The first thing a 10-year old kid named Gabriel felt was the cold grass against his skin. Except… it wasn't skin. It was soft, fuzzy, and warm. His fingers twitched, or at least what should have been fingers, but they felt… different.
He sat up with a groggy groan, rubbing his eyes. That's when he noticed his hands—or rather, his paws. His heart nearly jumped out of his chest. They were covered in fur, round and stubby, with a small heart symbol on each. He scrambled to his feet, but his legs felt strange, shorter and stockier. Panic set in as he patted himself down, feeling his face, his belly, his—his tail?!
"What the—?!" His voice came out slightly higher, softer, almost… cute.
He stumbled forward, his foot catching on a root, and tumbled down a small hill. Leaves and twigs clung to his fur as he groaned on the ground. That's when he noticed something even weirder. Right in the middle of his belly, there was a symbol. A colorful, glowing mark that seemed to represent something—though he had no idea what.
"This has to be a dream," he muttered. "Or—or a prank. Yeah! Maybe someone put me in a weird costume while I was asleep!"
But deep down, he knew that wasn't it. The sky above wasn't the usual sky he knew. It was brighter, softer, and had a warmth that felt alive. The trees looked cartoonishly perfect, the clouds fluffy and solid as if they could be walked on. Everything around him felt… magical.
And then, a voice called out from the trees.
"Hello? Are you lost?"
Gabriel's ears perked up—wait, ears?!—as he turned to see a small group of colorful bears approaching. Their friendly smiles were unnerving.
This wasn't Earth.
This wasn't home.
And worst of all? Something told him he wouldn't be leaving anytime soon.
"Welcome to Care-a-lot," one of the bears said. "You must be new here!"
As much as he wanted to wake up, run away, or demand answers, one thing was clear—if he wanted to get back to his world, he'd have to figure out why he was here.
And why he had become a Care Bear.
Gabriel or now known as Short Fused Bear shook his head for a moment to snap out of his confused trance. He tries to speak but no comes out of his mouth because he doesn't know what to say and after a minute. Gabriel spoke in an uncertain tone
"So uh... Who are you?"
"My name is Tenderheart. What about you?"
Gabriel examine his appearance for a bit and what interest him was the fact that his belly belly was a stick of dynamite with a short fuses, symbolizing his short-temper personality like how it depicts his anger is on a verge of exploding. His fur color was bright red. Gabriel finally spoke, sounding uncertain.
"My name is... Short Fused Bear"
"That's an odd name but I won't judge" Grumpy commented before the blue Care Bear introduced himself
"I'm Grumpy Bear... Welcome to Care-a-lot... I guess"
