Alright it was done to the wire but I managed to get all the chapter edits done and posted for this story before I had to post this chapter. Last Chapter the Midoriya family at the Sports Festival and Inko and Eri meet with the other teacher in their viewing booth. While Izuku and Ochaco became making their way to Class 1-A. Now it's time for the Sports Festival beyond.
But first, I during December I came across the limit for Google Docs. Was working on writing the Mid-term exams when suddenly no more letters were appearing on the docs. And after checking the word count for the doc, I found in total I had 640 pages.280426 words excluding spaces and1514836 including spaces. So if you ever come across a trivia questions relevant to this information now to have it. I had to go back to the first page and delete everything up to this chapter to continue writing
Beyond that, as always I do not own MY HERO ACADEMIA or any of their characters.
With that, let's start off with a bang.
As the elevator glided down Ochaco turned to Izuku and said, "Family through and through.' How long has that been going on?"
"Since the USJ attack, we started doing it every time I left for school. It was my way of reminding her that I'll always be there for her and I'll always come back to her." Izuku said as he continued to look forward, watching as the number for the floor level slowly went down.
"I think it's cute that you do something like that with her. Give you a special kind of bond." Ochaco said as she thought about all the times she wished she had a younger sibling. However, that train of thought always ended when Ochaco reminded herself that if she had a sibling then her family would have been even more strapped for money.
"Hey, this Saturday, I was planning on taking Eri to the beach to play in the water. Bakugo's already agreed to come along, I'm wondering if you would like to tag along." Izuku asked as he looked over at Ochaco and bumped her with his elbow.
"Would it just be us three?" Ochaco asked.
"My mom for parental guidance." Izuku said, in a mocking tone, "But I'm thinking about asking some of our classmates. It would be a chance for us to celebrate and relax from all the training we've done for this festival."
"Then yes and I'm sure that Tsuyu would love to come along," Ochaco said as the elevator dinged and the door opened. Allowing Ochaco to go first, with Izuku a step behind her. They walked through the crowded stadium until they turned down a hallway that held all the waiting rooms for the first years. They walked until they came across a door that had 1-A on it and Izuku opened the door and let Ochaco go first.
Everyone was changed into UA's sports uniforms so Izuku and Ochaco disappeared into the changing rooms to join them. As Izuku walked out he did a quick head count. He only got 19, so he did another quick head count, this time noticing Hagakure. "Alright it seems like we're all here, good."
"Man, I wish I could have worn my costume," Mina said as she dropped her head. It would have hopefully caught the eyes of pro heroes, but Mr Aizawa had told the class that the hero course wasn't allowed to wear their costume. At least she was allowed to wear her costume-made shoes.
"Then everyone would be at a disadvantage, at least this way we're all on even ground." Ojirou said, but Bakugo snickered, "In a manner of speaking."
"I'm just worried about what they have planned for the first event. That's when most are dropped." Sato said as he crossed his arm in stress.
"Whatever they have planned, we must all work to do our best to meet our teacher's expectations." Tokoyamki said, and everyone nodded in agreement.
"Midoriya," Todoroki said, calling out the purple and green-haired kid.
"Yeah, Todoroki, you need something," Izuku said, turning in his seat to face the other dual-haired students. Suddenly the tension in the air became thick and everyone looked between the two of them. Neither Izuku nor Todoroki moved, they just stayed still looking at each other not speaking, testing their mental might against each other's.
Finally, Todoroki broke the silence, "From an objective standpoint, it's clear that my quirk is stronger, however, you were able to beat my dad's entrance score." It was obvious Todoroki was taking a dig at Izuku
"Not that I was really trying, but yeah." Izuku said, returning the favor.
"But not All Might's. It is my mission to beat All Might and that begins by beating you here in the Sports Festival." Todoroki said as he looked down at Izuku.
"Are you declaring war on me?" Izuku said with an amused voice, "Then I accept your challenge. Your quirk is stronger, I'll give you that, raw strength and all, but then again you haven't exactly been giving it your all." Several members of 1-A were taken aback by that, as they hadn't realized Todoroki's full power, "Sure you can turn a building to ice, but you haven't exactly been turning up the heat and I've got you beat there. I packed some extra red dye bullets for you, I'm looking forward to the chance of fighting against you."
"We're not here to be each other's friends, just make sure you don't lose before you face me in the third round." Todoroki said, then turned away and walked out of the room.
Everyone turned to Izuku who sighed and said, "Come on, we need to get ready."
Out in the crowd surrounding the first-year stadium, Mt Lady would give anything to be in the stadium in one of the seats and be able to watch the festival. Yet since she was a new pro hero, she hadn't received any tickets, so she had accepted the position of security guard with the hope of slipping out of her duties and watching the Sports Festival. Yet with her luck, she had been placed with DeathArms and Kamui Wood, as they had before encountered the heroine before they kept a close eye on her. Thus she was stuck with staying on duty with no chance to escape.
The entire morning UA's campus was busy with spectators and news stations. Within a few minutes, she was extremely bored. She eventually turned to DeathArms and Kamui Wood in hopes of sparking up a conversation, "So what do you think of the first years, 1-A was in the news a few weeks ago."
"Yes, I recall the article about the attack. League of Villains, dumb name for a dumb group." DeathArms said as he overlooked the crowd, "Thinking they could kill All Might, let alone defeat him."
"You forget the students of 1-A didn't sit around, many of them faced villains on their own. Their class representative even held their own against Nomu and Shigraki." Kamui Woods said.
"Kid's lucky they're not dead, it took All Might a few punches to bring the creature down. Heard the kid was rushed to emergency surgery and their injuries were so bad that not even Recovery Girl's quirk could do too much." DeathArms said.
"Disappointing too as they're most likely still recovering. I would have liked to see what kind of fight they were capable of." Kamui Woods said as he brushed some leaves from out in front of his eyes.
"Yeah even then, who's to say they would even be able to give a good fight from their more permanent injuries. Nomu's strength and Shigaraki's decay easily could have left injuries that Recovery Girl won't be able to heal. Scars like those aren't just for show." DeathArms said.
A horn went off, drawing everyone's attention to the stadium. "Seems like it's starting." Mt Lady said, wishing her quirk allowed her to shrink instead of grow. Then it would be easy to disappear.
"Hey, everyone makes some noise." Present Mic said as he appeared on the giant TV that was above the stadium's main entrance. The ensuing noise from the stadium was deafening even to those outside, "Get your cameras, phone all manners of recording devices prepared and ready to go, as this year we're bringing you some of the hottest performances in sports history. I just have one question before we begin, "ARE YOU READY?"
Mt Lady had to cover her ears as everyone around her began cheering at the top of their lungs, only adding to her headache from being out in the sun all morning. She groaned as she pulled out her water bottle, which may or may not be filled with water and took a drink.
Present Mic began listing off the different classes as they walked out onto the field. Starting 1-A and ending with 1-K. Once all the classes were announced the screen switched to Midnight standing on a small platform. Mt Lady growled at the sight of Rate-R hero and mumbled, "B432h."
"Thank you all for coming out. As we begin this year's Sport festival, it's time for the introductory speech, given to us by Class 1-A Class President Izuku Midoriya. Who this year has given us a new second place score on the entrance exam with a total score of 220, beating Endeavour's by 2 points." Midnight said. As she said the last part, a group section of the stadium asked whether they needed to move location, "Now Izuku Midoriya if you would please give us your speech."
It was quiet for a bit then a mess of purple and green hair stepped in front of the group. "That can't be the actual class president, there's no way she's healed from her injury enough to be partaking in a festival like this." DeathArms said in disbelief.
"Who cares, I love her hair. I wonder how she got to look like that." Mt Lady said, fangirling over how Izuku's purple and green hair glistened in the morning sun, making it look like the flowing ocean.
Kamui Wood looked at the screen carefully and then noticed something, "Um, I think that girl is a guy." DeathArms and Mt Lady stared at their fellow pro-hero in disbelief
Izuku sighed he didn't believe that was really necessary to point out. Sure it was a cool thing he could claim, but he only got that score from rescue points and leadership points. Leadership points, Izuku still called BS on that and had a theory that one of the UA teachers maybe hated Endeavour and made those points up to knock him down to third, "Now Izuku Midoriya if you would please give us your speech."
Izuku froze as he realized he was being called out for. An introductory speech. Why wasn't he told about this earlier? Sure he had watched the prior years' Sports Festival and heard the introductory speech before, but with everything going on, he had forgotten about it. Meaning he really didn't have anything planned. He looked around for some kind of answer, then his eyes landed on the announcer's booth. He saw Mr Aizawa staring right back at him, chuckling, and then he said, "You're welcome, now suffer."
So that's who had been selected to inform Izuku but elected to ignore that responsibility.
Izuku was never one to flip someone off, but he was considering doing it to his homeroom teacher. Izuku sighed, admitting defeat as he stepped forward and made his way to the side of the platform that had stairs leading up to Midnight. As he walked up the stairs, nothing came to mind of what to say. Actually, he had several things he could say, but he knew it was neither the place nor the time to say anything like that.
Izuku walked up to the microphone, clearing his throat before he reached it. "I just want to say thank you to all for coming here. I speak for myself but I know many of my fellow first year students share this thought. Through our training and different experiences, we're all grown and we're glad for the chance to show who we are" -Izuku looked up and made eye contact with Inko, "We all have hopes and dreams about what our future holds and this will be good chance to see how much further we have to go. I know we'll all be going Beyond Plus Ultra today, and who knows there might be some surprises. So good luck to us all."
Izuku stepped away from the microphone signaling he was done, and a cheer arose from the crowd, repeating. "Go Beyond! Plus Ultra!"
"Thank you Midoriya for the wonderful speech, you know how to get a crowd going." Midnight said as she approached the microphone, she then flicked her whip into the air, "Now it's time for the first event to begin which will be…" - Midnight moved her hand to point towards the giant jumbo screen behind her which turned on and had a show of roulette. It spun around for a bit then began to slow down until it landed on, "Scavenger Hunt. Alright, the rules for this event are simple. Around this stadium are 60 hidden UA emblems." Midnight held out a small piece of metal that had the UA Emblem engraved on it, "Those who bring said emblem to me move on to the second event. You are allowed to steal emblems from your fellow competitors, meaning until it is handed back to me, each and every emblem is a free game. So fight, steal, rob anyone to get your own emblem and bring it to me to win. But a word from our resident nurse Recovery Girl, please don't go overboard." That got a few boos from the crowd, but anyone that knew Recovery Girl, knew she didn't care if she was booed, "Any questions?"
Bakugo actually raised his hand, and Midnight called on him, "By within the stadium, what do you mean?"
"Emblems can be hidden anywhere from bathroom stalls to food vendor stalls, however the audience seats are off limits, and they can vary in size," Midnight said, but Bakugo's hand was still up, "Yes Bakugo?"
Bakugo suddenly shot forward, using his quirk to launch at Midnight, causing the students standing next to him to cover their ears. As Bakugo sailed past Midnight, he swiped the UA Emblem out of her hand. Midnight tried not to panic, but seeing one of the students with a feral grin suddenly shoot towards her, via explosions, was probably one of the scariest things she had ever seen. Bakugo landed on the platform next to the Midnight, sliding to a stop then turned and held the emblem out for her grab. Midnight smirked as Principal Nezu was right. Some of the students would see right through the smoke and mirror and realize the emblem she held as an example counted.
"Katsuki Bakugou has returned the first emblem of the scavenger hunter." Midnight announced, causing a wave of confusion to enter the stadium.
"She started the first event before we knew what it was. Weren't you listening, idiots?" Bakugo laughed, then it donned on the student body and they all scrambled to begin looking for a piece of metal with UA's Emblem on it. Pushing through the stampede of bodies, Izuku was able to be one of the first to reach the tunnels that lead to the other parts of the stadium. Once in the halls, he made a beamline for one of the food courts, and as he ran he looked around for any piece of metal that had UA's emblem engraved on it.
As he reached the food court, Ochaco caught up with him and she had a grin on her face.
"So what's your plan to find one?" Ochaco asked as she slid under a table. She looked around it but didn't find any UA's Emblem. She checked under the chairs before pushing herself to the next table.
"I figure 4 of 5 of them will be out in the open. Give everyone a sense of ease, but then the others will be nigh impossible to find. At least 15 will be in hard to reach spots, a few hidden in plain sight with UA's emblem engraved on something inconspicuous. I bet Principal Nezu hid a few with the food vendor and we have to ask them if they have one." Izuku said, as he quickly turned chairs over and looked them over, yet he didn't find any UA emblem, then joined Ochaco under the tables, "What's your plan?"
"Just follow you, and take it before you get to it." Ochaco laughed as she climbed out from under a table and slid to a different table.
"Why me?" Izuku said as he stood back from under a table.
"You told me about your enhanced eyesight, even then you're really good at noticing things. So figure you would be a good person to follow." Ochaco said as she checked the last table, but didn't find anything.
"Why not Shoji or Jirou, their quirks are better for searching," Izuku said, then as if to make his point, Midnight's voice came over the speakers announcing Shoji had found an emblem. Izuku looked over at Ochaco and winked and she shook her head, "Well there isn't any here, we need to move to the next spot. Leaving the first food court, they ran across a few students searching for their own emblem until they ran out of the hallway and found themselves at the front entrance. Where they found Tsuyu dodging attacks from Class 1-B's Kendo, with an emblem on her tongue.
"Hey, Kendo," Izuku said, drawing the orange-haired girl's attention. This gave Tsuyu enough time to run away and disappear into the stadium. Kendo glared at Izuku as she said, "You're a horrible person."
"I know," Izuku said as he and Ochaco began looking around the entrance for an emblem, and Kendo joined them. Izuku checked the metal detector, while Ochaco checked the bushes and Kendo checked behind the posters. After a bit, Kendo gave off and left to look somewhere else.
"The stadium is giant, what do you think the chances of them having two emblems in the same location are?" Ochaco asked as she floated herself up to the security gate. She looked it over, but couldn't find any emblem. She looked down and saw Izuku outside the entrance, looking around. He shook his head before walking in.
"50/50, but it appears there isn't another small emblem around here." Izuku said.
"Tsuyu Asui, Neito Monoma, and Minoru Mineta have all returned their emblems and passed to the second event." Midnight announced, "Only 54 emblems remain."
A small sense of dread entered Ochaco, but she shook her head and said, "Come let's go look somewhere else." and Izuku agreed with a nod. They began walking away, however Izuku looked up by fully leaving the entrance tunnel. As they walked to the nearest restroom area, Kendo and Todoroki were both announced to have returned an emblem. Ochaco walked away from Izuku to head to the female bathroom, while Izuku headed to the males.
As Izuku pushed the door open to the male bathroom, Ilda came running out and headed towards the arena. As Ilda turned the corner. Izuku saw he had an emblem in his hand and it was highly unlikely that there would be a second emblem in a room as small as the bathroom. For a brief moment, Izuku considered running after Ilda but knew it would be a fruitless endeavor. Izuku simply walked back out of the bathroom and waited for Ochaco to return.
As soon as Ochaco entered the female bathroom, she was face-to-face with Shiozaki. Shiozaki came out of the last stall with an emblem in her hand and a disgusted look on her face, as she flicked water off of her hand. "Can't believe I had to do that. Oh, Uraraka."
Ochaco gave a small wave before her eyes narrowed on Shiozaki's emblem as she dropped down into a fighting stance, "I'm going to need that emblem."
Shiozaki slid the emblem into her pocket, while her vine hair rose in the air, ready to launch forward like a predator, "You'll have to take it from me." Ochaco immediately floated herself and rocketed towards Shiozaki, who sent hair flying towards Ochaco. Ochaco managed to dodge most of the vines, but as she was able to reach Shiozaki, a vine wrapped itself around Ochaco's ankle. Ochaco barely had a moment to look back at her ankle before the vine lifted her into the ceiling.
Ochaco hit the ceiling and groaned as the air was forced out of her lungs. Ochaco had to take a few moments to get a deep breath and once she could she looked down. Shiozaki had begun to run towards the exit. "Release." Ochaco yelled as she pressed her fingers together to release her quirk. Then before gravity could fully take over, Ochaco grabbed the vine from around her ankle.
The moment Ochaco hit the ground, she kicked her wrapped leg back while pulling the vine back with her arms. As Shiozaki was not expecting this, her head was pulled back, causing her to trip and fall to the ground. Ochaco then began to pull Shiozaki back to her. "I said I'm taking that emblem."
Shiozaki managed to get to her knees and tried to pull against Ochaco's hold, yet it felt like her hair was getting pulled out. "You will not take what I rightfully earned." Shiozaki then sent more vines towards Ochaco.
Ochaco released the vine in her hand and focused on dodging the incoming projectiles. However, in doing so she had forgotten about the vine that had been previously wrapped around her ankle, which Shiozaki noticed and sent more vines at Ochaco. As Ochaco moved to dodge them, she was stopped as the vine rewrapped itself around her ankle and held her to the ground. Noticing this Ochaco held up her arms to brace as the vines crashed into her.
Ochaco was sent backwards and pinned to the back walls. As the vine slithered over her body like snakes, they began to embed themselves into the wall, forming a small cocoon around her body. Ochaco tried to push against the vine to free herself but the vines tightened. The vine then began to mummify Ochaco, leaving only her head visible as they secured her to the wall. Ochaco tried to free herself from the vines were like steel coils, not having any bend to them.
Shiozaki then disconnected herself from the vines and said, "Now repent for your sins as you hung there." She then turned and ran out the door to head back to Midnight, emblem securely in her pocket. As she ran out the door, she immediately became clotheslined by an arm.
From her monument, Shiozaki's leg went shooting out from under her, dropping her like a weight to the floor, causing the back of her head to hit the ground. She looked over and saw three Izuku's, and could do nothing as he reached down and began to pat her down in search of an emblem. Starting with her shirt and then going down to her pants, Izuku quickly found Shiozaki's emblem in her pocket. Pulling it out, Izuku flipped it into the air like it was a yen coin. Then he caught it and slipped it into his pocket.
Izuku then picked Shiozaki up by her arms and leaned her against the wall, so no one could accidentally run her over. "Thanks for doing the hard part." Izuku said, then stood up and walked into the girl's bathroom.
Where he found Ochaco restrained against the wall. "Enjoying your spa day" Maybe enjoying this a bit too much, as Izuku watched Ochaco struggle against her bindings.
"Shut up." Ochaco said as she tried to strain against the vines, but she could barely move and when she stopped the vines snapped back against the wall, "Willing to give a damsel in distress some help."
"Sure, but I don't see a damsel or anyone in distress." Izuku said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out the emblem. He then began repeatedly flipping the emblem like he was flipping a coin.
"Ha, ha. Just get me out of here." Ochaco said as she glared at Izuku. Izuku laughed as he walked up to Ochaco, transforming his right arm and ejecting a red bullet out of his arm. He caught it and held it up to the vines. It began to glow a bit and burn away the vines until Ochaco was able to free herself. As Ochaco caught her breath, Izuku held the emblem out for her to take.
"But it's your's," Ochaco said. Izuku had been the one to take down Shiozaki and take the emblem. It belonged to him and Ochaco was sure she would be able to find one on her own or be able to win one off a student.
"Just take it, I'll find another," Izuku said as he slapped the emblem into Ochaco's hand.
"You better," Ochaco said, knowing Izuku wouldn't accept the emblem back. Ochaco hopped out of the bathroom, hiding the emblem in her pocket as she headed back to Midnight. Once Ochaco disappeared, Izuku threw away his bullet in the trash bin and looked around for a specific person who could help him get an emblem.
Ochaco's breath was sharp as she hopped into the arena, her ankle torn up from having a vine wrapped around it. She was trying to act like she didn't have an emblem and was just injured and unable to continue. She hopped over to the platform, then jumped up to Midnight and handed the teacher her emblem. "Ochaco Uraraka has returned her emblem, 10 remain."
Ochaco hopped down the platform and then sat down on the green, taking a breath as she tried to focus on another thing other than the pain in her ankle. Shiozaki's vine hadn't cut deep and Ochaco's injury was her own fault, but that didn't help numb the pain at all. She would need to see Recovery Girl before the next event, but for now, she sat there as Momo and Hagakura handed over two more emblems, 15 remaining.
Inko smiled when she saw Ochaoc return with an emblem, but became concerned that Izuku didn't return after her. She had seen on the monitor that they had been working together, but after they left the main entrance Inko had lost sight of them. Sensing this, All Might leaned over and whispered, "I'm sure Young Midoriya will be able to get an emblem and make it to the second round. He has a keen eye and a good heart, chances are he'll return with the last emblem, after allowing others to find their own."
"But what if someone gets to it before he does?" Inko asked, as she looked over at Eri, who had her nose pressed against the glass looking for her big brother. She had done this since the event had begun properly and all the students had disappeared into the stadium, and standing next to her was Principal Nezu as he looked at the jumbo screen.
"I don't believe that to happen. Some emblems are hidden because they are small, some are hidden in plain sight, but there is one, the one I believe your son has already found, that is not hidden because it's small. It's not attached to the underside of a table, nor given to a food vendor. It's simply in the last place anyone would look, despite many of those in the audience having seen it." Principal Nezu said, looking over his shoulder at Inko then turning to Eri, "Tell me Young Eri, do you think your older brother will be able to find a hidden Emblem?"
"Yes." Eri said, nodding her head almost violently. Her big brother was the best and was going to win this whole thing. And he always found her during hide and seek, it might take some time but he always found her. There was no way a stupid emblem could hide from him.
Many of the teachers looked at Principal Nezu, confused. The day prior they had been tasked to hide the emblems, many taking pride in some of the hiding spots they had come up with. Yet during this time, Principal Nezu had requested that he be allowed to hide two of the emblems. The first one had already been found by Bakugo and now it seemed Principal Nezu was under the belief Izuku would be the one to find the other one.
"Mei Hatsumi has returned her emblem. Only one remains, who will be the one to find it." Midnight said, looking over the emblem she had been given. And after looking over the different emblems that had already been returned she realized the only one remaining was the second one that Principal Nezu had hidden. She let out a sigh as if it could be forever before a student before the last emblem. She had only been informed that the emblem she held as an example counted because it was important to know. Yet Principal Nezu had elected not to inform any of the teachers of where he had hidden his second emblem.
It was quiet for a few minutes, as everyone in the stadium waited for the lucky student to bring in the last emblem and end the first event. The tension grew with each passing second and some began to wonder if the last emblem couldn't be found and only 59 students would be allowed to pass.
Midnight was talking through her earpiece to Principal Nezu about that exact issue, however, Principal Nezu expressed no concern, even going so far as to state the last emblem was able to be found. Midnight was about to call him crazy and say where he had hidden the last emblem was clearly too hard for any student. Yet she was cut off when a large crash echoed throughout the stadium, causing everyone to look around and try to see where it came from
"Where in the world did that come from?" Present Mic said.
"Why don't you use your controls to find out." Mr Aizawa said.
"Huh, please wait, as we locate where that sound came from." Present Mic said. A few seconds later the multiple screens of the jumbotron became one and showed a bizarre sight. Izuku was standing in the palm of an enlarged Mt Lady, next to her feet was the UA's sign that was supposed to be above the main entrance, yet it had lost its color.
And the Sports Festival has began and from the start its obvious theses are not going to be the same events as cannon. In Electric Heart because I was a new writer I didn't want to spend time thinking of new events. And by the time I was comfort with my skill level to write new events for the Sports Festival, I had already written well past that arc. and the event still worked well with what I wanted to show with the characters. But now its time to flex my creativities with all new events for Project Velocity's Sports.
Next chapter we figure exactly what Principal Nezu's plan was with the second emblem he hide and how Izuku noticed it. And then we move onto the second event.
Next Time: Gotta Fight to Win.
Review and tell me what you think.
