Harry spent the rest of the summer cramming about politics and which way people in the Wizengamot voted and before he knew it, September 2nd the day of the next Wizengamot meeting was here. He dressed in the hideous puce colored robes Andromeda had ordered with the crests of House Black and Potter on the left breast. He also wore heeled boots. He liked that they gave a little extra height to his 5 foot 6 frame.
Taking a deep breath, he flooed to the Ministry and made his way to the Wizengamot Services Administration department on the 2nd floor across from the DMLE. Older witches and wizards milling about in the hallway gawked at him. Before he knew it, they moved as one to the Wizengamot meeting room and the Chief Warlock, Henry Abbott, Hannah Abbott's grandfather, peered at him through bifocals.
"What brings you to these esteemed halls, young man?"
He cleared his throat. "I come to take my ancestor's place among you, as Berry Jassamine Potter, Lord Potter, Lord Black, in good standing among my peers and educated to high standard."
"hmm , you are young for this task, only nineteen I believe. Do you feel prepared for the heavy weight of this position?"
Harry looked at him with hard eyes. "I have been training this past year and feel I am adequately prepared."
"Then, Lord Black-Potter, all that's left before you join this weighted bench is to declare your alignment. Now House Black is traditionally Dark while Potter has in recent times switched from Grey to Light. I look forward to seeing where the Houses will sit under your leadership." Lord Abbott disclosed.
"Houses Black and Potter move to the Grey."
"Very well. Is there any other House business?" He opened the floor to the other members.
No one spoke for a moment, then, Amos Diggory as representative of DRCMC, exploded up from his seat.
"I argue that Lord Black-Potter should be supervised in his voting. HIs direct actions led to the death of my only son in 1995 and yet no one has done anything about this menace walking around potentially leading other young people to doom."
Lady Longbottom stood to address Amos. "Amos, what happened to your son was tragic, but unless you can prove Lord Black-Potter cast the spell himself, what is your argument?"
"Trouble follows that boy and I'm merely trying to save the government a lot of stress and hassle in the long run by saying he has no place here."
Lady Longbottom blew his argument out of the water with her next move. "If Lord Black-Potter is so detrimental, let us assign a mentor. I personally volunteer as a long time member of the Wizengamot and citizen in good standing. Will that suffice, Amos?"
Diggory turned a purple not too far from the shade of the robes they all wore. He huffed and sat back down.
Lord Abbott continued the meeting after agreeing that Lady Longbottom would mentor Harry in the going ons of their government. Next was a dull reading of a bill on the acquirement of billywig parts for the local apothecaries due to tariffs that had been put in place during Fudge's administration.
After the meeting, Dowager Longbottom came up to Harry and bid him to walk her to the Floo station. He offered his arm and they set off down the hall. She paused and asked him to put up the "nifty" muffling spell she'd heard about from Neville, so he cast a muffliato.
"Mr. Potter, I would first like to commend you for befriending young Neville. I worried much about him during his school years. TO my shame, I thought he was soft, too soft for this cruel world we live in, but he's brave. Braver than me, braver than my Frank and dear Alice. I feel I did him a great disservice. Which is why I would like to reaffirm the bond between House Longbottom and House Potter. I'm not sure if you're aware but I was James' godmother. And Alice was – is you godmother, just as Lily was Neville's godmother.
There has long since been a bond between our houses, one of brotherhood and allyish. I would reaffirm this bond between us especially as I prepare for Neville to take my place on the bench."
"Lady Longbottom, I'm honored. Neville is a close friend."
"He should've been your brother," A tear rolled down her wrinkled face." But between the grief I felt over losing my son and daughter in law and Dumbledore's manipulations I missed out on your placement."
Harry stumbled. He hadn't known that.
He steadied himself, "Whatever I have to do to do this just let me know."
They arrived at the Floos and after watching the dowager lady floo back to her estat
