Chapter 68

Code of Victory

"Gladia ….Gladia!" The duelist snapped out of her thought and looked down at her impatient partner.

"Huh?" She looked a bit confused.

"It is still Gladia's turn! Pay attention!" Jackal stated.

"Oh, sorry. And no worries," she assured. She looked over the field. She currently had four monsters on the field while her opponent, Codebreaker had none on his side.

"I continue my turn," she said. "Now open! The circuit of the warrior's heart!"

A Link Square portal opened in the middle of the field in front of her. "The summoning condition is two Gladiator Beast monsters. I set my Gladiator Beast Retairi and Spartacus in the Link Markers!" The two humanoid beast warriors entered the bottom-left and bottom-right arrows. "Link Summon! Appear! Link-2! Gladiator Beast Dragases!"

A humanoid eagle wearing a red armor carrying a sword appeared in the Extra Monster Zone while its ATK increased to 2500, due to the effect of her Field Spell.

"Is that her ace monster?" Blue Girl asked. "It is only Link-2 monster."

"It may be Link-2, but she must have summoned it for a reason," Ghost Girl noted.

"Then, I fuse my Gladiator Beast Augustus with Octavius!" Her two monsters turned into red and green twisters, merging into one purple twister. "Fusion Summon! Reappear! Gladiator Beast Tamer Editor!" The humanoid deer monster reappeared as it summoned next to Dragases' bottom-left arrow while its ATK increased to 2900.

"It came back!" Ai exclaimed.

"And thanks to my Pendulum Monster's Pendulum Effect, I get to add two more cards from my Deck to my hand. Then, I play the Equip Spell, Gladiator Beast's Battle Archfiend Shield, and equip to Dragases, set one card face-down, and I complete the Pendulum Scale with my Scale 9 Gladiator Beast Provocator!"

On the opposite side, another pillar of light appeared with a second Pendulum Monster. This one was a battle-scarred rabbit with one eye crossed, wearing a gold helmet and armor with a short sword and square-shaped shield with a red cross on it. Its long ears went through the holes of the helmet.

Gladiator Beast Provocator-Level 4, Scale 9, EARTH, Beast-Warrior/Pendulum/Effect, 1500 ATK, 1000 DEF.

"Her Pendulum Scale is completed. So that means….?" Ai said.

"With Scales of 2 and 9, she can Special Summon as many monsters as she wants with levels between 3 and 8," Playmaker explained.

"So that is how Pendulum Summon works?" Soulburner asked.

"Indeed it is," Flame nodded. "Though, I admit that this will be my first time seeing it."

"With this, I can summon monsters with Level from 3 to 8. Let me show you, Codebreaker. The power I hold!" She exclaimed as a giant pendulum appeared above her as the two Pendulum monsters have a number appeared just beneath their feet. "Swing, the pendulum of my soul! Swing over the arc of light! Pendulum Summon! Appear! The legendary dragon with heterochromia eyes! Odd-Eyes Data Pendulum Dragon!"

A giant stream of light shined down and crashed on the ground, creating dust of smoke. Everyone covered their eyes as it was too bright, so bright that it shined throughout Link VRAINS.

Meanwhile, at the SOL Tech security center, the computers and servers were going haywire.

"What is going on?" Akira asked in distress.

"Sir! We do not know for sure, but the system is going crazy!" One of the techs stated.

"Find out the cause!" Akira demanded.

"Sir! It is coming from Link VRAINS and it is the same thing that happened just not too long ago!" The other tech explained.

"Could it be?!" Akira said in surprise.

"Sir?" Hanabi said with a concerned look.

"It must be the Legendary Code!" Akira exclaimed. "Find it and send out our bounty hunters!"

"Yes sir!"

Back in Link VRAINS, the legendary dragon appeared once again. It roared powerfully that it echoed through the virtual world, causing everyone to wince and holding on.

"What a roar!" Soulburner yelled.

"So this monster is one of the Legendary Codes? It's… amazing! I don't know why, but something about it feels so…. Powerful," Blossom Star said.

Ghost Girl and Blue Girl watched from a safe distance, but even they could feel the powerful aura emanating from the dragon.

"This monster… Its Link Sense is off the chart!" The fire Ignis couldn't believe his eyes.

"I know, right?! It feels the same when Codebreaker summoned that Utopia Data in that past duel some months ago!" Ai remembered.

"So this is the second Legendary Code… Odd-Eyes Data Pendulum Dragon," Codebreaker saw the very beast in front of him.

"Master Yu, be careful. This is where the duel begins," Rossy said.

"Odd-Eyes Data Pendulum Dragon's effect says that its name is treated as Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon while face-up on the field, Graveyard, or face-up in the Extra Deck. Since it is not a Gladiator Beast monster, it doesn't gain any benefit from my Field Spell," Gladia said. "I end my turn here. Now, show me what you can do, Codebreaker! Let's see if you can beat me and this monster!"

Odd-Eyes roared as if it was saying the same thing as Gladia did.

Gladia (6h): 4000 LP

"This isn't good at all! Gladia has three monsters with more than 2000 ATKs! Any of them could wipe Codebreaker's LP to zero!" Ai pointed out.

"Also to remind ourselves." Silver Wing spoke up. "There is also that Trap Card, Gladiator Beast's Prison on the field. As long as that's on the field, he won't able to summon any monsters from his Extra Deck."

"To also add, Gladia has a hand advantage," Flame added. "The fate of this duel will be determined by Codebreaker's next draw."

'I have three monsters with over 2000 ATK. Anyone of them can finish him off, and if he does something, I have my face-down set. Everything is going well, according to the plan. Though, it wasn't always like this…'

- Flashback: 4 months ago –

"Shut up! All of you! Stop laughing!" Diana yelled at the rival gang members, but they continued to laugh at her.

It was the middle of the duel. She was dueling against the rival gang leader, Hana and they have her grandparents as hostages. However, her opponent was acting strange.

"Calm down, Diana!" She looked down at the white eyeball in her Duel Disk. This was the eyeball form of Jackal, the mysterious White Ignis.

"This is all your fault, you know!" Diana accused at Jackal. "Look at what I've gotten into!"

"You Diana did not heed to Jackal's warning. This is not Jackal's fault, but yours," he replied.

"What did you say?!" Diana complained.

"Now, listen!" Jackal interrupted. "That human over there is not herself! She is under some kind of control. If you want to save the two elderly humans, you must do what I say!"

Diana didn't feel agreed to that, but their argument interrupted when their opponent spoke up. "Are you going to resume the duel or declare surrender?" Hana asked.

"Tch!" Diana gritted. "I'll deal with you later! I continue my turn! I play the Spell Card, Double Summon! This card allows me to Normal Summon a monster the second time this turn. I summon Gladiator Beast Andal! Due to my Field Spell's effect, it gains 100 ATK."

On her side, a blind black bear in a blue armor appeared as it roared with 2000 ATK. "I set a card and end my turn!"

Diana (2h): 3400 LP

"Excellent. I draw." Hana drew a card.

Hana (4h): 4000 LP

Diana looked at Hana with a distinct look. 'What? Did she say 'excellent'? She doesn't talk like that often. Maybe what this little white eyeball is telling the truth?'

"Appear. The circuit!" A link square portal appeared in front of her. "Arrowhead confirmed. The summoning condition is one non-Link Traptrix monster. I set my Traptrix Atrax to the Link Marker."

Atrax entered the bottom link arrow, turning it red. "Link Summon. Appear. Link-1. Traptrix Sera." In the Extra Monster Zone, a cute, short girl with green hair in a curly pigtail style appeared as she smiled, presenting with 800 ATK.

"It's just an 800 ATK Link Monster. What's that thing can do?" Diana said mockingly.

"Never judge the book by its cover," Jackal noted.

"Shut up!" Diana demanded.

"I play my set card, the Continuous Trap, Traptrix Trigger." The Trap revealed and it showed three people; a blue knight, orange goblin, and green goblin inside a Venus flytrap that they accidentally trigged as they tried to get out while Traptrix Dionaea snickering in the background. "I can only activate this card if I control a Traptrix monster in the Extra Monster Zone," Hana revealed.

"Next, I Normal Summon Traptrix Dionaea." Just at Sera's bottom Link Arrow, another girl appeared. This one had a long black hair and wore a white skirt, red clothes, red bandana on her left arm, and two green Venus flytraps attached on her head, using them almost like a hair clip for her hair.

"Traptrix Dionaea's effect activates. When this card is Normal Summoned, I can target 1 Traptrix monster in my Graveyard and Special Summon it in Defense Position. I target Atrax and Special Summon it in Defense Position." Next to Dionaea, Atrax returned with a sinister giggle.

"Then, the effect of Traptrix Trigger activates. If the Traptrix monster's effect is activated, this card inflicts 200 points of damage to the opponent's Life Points," Hana explained, which surprised Diana.

The card shot purple lightning at Diana, shocking her and giving her pain.

"Aaaaaah!' She screamed in pain.

"Brrraaawwh!" Jackal was affected, too.

Diana (2): 3400 – 200 = 3200 LP

"This pain… It feels real!" Diana exclaimed.

"Traptrix Sera's effect activates. When the Traptrix monster's effect is activated, I set one Hole Normal Trap Card directly from the Deck." Hana set a card face-down next to the one already set from her last turn. "Then, you are damaged by an additional 200 points."

She was shocked again, causing her more pain. The shock almost made her collapse

Diana (2): 3200 – 200 = 3000 LP

"I overlay my Level 4 Atrax and Dionaea to create the Overlay Network." Diana blinked as Hana's Duel Disk shot out a bolt of energy that created a black cross above her. Hana's Traptrix girls disintegrated into data and entered two red dots at the center. The ends of the cross fired beams of light, which intersected at a single point on the floor, creating a spiral galaxy-like portal. "Xyz Summon. Appear. Rank-4. Traptrix Rafflesia."

The new monster summoned was a young girl with flowing red hair and wore a red dress with petals that looked like the Rafflesia flower for design. She was summoned in Defense Position next to Sera's bottom arrow, two lights circling behind her, but strangely, a foul smell covered the entire room.

"I end my turn," Hana finished, not affected by the smell unlike the rest of her gang.

Hana (3h): 4000 LP

"Eww! What is this smell?!" One of the gang members complained as they covered their nose and mouth.

Diana covered her nose and mouth, too. "It is that monster!" Jackal exclaimed.

"Excuse its smell. Traptrix Rafflesia is based on the real-life parasitic flower called Rafflesia flower. Its smell is a very foul kind that researchers say it smells close to a rotten flesh," Hana admitted.

"Rotten flesh?!" One of the gang members gasped as their faces turned dark with disgust and sweated with fear.

"Ewww… I don't feel so good!" Another member's face turned green as he covered his mouth. "Urrmph!"

"Rotten flesh or not, I can deal with it and kick your ass!" Diana stated. "I draw!"

Diana (3h): 3000 LP

"I summon Gladiator Beast Laquari!" A humanoid tiger in red-orange armor appeared with a ring of flame behind it. It roared strongly, etching for a fight as its ATK increased to 1900.

"Diana." She looked down at her Duel Disk. "Be aware. Do not go head-on like the last time or you will face grave danger."

"I know what I'm doing, eyeball. You don't have to nag me about it," Diana chastised.

"I'm not nagging you. Jackal is helping you," Jackal stated.

"Just let me do things that I must do, OK?" Diana said, ignoring the Ignis. "I declare Gladiator Beast Laquari to attack your Traptrix Sera!"

Laquari jumped in for an attack on the green-haired girl with its sharp claw in flames. Laquari slashed Sera in half in flames, damaging Hana's Life.

Hana: 4000 – 1100 = 2900 LP

"Kick that!" Diana cheered to herself, but then realized that the target monster was still on the field as her eyes blinked. "What?! But how?!"

"Traptrix Rafflesia effect protects other Traptrix monsters I control, except itself, from being destroyed by battle or card effects," Hana revealed.

"No! This can't be real!" Diana complained.

"But it is," Hana noted, causing the other gang members to laugh at Diana again for her second mistake.

"What a moron!" "She is so pathetic!" "Loser!"

Hana felt angry, but mostly embarrassed and admitted that they were right. She shrugged off that thought and continued. "I don't care because I… I activate my monster's effect! I end the Battle Phase and activate Laquari's effect! At the end of the Battle Phase, if it attacked or was attacked, I can shuffle it to my Deck and then Special Summon one Gladiator Beast monster from my Deck."

"I shuffle Laquari and Special Summon Gladiator Beast Octavius!" Laquari disappeared from the field by burning itself in flames and out of the flames, a new warrior appeared in its place. This one was a humanoid bird with a golden ring behind its head and wore a shiny greenish-yellow armor. "Since Octavius is Special Summoned from my Deck, my Field Spell gains another counter, meaning my monsters' ATK and DEF increased by another 100 points!"

Her two monsters' glowed in the yellow aura as their ATK increased to 2100 and 2700 respectfully. "Octavius' effect activates! When it is Special Summoned by the effect of a Gladiator Beast monster, I target one face-down Spell or Trap Card in the Spell & Trap Card Zone to destroy it! I choose the one on your left!"

"Traptrix Rafflesia's effect!" Hana declared, interrupting Diana during her turn. "I detach one of its Overlay Units to activate its effect. Once per turn, I send 1 Hole Normal Trap Card that meets its activation condition from my Deck to the Graveyard to make this effect be that Trap Card's effect when it is activated."

"Say what?!" Her opponent gasped with eyes widened in shock.

"I send the Trap Card, Void Trap Hole." She showed the card briefly and send it to the Graveyard. "And I activate it immediately. When my opponent Special Summons a monster or monsters with 2000 or more ATK, it negates the effects of 1 of those monsters with 2000 or more ATK, and if I do, destroy it. Gladiator Beast Octavius' effects are negated, and it is destroyed."

Octavius cried as it exploded. "No, Octavius!" Diana screamed.

"Then, Traptrix Sera's effect activates. If other Traptrix monster's effect is activated, I can set one Hole Normal Trap directly from my Deck." She set a card, having a total of two set cards in the Spell & Trap zones.

"Additionally, my Continuous Trap, Traptrix Trigger will deal you more damages."

Suddenly, purple electrical energy surged through Diana, shocking her. "Aaaaaaahhh!" She and the Ignis screamed in pain.

Diana: 3000 – 200 – 200 = 2600 LP

Diana laid down her knees, feeling pain from the shocks. She couldn't feel like she could stand anymore.

"Oh, look at that? I wonder what's wrong with her?" One of the gang members snickered.

"I think she's out of fuel!" Another member joked.

"Or maybe she is short-circuited!" Another one laughed.

"No matter what you do, you cannot win. Any moves you make will just set any traps I lay on you," Hana stated. "Your only option is to declare surrender and give me the Ignis."

"What?" She said in surprise.

"Surrender and hand me the Ignis. I know it is in your duel disk. Hand it to me and then you can have your grandparents back," Hana stated.

Diana thought to herself. If she gives up here and gave her Jackal, then she could get her grandparents back and safe, and get out of here, but was that right? She was feeling tempted to hand over Jackal to her.

"Diana! Diana!" She snapped out of her thought. "Can you hear me, Diana, or did the shock damage your eardrums?"

"I can hear you! What do you want?" Diana snapped.

"Jackal knows that Diana has lost some Life Points, but Diana can still win this duel!" Jackal assured.

"Easy for you to say! I'm the one who's dueling here!" She complained but looked doubtful and frustrated. "But, from the look of it, I don't think I can win. I'm too rusty and I don't know what I need to do next!"

"Stop, Diana!" She looked at the Ignis as it looked back with a serious expression. "If Diana can't think to win the duel, then she must use and trust instinct to win!"

"Instinct? What are you talking about? I am not an animal!" Diana stated.

"Trust your heart and let your instinct guide you," Jackal advised.

Diana thought to herself for a moment. Without even thinking, she got back on her feet, ignoring the pain, and looked straight at her opponent.

"Hey!" She yelled and pointed at Hana. "I don't know who or what you are, but I'm going to kick your ass in this duel, and get my grandparents back as well as make you stop mind-controlling Hana! Also, I won't hand you the Ignis if it's the last thing I do!"

The mind-controlled Hana gritted her teeth, looking a bit disappointed, but sighed.

"I continue my turn! I declare Gladiator Beast Andal to attack your Traptrix Sera!" She declared as the armored bear attacked the green-haired girl.

"Due to Traptrix Rafflesia's effect, Traptrix Sera cannot be destroyed by battle," Hana reminded as her monster didn't become destroyed and she didn't wince from the damage. "And due to the effect of Traptrix Trigger, 200 points of damage is inflicted on you."

Diana: 2600 – 200 = 2400 LP

Hana: 2900 – 1300 = 1600 LP

"I set a card and end my turn," Diana said, ending with a set card.

Diana (1h): 2600 LP

"My turn. I draw," Hana said.

Hana (4h): 1600 LP

'Even though she has three monsters, all of them lower ATK points than my Gladiator Beast Andal's attack. Also, she has lower Life Points than mine. I just have to survive this turn!' Diana thought.

"I play the Quick-Play Spell, Forbidden Lance," she declared. "I target one face-up monster on the field and until the end of this turn, that target loses 800 ATK, but is unaffected by the effects of other Spell and Trap cards."

A golden lance appeared and staved right through Andal, causing it to roar in pain as its strength weakened.

"Oh crap!" Diana cursed.

"Now that your monster's ATK is lowered, I can destroy it. Initiate battle. I declare Traptrix Dionaea to attack your Gladiator Beast Andal." Green roots sprouted underneath Dionaea. The roots grew into a Venus Flytrap, and it munched Andal in whole and destroyed it.

"Aaaah!" Diana screamed as she got damage.

Diana (1h): 2400 – 400 = 2000 LP

"Next, Traptrix Sera attacks you directly." Sera shot a beam of bubbles at Diana as each bubble popped around her, causing a strong soundwave each time it popped while she tried to protect herself.

Diana (1h): 2000 – 800 = 1200 LP

"Then, I activate my Trap Card, Drain Life Hole." One of the set cards flipped up, revealing a cyclone-shaped hole with bunches of souls swallowing into the hole, and interestingly, three particular souls resembled the knight, orange goblin, and the green goblin looking all terrified. "If my monster attacked my opponent directly and their Life Point is lower than mine, then you are inflicted by 800 points of damage."

The Trap card shot powerful lightning at Diana, shocking her and making her scream in pain. Her scream echoed through the warehouse.

Diana (1h): 1400 – 800 LP = 600 LP

"Are Diana OK?" Jackal asked.

Diana wanted to insult Jackal, but instead, she gave a small smirk. "A lot of pain, but I'm alright."

"Then, your pain will end soon." Diana and Jackal looked at Hana as she was up to something. "Now, open the circuit!" A Link square opened above Hana. "Arrowheads confirmed. The summoning condition is two non-Link Traptrix monsters. I set my Traptrix Rafflesia and Dionaea."

The two Traptrix's swallowed into the arrows, the bottom-left, and bottom-left arrows. "Link Summon. Appear. Link-2. Traptrix Angler!"

The new Traptrix monster appeared and replaced Rafflesia's spot in the Main Monster Zone. This one was a much older girl in adulthood. Her hair was long, big, and curly dark brown hair. Her hair partially covered her eye, only revealing her left eye which was dark brown for the color. She had an antenna on her head with a glowing white light at the tip. Her body was a voluptuous type in a black dress with an open chest area and nipple area opened.

Traptrix Angler-Link 2, EARTH, Fish/Link/Effect, 1600 ATK, Link Arrow: Bottom-Right, Bottom-Left

"A new Traptrix Link monster?" Diana said.

"Don't get distracted, Diana! Stay sharp!" Jackal warned as Diana paid attention this time.

"Traptrix Angler's effect activates," Hana declared. "Once per turn, I can send 1 set Normal Trap Card from the field to inflict 600 points of damage."

"Say what?!" Diana gasped.

"No!" Jackal yelled.

"This is the end for her!" The gang exclaimed. "Finish her, boss!"

"This is your end and the Ignis is back in our hands! Traptrix Angler, use Light Blast!" The bulb on the antenna brightened, releasing an orb of light that flew towards Diana.

The light exploded, causing a smoke around where Diana stood.

"Alright! The boss won!" The gang members cheered.

When the smoke was cleared, Diana was still standing with half of her Life Points. This surprised Hana and the gang members.

Diana (1h): 300 LP

"But how? How did you survive?" Hana asked, almost in a computerized voice.

"I activated my set card, Gladiator Heroic Shield." She pointed her hand at the flipped-up card. It was a Quick-Play Spell that showed Gladiator Beast Andal jumping in front of an attack, protecting a helpless Hanewata in the direction of the attack. "If I were to take effect damage by monster's effect, then I can remove from my play one Gladiator Beast monster from my graveyard to halve the damage. I had a feeling that you would do something, so I waited for the opportunity!"

"I see…" Hana looked very displeased. "Even so, you will still be damaged from the effect of Traptrix Trigger." Electrical energy shocked Diana, lessening her Life Points.

Diana (1h): 300 – 200 = 100 LP

"Good job, Diana! Diana is not half bad!" Jackal praised shortly. "However, we are still in trouble. Your draw will determine the outcome of this duel. If you don't draw the right card, Diana loses, and Diana doesn't get your old human guardians back!"

"I know that. And don't forget that if I lose, you will be taken away, too," Diana reminded him.

Jackal looked a bit confused. "Huh? Jackal thought that Diana didn't care about Jackal…"

"Yeah, well… You kind of grown on me a bit. Whoever or whatever you are, you're the most helpful, supportive person or being that I've ever met. You on my side make me feel like I've regained something I lost a long time ago. So, don't you feel worried! I will win this to save you and my grandparents!"

"Diana…." Jackal felt incredibly pleased and then roared. "Rrrraawwwwww! Then, let's shred this enemy and show your power!"

The top card in her deck glowed brightly. "What's this?!" Hana looked shocked.

"My turn… I draw!" Diana drew her card, creating an arc of light when she did. She slowly looked at the card and then grinned. "I play the Spell Card, Monster Reborn! I resurrect a monster from either player's graveyard! I Special Summon Gladiator Beast Octavius!"

The humanoid bird warrior appeared as it flapped its wings gloriously. "Then, I activate my Trap Card, Gladiator Naumachia!" Her last set card revealed Gladiator Beast Vespasius on a purple aquatic vehicle with its sword held high as if it was charging into a battle on the water. "While I control a Gladiator Beast monster, all monsters my opponent controls must attack, if able. Not only that, but once per turn, I can shuffle 1 Gladiator Beast monster from my hand or graveyard into the Main Deck, and then target 1 Gladiator Beast monster I control so that it gains ATK equals to that shuffled monster's original DEF until the end of this turn."

Hana's eyes widened as the gang members also realized it. "I shuffle Gladiator Beast Attrox. Now, Gladiator Beast Octavius gains 2000 points to its ATK!"

Octavius's body became muscular as aura glowed in yellow through its body.

"It cannot be…. I have miscalculated…" Hana whispered to herself, not sounding herself.

"Time for payback!" Diana announced. "I declare Gladiator Beast Octavius to attack your Traptrix Angler!"

Octavius flew high up to the ceiling of the warehouse and then flew straight down at Traptrix Angler. She was cut in half before she exploded, causing a strong powerful blow wind. It caused Hana to be flown off and landed on her back.

Hana: 0 LP

Diana WINS!

"Bo…Boss! She lost!" One of the gang members cried, which prompted all of them to run off.

"Grandma! Gramp!" Diana ran over to them. She pressed a button, which caused the chain hook to move down. "Hang on! I will un-chain you both and we'll get out of here!"

While she did that, Jackal exited out of the duel disk and checked to see Hana. He noticed all the cards in her deck was flown off from the duel disk, but when he looked over them or had a chance to take a closer look, all the cards turned gray, rendering them to be unused. Soon, he went back into the duel disk when the culprit woke up.

"Uhh… What happened? Where am I?" She asked, looking dazed.

'After I dueled Hana, I managed to save my grandparents. It seemed like Hana couldn't remember about the duel and everything that happened. What Jackal did say about mind-controlling was true, but either way, the police came and arrested Hana and her gang, and essentially, she never bothered me or anyone else. I thought my life would be easier from now on, well minus that I have a talking AI with a free-will living my duel disk, but it was just a beginning…'

- Present Time –

Gladia watched as her opponent will start his turn. Codebreaker was standing still with his face partially hidden. Everyone watched with anticipation.

"This is not too good for Codebreaker," Playmaker noted. "Currently, Gladia controls three monsters with total ATK of 7900."

"She also has one card face-down, probably a trap," Soulburner said.

"Adding that, she also controls the Field Spell, Colosseum – Cage of the Gladiator Beasts, which gains a Counter every time a monster is Special Summoned from either player's deck and when it does, Gladiator Beast monster's ATK and DEF are increased by 100, and the Continuous Trap Card, Gladiator Beast's Prison, which as long as her field spell is on the field and has four or more Counters, Codebreaker cannot Special Summon any monsters from his Extra Deck," Flame explained.

"What's worse that she also has two Pendulum Monsters in the Pendulum Zones, so she can summon as many as monsters with Level between 3 and 8," Blossom Star added.

"And what's even worse than that is she controls a Legendary Code on the field, Odd-Eyes Data Pendulum Dragon!" Ai exclaimed.

"Not to mention that Codebreaker has no monster on the field. If he doesn't do something in his next turn, he will lose!" Silver Wing stated.

"By the look of it, Codebreaker is at a major disadvantage," Blue Girl added.

"His draw will determine the outcome of this duel," Ghost Girl said. "We'll just have to see what will happen next."

"Now, come at me, Codebreaker! Try and face me!" Gladia barked at him.

"Ku… Ku… Ku! Hahahahahahahahaha!" Codebreaker laughed whole-heartedly, surprising everyone, especially his opponent.

"What's so funny?" She demanded.

"Sorry, sorry. It just that I've never had this much fun since my last toughest duel!" He admitted. "But, on the serious note, no matter what happens, I will turn this table around and make a come-from-behind victory!"

Gladia smirked. "Let's see about that!"

"My turn, I draw!"

Codebreaker (3h): 1200 LP

"I Special Summon C# Bit Raider!" A cybernetic warrior that dressed like a Viking warrior appeared as it waved its battle-ax. "If I control no monster on the field, I can Special Summon this card. Then, Trap opens! C# Data Transfer!"

His set card flipped up, showing data of C# Download Knight transferring into a new folder on the cloud website and it showed the progress bar on Gagaga Girl's mobile device. "By targeting one C# monster on my side of the field, I send it to my Deck and reshuffle it. Then, I add one new C# monster from my Deck to my hand. I send my C# Bit Raider back into my Deck!"

His monster disappeared as it turned into data particles, absorbing into his deck. "I add C# Download Knight and I summon it to the field!" The warrior of the C# clan appeared with its sword ready. "When C# Download Knight is Normal or Special Summoned, I can Special Summon one Level 4 or lower C# monster from my Deck or graveyard. I Special Summon Level-3 C# Raid Magician Girl!"

Next to Download Knight was a slender young woman. She wore like what a typical magician would wear, along with a blue, red, and gold mask. Her outfit showed a bit of cybernetic to it, indicating that she was part Cyberse.

C# Raid Magician Girl-Level 3, LIGHT, Spellcaster/Effect, 800 ATK, 800 DEF.

"Since you, Special Summoned a monster from your deck, Colosseum gains a counter!" Gladia reminded as her Gladiator Beasts' ATK increased again by 100.

Gladia: Field Spell – 6C

"I activate C# Raid Magician Girl's effect!" He declared. "If she is Special Summoned, I can add one Ritual Spell Card and one Ritual Monster from my Deck. I add C# Coding Ritual and C# Pixel Paladin."

"He's planning to Ritual Summon," Gladia noticed.

"Awesome! If the Ritual Summons, it won't be affected by the effect of Gladiator Beast's Prison!" Soulburner exclaimed.

"I play the Ritual Spell Card, C# Coding Ritual!" The outline on his suit glowed in blue color as the blue seal appeared with seven blue flames around it. "With this card, I can Ritual Summon a C# Ritual Monster by sacrificing two or more monsters whose total Levels equal to or greater than the monster I Ritual Summons!"

Two of his monsters turned into data particles, absorbing into the bigger flame in the middle, burning it strongly.

"Contract has been made. The two souls are offered, and it will bring forth a mighty warrior with a blade of courage and a magical touch! Ritual Summon! Rise! C# Pixel Paladin!" The flame disappeared, revealing a monster born out of it. It was a female warrior in a heavy blue and white armor, wielding a sword made up of data pixels.

"A Ritual Monster? That's smart," Ghost Girl commented with a grin. "Ritual Monster isn't summoned from the Extra Deck, so it isn't affected by Gladiator Beast's Prison."

"I think Codebreaker can turn this table around!" Blue Girl said confidently.

"Clever move, Master Yu. By Ritual Summoning a monster, you were able to bypass the effect of Gladiator Beast's Prison," Rossy noted.

"Grrr! Jackal admits that Ritual Summoning is the only weakness of the effect of Gladiator Beast's Prison card," Jackal admitted.

"Yup! But I am not over!" He replied as he picked out a card from his hand. "I play the Spell, Cyber Input Code!" The card showed unconscious Dark Magician Girl sleeping inside what appeared to be a pod and that pod was connected to a machine with a computer that showed Cyber Magician Girl and uploads progress bar at 50% completed.

"What's that?" Gladia asked.

"I'll explain it to you!" Codebreaker replied. "By targeting a Cyberse-Type monster I control on the field and sending one Cyber Magician Girl monster from my Extra Deck to the graveyard, that target gains ATK equal to the sent monster's ATK until the end of this turn."

"Say what?!" She gasped.

"No way!" Jackal said in surprise.

"I send Cyber Valkyrie Magician Girl to the graveyard from my Extra Deck!" His monster turned into a data particle as it swallowed into the abyss and it caused Pixel Paladin's sword to glow in multi-color as its strength increased to 4500 ATK.

"C# Pixel Paladin has higher ATK than all of her monsters!" Ai pointed out.

"His monster's ATK can go higher," Playmaker stated.

"Battle! C# Pixel Paladin attacks Gladiator Beast Dragases!" Codebreaker exclaimed. "I activate C# Pixel Paladin's effect now! If it battles a Link Monster, it gains 500 ATK for the target monster's Link Rating!"

"Gladiator Beast Dragases is a Link-2 monster. Therefore, C# Pixel Paladin gains 1000 ATK, increasing it to 5500 ATK," Rossy explained shortly.

"Gladiator Beast Dragases has 2600 ATK. C# Pixel Paladin can destroy it," Blossom Star affirmed.

"Yeah! Go and get her, Codebreaker!" Silver Wing cheered.

"You won't get away this easily!" Gladia shouted. "The effect of Gladiator Beast's Battle Archfiend Shield activates! If the equipped monster would be destroyed, then I destroy this card instead!"

"But you still gain damages!" Codebreaker countered. "Go, Pixel Paladin! Use Pixel Cross-Slash!"

Pixel Paladin slashed Dragases to make a character, but Dragases used its shield to block the attack, causing a shockwave of sound that hit Gladia and made her wince.

Gladia (6h): 4000 – 2900 = 1100 LP

"However, I am not done yet!" Codebreaker stated strongly. "I activate C# Pixel Paladin's additional effect! During the Battle Phase, if she attacked, I can Special Summon one Link Monster from my Graveyard to point to this card, and then this card can attack again for the second time! Appear! Cyber Valkyrie Magician Girl!"

This worries Gladia and Jackal as a version of Cyber Magician Girl on Pegasus appeared.

"If this attack goes through, then Codebreaker wins!" Blue Girl noted.

"Go, Codebreaker!" Soulburner cheered.

"He's burning very brightly!" Flame commented excitedly.

"Go, C# Pixel Paladin! Attack Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Pixel Cross-Slash!" He declared as his ace Ritual Monster held its sword high at the dragon. However, Gladia made a sly smirk.

"I admit. You got me on this, Codebreaker, but you're not good enough!" Codebreaker's eyes widened. "Trap opens! Negate Attack!"

C# Pixel Paladin's attack stopped in midway and returned to normal position.

"Oh, come on! He got her so close!" Ai complained.

"Phew! And I thought I got you, but I enjoy this duel and I admit that I don't want to end it soon. I end the battle," Codebreaker said.

"I agree. Anyhow, I activate Gladiator Beast Dragases' effect!" Gladia declared. "At the end of the Battle Phase, if this card battled, then I can return it to the Extra Deck and Special Summon two Gladiator Beasts with different names from my Deck. I return it and Special Summon Gladiator Beast Retiari and Laquari! When Laquari is Special Summoned by the effect of the Gladiator Beast monster, its original ATK becomes 2100. Plus, my Field Spell makes my Gladiator Beasts even stronger!"

Gladia: Field – 8C

"I set a card and end my turn," Codebreaker said, finishing his turn. "And this point, C# Pixel Paladin's effect resolves. Therefore, her ATK is returned to normal."

Codebreaker (1h): 1200 LP

"This is even worse now! Gladia has four monsters, and they're much stronger due to the effect of her Field Spell!" Ai exclaimed.

"But at least he managed to take away most of her Life Points. They are about equal now." Blossom Star pointed out.

"Too bad your last attack didn't get through. If it did, I would've lost, but now you know how much I prepared for this rematch," Gladia said.

"I got to say that you did your homework well, Gladia, but that doesn't mean it is over yet!" Codebreaker countered.

"I guess so, but I think I see the end very soon. I draw!" She responded with a draw of card from her Deck.

Gladia (7h): 1100 LP

"I set my Gladiator Beast Beastiari and Laquari in the Link Markers!" The two monsters turned into twisters, sucking into the arrows on the Link Square portal. "Link Summon! Rise again! Link-2, Gladiator Beast Dragases!"

Dragases returned in the Extra Monster Zone with boosted 2800 ATK. "I set a card and battle! I declare Gladiator Beast Tamer Editor to destroy your Cyber Valkyrie Magician Girl!"

"If this attack hits, Codebreaker loses!" Soulburner exclaimed.

"I activate my Trap Card! Cyber Backup!" The flipped Trap showed Cyber Heart Magician Girl partially turning into a data particle as she was being absorbed into a Deck in the cyberspace. "If Cyber Magician Girl monster is targeted for an attack, then I shuffle it into my Extra Deck to negate the attack, and gain 400 Life Points!"

Tamer Editor staved right through Valkyrie, but she turned into data particles in time and disappeared as its card shuffled back into Codebreaker's Extra Deck.

Codebreaker (1h): 1200 + 400 = 1600 LP

"I won't leave you un-scarred! I activate Gladiator Beast Provocator's Pendulum Effect!" Provocator's body lightened up with a glowing light.

"She's activating its Pendulum Effect!" Ai stated.

"After the Battle Phase, if Gladiator Beast monster didn't inflict battle damage nor destroy a monster, you're inflicted 300 points of damage each!" Provocator's sword unleashed a yellow sword beam that sliced through Codebreaker, causing him to agonize in pain.

Codebreaker (0h): 1600 – 300 = 1300 LP

"Then, I destroy your C# Pixel Paladin with Gladiator Beast Dragases!" Dragases flew over and attacked Pixel Paladin with its sword. Their swords clashed, but Dragases overwhelmed Pixel Paladin with its power, destroying her and causing Codebreaker to grit his teeth.

"I activate C# Pixel Paladin's effect!" Codebreaker exclaimed. "When it is destroyed and send to the graveyard, I can either add one of the Ritual Materials or the Ritual Spell Card from the graveyard to my hand. I add C# Raid Magician Girl to my hand."

Codebreaker (1h): 1300 – 300 = 1000 LP

"As the situation shows, the field is now empty, allowing her last monster, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon to direct attack," Rossy noted.

"Codebreaker's field is empty! Now, that Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon can attack directly!" Silver Wing stated.

"Yeah, exactly what Rossy said! This is no good!" Ai cried.

"This is finally it! Your Legendary Code is mine, Codebreaker! Odd-Eyes, attack his Life Points directly!" She commanded as her dragon fired a powerful breath attack.

"I activate Kuricipher's effect from my hand!" He showed the card, which was a monster that resembled like Kuriboh, except this one had a square-shaped body with digital zero for the eyes and several cubes wrapped together that act like its claw hands and feet.

"I remember that card! He used it when we dueled before," Blue Girl remembered.

"By revealing this card from my hand and sending it to the graveyard, if I would take damage from battle or card effect, I negate all damages until the end of this turn!" He said as Kuricipher appeared in front of Odd-Eyes' attack, blocking it and ultimately sacrificing itself.

Gladia grit her teeth, but smirked. "Well, it seems like you will live longer than I expected, but at least now I know I will win in my next turn. I set a card and end my turn."

"Rroooawr! Keep going like this, Gladia, and your victory is assured!" Jackal roared.

Gladia (6h): 1100 LP

Ai wiped off his sweat. "Phew, that was close."

"However, Codebreaker is at a great disadvantage. Worse than the last situation. If he doesn't draw the right card, then he will lose," Flame pointed out.

"Right," the Playmaker agreed. "He would need to pull a miracle."

"A miracle?" Blossom Star repeated, looking nervous and worried.

"According to my calculation, there is a 99.9% chance that you would lose this duel, Master Yu," Rossy admitted.

"Then, that other 0.1% means I will win this duel," Codebreaker said with confidence in his eyes. "No matter what, we will get through this, Rossy!"

He laid his fingers on the top card of his deck. "My turn. Draw!"

He slowly showed the card to himself, revealing to be a Spell Card. 'Yes! The right card!' He thought excitedly. "I summon C# Raid Magician Girl!"

The cybernetic magician girl appeared on his side. "C# Magician Girl's effect activates! If she is Normal Summoned, then I can discard one Spell Card to destroy one Spell or Trap Card on the field."

"Wait, what?!" Gladia gasped.

"If he does that, then that means…!" Silver Wing exclaimed.

"I destroy your Field Spell, Colosseum – Cage of the Gladiator Beasts!" The field spell shattered, turning the surroundings back to normal.

"Not so fast! I activate Colosseum – Cage of the Gladiator Beasts' additional effect!" Gladia declared. "If this card would be destroyed by a card effect, I can discard 1 Colosseum – Cage of the Gladiator Beasts to prevent the one on my field from being destroyed!"

"Noooo! Now Codebreaker does lose!" Ai cried.

"Codebreaker!" Blossom Star shouted as everyone else was shocked, including Ghost Girl and Blue Girl.

"That would work if I didn't do this!" Codebreaker said. "I activate the Quick-Play Card I just discarded! Cyber Hack Card!"

The said Spell revealed itself, showing a corrupted version of Cyber Magician Girl card being traded to a young male duelist by a shady-looking green goblin in a black hood.

"If a monster's effect is negated by a card effect, then I can remove from play this card and one Cyber Magician Girl monster from my Extra Deck to negate that effect! However, after this card activation, I cannot Link Summon any monsters, except for the Cyber Magician Girl monster! I banish this card with Cyber Valkyrie Magician Girl!"

"No! Impossible!" Gladia said in shock.

"Now, the effect of C# Raid Magician Girl continues!" Codebreaker said as the Field Spell destroyed, causing all the Gladiator Beasts' ATK lowered.

"With the Field Spell, Colosseum – Cage of the Gladiator Beasts gone, the Trap Card, Gladiator Beast's Prison is also destroyed," Rossy said as she was correct when the said Trap Card shattered.

"Now Codebreaker can able to summon monsters again from his Extra Deck!" Silver Wing noted.

"Now I input the code to the circuit of hope!" The Link Square portal appeared above him. "The summoning condition is one Spellcaster-type monster. I set my C# Raid Magician Girl to the Link Marker!"

His monster turned into the blue twister, absorbing into the bottom arrow. "Link Summon! Appear! Link-1, Cyber Magician's Apprentice!" A new Link Monster appeared in the other Extra Monster Zone. This one looked like a chibi-version of Cyber Magician Girl with an oversized hat that was too big for her head and her hair was light bluish-green.

Cyber Magician's Apprentice-Link 1, LIGHT, Spellcaster/Link/Effect, 100 ATK, Link Arrow: Bottom.

"Cyber Magician's Apprentice's effect activates!" He declared. "Once per turn, I can Special Summon one Cyber Magician Girl monster next to this card's link from my Extra Deck with its effect negated! I Special Summon Cyber Magician Girl!"

Apprentice summoned a portal, which the original Cyber Magician Girl came out with a wink and pose.

"His ace monster finally showed up," Ghost Girl said.

"Now, I open the circuit for one more time!" The Link Square portal appeared again. "The summoning condition is at least three LIGHT monsters. I set my Link-4 Cyber Magician Girl to the Link Markers!"

His monster split up into four copies of itself, all-absorbing into the arrows. "Link Summon! Appear! Link-4! Cyber Knight Magician Girl!" The knight version of Cyber Magician Girl appeared in the replacement of the original one. "It's time to battle! Cyber Knight Magician Girl, attack Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"

"But, wait Codebreaker!" Blossom Star shouted. "Your monster is weaker than her!"

"Do not worry." She looked at Playmaker. "Codebreaker knows that."

"Cyber Knight Magician Girl's effect! During the Battle Phase only, if there is no other monster next to her Link Markers, then she gains 1000 ATK!" The sword burned in flames.

"Even so, I will have just 100 Life Points left if I would get damage, but that won't happen!" Gladia said. "Trap opens! Mirror Force!"

"What?! Mirror Force?" Playmaker gasped.

"That's the same card Revolver has!" Ai exclaimed.

"When my opponent's monster declares an attack, this card destroys an opponent's Attack Position monsters! Too bad for you, Codebreaker, but I have won this duel and the bet!" Gladia stated.

"That's unfortunate. I think you might have to re-check that," Codebreaker said, making Gladia looked at him confusingly. "If Cyber Magician Girl is used as the only Link Material for this card, then Cyber Knight Magician Girl is unaffected by Trap Card during the battle."

"In other words, Mirror Force is unaffected," Rossy noted.

"No!" Gladia realized, but it was too late.

"Not only that, but Cyber Magician's Apprentice's other effect activates! If the Special Summoned Cyber Magician Girl monster is used for Link Summon during the same turn, then the Link Summoned monster gains an extra 500 ATK!"

Cyber Knight's sword burned even brighter and stronger as her ATK increased to 3500.

"Go, Cyber Knight Magician Girl! Finale Soul Blaze Cleave!" Cyber Knight Magician Girl jumped high into the air and sliced down Odd-Eyes in half.

Odd-Eyes split in half and then exploded, causing Gladia to fly off and land on her back.

"Aaaaaaaaaaahhhh!" She screamed.

Gladia: LP

Codebreaker WINS!

"Darn it! I lost!" Gladia complained, but couldn't help and smile.

"Need a hand?" Codebreaker offered a hand for her. She looked at his hand for a moment and smirked as she accepted his help.

"Well, I lost again and this time greatly," she said as she took out a card. "Here. This is for you."

Codebreaker looked at the card, which is Odd-Eyes Data Pendulum Dragon. As he raised his hand to accept it, he backed-out.

"No, it's fine. You can keep it." His response surprised everyone.

"What?! After going through all those troubles, you won't accept it?!" Ai yelled.

"But Master Yu, you won the duel and the condition of the duel was the winner gets the other's Legendary Code," Rossy said.

"I know that, but something tells me that's best for Gladia to have it for a while. I can sense something important about this card to her, so I cannot take it now," he said.

"Codebreaker…" Gladia was a bit speechless until they noticed something was coming towards them.

They looked and saw two bounty hunters coming their way.

"Uh oh! It's SOL's bounty hunter goons!" Ai exclaimed.

"They must have detected us when Odd-Eyes was summoned. Due to it caused a major shockwave through Link VRAINS when it was summoned," Flame said.

"We should log-out of here!" Soulburner suggested.

"Well, Codebreaker." Everyone looked at Gladia, who was already on her D-Board. "I'll let you go this time. I hope to have another rematch with you soon. See ya!"

She flew off to the distance.

'Gladia…' He thought.

Gladia flew through Link VRAINS, becoming further and further away from Codebreaker and his friends. She looked at Odd-Eyes Data Pendulum Dragon card.

- Flashback: 4 Months ago -

"Diana," said her grandfather as he, grandma, and Diana sat together at the table after finishing eating dinner. "I want you to have something."

"What is it, Gramp?" She asked.

Her grandfather walked over to a cabinet. He opened one and took out a small box. He opened the lock on the box and took out a wrapped paper.

"Here," he said as he handed it to her.

"What is this?" She said as she unwrapped the paper. When she did, it revealed one card.

"Odd-Eyes Data Pendulum Dragon?" She read. "A dueling card?"

"It used to belong to your father." Her eyes widened. "After he passed away, he wanted to give you this when you are ready and I think that time has come."

"When I am ready?" She repeated.

"We don't know what he meant by it, but we had the feeling that you will need it some day. We kept it for safekeeping as part of his will," he explained.

- Flashback Ends-

'Like I said, after that duel with Hana or whoever was controlling her, my journey was just the beginning and it all started with this card, this Legendary Code. If I collect all the five Legendary Codes, then I can find out what happened to my dad and why he wanted to give this to me!' She thought strongly as she rode on her D-Board far into distance.

- Codes of Secrets –

"And that's what happened today for me," Yu said.

"Wow! That's quite a story," Tom said as they both were in the basement room and eating cup ramen. "Gladia sure gave you a run for the money and almost close to beating you."

"It was very close indeed," Rossy said, showing up in her Ignis form out of the duel disk.

"But, all well ends well! Though the next time I see her, it may be going to be tougher. I do enjoy dueling her!" He grinned.

"Well, at least you enjoyed your day. Mine was quite…hectic to per se," Tom said as he sweat-dropped, looking a bit stress-out.

"Well, I think I'm going to take a walk around outside. See you later, Tom," he said as he took Rossy with him.

"Um, OK. See you later," Tom said.

Yu walked around the street of Den City's downtown area. However, little did he know that he was being followed by a strange black car.

It approached him, which made him stop and take a look. That was when one of the men came out of the car, and grabbed him.

"Hey, what are you… Mmmm!" The man covered his mouth with a handkerchief, causing Yu to suffocate until he fainted. He fell asleep and put into the car before it drove away.
