Katie Arrives at the Lookout
The late morning sun shone brightly over Adventure Bay as Katie's pet parlor van pulled up near the Lookout. The pups had been outside, playing and enjoying the fresh air, when they spotted her arrival.
"Hey, it's Katie!" Skye barked excitedly, wagging her tail.
Marshall tilted his head. "What's she doing here?"
Zuma shrugged. "Dunno, dude, but it's always awesome to see her!"
Ryder stepped out from the garage, wiping his hands on a cloth as Katie climbed out of her van. She had a bright smile on her face as she waved.
"Hey, Ryder! Hope I'm not dropping in at a bad time," Katie said as she approached.
Ryder smiled. "Not at all. What's up?"
"Well," Katie began, looking up at the impressive structure of the Lookout. "I heard you rebuilt the entire place, and I realized I never got the grand tour."
Ryder chuckled. "Oh? Well, we can't have that, can we?" He motioned for her to follow. "Come on. I'll show you around."
The pups exchanged knowing glances, already sensing an opportunity for mischief.
The Lookout Tour
Ryder led Katie through the various sections of the Lookout, pointing out all the upgrades and additions.
•The Garage – "This is where I keep the pups' vehicles. I made some adjustments to their systems for better efficiency."
•The Control Room – "Here's the main hub where we monitor everything in Adventure Bay. Upgraded screens, faster response time… it's pretty much state-of-the-art now."
•The Living Quarters – "Each pup has their own custom room now, tailored to their personality and needs."
As they walked, Katie couldn't hide her admiration. "Ryder, this place is incredible. It's more than just a headquarters—it's a home."
Ryder smiled at her words. "That's exactly what I was going for."
They continued through the kitchen, lounge area, and training space, where Ryder demonstrated some of the new exercise equipment designed for the pups.
"This is where we make sure they stay in top shape," Ryder explained as Rocky hopped onto one of the balance platforms to demonstrate.
Katie clapped her hands together. "I love it. Everything here shows how much you care about them."
"They're family," Ryder said simply.
Little did he know, the pups had been watching the entire time, whispering among themselves, already scheming.
The Friendly Teasing Begins
As Ryder and Katie wrapped up the tour in the spacious living area, warm afternoon light streamed through the large windows, giving the space a cozy glow.
"That's pretty much everything," Ryder said as he leaned against the counter. "What do you think?"
Katie shook her head in amazement. "I think you've completely outdone yourself. This place is beyond amazing, Ryder."
The pups, who had been lounging nearby (or at least pretending to), exchanged mischievous glances.
Chase nudged Marshall, who stifled a giggle.
Skye's pink eyes twinkled with amusement. "You look really happy today, Ryder."
Zuma wagged his tail excitedly. "Yeah, dude! Maybe 'cause Katie's here?"
Ryder's face immediately flushed red. "What? No! That's not— You pups are ridiculous."
Marshall's ears perked up as an idea struck him. With his best innocent voice, he trotted up to Katie and tilted his head.
"Hey, Katie, what do you think of Ryder?"
Ryder, who had just stepped outside behind them, froze mid-step. "Marshall!" he exclaimed, his voice a mix of shock and mortification.
Katie turned, raising an amused eyebrow. "What do I think of Ryder?" she repeated, clearly surprised but smiling.
Ryder's face turned an even deeper shade of red as he tried to cut Marshall off. "Don't answer that! Marshall, stop embarrassing me!"
Katie chuckled softly, clearly enjoying the moment. "I think Ryder's great," she said warmly. "Why do you ask?"
Marshall grinned wider, glancing back at the other pups, who were now giggling uncontrollably from the doorway.
"Oh, no reason. Just curious."
Ryder groaned, dragging a hand down his face. "You pups are impossible."
Katie stepped closer to Ryder, resting a hand on his arm. "I think they just want to make sure you're okay."
"They're worse than my doctor," Ryder muttered, though a small smile tugged at his lips. He shot Marshall a mock glare. "And as for you, Marshall—you're so gonna get it when I come home."
Marshall wagged his tail even harder, clearly unfazed. "I'll be waiting!" he teased, his laughter echoing as Ryder shook his head.
The Ride to Katie's Pet Parlor
As Ryder started the engine of his ATV, Katie adjusted her seat, her hands lightly resting on his shoulders for balance.
"You've got such a great team," she said softly as they began driving down the winding path. "The way they care about you is really special."
"They're the best," Ryder admitted. "Even if they don't know when to quit."
Katie chuckled, leaning slightly closer. "They just want to see you happy, Ryder. It's sweet."
"Sweet's one way to describe it," Ryder said with a laugh. "Annoying is another."
"They mean well," Katie said, smiling. "And it's obvious how much you care about them too."
"They're family," Ryder said simply. "I don't know what I'd do without them."
Back at the Lookout
When Ryder returned home later that afternoon, the pups were waiting for him on the front steps, their expressions a mix of amusement and anticipation.
Chase stood front and center, his brow raised knowingly, while Marshall couldn't hide the grin spreading across his face.
"So," Chase began, his voice full of mischief. "How was the ride?"
Ryder stepped off the ATV, crossing his arms. "It was fine," he said, narrowing his eyes. "What are you all so smug about?"
Marshall trotted forward, his grin softening into something more genuine. "You do know we're just messing with you, right?"
Ryder sighed, his shoulders relaxing. "Yeah, I know. You pups love giving me a hard time."
Marshall wagged his tail. "That's what we're here for."
Ryder smirked, a glint of mischief entering his own eyes. "You're right about one thing, Marshall."
"What's that?" Marshall asked curiously.
"That family gets even."
Before Marshall could react, Ryder lunged forward, scooping him up and began tickling him mercilessly.
His fingers danced over Marshall's sides, and the Dalmatian erupted into uncontrollable laughter.
"Ahhh! Ryder, stop!" Marshall squealed, squirming in Ryder's grasp. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"
The other pups burst into laughter, watching as Marshall wriggled and kicked, his laughter echoing through the yard.
Ryder grinned, finally letting him go after a few more seconds.
"You deserved that," Ryder said, ruffling Marshall's ears as the pup flopped onto the ground, panting.
Marshall looked up at him with a playful pout. "Okay… maybe I did."
Chase stepped forward, his expression amused but affectionate. "Alright, Ryder. Maybe we'll take it easy on you—at least for now."
"Sure you will," Ryder said with a laugh. "But seriously, thanks for always looking out for me."
Marshall wagged his tail, his grin returning. "That's what family's for."
