town, right?" Max asks.
"Yep, better known as the Crossroads of the Winds," Brock says.
"That makes sense," Mew says.
Soon, the wind blows.
May sighs, "Almost makes you feel like you're flying."
Tomo then spots something and says, "Speaking of flying…" and points up, "Look up there.
Everyone soon looks up to see a Swablu flying with a ring in its beak.
"It's a Swablu," Max says.
"There's some kind of ring in its mouth.
A massive blast of wind soon blows through and sends the Swablu tumbling down to some pointy stalagmites.
"Oh no!" Jen cries out.
Mew then calls out, "Taillow, help Swablu!"
And with that, Taillow comes out, flies down, and catches Swablu, and brings it to the others on its back.
"Nice work, Taillow," Mew says.
Soon, they hear someone calling out, "Swablu!"
They all look and see the Swablu's trainer running up. A boy with dark blue hair, a yellow shirt, gray wristbands, green pants, and shoes.
The trainer calls out, "Aw, man. Are you alright?"
Swablu flies into its Trainer's arms
"Thank goodness you're okay," The boy says, relieved.
"That massive wind blows and sends Swablu tumbling," Mew says.
The boy says to the group, "Well, thanks a lot for helping it. By the way, name's Shane."
"Hi, I'm Ashley from Pallet Town," Mew says.
Taillow, Pikachu, and Eevee, introduce themselves.
"Hey, I'm May," May says.
"And I'm Max," Max says.
"My name's Brock," Brock says.
"I'm Tomo, and these are Meloetta and Skwovet," Tomo says.
"I'm Jen, and this is Amaura," Jen says.
"I'm Zinnia, nice to meet you," Zinnia sats,
"And I'm Molly. It's nice to meet you Shane," Molly says.
"Nice to meet you," Shane says and turns to Swablu, "Now, you already met Swablu."
"What's that ring for, Shane?" Max asks.
"Oh, we're using it for the PokéRinger competition," Shane says.
"PokéRinger?" Mew becomes puzzled.
Pikachu, Eevee, and Taillow are just as confused.
Mew and the others soon arrive at an open field and find hot air balloons shaped like Hoppip up above.
Shane explains, "The PokéRinger competition has been held in this area for years, we're practically known for it. Teams consist of a trainer and a single flying Pokémon. While battling in midair, each team has to get a ring hanging from a hot air balloon, then, the first team to hang that ring on a hook on the goalpost, wins."
"What an awesome game!" May says.
"So cool," Tomo says.
"So is that what you and Swablu were practicing for Shane?" Mew asks.
Shane nods, "We're planning on entering the next competition."
"That's so cool," Max says.
"It sure is," Zinnia says.
"This PokéRinger thing is a pretty big deal," Brock says.
"Yeah, for anybody around here anyway," Shane says, "And since the competition is going to start today, everybody is extra excited and getting in some last-minute practice."
"Wait, you mean today's the day of the competition?" Mew asks.
"Yeah, it starts this afternoon," Shane says.
May gets excited, "Well, in that case, I'm going to enter with my Beautifly."
"And I'm gonna enter with my Taillow," Mew says.
"Zephyr and I can enter," Tomo says.
"I can let Hoppip enter it," Jen says.
A little bit later, fireworks go off as the competition begins.
The announcer says, "Welcome to the annual PokéRinger competition! The competition this year should be a great one in my estimation, so let's get this show started!"
Up on the scoreboard, pictures of various trainers and their Pokémon are shown.
"Who are they?" Max asks.
"They happen to be the previous winners," Shane says.
"I guess if you win, you become forever famous around here," Brock says.
Then Shane says, "Not only that, the winner is made an honorary citizen of Crossgate Town, for life."
"That's cool," Jen says.
"I would love to be an honorary citizen," May says.
"It might be hard, you all never done it before," Zinnia says.
"Zinnia is right, you might have tough competition," Max says.
But then Shane says, "Actually, a lot of the winners were first-time PokéRingers."
Everyone is surprised
And then Shane says."And, to tell you the truth, today's gonna be my first time competing."
And everyone is shocked to hear it.
"Plus, I just recently caught this Swablu, so we're not much of a team yet. But, I still think we'll win because I'm determined," Shane says.
"That's the same way I see it, Shane," Mew says
"I say we all do our best and may the best trainer win," May says
Meanwhile, not far away, Team Rocket was spying on the competition.
"Let me get dis straight, all you win for foist prize is citizenship to dis crummy town? What do you get for second prize? A kick in da shin?" Meowth questions.
Jessie also questions, "What's so great about this PokéRinger stuff? Doesn't look that hard."
And James says, "Classic PokéRinger competition combines the trainer's talents and his Pokémon's ability to create an artistic and winning battle style.
Jessie and Meowth just stare with hanging jaws while sweat dropping before James remembers a point in his childhood.
James explains, "In my younger years, I had the honor to practice and train under a renowned master of PokéRinger. He thought I had what it took to be a champion."
Flashback fades:
Then James continues, "But when I joined Team Rocket, I put it all behind me and vowed to never again feel the pain of those shattered dreams. And now, that pain has returned as I stare into the penetrating eyes of...my master!"
It's revealed that James was looking at a picture of an old man with a Crobat, who was his PokéRinger coach from all those years ago.
"That crazy old geezer?" Jessie questions.
"He looks more like a potato farmer den a PokéRinger master," Meowth says.
James turns to the others and shouts, "Show some respect! My master was the first PokéRinger champion in history! Now I must follow in my master's footsteps. I shall enter into the games and not only that, I will win!"
"When you're hot, you're hot," Meowth says.
"I'll be the PokéRinger I knew I could be, master!" James says.
"Should we put him out? "Jessie questions.
"Wobbuffet!" (Let's move on!) Wobbuffet says.
Soon, the competitors are in place and ready to start.
The announcer says, "The computer will now randomly group all of our PokéRinger contestants into blocks of four teams each. Battling first, in the A block…"
The computer makes its randomized grouping selection, with Jen and Shane among them
Announcer: Here are the four teams.
May sighs in relief, Thank goodness. The last thing I wanted was to start the competition by competing against either Ash, any of the others, or you, Shane."
"Yeah, me, too," Shane says.
Then turns to Jen, "But it looks like you and I will be competing against each other.
"That's okay, may the best flyer win," Jen says.
"Thanks," Shane says.
Then announces, "And now, it's time to select the competitors for the B block.
The computer makes its second randomized grouping selection, with Mew among them.
The announcer says, "Well, this is a surprise, folks. Volt, the returning champion and a hands down favorite in this year's competition, going up against a last-minute entry, Ashley from Pallet Town.
This brought a look of shock to everyone on the sidelines.
"Oh, man, he's going up against the champ?!" Max exclaims.
"Yeah! Bring him on," Mew says, excited.
The champ, Bolt, says, "Bring me on, huh?"
Mew looks to see Volt standing next to him.
"You're in way over your head, kid. Up against the champ, you won't even make a good warmup," Volt says.
Mew crosses her arms, "Anything can happen when the battle starts.
Volt chuckles, Then maybe you should quit before things get ugly," And walks away.
"What's with him?" May asks.
"What a creep," Jen says.
Suddenly, they hear James' voice, "Consider yourselves lucky."
Everyone looks and sees James standing nearby.
"Battling him, you'll know right away if you're a PokéRinger, right?" James says.
"James?" Mew questions.
"What are you doing here?" Tomo asks.
"On your own of all things?" Jen adds.
Shane then asks, "Friend of yours?"
Mew, May, Tomo, and Jen shake their heads, "No way."
"I'm here today, but not as a Team rocket member. A am here as a competitor," James says.
"You mean, you're actually going to compete?" Mew asks.
"You heard right, little miss," James says, "You see, I was a PokéRinger once before in my life, and they called me…" He then removes his Team Rocket uniform to reveal a jumpsuit, "The Amazing James, King of the Rings!"
"Uh, whatever you say," Mew says.
May then notices, "Look, they're announcing the final team pairing."
James cries out, "I'm not ready!"
"And finally, the C block Team," The announcer says.
The computer makes its randomized team selections, with James, Tomo, and May among them.
"Here they are," The announcer says.
Most of the group was shocked to see that Tomo and May were in the same block as James.
James says, "May, Tomo, sorry about you grouped with me, now you don't have a quarter of a chance of advancing. But still, there will be no team rocket tricks, so may the best PokéRinger win," and presents his hand out.
"I guess, but I'm not backing down that easily," Tomo says, and shakes his head.
"Sportsmanship, something that you never expected from me," James says.
"Well, are you in for a big surprise," May says.
James cries out, "Why aren't you afraid of me?!"
Soon, a giant balloon goes up
The announcer says, "Ladies and gentlemen, the ring balloon has been released! Now the four A block trainers will climb to battle altitude and at the start signal, the first match of the annual Crossgate PokéRinger competition will begin!"
As the announcer speaks, the four A block trainers ascend to battle altitude in hot air balloons. Then, the start signal goes off, officially starting the competition.
Shane calls out, "Come on out, Swablu!"
Swablu comes out.
Jen calls out, "Go Hoppip!"
And Hoppip comes out.
And soon, a Wingull and a Yanma come out.
All four Pokemon head to the ring. Wingul fires the Water Gun attack. Swablu flies through it, however, before Yanma fires off Swift at Swablu, but the little Pokemon manages to evade in time.
":Swablu, don't focus only on the ring!" Swablu calls out, and feels the wind, "Climb up! The wind's coming!"
Jen calls out, "Hoppip, fly up!"
Swablu and Hoppip do so, causing the others to look in shock.
"Why did Shane and Jen give up on getting the ring?" May calls out.
Up above, Yanma makes a move for the ring, as does Wingull, but the wind blows them away from it.
"They didn't give up. They knew that wind was coming!" Brock says.
"And that means Swablu and Hoppip have a clear path to get it!" Max says.
Hoppip tries to grab the ring, but Swablu grabs it first.
"Alright! Now take it to the goal!" Shane calls out.
"Hoppip, catch Swablu!" Mew calls you.
Swablu flies toward it, despite Hoppip's attempt to intercept, and drops it right on the hook, winning the match for Shane.
Announce cheers, "GOAL! First-time PokéRinger Shane has taken the first round!""
As the announcer speaks, Shane and Swablu come up on the scoreboard.
"Oh well," Jen says, disappointed that she lost.
"It's too bad Jen lost," Molly says.
"But Shane is moving up," Mew says.
Swablu returns to its trainer.
"You were great, Swablu," Shane says.
In the next block, Volt and Mew are ready to face off, as are their opponents.
"He doesn't scare me," Mew says.
Announcer says, "And now it's time for the B block competitors to take to the sky. Will returning champ Volt make it two victories in a row? We're about to find out!"
Soon, the start signal sounded.
"Let's go, Taillow!" Mew calls out.
Taillow comes out while at the same time, a Ninjask and a Golbat also comes out.
"A Taillow, a Golbat and a Ninjask, huh? This is a joke!" Volt says, and calls out, "Go, Volbeat!
Volbeat comes out.
Volt calls out, "Knock them all out with a Thunder attack!"
Volbeat fires the attack but Taillow evades while the attack hits Ninjask and Golbat.
"Volbeat has scored a direct hit! And just like that, two of the teams are finished!" The announcer says.
As the announcer finishes his sentence, Ninjask and Golbat fall from the sky, defeated.
"That Volt guy isn't even going for the ring!" Zinnia says.
"Yeah, he's taking his opponents out of the game, first," Jen says.
"And that Volbeat can use Thunder," Molly says.
"Yeah, and it's a strong advantage against a Flying Pokemon like Taillow," Brock says.
Mew calls out, "Climb, now! Get the ring before he has the chance to attack again, Taillow!"
Taillow gains altitude and goes for the ring.
"No good, little lady," Volt says and calls out, "Volbeat, shoot it down with Thunder!"
Volbeat fires the attack and it hits.
"You can take it! Hang in there!" Mew calls out.
Through sheer force of will, Taillow forces its way out of the electrical current and gains altitude once more, shocking Volbeat and puzzling Volt.
"What? Why didn't that work?" Volt says, shocked.
Even Shane was baffled.
"How could Taillow have shaken that off? That was a direct hit!" Shane asks.
"Easy, that Taillow is quite a tough one. When we first met it, it led an entire flock of its own kind. It wouldn't go down without a fight, no matter what was thrown at it. It's a tough little bird," Jen says.
"And look, Taillow is going for the ring," May says.
Taillow soon grabs the ring.
"Just in time, now go for the goal!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu and Eevee cheer, (GO! GO!)
Taillow zooms toward the goalpost, with Volbeat flying close and alongside.
"Hit that ring with Thunder!" Volt calls out.
Volbeat fires the attack, but Taillow evades, though it's forced to let go of the ring.
"Oh, no!" Mew cries out
"Volt then calls out, "Now grab the ring, and take it to the goalpost!"
Volbeat grabs the ring with its mouth and heads to the goalpost.
Mew then calls out, "Taillow, use Wing Attack!"
Taillow performs the attack and lands hard, forcing Volbeat to let go of the ring.
Volt cries out in shock, "What?!"
Taillow quickly grabs the ring
"Good, Taillow! Head straight for that goal!" Mew calls out.
Taillow does so and scores the win
Announcer shouts, "GOAL! Volt has been defeated! What a victory for Ashley!"
As the announcer talks, Mew and Taillow appear on the scoreboard.
"Alright, Taillow stood up to those Thunder attacks!" Molly cheers.
"And it came back more energized," Brock says.
"Way to go!" Mew cheers.
Pikachu and Eevee cheer for Taillow
Taillow flies back to its trainer in triumph.
"Aw, man! How could I let a rookie punk kid like that beat me?!" Volt cries out in defeat.
Later, the C block competitors were at battle altitude and ready to begin
"Shane and Mew both made it through to the second round like I knew they would," May says.
"But now it's you and me, and of course, James," Tomo says.
James says, "Dustox combined with my skill, there's no way I'm going to lose this round."
"The C block teams are in position, so let's begin!" The announcer says.
Soon, the start signal goes off
May calls out, "Go, Beautifly!"
Beauitfly calls out.
"Go Zephyr!" Tomo calls out.
May calls out, "Beautifly, head straight for that ring!"
Beautifly does so.
"Zephyr, get there before Beautifly!" Tomo calls out.
Zephyr does so.
"Go, Dustox!" James calls out.
Dustox comes out, and Beautifly, Zephyr and a Jumpluff all head right for the ring. However, Dustox manages to grab the ring first.
"Now head for the goal!" James calls out.
"Beautifly, use Gust and blow them all away from there!" May calls out.
Beautifly launches the attack, but only Zephyr and Jumpluff are caught.
"Zephyr, try to find a way out!" Tomo calls out.
"That was quite helpful of you, May!" James calls out, "Now, ride that Gust right down to the goal, Dustox!
Dustox does so and manages to put the ring on the hook, bringing a look of disbelief to the faces of Tomo, May, Zephyr and Beautifly.
The announcer cheers, "GOAL! Cleverly using his opponent's own attack, James and his Dustox have won the round!"
"Thank you!" Thank you!" James says.
Dustox says, "Dustox." (Thank you.)
May says in disbelief, "Wait, what just happened?"
"Did we just, lose, to James?" Tomo adds, just as shocked.
Down bellow, Mew and the others are shocked to see James has beaten both May and Tomo
"Wow. I can't believe James beat both of them," Zinnia says.
"I know, but it was very clever of James to have Dustox use Beauitfly' Gust to reach the goal," Brock says.
"I gotta admit, James is a pretty good PokéRingers after all," Shane says.
"You're right, but I still have a feeling that he can't fully be trusted," Mew says, "His teammates, Jessie and Meowth are probably around here, planning something."
Not far from the playing field, Jessie had set up shop with a stand
Jessie announces, "Come on! Step right up and give your Pokémon a fabulous massage to relieve its stress! After a hard day of flying, it's just the thing to restore Pokémon's energy! Take a look!"
A curtain rises to show Meowth in disguise as a Wingull and saying 'choip'
"Wouldn't you like your Pokémon to be as relaxed as this one?" Jessie says.
Soon, one trainer says, "Sure, would you mind giving one to my Golbat?"
"And maybe my Skiploom after that," Another says.
"Step this way please," Jessie says.
Then whispers to Meowth, "Is the net ready?"
Meowth quietly says, "Ready and waiting for a flock of flying Pokémon."
"Wobbuffet!" (After the competition!) Wobbuffet says.
Back at the competition
The announcer says, "We have seen some fantastic battles in this competition. Ashley and Shane, competing as PokéRingers for the first time, have reached the semifinals! Along with James, who has progressed beautifully, as well. We'll now move on to one on one battling."
The computer soon pairs Ashley and Taillow against another trainer and their Skarmory. Inside the hot air balloon prep building, Mew and Shane were talking.
"I can't believe it, can you?" Shane says.
"Yeah, it's really cool that we're in the semifinals together," Mew says, "Now, let's both win, then we can face each other in the finals."
A while later, Skarmory had grabbed the ring and was making a beeline for the goal with Taillow right on its tail feathers.
Mew calls out, "Go, Taillow! Grab that ring!"
Taillow darts in and WHAMS right into Skarmory, taking the ring in the process.
"That's it! Now head for the goal!" Mew calls out.
Taillow does so, scoring the victory.
Announcer shouts, "GOAL!"
"Alright! We're in the finals, Taillow!" Mew happily says.
Pikachu and Eevee happily cheer.
A bit later, James and Shane were competing.
The announcer says, "The start signal for this semifinal battle went off eight minutes ago, but neither James nor Shane have moved a muscle!"
"Why are they both just standing there?" Molly asks.
"Beats me," May says.
"I think they're both waiting for the wind to be just right to make their move," Zinnia says.
"I think you're right," Brock says.
Shane and James continue to wait for the attack.
Shane says in thought, "The wind's been flat for a while, we're due for a good, strong breeze any second now."
James says in thought, "He's waiting to climb with the wind, but there's something about the way that cloud is moving."
Soon, the wind picks up and sends the ring balloon upward.
Shane calls out, "Do it!"
"Go!" James calls out.
Both Swablu and Dustox start climbing.
"They're both using the updraft to climb up to the ring balloon more quickly!" The announcer says.
"You're almost there, Swablu! Get to that ring and grab it!" Shane says.
James, meanwhile, sees the clouds moving
James calls out, "Dustox, stop!"
Dustox does so
"Huh? But why?" Mew wonders.
"Why did James tell Dustox to stop where it was?" Tomo wonders.
Soon, the clouds part and the light of the sun blinds Swablu, shocking everyone on the ground and Shane.
"Swablu!" Shane calls out.
"Dustox, Tackle now, while it's blinded!" James calls out.
Dustox rams right into Swablu, sending it reeling while Dustox grabs the ring and takes it straight to the goalpost without any interference.
Announcer calls out, "GOAL! That brilliant use of the sun has brought James into the finals!"
"Ah, my master would be proud," James says.
"Dustox." (Sure would.) Dustox says.
"Man, James is very clever," Zinnia says.
"And that was a sneaky trick," Molly says.
"Yeah. James is really good," Jen says.
"And now James and Dustox are up against Ashley and Taillow," May says.
Up above, Shane was comforting Swablu.
"Don't worry about it, Swablu. You were great, you deserve a rest," Shane says.
Then says in thought, "Alright, Ash. It's up to you, now."
"Get ready, Ashley, you're going down, next!" James says and laughs confidently.
"We'll see about that," Mew says.
Meanwhile, with Jessie and Meowth…
"See? We weren't lying, they are much more relaxed now," Jessie says.
Soon, they see that Jessie and Meowth's little massage session is a plan to capture the Flying Pokemon and trapped them in a net.
"There's something about a net that really helps calm you down," Jessie says.
"Let's blow dis popsicle stand before dose trainers come back!" Meowth says.
"Right. Go get James and make it snappy," Jessie says.
Meowth salutes, "Yep! Roger dat!"
A bit later, the final match is about to begin as the ring balloon goes up.
Announcer says, "The ring balloon has been released and both PokéRingers are in position! The final round of the PokéRinger competition is underway!"
Suddenly, he hears Meowth's voice, "James!"
James looks down and sees Meowth signaling him with flags from the top of the scoreboard.
"Meowth? What are you doing?" James asks.
"Mission accomplished. Your orders are ta retoin to Jessie at once and prepare for escape," Meowth says, he signs what he says in flag waves.
"What?! Are you kidding?! No way am I leaving now!" James says, and gets out flags and starts signing what he says in flag waves, too, "I'm in the finals, you blockhead! You'll have to wait till I win!"
"We're here to steal Pokémon, not for you to show off! I repeat, rendezvous wit me and Jessie immediately! Dat's an order!" Meowth says.
But James says, "I am not leaving until this battle is won! I have to fulfill my destiny! Becoming a great PokéRinger like my master before me! Understand?!" And throws one of his flags at Meowth.
"Ow!" Meowth yelps in pain, "James, you are so gonna pay for dat!"
"Let the match begin!" The announcer says.
Right as the announcer speaks, the start signal goes off.
Mew calls out, "Go, Taillow!"
Taillow then comes out.
James does the same, "Go, Dustox!"
And Dustox comes out.
"It's a battle of Taillow's spunk against the skill of Dustox, folks!" The announcer says.
Soon, James calls out, "Now, Dustox, Psybeam!"
Dustox fires the attack and hits Taillow hard.
"Direct hit!" Max cries out.
"Hang in there, Taillow!" May calls out.
Above, Mew calls out, "Come on, you've got to break free of it!"
Taillow manages to do so
"What an incredible escape from that Psybeam by the little birdy who could!" The announcer says.
James and Dustox were in shock.
"Taillow, Wing Attack! Mew calls out.
Taillow performs the attack and hits Dustox hard.
"No, Dustox!" James cries out.
"Grab the ring, Taillow!" Mew calls out.
Taillow goes to do so, but Dustox starts to pursue.
"Can Dustox catch up before Taillow grabs the ring?" The announcer says.
Soon, the wind starts blowing.
And the announcer announces, "Wait, the wind's picking up!"
"Watch out!" Shane cries out.
"Dustox, move away from there!" James calls out.
"Taillow, move out of the way!" Mew calls out.
Dustox does so, but Taillow gets blown back and away by a tornado that engulfs the ring balloon.
"Taillow!" Mew calls out.
Announcer says, "Unbelievable! A flash tornado has appeared, the sort of weather phenomena that Crossgate Town is famous for!"
"I was afraid one would be coming sooner or later, but this is really bad timing," Shane says.
"No way either of them will get the ring, now," Max says.
"That wind is too strong," Jen says.
"They'll have to wait for the tornado to clear out," Brock says.
James says to Dustox, "Listen up, Dustox. The second that tornado clears, you head for the ring."
"Dustox," (Roger.) Dustox says.
"I'm not just gonna sit here and wait for the weather to clear up, that's exactly what James will do and expect me to do, too," Mew says.
Then turns to Taillow, "It's a risk, but do you think you can handle it?"
"Taillow!" (I know I can!) Taillow says, determined.
"Then let's go, Taillow!" Mew calls out.
Taillow flies straight for the tornado and goes right into it, everyone is shocked.
"Ashley has sent her Taillow straight into the tornado! Is she crazy?!" The announcer says.
"Think you can battle that wind, huh, twerp? That's a rookie mistake!" James says.
"Dustox." (Foolish.) Dustox says.
Taillow fights against the gale-force winds.
"You can make it. Remember, I believe in you, Taillow," Mew calls out.
Inside the tornado, Taillow spots the ring balloon, but gets blown back down.
"Don't give up yet! Come on and show us that same fighting spirit just like the day we met!" Mew calls out.
Hearing Mew's voice, Taillow lets out a final loud shrill before a bright glowing light covers its body, one that everyone saw within the tornado. Mew, Eevee, and Pikachu are shocked to see it.
"Taillow?!" Mew says, shocked.
Taillow's body morphed until it got bigger and its wings got broader before the glow faded to reveal a new Pokémon.
Taillow has evolved into a large, dark-blue avian Pokémon with a red breast and face. A crest of feathers sweeps back from the top of its head. A blue stripe separates the red markings on its head and chest, and it has a white underside. It has small, narrow eyes, a pointed, yellow beak, and red feet with black talons. Each foot has three forward-facing toes and one pointed backward. Two long, pointed feathers with red tips from its tail. And its wings taper to a sharp point.
This has James worried, "Uh oh."
"Tox?" (What?) Dustox says, shocked.
Down in the grandstand, everyone was equally surprised.
"Wow!" Molly says.
"Taillow evolved!" Brock says.
"It's a Swellow now!" Max says.
"Awesome!" May says.
"She and Swellow can win this!" Tomo says.
"Go get em!" Zinnia says.
"Yeah!" Jen says.
"Cool!" Mew says, "Alright, Swellow, go capture that ring!"
Pikachu and Eevee cheer in their language, (Go get em, pal!)
Swellow does so as its wings glow and while doing a corkscrew spin.
"Swellow has charged back into the tornado with some newfound strength and a corkscrew Wing Attack!" The announcer says.
In mere moments, the tornado dissipates.
"It's closing in on the ring!" The announcer says.
Right on cue, Swellow grabs the ring and dives straight down.
"It's diving for the goal and the victory!" The announcer says.
Then James calls out, "Hurry, Dustox, stop it with Poison Sting!
Dustox starts dogging Swellow and fires the attack. Swellow side steps, but some of the pins graze its underside before Dustox flies right into Dustox to make Swellow drop the ring.
"Alright! Hurry and grab it!" James calls out.
Then Mew calls out, "Get it back, Swellow!"
Both Pokémon race each other to the ring.
"Come on, Swellow!" Shane calls out.
"Go faster!" May and Jen call out.
"It's mine, now!" James calls out.
"Swellow, use Wing Attack on the ring!" Mew calls out.
Swellow does so and swats the ring away right before Dustox could grab it, allowing it to hook right on the goalpost.
"What an incredible shot! And an unbelievable goal!" The announcer cheers.
As the announcer finishes, Dustox rams right into the goalpost
And with that, the announcer says, "What a victory for Ashley and her Swellow!"
"Alright!" Mew cheers.
Pikachu and Eevee cheer, "Pika Pika!" (Swellow did it!)
Swellow returns to Ash's balloon.
"You were awesome, Swellow," Mew says and gets out her Pokédex.
Dextette says, "Swellow, the Swallow Pokémon, and the evolved form of Taillow. A Normal and Flying Type. Swellow uses its impressive dive-bomber speed and its large talons to capture its prey."
"I'm sorry, master. I was so close, but I failed you," James says, dejected.
As the group celebrates, Jessie is heard cackling with Meowth.
"You guys hear that?" Shane asks.
They all soon see the Meowth balloon taking flight with the captured Pokémon underneath. And they begin the motto, with Meowth doing James' part.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble as we steal and split.
Meowth:
Make it double as we get away wit it!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation.
Meowth:
To unite all peoples within our nation.
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love.
Meowth:
To extend our reach to da stars above.

Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light.
Meowth:
So surrender now or prepare to fight!
Wobbuffet:
Wobbuffet! (That's right!)
"Jessie and Meowth!" Mew questions.
"Pika Pika!" (I knew they were here!) Pikachu says.
"Eevee!" (Why am I not surprised?!) Eevee adds.
Soon, Mew spots the net with the captured Pokemon, "Hey! Those are Pokémon who competed in the tournament!"
Down on the ground, the competitors who were eliminated were making a dash for Team Rocket's balloon.
Each trainer cries out, "Hey! That's my Golbat!" "What's the big idea!" "Give me back my Skiploom!"
Up in the sky, Jessie and Meowth were trying to pull a weeping James into the balloon basket.
"Quit blubbering over your second place standing and get in here," Jessie says.
"We gotta make our escape!" Meowth shouts.
Mew calls out, "Go, Swellow, use Wing Attack!"
Swellow does so and cuts the net, freeing the Pokémon. The Pokemon soon return to their trainers, who are relieved.
"Now, Pikachu, Eevee, Thunderbolt!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu and Eeevee perform Thunderbolt, blowing Team Rocket out of the area.
James wails, "I failed!"
"So did we, what else is new?" Jessie says.
"Not dis," Meowth says.
Team Rocket calls out, "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
Later that evening, the winner's ceremony is underway.
The announcer says, "Congratulations to Ashley, this year's winner of the annual Crossgate Town PokéRinger Competition and the new honorary citizen of Crossgate Town!"
"That was really great," Brock says.
"You and Swellow were great!" Tomo says.
"Way to go," Molly says.
"That might've been your best win ever," May says.
"That was a real surprise when Taillow evolved into a Swellow," Max says.
"Yeah. It caught us all by surprise," Zinnia adds.
Jen nods, "Yeah.
"You guys make a great team, Ashley. No one here could ever deny that the best PokéRinger won today," Shane says.
"That's cool of you to say, Shane. Thank you," Mew says.
Then turns to Swellow, "He's right. We make a great team, Swellow."
"Swellow." (You got that right.) Swellow says.
Mew and Swellow look to see that they're both added to the scoreboard among the previous champions. Of course, they have a new photo since Swellow evolved from Taillow.
In the midst of competition, Taillow has evolved into Swellow, helping Mew chalk up a victory in one of her most demanding battles. Reminded once more of the value of teamwork, Mew and her friends leave the PokéRinger competition and Crossgate Town triumphant, and once again, set out for Fortree City.
