Chapter 38: A Tropical Adventure
It was time for our protagonists to enjoy their special time alone in a beautiful place. They wanted to celebrate their commitment to each other for the rest of their lives in a place special to both of them. So, why not share this wonderful experience that they'll remember forever?
Juan Santamaria International Airport, Costa Rica
After a few hours of traveling by plane, the couple finally arrived at the Costa Rican airport. They got off the plane and went to claim their bags. They were in the main entrance hall, waiting for someone else.
"We're finally here. How are you feeling, Urchin? I know this was your first plane ride" Zooli asked him curiously.
"W-Well, At first, I felt very nervous. But you helped me overcome that slight fear, and I enjoyed the trip. Except for the takeoff, everything else was enjoyable. I'm excited to start our honeymoon trip here" Urchin told her.
"Hehe me too. I'm so glad we chose this lesser-known place. I want to admire its natural beauty the whole time we're here. Oh! And I hope you practiced a little Spanish" Zooli said with a smile.
"Well, luckily someone's going to help us with that, aren't they? By the way, where's your contact?" He asked her.
"I think he can't be far from here, right?" Zooli was curious. At that moment, a guppy with black hair and reading glasses, light skin, and a green tail with orange stripes arrived. He was wearing a casual but very appropriate outfit.
"Hello! Pura Vida! It's a pleasure to finally meet you in person. You must be Zooli and Urchin, right? Welcome to Costa Rica. My name is Antonio, and I'll be your special bilingual tour guide" The new guy introduced himself happily.
"It's a pleasure, Antonio. I saw positive reviews about you and thought you'd be the right fit for us" Zooli greeted politely.
"H-Hi, huh….I heard my wife hired you, didn't she?" Urchin asked shyly.
"Something like that. I was assigned to be your guide because of my English skills, and I'm also a tour guide specializing in accessible tourism. What's that? Well, specialized in providing tour guidance to people with physical disabilities. Here in Costa Rica, we're starting to work in recreational tourism so everyone can enjoy the natural wonders, regardless of their cognitive abilities. So, it will be a pleasure to make your stay more comfortable, amigos" Antonio said kindly.
"That...is very kind. I appreciate it very much" Urchin admitted.
"Yes, in fact, we'd like to go to our first destination. It's a beautiful place called Manuel Antonio... Hehe, curious... It has your name" The purple-haired guppy said giggling.
"Oh! Do you want to go to Manuel Antonio? There's a beautiful beach and a National Park there. I can see why you chose that place. Very well. The hotel where you booked confirmed your spots. And we'd better leave soon. To get to Manuel Antonio, it'll be a three-hour van ride. So the sooner the better for everyone" The tourist guide explained to them.
"All right, let's go" With that, they followed the guide to a van parked near the airport. The van was painted with nature art and the tour company's logo. It had many different colors. Antonio prepared the van so his wheelchair-bound client could easily fit into the vehicle. Antonio would drive, and Zooli and her husband would sit in the backseat.
"I have a question about culture. Everyone here says 'Pura Vida,' but what does that mean?" Urchin asked him curiously.
"Oh! That's an excellent question. All foreigners ask the same question. 'Pura Vida' is a phrase used by Ticos with many meanings. It can be used as 'hello,' 'thank you,' 'everything's cool,' 'you're welcome,' 'no worries,' 'goodbye.'..." Antonio explained before he turned on the van.
"Hey, you guys use 'Pura Vida' for almost everything" Zooli said with a funny tone of voice.
"That's our way of life. The Costa Rican way. At least, that's the intention. We still have challenges and problems like everyone else" Antonio answered "Alright, here we go!"
Manuel Antonio, Puntarenas, Costa Rica
After a pleasant and fun conversation, they began their long road trip to reach their destination. During the trip, Antonio told them about the natural destinations they could visit. He shared history about the country, and the newlywed couple learned a lot on the trip. After passing through forested mountains and highways, always passing through towns and cities smaller than the ones the guppies were used to, they arrived at their destination. The first stop was the hotel where they would be staying. There, they would simply check in and drop off their heavy suitcases. From there, they would embark on their first adventure in that tourist destination. Antonio helped them with their luggage, and the room they had chosen was perfect for the boy in a wheelchair. The tour guide let them stay for a few minutes so they could rest and plan a visit to Manuel Antonio National Park, which was their first planned activity. Zooli and Urchin were in the hotel room. They began changing into clothing more suitable for hiking.
"Wow, I didn't think this would be the start of our life together, you know?" Urchin commented as he changed his clothes.
"Hehe, I can imagine. I mean, we finally got married. And now it's our honeymoon. Do you think things will be different?" Zooli changed her clothes too. Neither of them looked directly at each other.
"Well yes, honestly" He said nervously.
"Hey, things don't have to change completely. I mean, yes, it's different because we'll be living together. But many things will be the same. We'll still enjoy the things we love together. Sharing passions and hobbies. Only now we'll be closer" Zooli explained her point.
"I think you have a point there. Well, I…" He wanted to say more.
"Ahem….I'm sorry to interrupt you, but I have the tickets for the National Park. We can go" Antonio called them.
"Oh! Of course" The couple decided to take only the essentials for the tour of the National Park, trusting in the cabin's safety. So, they went with Antonio.
Not many kilometers from there, they arrived at the entrance to the popular Manuel Antonio National Park. They saw the deep forest very close to the ocean and the beach. They noticed the presence of national and international tourists. So it was a very popular place for visitors. Antonio gave them a map of the accessible trails for wheelchair users. The guide knew they were on their honeymoon, so he tried to give them space without losing sight of them in case of any emergency. What he didn't expect was that the couple already had previous experience with these types of trails. So he followed them mainly to supervise in case of an emergency. The couple noticed the natural diversity in that place, which was very different from what they were used to. There were some animals that were different from what they were used to seeing.
"Zooli, look! There are many kinds of birds here that I haven't seen on our other trips. Wow! Hummingbirds, macaws, toucans, and many small and medium-sized birds of different colors. Thanks to this, I will be able to expand my collection of bird photos" Urchin said excitedly, taking a lot of photos.
"And don't just look at the sky and the treetops. Look at the leaves and the trunks and branches. There are plants and flowers that aren't found in other national parks in our country. In fact, it seems we have a lot of little company" Zooli said, noticing the presence of small insects like butterflies, ants, bees, drones, wasps, flies, beetles, ladybugs, grasshoppers, dragonflies, and mantises. There were also many small frogs, toads, and birds that sometimes saw the insects as food. The guppies were lucky to have used insect repellent on their skins because of the insects. Of all the frogs, Urchin was surprised by one in particular.
"Wow! Zooli! Look at that! A Red-Eyed Tree Frog! I've always wanted to see one" The boy said in surprise before carefully taking a picture of the red-eyed green frog that was passing by.
"Mmmm, you're in luck, Urchin. That frog is normally nocturnal. Maybe it was one that was a little disoriented" Antonio expressed.
"Or maybe he was looking for a place to hide" Zooli added.
"It's a good possibility" Antonio said while all of them continued with the path.
"OOO-OOO-OOOOOO!" A loud sound was heard.
"AHHHH!" Urchin got a little scared and almost panicked. Zooli took the chair to reassure him.
"Hehe Don't worry, Urchin. Look in those leafy trees. They're just howler monkeys" Zooli pointed out some howler monkeys that were hiding in the treetops in the distance.
"I hope they don't bother you at night. In the early hours of the morning, they're very noisy. They'll be your 'natural alarm clock'...Oh! I forgot to tell you: Take care of your belongings. Let's just say there are some mischievous and curious monkeys around here" Antonio explained this when the group noticed the presence of white-faced monkeys near the area. They traveled in packs and moved from tree to tree, although some were mischievous and sometimes planned to steal things from them. Luckily, they knew how to handle these funny situations. Zooli, as an expert in this field, made sure the monkeys didn't eat any human food. Throughout the tour, they continued to observe other similar animals, including small mammals like raccoons, anteaters, monkeys, squirrels, white-tailed deer, two-toed sloths, and three-toed sloths. They were lucky enough to photograph a sloth carrying her baby, something the couple loved seeing. They walked along trails and even crossed a bridge with a river below, where they could see a mouth of the river. Where a river met the ocean. They were also surprised by the presence of a few alligators and a group of large river crocodiles, some of which had adapted to those areas. Antonio explained that there was a social debate regarding crocodiles in many parts of the country. And before finishing the tour, they managed to see something very special and unique.
"Z-Z-Zooli…..L-Look!" Urchin was tense and excited at the same time when they saw a young jaguar in the forest foliage.
"It's a jaguar! Let's be quiet so as not to scare it... It's a young specimen, so I doubt it'll attack... But let's keep our distance" Zooli took the photo.
"Curious, it's not normal to have jaguars here. They normally live in the mountains. This young man is probably just exploring or passing through... (sigh) Although deforestation and urbanization could be other culprits" Antonio analyzed.
"Yes, I see that this is a problem everywhere" Zooli said quietly. For a moment, she remembered a feline friend she still remembered. How was the tigress she loved doing?
After that tour, Antonio directed them to the nearby beach so they could enjoy the sun, sand, and sea. And that's where they were surprised to see something unique to some beaches: there was a ramp to enter the sea and special amphibious wheelchairs so they could be on the beach without any problems.
"W-Wow! I didn't know there were accessible beaches here" Urchin was surprised.
"Recently, projects for accessible beaches began in some parts of the country. And this is one of them. Enjoy the beach. You have a few hours to enjoy it before our recreational diving tour" Antonio told them before leaving and giving the couple time alone while he prepared the necessary equipment for recreational diving. He also included the necessary resources and some colleagues to help him.
"Looks like I won't have to carry you out to sea after all" Zooli said funnily.
"It seems so, although I like being in your arms...Oops!" Urchin covered his mouth, blushing.
"Hehe, I'll definitely give you the pleasure. Just let me get ready" Zooli said before taking off her clothes in front of her new husband. Although she didn't mean to, he blushed quite a bit when he saw her do that. And in reality, Zooli was wearing her black one-piece sporty swimsuit under her clothes. So there was no need to find a changing room "Need help?"
"I…Uhh…Y-Yeah" Urchin accepted somewhat shyly. She helped him undress, leaving him in short shorts like his swimsuit. Before entering, they applied sunscreen to their arms, necks, and backs (they had to apply it to each other). With this, the two were finally able to reach the beach. Thanks to the ramp and an amphibious wheelchair, this time they both entered the sea on their own. Zooli seemed happy to see that her husband could enjoy the beach more on his own. She was also nearby to watch over him and accompany him.
"This place is beautiful. White sand and the sea is so blue. You can tell this place is a natural beauty" Zooli said with calmness and she was relaxed.
"Yes, I'm glad to be here...feeling the sea...with you. All I could think about was doing all this with the woman I love" Urchin said shyly.
"Hehe….You're going to make me blush, Urchin" She crossed her arms funnily.
"I'm being honest. I hope you get used to hearing things like this... It's just incredible to be with you. Sometimes we don't need to talk much to know we're enjoying the moment" Urchin said nervously.
"Hehehe you're right..." Zooli didn't expect her husband to use his tail to splash some water "Woah! Ohhh I didn't expect that from you. Quiet guys can be mean... You're going to pay" She said this playfully before splashing water on him with her hands. Urchin used his hands and tail to start their friendly water fight. The battle didn't last long because Zooli used a lot of water on him. Just as he was regaining his vision, he noticed her climb onto the chair, landing on his lap.
"Uhhh…" Urchin was surprised and blushed when he saw her on top of his thighs. Making it impossible for him to move.
"Do you think you can escape your punishment, dear? You should know very well that I'm the one in charge of this relationship" Zooli said, caressing his face with one hand, and the other hand touching his chest. Something that made her husband blush deeply. Secretly, for some reason, he liked that hidden, dominant side of her.
"Uhhh….Uhhhhh….." Urchin was getting nervous and a little uncomfortable. She wasn't mean, and she understood his body language. So she moved off his lap to avoid doing anything without his consent.
"Hey, you know I'm just playing. I'm not that kind of woman" She calmed him down to avoid any misunderstandings.
"Hehe well...coming from you, it doesn't bother me..." Urchin said, blushing a lot. And before they could continue their game, Antonio was waiting for them on the shore.
"Zooli, Urchin! I hope I don't spoil the fun, but the diving tour is almost over. You can get ready for some recreational diving. Let's go" Antonio called them. The couple would have to wait. But they decided to leave the beach and go to the boat where Antonio and other colleagues qualified for the task.
The boat was specially designed for this type of activity. They sailed for several minutes before heading out to sea. They were lucky enough to see dolphins leaping in schools in the distance and, a little further away, humpback whales. Finally, they reached a specific spot. Antonio's companions prepared a special submersible chair for Urchin. Zooli, Urchin, and Antonio put on their diving suits, and he explained important instructions.
"Okay. Remember to avoid touching certain types of fish. We have microphones on our masks so we can talk in the water, but let's try not to talk too much to avoid wasting air. If you start to notice a lack of air on the gauges, swim to the surface immediately. Don't come up suddenly to avoid pressure problems. Understood? Okay, let's get in the water!" Antonio said before falling backward and into the sea. Zooli looked at Urchin, and she did the same. Antonio's teammates prepared their equipment.
"Ready, Urchin?" One of them asked him.
"(gulp) I-I think so" Urchin said nervously.
"All right. Preparing your launch in three, two, one...Let's go!" By pressing a few buttons, they released Urchin into his special submersible chair. The descent was slow to avoid sudden pressure changes. Urchin closed his eyes for a moment, and when he opened them, he saw Zooli and Antonio diving near him.
"Hehe…Welcome to under the sea" Zooli said funnily.
"W-Woah! I don't believe it. I'm really diving! No one would believe me if I told them!" Urchin began to admire his surroundings. There were coral reefs all around him, and various colorful fish.
"I guess you've never been scuba diving, huh? Wanna see a miracle? Urchin... Swim" Antonio said with a smile.
"W-W-What?! You know I can't" Urchin denied.
"You may not be able to get up on the surface. But under the sea, things are different. Zooli, you can help him" Antonio proposed.
"Uhhh…Z-Zooli…I…" He was surprised when she took his hands.
"Trust me. Just let yourself go" She told him calmly. Urchin, after a few seconds of denial, closed his eyes...and let himself go. When he opened his eyes, he saw something incredible. He was moving without his chair! He was diving with his wife, holding hands.
"W-W-WHAT?!" Urchin couldn't believe it. He was moving his tail and could move in the water.
"Hehehe….Under the sea, gravity has no effect on you. You're as light as a feather. It's like being in space" Zooli giggled.
"In that case...There's something I've wanted to do for a long time" Thanks to that unique environment, Urchin used his arms to carry Zooli. She was surprised and blushed slightly. In a normal environment, that would be impossible. But underwater, natural rules apply differently.
"Woah! I never imagined a scene like this" Zooli admitted.
"Hehehe...I want to enjoy this while it lasts" Urchin felt powerful underwater. He could swim on his own, always under the supervision of Zooli and Antonio. Zooli couldn't deny that feeling her husband's arms was comforting, even though she wasn't used to it.
"Let's enjoy marine life before we run out of air time" Antonio recommended. And without wasting much more time, the three began exploring the coral reef. They saw many beautiful marine animals. For example, moray eels hiding in rocks or caves, crabs, starfish, lobsters, sea urchins (which they kept their distance from for obvious reasons), and many colorful fish. Some fish needed to be kept at a distance, such as triggerfish, sailfish, and pufferfish. The best thing that happened to Zooli was encountering a small group of seahorses. Some of them swam with her, and Urchin took the opportunity to take a wonderful photo of her with the seahorses. All thanks to a special diving camera. The boy was always ready with a special camera for certain scenarios. But the best thing was that the two could swim together. For a few minutes, Urchin felt free from his wheelchair, and he treasured those moments.
After all that, the three returned to the surface and boarded the boat, where Antonio's companions helped them get back on the boat. After a few hours, they returned to shore. Antonio took Zooli and Urchin to the hotel where they were staying. They arrived in time to photograph the beautiful sunset, where the sky was orange and the sun set into the sea, figuratively speaking, of course. They returned to the hotel that evening, where they took a shower and had dinner. Finally, Antonio said goodbye to them.
"We've explored well this day. I recommend spending one more day, and the next day we can continue with the plan you planned. After all, you're the ones in charge" Antonio explained.
"Don't worry. We'll keep you informed of any changes to our travel plans" Zooli said calmly.
"Very well. You two can rest together, alone together. I'll be sleeping in another cabin a few meters away. My budget isn't the same as yours, hehe. Besides, I'd rather you two enjoy your honeymoon. If anything, you have my phone number in case of any incident. Good night, Pura Vida" Antonio politely said goodbye to the couple and left. The couple decided to take turns showering. Urchin wore regular pajamas, while he was surprised to see his wife's sleepwear. Zooli only wore a gray sports bra with a matching sports thong. This made the boy blush profusely.
"Uhhh…Uhhhh…Z-Z-Zooli….Are you going to sleep...like this?" He asked with his red race.
"Well, yes. It's a bit warm here. Besides, I wear short sweats as pajamas. I think it's something I should have told you" Zooli said with a special smile "It doesn't bother you, does it?"
"Not at all" Urchin admitted. She simply lifted Urchin from his wheelchair and laid him down on the bed. She simply curled up on the bed beside him. They both looked a little flushed "I see you're nervous too"
"Of course I am. This is the first time I've ever slept with a man...Damn, I hope that didn't sound weird" Zooli admitted.
"I don't sound weird. I totally get it. I've never shared the same bed with a woman, either. Or anyone, for that matter" Urchin added.
"Hehe, hey, if I do anything that might make you uncomfortable...physically...let me know. I mean, I don't want to hurt your tail or anything while we're sleeping together" Zooli said quietly.
"Don't worry about it. I know everything will be okay with you" Urchin said with a blush on his cheeks. Gently, they touched hands without realizing it. Neither dared to look into each other's eyes for a few seconds.
"(God, why do I feel nervous? We're married, this should be totally normal... But why do I feel horny?)" Zooli thought.
"(Gosh, Zooli is extremely sexy like this. I can see her muscular arms, her thighs, her toned abdomen better. She's definitely a gym girl... Urchin, what are you thinking?!)" Urchin has his red face too. They both decided to look into each other's eyes timidly. Without thinking twice, she slowly approached him.
"Urchin…."
"Z-Zooli…" Unable to say another word, they kissed softly on the lips. The kisses deepened. So much so that Urchin felt a little hot, so he took off his pajama top. Zooli began to touch his chest and, unexpectedly, kissed his neck "Z-Zooli!" He gave a soft moan, but it surprised her. She thought about continuing, but noticed how his body tensed. As if it were a self-defense system. It was as if something was telling him he didn't want to go that far. She understood that body language and looked into his eyes.
"I-I'm sorry, Urchin…I got carried away. I think something inside me wanted something more" Zooli apologized.
"You don't have to apologize...I just thought I wasn't that attractive to you" Urchin said shyly.
"What are you talking about? I like you just the way you are. Your body is beautiful, although you know I like you more than all of that. I fell in love with the way you are. Your personality, your intelligence, your sensitivity, your way of loving... I fell in love with those things. I just thought I could show you a part of my love in intimacy" Zooli said with a blush on her face.
"You know, I really appreciate it. But I'm sorry... But right now, I don't think I want to or can go any further. I mean, if you noticed me tense up it's because I remembered... that horrible experience with Lilith... She did things like that, except it was against my will... Don't get me wrong, I liked the way you touched and kissed me... But deep down, I'm still scared... (sigh) Hell, you'll think I'm less of a man for not wanting to 'do it'. Any man in my place would do it without a thought... Ugh, I hate doubting my manhood" Urchin said nervously. He thought he'd just said something stupid. But she took his hand.
"Hey, Don't say stupid things like that again. Of course you're a man! And a much better one than you think. Whether you want to 'do it' with me now or not doesn't make you more or less of a man. You have the right to say whether you want to or not, just as I have the right to want to or not. And of course, I know you're still healing those emotional wounds. I'll just tell you this: I won't stop loving you. Besides, when 'that' happens, I'll make sure it's the best experience of your life. Because I will seek your comfort and pleasure before my own. So, if you feel pressured or scared, we won't. I can wait" Zooli said sincerely.
"Wow….That was beautiful...Thank you, Zooli. It's really amazing that you're my wife" Urchin was moved by her words.
"Oh! And you know something? Being intimate doesn't just mean 'having intimate relationships'..." Zooli said with a soft tone of voice.
"What do you mean by -?" He asked before a finger of hers delicately covered his mouth.
"Let me show you...And don't be scared...I'll be gentle and soft...I'll stop if I see you uncomfortable…."
Saying that, she kissed him softly and passionately on the lips. She knew that perhaps tonight wouldn't be the "event" she thought it would be. But she wanted to show him that night that intimacy didn't only involve direct sexual intercourse, but that that was only one way, and she would show him other ways. How? Private kisses and caresses that they would never do in public. In addition, they began whispering sweet things to each other. Things that no one else would hear. Sharing secrets and private touches was a form of intimacy they did. Urchin began to fight his fear, and it began to disappear thanks to his wife's soft words and loving touches. Perhaps there were some daring kisses and touches that made them moan a little, but nothing that broke their rule. So, they both decided to settle down to rest. Zooli noticed how Urchin rested his head on her chest and lap. He snuggled up to her.
"Hmmmm….This is amazing...This feels comfortable...and I feel safe with you" Urchin said quietly.
"I can say the same. You know what? You make me feel safe too. Maybe you think you don't protect me physically... But you've been my emotional refuge" Zooli admitted.
"You are my refuge in both senses" He kissed her lips quickly.
"Hehe...Hey, let's not be so cheesy...(sigh) Screw it, I think we can be cheesy...A LITTLE...in private. You know I want to keep my reputation" Zooli said funnily.
"I think our friends know that side of you... They just don't say it…" Urchin said calmly. He's starting to close his eyes.
"Maybe it's true... But even so, I prefer to keep things private and discreet... You know me better than anyone..." Zooli answered. Her husband began to nod off sleepily. She shifted a little to kiss him on the head.
"Good night….Zooli….I love you….." Unable to bear to sleep any longer, he fell asleep on his wife's lap. She simply hugged him and fell asleep with him.
"I love you too, Urchin…"
They both finally decided to sleep together. This would be their first night together. They experienced a tiny bit of what they would experience for the rest of their lives. They were both happy to be enjoying a honeymoon adventure in a place suited to both of their tastes. And in turn, experiencing a bit of what they would experience from then on. Urchin was able to sleep confidently in his wife's lap. It was something that filled him with security and peace. The thought of experiencing deep intimacy with her was already on his mind. His fears were slowly fading. And when the day came that he felt secure, he wished he could be the first man to take Zooli's first time. And that would be something she would agree to. Indirectly, they both accepted the idea of solidifying the new Brook-Lee-Rivers family in the future. They knew it was just the beginning of a battle together. They would never have to face their problems alone again. And all of this would begin with their adventure in a Pura Vida place.
What a chapter, huh? With adventure and romance included, just what this couple needed after so much. This chapter is very special to me because I was able to express my home country in a simplified way. And I think the character Antonio wasn't a mere coincidence, hehe. Let's just say that, although there's a lot to tell about my country, I was at least able to show a glimpse of its natural beauty, which is one of the most important things about Costa Rica. As a curious fact, Costa Rica has 5% of the world's biodiversity.

That news hit our favorite guppy like a bucket of cold water. She'd already guessed she was pregnant from the pregnancy tests. But she wanted to make sure it was true with a thorough medical exam. She left the appointment with that shock. Although she was still in shock, she couldn't hold back a scream.
'AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! I'M GOING TO BE A MOM! I'M GOING TO BE A MOM! I'M GOING TO BE A MOTHER!" Deema screamed with joy throughout the office, causing some patients and doctors to look at her strangely. In fact, because of the noise, she had to leave the hospital. I'm sure a doctor was going to expel her. But in that enormous joy, she thought of something that began to worry her.
